A true diner experience. I got the classic breakfast with a stack of pancakes. Service was quick and to the point. It is a total local joint and full of regulars, you can just tell. I was happy to make this stop, even though the food was very basic, because of the overall experience. It was a warm spot to start off the day with a cup of coffee and a basic breakfast.

Veggie omlet
Chris M.

I had the veggie omelet that had mushrooms, broccoli and onion. It only included two eggs while most places offer a three egg omelet. I knocked down the rating one star for the serving sizes. I had the salad in lieu of hash browns. There seemed like there was sufficient staff to handle the number of people. I did not have any problems with service. The prices were reasonable but the serving size was on the smaller side. I would return if going out for breakfast. It is at a convent location in Watertown.

No frills, old school diner, which is exactly what a diner is supposed to be. Long bar counter seating and good amount of booth seatings. Looks old school but very clean. They have a lot of regulars that come in, where they knew their names and last orders. The servers were quick and attentive. The moment we sat down, our server came by to get our drink orders. Large menu selection of breakfast and lunch items. We got the deluxe egg sandwich (you can choose between a variety of breads or bagels) and hungry man plate (this was a large portion - we chose bagel and pancakes (not shown, ate it then remembered, but you get 2 fairly big pieces). Place normally gets pretty packed but today it was little less than half full probably due to credit cards machine were down, so was cash only for today).

Waffle, hungry person platters, spicy Portuguese pork sausage.

Like this place, the service is quick and attentive. Old school style, but clean. There offer quite options. The waffle is made with the same of their pancakes batter, I like it.

I've been here around 4-5 times and I love it. Definitely my #1 breakfast place in the area. Service is always great. Food is well priced. Menu is HUGE. Food is delicious. The sour cream flapjacks are crazy good. + it's a train car?!? It is so cute and a lovely place to eat Love it here! Recommend sooo much!!!

Add this place to your list! This is a classic diner with great food and great service. The portions are huge and the menu has reasonable prices. My go to is the deluxe colossal hungry person special. You get your choice or a short stack of pancakes or French toast, two eggs any style, homefries, toast, a protein, and bottomless coffee for $15. The pancakes and the homefries are my favorite!! They have a ton of seating, but if it's too busy you could always sit at the bar. Regardless it's worth the wait. There is street parking, but that can get hard when it's busy. This is in Watertown so there isn't a train. Love this place! I'd go to this diner so much more if I lived closer.

Big hungry man breakfast

Yes! Give me The Hungry Man Big breakfast! My bf and I came in for brunch Sunday morning and it was very busy, luckily we found seats at the bar. I wanted the works! Pancakes, eggs, bacon, toast, coffee and after looking at their big menu I decided on their deluxe big man hungry breakfast which had everything that I wanted. The service was great! After taking our order the super friendly waitress made sure my cup of coffee was always full! She literally kept filling it up which I loved! The eggs were cooked perfectly and the pancakes were so soft and chewy! The bacon was nice and salty and I can't believe I devoured the whole full plate of food! My bf really liked his pancakes too! We were so happy we had breakfast here! We can't wait to come back!

Always tasty and bustling. A staple of the area. Sometimes service is a bit gruff, but that's part of the diner vibe.

Nice place to grab some sandwiches on the way home. The reuben isn't bad. The interior makes it look like you're at an old timey place.

Cabot's Ice Cream in Newtonville is exactly the kind of old-school ice cream spot you hope to find…read morewhen you're craving a good sundae. The first thing that stood out was the portion size and value. For around $7.50 you get two scoops of ice cream with whipped cream, a cherry, and a topping of your choice, which already feels generous. If you go for the regular size, you actually get three scoops, which makes it even better for sharing. There are so many flavors available, and we were happy to see that many of the ice creams are eggless, which is great for vegetarians. The texture of the ice cream was incredibly creamy, and the coffee ice cream was especially delicious with a rich, smooth flavor. We also tried the nachos, which were surprisingly really good and made a nice savory snack before dessert. Between the big portions, classic ice cream flavors, and nostalgic dessert-parlor vibe, Cabot's definitely feels like a local hidden gem in the Newtonville area. If you're around Newton or Boston and want a satisfying ice cream dessert, this place is worth checking out.

She should really not be there to destroy the moods of those seeking to lighten up from an ice cream joy.

If you're anywhere near Harvard Square, The Friendly Toast is absolutely worth a stop, especially…read moreif you're looking for a brunch spot that's just as fun as it is flavorful. The space is super vibrant, filled with bold colors, retro diner touches, and a bunch of quirky statement pieces that make you want to look around before you even check the menu. It feels playful and energetic without being overwhelming...definitely a place that stands out from your typical brunch spot. One of the most unique things about this place is the drink menu. I loved that you can order flights...not just for mimosas, but also spritzers/mixed drink and even coffee-inspired drinks. That's not something you see everywhere, and it made the whole experience feel a little more elevated and fun. Everything we tried was solid across the board. The drinks were well-made, balanced, and honestly just fun to try in a flight format. The menu itself keeps that same energy going with quirky, pop culture-inspired names that make ordering more entertaining than usual. But it's not just about the names, the food actually delivers. The chicken and waffles were a standout: crispy, flavorful, and perfectly paired with the sweetness of the waffle. The traditional breakfast was done right too: simple, classic, and exactly what you'd want when you're craving something familiar. The real surprise for me was the crispy pimento potato bowl with chicken. It was packed and layered with flavor: comforting, a little indulgent, and definitely filling. You can tell they're intentional about how they build their dishes, not just throwing things together. Shoutout to our waitress as well...she really made the experience better. She gave great recommendations, helped us navigate the menu (which has a lot of options), and made sure we picked dishes we'd actually enjoy. That kind of service goes a long way, especially at a busy brunch spot.

Not only did I forget; I didn't realize until I had completely finished my meal! Hence, sorry but no food photos! lol This little luncheonette only has 4 booths for 4 ppl and 1 table for two; there are also a few counter seats along the wall. But on a Saturday morning, we didn't really have to wait, as we got the last available booth. Yay!! Customer service was so friendly and welcoming; and fast! Eddie, the owner, even came over to say hello! Great hospitality! They serve the basic diner breakfast stuff (eggs, omelettes, pancakes French toast, etc), as well as a lunch menu (burgers, sandwiches, salads, etc), as well as side items and dessert. I had the best Western Omelette, which came with home fries, and toast. This omelette was fantastic; no joke! All the veggies were fresh and the eggs were prepared perfectly. Most diners tend to over cook their eggs but this omelette was perfect. My pumpernickel toast was fantastic also...imagine that! Toasty yet chewey at the same time. A great meal overall! I can't believe I just raved about an omelette but it was seriously THAT good! Recommended, and I would certainly return to try other menu items, or another omelette!
