I stopped here during a road trip to Massachusetts. It's a cute restaurant, but service was slow even though there weren't many people eating there that day. The breakfast was good though, with the exception of the plain French toast. And they have freshly squeezed orange juice, which was delicious.

Was good. They had a good turkey burger (which is hard to find) and decent fries. Nice little diner in the middle of town.

Cabot's Ice Cream in Newtonville is exactly the kind of old-school ice cream spot you hope to find…read morewhen you're craving a good sundae. The first thing that stood out was the portion size and value. For around $7.50 you get two scoops of ice cream with whipped cream, a cherry, and a topping of your choice, which already feels generous. If you go for the regular size, you actually get three scoops, which makes it even better for sharing. There are so many flavors available, and we were happy to see that many of the ice creams are eggless, which is great for vegetarians. The texture of the ice cream was incredibly creamy, and the coffee ice cream was especially delicious with a rich, smooth flavor. We also tried the nachos, which were surprisingly really good and made a nice savory snack before dessert. Between the big portions, classic ice cream flavors, and nostalgic dessert-parlor vibe, Cabot's definitely feels like a local hidden gem in the Newtonville area. If you're around Newton or Boston and want a satisfying ice cream dessert, this place is worth checking out.

They have the option of take out too! We got a couple appetizers to try & each got a different ramen. Here's what we ordered: APPETIZERS - chicken karaage - okonomiyaki-styled tater tots - green papaya salad RAMEN - miso ramen - spicy miso ramen - chef's ultra ramen - spicy tan tan ramen Thoughts: I thought the appetizer portions were pretty generous! A lot more than we were all expecting. I was pretty much already full before the ramens came out. Wasn't a big fan of the green papaya salad. It was missing some flavor. We all thought that it would be better if it had some tomatoes & garlic. Didn't seem like they used a mortar to ground the aromatics or anything, since the sauce just tasted like fish sauce and lime. The chicken karaage was okay. Wish there was more sauce to dip the chicken with. Chicken was also on the drier side. The tater tots were the best appetizer of the three we ordered, IMO. If you like takoyaki balls, you'll like this because it has similar sauces + bonito flakes. Ours needed some salt though. As for the ramens, I personally had the spicy miso ramen. It was missing a lot of depth in the broth that I would've liked to see (& taste). I didn't taste any miso to be honest. Salt was needed too. The highlights for the ramen were the chashu & corn. I loved that they used fresh corn! The chashu had the perfect amount of fattiness & almost melted in my mouth. The noodles were nice and chewy. The broth was just disappointing though. For the other ramens, everyone enjoyed the one they ordered. I tried a little of the chef's ultra ramen & the broth was much better than my spicy miso. Btw, the spicy miso ramen is not spicy at all for anyone who is hesitant & cannot do overly spicy foods. The food was a bit disappointing for me. I came in with high expectations with all the good reviews I read beforehand. Not terrible but not great.

The bread was warm and fluffy and the frosting was creamy and nicely sweetened but not overly sweet. I was a fan. The french toast was eggy and the bread was soft. The Italian sausage stole the show for me. It was sweet, fragrant, and you could taste the chunks of meat and fat. The fennel flavor was warming. I had an extra side of their sausages. The home fries were good. The steak in the steak and eggs was well seasoned. It did taste A1-y. It was cooked to medium rare as per my request. I was a fan of the steak chunks. I will return. You should give them a visit.

There are also a few booths for larger parties. They have your general breakfast diner food, sandwiches, to daily specials to choose from. I opted for one of their daily specials the wake and bake which was a sandwich filled with hash brown, bacon, and eggs with a side of home fries. I also got a glass of freshly squeezed orange juice which was super refreshing. The sandwich was amazing and I would absolutely get it again if it was on the menu. The home fries were okay, but not the best that I've had. The service was great and very efficient. Overall, a great place to catch up and grab a bite to eat.

Plenty of seating packed into a small space, including large and small booths, tables, and stools up front. Straightforward decor without the nostalgic diner gimmickry-- it's not pretending to be old; it IS old and has its charm. -- Patty Melt: The reason I came. No longer on the current menu; however, they'll gladly make one for you. What I got was pretty impressive: a gentle patty, cooked to the medium rare I chose, and served on the seeded rye I chose, along with grilled onions, cheese, and a sauce sort of in the ketchup-and-mayo neighborhood. Good textures and taste, especially the beef. Only minor quibble was the minimal butter. Mini cup of coleslaw extra creamy. Pickle spear a nice palate cleanser. Overall, I was happy. -- Fries: They're not included with sandwiches, but a mere $1.95 for a more fries than a McDonald's medium was more than fair. Pretty average, but doable. Very quick, helpful, and attentive service-- not just from my own server but from all I encountered. Good vibe.

There's almost something cozy about a place like this. Knotty P. has all the diner signs: worn counter, people yapping, the waitress taking orders non-stop, booths aren't huge, aisles are tiny (good luck getting to your seat) and the special scrape sound of the large metal spatula touching the steel flattop. If you don't mind sitting shoulder-to-shoulder with the regulars, then the counter is your spot. The only 2 seats available were at the counter and we snagged them. The breakfast potatoes are exactly what you want them to be: crispy-edges and golden- these have a little heat kick- not too much- but just enough to keep you going for another bite. As non-meat eaters, we appreciated how the cook keeps the sausages in their own territory (something is something I guess) from the omelettes, pancakes, etc. Then there's the energy- fast and a little loud in the best way. And right in the middle of it, is Ileana who has that special spark and every beat, timed.
