The food was phenomenal, I ordered for pick-up.. BUT I was only given a small side of butter. I asked for one soup and a salad, instead was given two salads. Also, I asked for one of my pastas to be spicy and the other not. Turns out they made both spicy, to me it wasn't really all that spicy which was disappointing, the other pasta they made both spicy so my wife struggled to eat it. I paid $50 to get a quality meal, and I did for the most part. However the lack of attention to details from the lady who took my order made my experience a bad one. She repeated the order back to me, so I'm not sure where the disconnect is. I wish ownership could make this right, maybe they'll see my review. I didn't bother to call or complain. I'm not even sure where to begin. I attended a birthday party here. There was NO air on for a room full of 50+ people. They had fans blowing "cooler" air around. Everyone "raves" about this restaurant. I thought the food was TERRIBLE. The salad was skimpy, the dressing was bland, the bread was hard, the vegetables were WAY under cooked, almost raw and hard. The Chicken Marsala was dry and I could not believe they had NO pasta selection. My husband doesn't eat meat so he was stuck with dry potatoes (4) and had to butter them to get them to have some juice. I would NOT recommend this place and thank God I was paying for the meal. I went here to celebrate my birthday a couple weeks ago, and it was so delicious! There aren't enough truly authentic Italian restaurants around anymore, and this one is up there with the best of them. We had the grilled octopus and mushroom appetizers ... absolutely delicious. For our meals, we all had a little bit of everything. Steak, fish, pasta. And everyone left VERY satisfied. The service was great, the wine was superb, and the overall vibe was very inviting. Loving the family owned vibe. They accommodate a variety of dietary needs without a separate menu but just let them know to make sure. Wait and bar staff are fantastic. I'm a fan, I think you could be too. (Side note) for my vegan friends, I have pasta with tomato sauce seasoned and spiced to my taste. No soup options and I'm not a huge fan of the salad. RDM's is located in a small strip mall off of Lake. If you weren't looking for it you may miss it. You can't enter off of Lake. You have to enter on Rohlwing. This is a white table cloth place, but it does not come off as too fancy. We came for a casual lunch and didn't feel too out of place. This is a traditional Italian restaurant. First time here. My friend chose it for lunch and we weren't sure it was a good choice. Hard to get in and out with it being on the corner of two busy streets, Lake St. and Route 53. Good parking though. It doesn't appear bright and cheery, kind of dark from the exterior. We went inside and it was a bit smoky, apparently from the kitchen but it cleared up with the door open. We both had the soup of the day and chicken marsala. It was two pieces of chicken breast in a light brown wine sauce with mushrooms. It came with a side of rigatoni. Delicious. It did get pretty busy with customers who appeared to be on lunch from their work day. They seemed to be return customers. So it was a really good choice. read more

A friend told us about this restaurant and it did not disappoint. First we had the grilled calamari and it was amazing, not to mention the soup and salad. I ordered the Chicken Marsala and my partner ordered the Chicken Francese. Both dishes were the best we ever had. We went here for a special dinner for four . The feel is very nice with white clothes tables etc . The bread was more of a French bread not Italian nor warm enough . I never give 5 stars on the first visit; but I have a feeling that that's what I'll be giving after my next visit. The first thing I look for in a good Italian restaurant is good bread, and this crusty, fresh, delicious stuff was right up there with the bread at Capri in Cicero. The waiter, who was smartly dressed and very knowledgeable, described the five (5!) specials of the day. We both chose the linguini Genovese with tuna - something you d likely see in Italy, but rarely here. In the meantime we noshed on salads with blue cheese. The blue cheese tasted so good to me that I ascribed it to unusual hunger, but my dining partner noticed it as well. Shortly, our entrees arrived and we were again pleasantly surprised by the dish: flakes of Genovese tuna carefully mixed (Not mashed up) with the tomato sauce. There was an acidic note from the olives that really complemented the rich sauce. In short, it was Good: smack-your-Nonna Good! No time for dessert or apps, but rest assured I'll be back soon with my dessert-loving wife, to sample a wider range of dishes. So go, and don't be put off by the truck-stop location in a strip mall: it's lovely inside, and a world of genuine Italian "Chivo" awaits. read more

After having passed this restaurant on Lake Street many times over the years, I decided to celebrate my birthday with a few friends on a cold wintery Saturday night. Everyone had a wonderful time as the restaurant has excellent food and service. This is a very nice authentic restaurant with classic dishes with awesome flavor and fresh ingredients. Well, I figured it was about time that I wrote a review on this place since I have been going there for years and years. This place is located in a small strip mall on Lake and Rohlwing. I have to say that each and every time here, I have never had a meal that was below excellent. The food here is just delicious. I most always get pasta but I have had their specials too. Every time delicious. The bread with their house garlic butter would alone satisfy me but I know that there are lots and lots of good things to eat. The Linguine Del Gulfo (I think I spelled it right) is pretty incredible. All sorts of seafood on a perfect pasta and sauce. White clam linguine is some of the best you will have. This last visit, my wife had the spinach ravioli special which was just something else. The spinach was the pasta with a fluffy cheese stuffing in a delicious sauce that had some sage in it .I like going with her because she always lets me try her food. ;) I also like that they provide some complimentary fruit at the end of dinner. So maybe you ask why am I only giving four stars instead of five? The prices. They are up there. They are dollars more than I believe they should be but I still go there anyway because it is so good. Their pour on the wine could be larger too, but so what? I get two glasses. I am glad I live fairly close by. Hands down, this is the best place for Italian food in the western suburbs. Really. This used to be THE place. I've been going here forever...at least 15 years. My favorite thing about dining here was the energy. It was always packed. Sometimes there would be parties...famous people...proposals...you never knew! The service was amazing and if you were a regular, and I was, so very fun and personal. The food was always exceptional. Favorites: Chicken marsala, seared tuna, their tiramisu is the BEST and their white chocolate cheesecake...omg! BUT... When the economy turned Jerry (the owner) and some of the staff were oblivious. The prices, which were already up there, continued to climb even as the restaurant emptied. Some of the staff started playing games with the bills to see how much they could inflate a check. Asked for the house wine? Surprise! I gave you the premium. Asked for a simple mix of pasta, spinach and ricotta? Surprise! I'm going to see if you'll pay $27 for it. Suddenly MY restaurant couldn't be trusted and I started noticing more and more how empty it was... How tired everyone seemed... How Jerry or his wife would sit at a table like it was their living room rather than a public dining room. That's not fun. That's not energetic. We started going less and less and after one too many bill "mistakes" my husband instituted a boycott. I continued to occasionally go on the sly. But you know how it is once you've been a regular... If it becomes obvious you've found somewhere else to go there is resentment when you return. I'd start being offered bad tables in an empty dining room. Service would be slow, again, in an empty dining room. The last time I went...and it WAS my last time ever...I received full-on hostile service. It was shocking. I have no doubt the food is still quite good but every time I drive by, even during prime dining hours on a Friday or Saturday night, the place looks nearly empty. I saw another reviewer mention getting in on a weekend and picking her own table without a reservation as if this was a good thing! It's not. It shows a formerly great restaurant in a death spiral. A better choice would be Za Za's just down the road. read more

A solid white-tablecloth Italian restaurant with good service. The menu is not particularly lengthy but there were 6 specials the night we dined. We both ordered pasta dishes off the regular menu and they were fine. We started with a half dozen baked clams that were the typical quarter to half dollar sized clams that restaurants typically serve these days. Yes, they were good but very small. At close to $9, skip them they are not worth the price. (If you want really good, plentiful baked clams, check out my other reviews.) I had my usual Bolognese pasta that I always order when dining at a new Italian restaurant. Yes, it was very good. (If I hadn't been spoiled by an incredible Bolognese I had in Door Cty, the one at De Marco's would have rated excellent.) My wife had a shrimp, scallops and vegetables with garlic & oil. She really enjoyed it. We started with the excellent cream of mushroom soup. This was definitely the highlight of the meal. Drinks are fairly priced. You'll find wines by the glass for $7. My vodka on the rocks was $8. My wife said the Cosmopolitan was excellent. Our server, Drew, was friendly while being efficient. A 3-star review should not be construed as "average". It was "A-OK". Drinks and service were excellent and the food was good. Prices for pasta dishes are a little high. This impacts my price/value ratio and why I rate them 3-stars. There is a LOT of competition for Italian retaurants. De Marco's offers a good solid meal but so do many others. read more

Not what I expected I have always wanted to try this restaurant when I was passing by Lake/53. However every time I was on my way to somewhere else and not able to make a stop for a meal. The bar area looks nice, small, but still ok for groups. The restaurant part is nothing to write home about, the music is played from overhead speakers, some of them directly over tables. Instead of non-descript music, the local radio is played, including the annoying ads in between. It seemed to be all a bit rushed - the waiting staff, how your food was served, etc. We had the grilled tuna, cheese ravioli and grilled calamari. No risotto on the menu, unfortunately. Calamari was grilled ok, nothing special, the tuna seemed overpriced for the quality / thickness, the cheese ravioli is, well, cheese ravioli. All in all, a dinner with taxes for about $57 - overpriced. read more
