I've been dying to try this place for the longest. I was very very disappointed. I had the combo. Pork and beef brisket with fried okra and Mac n cheese. The mac n cheese... a no go. I never had whole fried okra. It was friggin tasty! Now the meat... um the pork was not good at all. I absolutely love bbq and for me not to find anything tasty to the point of leaving on my plate, it had to be no good. It was waaay too salty. The sauce was bland. The beef brisket was pretty damn good! I gave it a 3 because the customer service was great. I honestly wish I remembered her name but she was extremely helpful and cordial. The food I had to give a 1.5. It's a no go for me to be returning. read more

Been coming here for years for breakfast. It's what you expect of a good quality "greasy spoon". Good basic breakfast food, with great service and always a smile. You can't talk about Demetris breakfast without shouting out about their biscuits. Big, crispy outside, pillowy cotton buttery inside. Delicious. The pancakes are just Cakey enough without going to the bready side. Bacon is thick and cooked to order. Eggs are always cooked exactly as you may want them. Just tell them and they will get it done. Service is always quick, efficient and on top of it. And usually served with some good old southern charm. Yup when you want a solid breakfast with great service this is your place. read more

We did dinner at Demetri's tonight. It was our first time to eat there at night. It's a totally different vibe at night. There was maybe 3 or 4 people working and about that many tables with patrons. It was chill and a nice change from the normally slammed daytime crowd. The service was great and the food was good but temperatures were all over the place. My wife had a veg plate and the mac and cheese was straight up cold and had to be sent back to be nuked. I had the smoked chicken and dressing special. The gravy was slightly above room temp and the dressing was dry and crumbly. The chicken was very good but I would have preferred it to be served warm. Everything else was very good. read more

We were hoping to try the brunch but they only serve it till 10:30am on Saturday so we opted for lunch. I had the low carb plate and added the wood fired veggies and it was a huge portion. It also has a significant amount of onions on it which is probably the most powerful flavor in addition to the greek dressing on the bed of slaw at the bottom of the plate. Our table agreed the sides (fried okra, fries etc) were good but the brisket was fatty on some plates. I left feeling satisfied but I've had better bbq. read more

I've been here several times hoping that the next time will be better. It gets worse. First off, there is no host and no one is there to welcome you or seat you. When you are sat, the tables are so small that there is not enough room to sit comfortably nor enough room on the table to place your food. The service is absolutely horrible. We didn't get our drinks until after our cold food got to us. The parking ridiculously small and cramped. One time while I was there a parked car was hit. The food, besides being cold and dry, was lackluster. The only compliment around the table of 4 was for the wings. I strongly recommend that you avoid this place. read more

I have only been to Demetri's for breakfast. And as far as I'm concerned, that may be all you need. It has been years since I have gone to Demetri's. So I only saw it fit to write a review with a more recent experience. With an early morning meeting filled with failed hope to have some form of breakfast item, a friend and I were in need of some good sustenance. My breakfast companion needed to be heading out of the north side of town from Lakeshore. And my internal radar of breakfast goodness started sensing through the path to I-65 north. As soon as my breakfast spidey-sense hit Homewood, bells and whistles started going off. Sorry Yelp app, there was no need for you this round of searching for the most important meal of the day. But your purpose today is not lost. For this review shall hopefully lead many to morning bliss. Anyone who knows me knows that I am a big fan of brunch. My reviews are filled with heroic tales of egg concoctions washed down with early afternoon booze. But this my friends is what I consider a weekday, breakfast haunt. No frills when the days start in anything but an "S". And that is what Demetri's offers. I can never quite put my finger on what these places do that is so much better than what I can do from home. But I am convinced the years of flavoring on the flattop/grill along with biscuits made from things other than Bisquick is a pretty good start. With that being said make sure you get their fluffy delicious biscuits grilled. It is definitely a trade off from the fluffiness you may love on the inside. But the flavor and texture is something brand new. The eggs are cooked perfectly and the grits have a great consistency. All in all, a solid lineup for breakfast. Full disclosure, I've only been here for breakfast, and each time I've had the same thing because it's SO good, so I can't speak to the actual BBQ here. But... if you love huevos rancheros, this is a must stop. I like to think of myself as a huevos rancheros connoisseur... I've had A LOT of different versions of it, and this one is at the top of my list. The white chili is flavorful, as is their homemade salsa. It's a lot of food, and hubby and I usually share the meal with a side of bacon (which, by the way, is also very good and crispy). We both are usually stuffed to the brim by the end. Free coffee is a nice touch, and the servers are quick and friendly. We will be back again for sure, and I will TRY to order something different at some point but no promises. read more

Very welcoming and great food. I wish I would have asked the lady at the register her name, but she was the sweetest woman. We ordered with her and sat at a table near the cash register so we were lucky enough to hear how feminine and heartwarming all of her conversations were! She made everyone feel right at home!! We came here for Sunday Brunch, but my roommate insisted we also get some smoked wings because they are the best (and she was right!). I ordered the French toast - the texture was amazing, I'm guessing it was something like cornbread but sweeter?? There wasn't a description but omg it was goooooood! My roommate got the chicken fingers and fries which she loved. Our other friend got the Huevos rancheros, she smiled and was happy the whole meal and said it was super good and was #cleanplateclub. Lastly, my boyfriend ordered the brisket rancheros omelette (I think that was the name) and I got to try and and oooo it was good - the grits from his meal were the winner for me though. First time here. The barbecue pork sandwich chopped was very good. The sauce was excellent. It had a vinegar taste and at the end just the right amount of heat. The staff was friendly and were prompt in taking our order as well as delivering our food.Prices were very reasonable. We will definitely be back for more good food. read more

The service was horrible. The waitress was inattentive, we had to speak to other servers to order desert and get to go boxes. She never did a check to see if the food was okay or if we needed drink refills and she began rolling silverware in eye's view as if she had checked on our table. I get the sense that this is a very close knit customer base and well maybe if you do not belong to this circle you are treated as such. The food was not memorable I had the veggie plate and my daughter had the wings. They did not have apple turnovers available and the lemon meringue and chocolate mousse pies were horrible. Food and wait was decent, as we had a large party. Server was wonderful. However, upon receiving our receipts we noticed that some people had a $5 up charge for extra wings. The menu denoted only one price for the wing plate, and the server did not explain that there was an up charge either. The manager and owner eventually came and deflected, claiming that we should just know that if we get more food it'll probably cost more and that he cannot fit all prices and information on the menu. We had no issue with paying extra, but did have an issue with the misleading information. Furthermore, the owner was very rude and personally offensive to my friend, telling everyone to have a good night except for him lol. He talked over us and was determined to misunderstand us. (NOTE: This review only pertains to breakfast!) Everybody who's anybody in the Birmingham culinary scene knows that the Greeks control everything, and I mean everything. All the barbecue joints, steak houses, seafood restaurants and even the local fast casual places like Zoe's. Well, everything that is except Frank Stitt and all the Mediterranean places like purple onion. Demitri's is no different. There are a couple things on the menu that deviate far away from the standard bbq breakfast fare and get into a far more Greek influenced genre. They have this mythical white turkey omelet that can be served Western style. And, if your palette allows you, you can taste just a hint of oregano in it. No lie. They also have a homemade salsa that you can dip it in that's incredible. It's a little odd for a bbq joint, but it's really good. Then there's my own personal dilemma with French Toast. I have a hankering for it fort-nightly. And Demitri's was a breath of fresh air. It was whole grain baguette, sliced, lightly skillet fried with egg and topped with powdered sugar. There were hints of cinnamon that worked really well with the seedy goodness of the bread. But the magic really happens when you drizzle it with honey instead of syrup. It's awesome. So if you're ever in the neighborhood in the am, give it a shot. read more

While at breakfast today, I observed a man offer his table to a person waiting to be seated. The owner told the man, "I'll seat people." It came off very rude and unnecessary to bark at someone a few tables away in front of the restaurant. The man (who seemed like a regular customer) got up, told the waitress "you won't be seeing me for a while" and then was confronted by the owner. He told him to look at him, listen to him and that it was HIS restaurant. Awkward! Had that happened to me I would have been irate but knowing that's how the owner talks to his customers, I am disturbed. While I understand the restaurant should seat its customers in order, there are more polite ways to speak to a paying customer. We will probably frequent other restaurants for breakfast for a while. read more

I love BBQ, and living in the SOHO area, I was extremely excited to have a BBQ joint within a few block radius where I could feed the cravings...Getting excited for this place was the wrong decision... I got a half slab of ribs (because are there any bad ribs in Alabama?) and some Brisket, which is normally harder to find at BBQ places around town. Well Congratulations Demitri's for having the first batch of bad ribs I have had since living here! The ribs were extra salty, dry, and just disappointing. The Brisket was in a puddle of grease, and was also over salted and just terrible. I actually threw away the food and had to get dinner elsewhere. Maybe you like over-salted gross BBQ...if so, definitely check this place out...As for me, it is Saws or Dreamland going forward! So why 2 stars and not 1?...The staff was pretty nice, so they get a bonus star, and honestly, who really reads one star reviews? Good BBQ joint but nothing quite pushes it to 5 stars for me. First thing that does stand out imo however, is the chicken used for the chicken sandwich that I ordered. Typical BBQ that I'm used to has that finely chopped meat (which is cool) but here, the meat slabs reminded me of Thanksgiving leftovers. You know how you carve all the rest of the turkey from the bones and eat it for days later on sandwiches, pot pies etc. Yeah... like that... real and large pieces of meat. The standard sauce that was on the side was good but nothing amazing! Hard to stand out with a BBQ sauce in the south, but it's possible. Sweet tea was actually really good (actually sweet) and the service was outstanding! I'd definitely return here, but not sure it'd be a definite go-to or fav. Was in the area picking up some breakfast and I had a hankering for a biscuit. I remember my buddy talking about how good the biscuits were at Dimitris, so I decided to check them out. I went with the grilled biscuit with sausage egg and cheese. It was delicious! The cheddar cheese was perfectly melted on top of a big fluffy egg. The sausage patty was small, but wasn't greasy. The highlight of the sandwich, was the biscuit. It was one of the better biscuits I have ever had. They are grilled, balanced taste, and BIG! I usually don't get full off of just one of them, but this was an exception. I can't wait to go back! read more

I've been going to Demetri's since I was very young; I distinctly recall sitting in a booster seat, so this must have been the mid 1970s. Through the years I've traveled extensively and become a bit of a foodie but I love going back. The food is excellent, the service consistently friendly, the atmosphere very comfortable and not at all overdone. The owner, Sam, is a great guy and very interested in his customers having a good experience and seemingly just as interested in his staff feeling appreciated, engaged and pleased with their work. I had a horrible first time experience. We visited Demetri's for my two friends birthday. We had a wonderful server, Trish, who ensured that our food was served in a timely manner. Along with that she provided exceptional customer service. However, we had an issue with our ticket cost. Upon receiving our tickets, we noticed that there was an upcharge for the wings. Not that it is a huge issue, but we did want to point out to the server and management that a customer can be mislead by the cost of the wings. When the two managers came to the table, one male and one female, the male got very aggressive with us. He made a comment that said, "Do you expect us to put the price of everything on the menu." Then he made several other sarcastic remarks. Ending with statement saying that, "I was not a big his big fan." He missed the full picture. We did not mind paying for the food. We just wanted the company to understand that the cost of their food is misleading. I, along with my friends will not be returning to Demetri's. Management was very poor and insulting. read more

Awesome place. This restaurant has been around for a long time. They are great for breakfast, lunch or dinner. I had a BBQ omelette and was blown away by the delicious flavor, and savored every bite of it. The service is spectacular as well.
