Don't get all the hype about this place. Went there last weekend with my wife and kids got the Mushroom and Swiss burger for me and a House burger for my wife. Kids got the kids menu burger and chicken nuggets. Fries were over cooked and soggy. Sweet potato fries wasn't that bad. There house sauces were good. Burgers weren't all that. Kids chicken nuggets were overcooked and kids burger was horrible. Kids didn't like the place either! It's a confined space , toilets were disgusting!! Tables were sticky. Didn't see no enthusiasm from the girls who work there. So overall this place is sadly goes to the bottom of the barrel. I violated this burger like it slapped my husband's ass. It didn't stand a chance!!! The fries were cooked to perfection and then damn sweet pickles OMG. Seriously, the definition of a gourmet burger. I ordered their holiday special, the Mumster Burger with a side of truffle fries. The juicy medium burger patty was simply dressed with fresh crunchy lettuce, perfectly melted cheese, grilled jalapenos that burned my lips so good and some kind of house spread that dressed the cloud of toasted buns. I visited Dempsey's for the second time and can honestly say both times were PHENOMENAL. Both experiences were on Saturday afternoons around 3 pm and had almost no wait time. The first time we sat indoors in the basement which had a fun pub vibe and the most recent time we sat outside in the sun. I really liked both experiences for different reasons. The service is friendly and very accommodating. I got the house burger cooked medium both times and I really enjoyed it! The most recent time I went, there were three of us and we each got our own burgers and split two baskets of fries. We had LOTS of leftovers and I would recommend splitting a burger and a basket of fries for two people (I do like to eat a lot but these things are massive and should be split). BEWARE: THE TRUFFLE FRIES ARE ADDICTING AND YOU WILL COMPARE EVERY FRY TO THESE ONCE YOU'VE HAD THEM. They come with an assortment of sauces to dip them in. The sauces are also very delicious but the truffle fries alone are show stopping. The sweet potato fries are also perfectly salted and cooked well with a crispy outside. Good spot but should probably be known as a little bit of a dive because that's really what it is. Atmosphere in basement bar area is just fine albeit small and a bit claustrophobic. Main level was really loud as the small dining space is open to kitchen. Great greasy spoon burger spot if that's what you are craving and the location is great (short walk from my front door). We had a great time at Dempsey's! The food was incredible. Particularly the mushroom Swiss bacon burger and the Kobe Hawaiian. Strongly recommend both. The truffle fries were good. Sweet potato fries were the best! Dipping sauces: would strongly recommend the sriracha and chili sauces. The blueberry Moscow mule was excellent. Highly recommend! This was the first place I ate at once I moved to Wichita and it's been my most often stopping selection whether for food or drinks. I love the vibe here. The bar is open until 2AM every night. But the star of the show is the burgers. They are literally the best burgers I've ever had! Their fries are also amazing! The burgers are made to order, they're perfect every time. They make all of their own sauces. They make their own pickles for the burgers, they have a burger of the month every month. I really hate to give this place a mediocre review however, the food was underwhelming. It looked good but the flavor I was expecting wasn't there. With the exception of the Thai chili wings that were so sweet, savory, and crispy--their wagyu burger was a tad bland. My first impression of Dempsey's wasn't great, simply because I came to drink with friends and the bar in the basement never had an open table. Upon maybe my 3rd visit when I came to have the food, I was relieved I didn't write this place off early on. The Up-N-Down burger is honestly the best burger I've had in Wichita. Even surpassing TJ's burger house which is saying a lot. Two thin patties with housemade thousand island dressing and also some really good TRUFFLE fries. Extremely flavorful and a nice atmosphere in College Hill. Dempsey's is at the top of my list whenever someone asks me for a restaurant recommendation. Highly recommend!! read more

The wait staff is helpful and knowledgeable, the ambience is pub-ish, and most importantly the burgers/fries are on point. They offer a good assortment of burgers, classic, Hawaiian, brisket, Angus etc... fries are sold separately ($2 for a side order & $4 for a basket), you can choose between fire, truffle, classic, duck fat or sweet potatoe, all of which are literally finger locking good. Be sure to ask your server to bring you one of each sauce, they have quite a few for dipping your fries. My personal opinion... Dempsey's has the best burgers in town. Burgers and whiskey, my kinda storm party. I ordered the Smoke Stack (Smoked bacon, Swiss cheese, house BBQ sauce, & lettuce) and Sweet Potato Fries with Sweet Chili Aioli dipping sauce. The dipping sauces are really what makes this place stand out from other burger joints. They have so many sauces all made from scratch like Spicy Mustard, Old Bay & Tomato Coulis Aioli, Sweet Chili Aioli, Truffle Cream, Roasted Garlic Aioli. So you can really go all out with your dipping! I like to get real crazy and mix a couple together sometimes! Overall it's a decent establishment. The burgers are good, the service is alright and the atmosphere is cool. They have a cocktail list but I haven't explored it much. I'd probably enjoy it more if I hadn't been to the original Dempsey's in Lawrence first. But it's still fairly new, plenty of time to grow and hone their business. It was late at night and I was hungry (okay, I was HANGRY). I drove around town for quite some time as I couldn't decide what I wanted to eat. My hunger died down after awhile but my determination to get food was still there. I looked to my right and saw Dempsey's. I walked in and waited to be seated. A girl walked me to my table and told me my waiter would be there soon. Seven minutes later, he was nowhere near sight. The girl returned and took my order and said the waiter was occupied with other tables. I ordered two sliders (since I was no longer terribly hungry) and duck fat fries. The food did not take long to arrive. I finally saw my waiter. I quickly ate my food. The sliders were yummy and were perfect because I was full after eating them. I got A LOT of fries. I loved their aioli! I ended up taking the fries home. So... Why the 3 stars instead of 5? Service was incredibly slow. I was alone too, and usually when I'm alone people pay more attention to me. My waiter refilled my water once, right before I asked for the check. Although he was irresistibly charming, I was nevertheless disappointed with his lack of attentiveness. I felt rather neglected and wanted to leave as soon as I was full. Will I come back? Probably, but maybe with a friend. The truffles fries, you have to try them at least once. I think I can eat those as a meal alone. I did get my burger and fries 'to go' but would like to go back someday and spend more time in the bar downstairs. It seems like a good hide away from the rest of the world. Dempseys is a local favorite. If you speak to any Wichita natives they will tell you the same thing. Dempsey a has a few locations across Wichita but this review is regarding the Burger Pub. Location 3/5: The location is fare. It's tucked off of Douglas. The building is older but very cute. The restaurant has a fairly large outside eating area. Inside is much smaller. The parking is horrendous, especially on a weekend or during lunch. Service 5/5: The service has always been great. They are very attentive and make sure you have everything you need. The food is always accurate. The best part is they encourage partaking in their very many sauces. Food 2/5: The food was meh. I have had a few items from Dempseys but it always seems to lack for me. They are known for their Truffle Fries and they were pretty good. The burger fell flat. It had very little seasoning, it was dripping in grease and not in a delicious way, and the quality just felt sub par. Overall 3/5: It is just ok. I would still encourage others to try it themselves. They have been around for a while for a reason and it might be your cup of tea. The service is fantastic and might make the trip worth while. read more

I had five people tell me that this place was a must after just moving into town recently, and needless to say I am I M P R E S S E D!! The restaurant itself is nice and cozy. The only negative I would comment on is that the floor seemed very greasy and slippery, but this may have just been the type of shoes I was wearing at the time; no one else mentioned this. I had the up-and-down burger and it was as big as my face. The patty wasn't overly cooked so it wasn't tough or chewy. The burger was full of flavor and very filling. The highlight of the dish was the truffle fries I ordered on the side (and split with a friend). I have a soft spot for potatoes, so this may be biased, but I am in love with the fries here. Tons and tons of parmesan, full of flavor, and S U P E R addicting. I could not stop stuffing my face with them even though I knew I should! The greatest part was the assortment of dipping sauces our waitress brought out as well. I particularly loved the garlic aoili and spicy dip, but I did not find a sauce that I did not like. Tl;dr: The best greasy burger I've had for a fair price and the best fries that I would willingly pay extra for.
