Yelp challenge 2017 review 96: Shout out to Chris for being Fantastic today with my needs. Located in a strip Mall in laguna niguel near towncenter next to our favorite chinese resturant : China Moon. ( See previous review on chima moon) . I came here because my garage door battery had died and I needed it fixed, and replaced STAT or else no way to have access to la casa, NO BUENO! CHRIS was wonderful. He helped find what I needed, and placed the battery for me and made it work like magic. Made a chaotic day a little less manic. Very appreciated. While I was browsing the store I notices they had something for everyone. Cute tommy bahama beach items, camping and picnic stuff, tools galore to name a few. Prices were a little higher compared to competitors but hey, they have to pay for the location and rent isnt cheap! Overall, i will come back amd check out their patio and home furnishings. Its like home depot met with tjmaxx and home goods and REI and you have it all at denaults. Me gusta! read more

Chip was very patient and helpful with me. This store is lucky to have him as an employee. Also, the store is very clean and well-laid out.

Visited the store in San Juan Capistrano because I like to give the local merchants my business. But two of the older guys serving me wore their face masks under their nose, barely covering their upper lips. When I told them they had to do better, they complained that their masks were too loose. Too loose? How pathetic (!), when all you have to do is tie off some of the ear band to adjust them. Better yet, why doesn't mgmt. shell out for a higher quality mask that stays put that they can wash and reuse? I'm not returning to Denault's until ACE mgmt. gives these codgers a lesson in mask adjustment and these same codgers start to take their Covid responsibility more seriously to keep us all safe.... I almost NEVER write reviews. Murphy's Law that it will backfire. But, I really have to acknowledge the Amazing customer service I have always received at this store. It feels like I'm in a time warp, when people used to be nice to each other. A human being actually answers the phone, which is shocking in today's world. Scott, manager, has helped me for years. He is incredibly knowledgeable. I tell him what I need, and if it doesn't exist he will make it for me! I recently had surgery, so now he brings whatever I need to my car without me having to go in the store. He asks how I am recovering and gives me encouragement. Today was super hot, and he offered me something cold to drink while I waited. He has gone out of his way for me Every single time, without fail. He is always kind and personable, and it seems like I'm visiting a friend instead of running an errand. read more

I regularly drop by DeNault's True Value Hardware on my way to or from work. They have a better selection of hardware and better prices then most other hardware stores I have shopped at. They also have a pretty good housewares and gift item section. I have found many items at this store that I expected to find at other stores, but didn't. Also, If you need to buy a quick gift to take somewhere on short notice, this is a good place to shop. A little pricey on the gift items, but a reasonably good selection and certainly a convenient stop for me. Did I say that their customer service is good? It's very good! Galen C. read more

Grump old guys (emphasis on "grumpy") there to assist. They need an attitude adjustment in this store. I had to return an item that was missing a washer and the response was a mumbled "It was there when I gave it to you" and then walked away. Not cool. I have always thought of DeNault's as a home town store and the staff there has never let me down. They always go above and beyond. Today was a prime example- after picking up a few items, I went out to my car and it wouldn't start. Rather than turn their backs and tell me to call AAA...the manager, Mike, came out and jump started it. A big thank you to him! What a great hardware/housewares store. Friendly, knowledgeable staff and they have a wide variety of items. My teenager got a desk that required assembly. He got stuck after about 45 minutes into it as the threads in one of the pieces was not correctly manufactured. We decided that we should try to re thread the piece ourselves before calling the manufacturer and asking for a new part. We went to True Value to get a tap and die and when we explained our situation and showed Doug the part and bolt, he did it for us and showed my son how to do it in the future. The desk is now fully assembled and ready for 2nd semester thanks to Doug and True Value! read more

Last of a dying breed in this area. Their 3 locations are the only small stores of the kind that haven't yet been replaced by the big boxes. You can actually find someone there who can answer questions without having to track them down. Prices are pretty competitive too because of the Ace affiliation. read more

DeNault's reminds me of a small town hardware store. You get personal service and they really go out of their way to help. I needed a part that was out of stock on the shelf. The man who helped me took the time to check on a parts shipment they had just received to see if the part I needed was in the shipment. It was and the time he took to help me saved me an extra trip and helped me get my project completed. I'm a regular customer at this truly great hardware store. read more

Hummingbird Haven! This place has lots of hummingbird stuff for your bird feeding pleasure. 5+ different feeders, cleaning objects and more! They even had bee- keeper-outer petals for your feeder! And they had the red nectar crap. I don't use that stuff, better to make it from scratch with pure sure and water--like flowers. Where else can you get: Paint Vacuum bags Fryer Keys made Tubing Various and sundry nails/screws/odds and ends Candles That's right, DeNaults. read more

Just needed help finding three items. Had 4 employees offer to help in the 3 minutes I was in the store. I was in and out in a flash. It's like having a hardware concierge here. Try to find that at Home Depot or Lowes! I used to pick Home Depot first because I thought I was saving money...prices all seem nearly the same here so why fight the crowds and drive further? FOLLOW UP... Purchased a $400 air conditioner from Denaults one year ago and started experiencing some issues with it. Mike went WAY above and beyond to handle the entire warranty and exchange process ensuring we had a new working unit quickly for our toddler's nursery. Timely phone calls and messages sent to us and calls to the manufacturer on our behalf. Amazing service and their support gives us confidence to make big purchases here! I'm already a regular customer but will no doubt from to Denault's first every time. read more

Some people have given Denaults only 4 stars and I can't figure what would bring someone to removungbthat last star. Great store with plenty of help when you need to find something. Don't bother going to Home Depot. Look for Joe if you need help in the plumbing department. He knows everything! Joe really saved me when I had screwed up replacing irrigation sprinklers in my yard. They were out of one product, so he suggested another as a workaround. He save me hours of Labor. He also has a great sense of humor. As I left the store, he said,I hope I don't see you today. DeNault's in Laguna Niguel used to have great customer service, but currently it seems to be missing. I took two window screens in for repair. This typically takes 3 to 5 days. The sales person, Brian, told me it would take 7 days. His words were "In seven days, I can walk in and just grab my screens off the shelf." Seven days later, I walk in and his first words were "It takes 7 to 10 days for screen replacements." I ask for my screens back and his response was "Sure, sweetie". Thanks, Brian, I used to go to DeNault's all the time. Now, I'll find a hardware store that knows great customer service is not lying or demeaning their customers. read more

Laguna Niguel DeNault's True Value, Love this place! - Simply put, they have resolved so many needs of various types for me (hardware, plumbing, electronic, cleaning, lawn-care, etc, etc.) that it would take up way too much space to explain them all - bottom line is their staff is friendly and expert in their knowledge of the store, and very knowledgeable in many subjects relating to hardware, plumbing, electronics, cleaning, lawn-care, and much more. If one person doesn't know, they'll find a staff member that does. If you need advice, as well as the sometimes-hard-to-find tools or hardware to get a project done, this is my go-to place. I recommend giving them a try - plus, they have all kinds of unique, non-hardware related nick-knacks. read more

I love this little hardware store. The prices are great. The services is fantastic. Today Don helped me with some items to plant plumeria cuts. I had a budget of $12 and he even gave me some drainage screen material for free. I always get my keys made here because they're very accurate and reasonable. Really cute decor items too. Every time I go in they are more than helpful - from "walking " me thru fixing my toilet to grabbing the best fan for the house during a heat wave two minutes before they close - this place rocks! P.S. I went to 5 different places looking for fans on the way home from work - not one company, and I am talking Costco, Walmart, Home Depot, Bed, bath beyond - not one of them had fans during a heat wave in southern cal - really? spaced heaters are being sold because its the "fall season" ???? DeNault's is my go to place when I need a quick hard to find part. They always have floor staff that is happy to help you with a question and locate the parts you are needing. It reminds me of the local mom and pop hardware store when i was younger that my father would go to. Good luck finding that kind of personal service at the big retailers! The prices are sometimes slightly higher on some items, and the selection is sparse on certain items. Overall though, I will always go out of my way to support the smaller businesses over the big chain hardware stores. read more

Came in to make a copy of a key and will never be returning. One of the employees yelled aggresives and rudely at me when i was looking around waiting for my key to get finished. Had a problem with the light bulbs for my garage door opener and went to Home Depot to get some help. That was a BIG mistake the guy there was not knowledgable at all. Then went to Denaults which is closer to my house and right away a nice man "Doug" asked to help me. I told him my problem and he knew right away what was wrong and provided me with more information. I learned A LOT in 5-10 minutes I was there. Every time I have gone everyone is so helpful and knowledgeable....it is so GREAT!! I would give this place ten stars if I could. Denaults will definitely be my first place to go from now on if I need something. I recommend everyone do the same and not waist there time going anywhere else....they have so much to offer. I felt UNSAFE IN THE STORE last Sunday. I have cancer, chemotherapy, and am immune deficient and very susceptible to covid 19. An older male employee with Red hair talked to me and he had his mask half on exposing me to his exhale. I explained that I was a cancer patient and asked him to put his mask over his nose. He was upset and reluctantly complied then put it down a few minutes later. When my husband talked to him he did the same thing. Then when we were talking to another employee who was wearing his mask he commented so "your still picky". I was humiliated. Chemotherapy makes me emotionally and immunologically fragile. HIS CALLUS ATTITUDE TOWARD MY HEALTH MADE ME AFRAID TO BE IN THE STORE-- I DID NOT FEEL SAFE. I HAD TO WAIT IN THE CAR WHILE MY HUSBAND GOT A FAUCIT PART. We were so stunned -- THE WEBSITE SAID THE STORE IS SAFE BUT IT IS NOT.. CUSTOMERS COME IN WITHOUT MASKS. NO ONE SAYS ANYTHING. HOME DEPOT REQUIRES EVERYONE TO HAVE A MASK. I went to Denault's today to get 2 pieces of wood. I needed two different sizes. I went to ask someone if they could saw the wood into the sizes I wanted. I needed 2 different sizes. Joe who is an employee at Denault's said he could do it for me. He asked me the different sizes and I gave him the exact dimensions I needed. He snapped at me and asked me to repeat what I was wanting because he said I was jumping all over the place . I told him sir I told you exactly what dimensions I needed and I repeated them again. He then got angry at me and said I kept switching the sizes I wanted. I told him I needed two different sizes. I am telling you each size I need. He then continued to get angry and said I was all over the place. He embarrassed me in front of everyone for no reason. I am a wife who doesn't know a lot about hardware. That's why I went to Denault's because they always help me. I complained to the front cashier of how embarrassed I was that this employee yelled at me for no reason. I have come here multiple times because the customer service is usually very helpful. Walmart is a lot cheaper. I would have gone there if I would have known I was going to be treated horribly. I will say the cashier (which I didn't) get her name was extremely nice and apologetic. I will never go to Denault's again. I didn't know I would be yelled at for needing help.
