After another long delay, I was able to bring another pair of denim that needed to be taken in*. I was driving down on Beverly and stopped in my tracks to see a completely different shop in the place where Denim Doctor's once stood. I checked twice to see if I was on the correct block (ironically, Prive Salon/Ona Spa on the same block also closed down) and I was. Before freaking out, I remembered I had their # saved so I called and was grateful to hear the answering service state their new address over on Adams Blvd. Heading on over, it's in a completely different part of Los Angeles, and I'm glad there were store-front photos on this site, as I would have driven right past. Although Adam and Jason are no longer there, thank God Jesse still is. Quickly and accurately, he asked questions on what I needed and was able to measure me up. They did a fantastic job on my other pants in addition to my trench coat, so I'm looking forward to seeing this finished project! It's been quite a while since I've needed their services, but I'm relieved to say I've re-found Denim Doctors (no longer of Hollywood, but of Los Angeles). I used to bring my prized denim to be hemmed and originally stitched at the denim tailor inside of American Rag (where I buy my pairs) but they are no longer around. I've known about the Denim Doctors for a while now and I've read the reviews & was even urged to go there by the lady at American Rag who did all my jeans, if she was not available. I just bought a pair of raw selvedge Levi's at American Rag (of course) and decided to bring in another pair I've had for a while but never got around to being hemmed. I walked in on a Saturday afternoon. Was greeted by a gentleman & a lady and was told to try on my jeans so we could get an accurate measurement. Kendall, I believe, was her name and she was quite helpful in her suggestions and advice on hemming the individual pairs. I was quite hesitant to cut the older pair as short as she suggested (i even went back to try them on again) but I relented and agreed. The brand new pair she suggested not to cut as short because she wanted to leave room for them to shrink when and if I eventually wash them. I totally didnt even think about that but I'm glad she had the knowledge and the foresight to bring it up and so did the gentleman that was also working there (manager?). In fact he asked if they were shrink to fit and we looked and the tab and they were. Reason being he had vintage pairs of Levi's upon Levi's that were no longer the inseam length they were made at after all these years and washes. I appreciated the knowledge. They charge up front & it's $25 for each pair of denim to be hemmed with original chain stitching. I got a call within less than a week from when I dropped them off. It was Thursday to be exact and was told they were ready. When I picked them up I was anxious and wanted to try them on again when I got to the store. The older pair looked so much shorter than I thought they were gonna be. I was freaking out. I tried them on & they were just right. I knew I'd had them for a while and had just worn them long (literally) so it took some getting used to seeing the new length. I purposefully rocked shoes I often wore with these jeans to get an accurate look. Not that it would've mattered right? If they were way too short, there was no going back & I knew that... The brand new raw selvedge pair I brought looked great after being hemmed. The original Levi's chain stitching was expertly duplicated and color matched. I was happy with the outcome even though I was freaked out initially. HAHA... Thank you to Kendall for helping me out and not let me wear my jeans sloppily bunched up at the bottom anymore. Ha! I fully recommend Denim Doctors for your cut & repair jobs. They have lots of vintage & brand new high-quality denim clothing in the store as well. Dropped them off, and Denim Doctors did a phenomenal job, very happy with the results and my favorite pair will live on a little bit longer. Sadly, this clearly exaggerated version of masculinity has a certain truth to it -- at least as far as societal expectations go. We expect guys to be strong and brave, willing to take on challenges and do "manly" things. And when they don't comply with these socially-imposed norms, we question their manhood by calling them "cowards" and "sissies." Now that we have that out of the way. I can tell you that when I dropped off my jeans at "The Denim Doctors on Washington" my manly-ness level felt that it dropped a few points due to me being a hands on guy and normally buy clothes that fit but after losing 30 lbs I missed my favorite jeans. I practically had an anxiety attack for the time that my jeans were there. The afternoon came to pick up my jeans after sleepless nights. I COULD NOT BELIEVE MY EYES. The jeans looked amazing inside and out. They did a huge amount of correcting along with removing a large amount of material. After the jeans were fitted 2 times!! for accuracy then the jeans were transformed into what I would call perfect!! The jeans look so good on me that I will be bringing in more jeans to them. The JEANS....holy mother$&@?3r They look like they came from the factory this way! While the seams looks like an artist painted her final master piece! I had a favorite pair of denim that died long ago, but I could never bring myself to get rid of them. These things were in bad shape, almost the whole crotch ripped out, holes all over. They sat in my closet for two years until I finally decided recently when another pair was starting to see it's final days that I would try the whole denim repair thing. Denim Doctors is a very inconspicuous little shop, one that you'd never notice if you weren't looking for it. I brought in three pairs of denim, two that were in very rough shape and one that needed just a small fix. I was quoted three weeks but was able to pay a $20 premium for a one week turn around time. I unfortunately did not take before and after photos, but I will say that I am extremely satisfied with the work that was done. You'd never know without extremely close inspection that they previously had been riddled with holes. One of my items wasn't done when quoted due to it being a little more work than expected and they did not hesitate to offer to drop them off to me at my office the following day. A+ on the customer service. What could be the kicker for some people here is the cost, over $400 for all three pairs. Could I have purchased two entirely new pairs of denim for this cost? Sure, but in my opinion you can't put a price on the happiness that is new life in that favorite pair of jeans (or two). I'll definitely be returning without hesitation and I recommend to anyone that's feeling a bit down about the condition of their denim to give these guys a try. You won't be disappointed! read more

I recently bought a perfecto jacket at the Schott store and was kind of bummed out when I got home and realized the sleeves looked way too big on me. After doing some research and being referred to this place by the actual Schott employees, I gave Denim Doctors a shot. And not only was I satisfied with the alteration, I was amazed. I was a little scared to let anybody alter the jacket because it's not cheap but man they did such a good job, it's perfect. I tore a hole in my favorite pair of Buffalo Jeans. I thought the jeans were headed to the recycle bin. Instead I found the Denim Doctors. They came highly recommended on Yelp and I can really see why people are raving. They were able to mend my pair in a few weeks. It is hardly noticeable. The mending is blended very well and the original torn spot feels reinforced. The repair might outlast the rest of the jeans. Also I had two leather watch straps that needed slight adjusting.
