Chicken tenders and I upgraded to onion rings.
Sandy S.

Stopped here on the way to SoCal. Parking was plentiful. Wasn't exactly sure about the seating situation as no one was there to greet me but I took a seat at the counter, no biggie. My food came within five minutes of ordering. It was piping hot and refreshing. Waitress checked on me multiple times and was really chill. Honestly, all the employees I saw interacting with guests and each other were really friendly, like they've been working together for a while and have a good rhythm. I liked seeing that. Bathrooms were a bit untidy but it's also a truck stop--I'm not expecting the Ritz when I walk in, ya know? I would trust this place again if I needed to come back out this way.

sweet syrup, rather have butter ...

I was headed down the 5 at Oh dark thirty headed to SoCal and breakfast time was approaching. Checking the GPS of what open at 4:30 am I came up with this Denny's. I give it to Denny's maybe not the best food around, but they come through when you need something to eat at all odd hours and easy freeway access. I pull in and it open! The service was fine and fast. I ordered a standard breakfast with hashbrowns , eggs scrambled, sausage and pancakes instead of my usual toast. I didn't have to wait long and my food arrived. That's a lot of food! I suppose if you were a big truck drivin man, this would be right up your alley! The hashbrowns were most fab. The eggs were eggs and the sausage links were OK. The pancakes ... or flapjacks as they might be call round these parts ... were light and fluffy and I slathered all the butter I could on those bad boys! Needless to say, I wasn't able to eat all that food and non of it really travels that well, so I had to leave some food on the plate. I'm happy Denny's was right here of the freeway and easy back on my way! I did get some coffee to go and that was good to keep the drive awake!

This is the second time I've eaten here and it's the only Denny's I've been to in recent memory. Once was for breakfast and I had the Fit Slam which was surprisingly good. I found myself here again but this time at 11pm so I thought I'd try dinner. The service was great maybe because the place was empty, but during a busy breakfast here it was just as good so they are two for two for me. It seems like a new Denny's the decor feels mid century modern meets diner and cafeteria. I like the booths and the counter but the tables are meh. I had a sirloin steak dinner which comes with two sides and garlic bread they call dinner bread all for $15.99. I was expecting to be disappointed and I was shocked at the quality of the steak and the flavors. I think garlic butter was involved. Cooked to perfection a couple chewy bites in there but nothing grizzly. So delicious some bites a little salty for my taste but I'm low sodium. I had the country style potatoes which are like deep fried and spiced and salted to perfection. Added a little Cholula to them and it was epic. The other side was a vegetable medley which I was expecting to be like frozen veggies that were steamed. Probably were frozen but I couldn't tell they were grilled up with onions and maybe butter and garlic and some spices. A nice mix of broccoli and bell peppers and zucchini and onions and carrots. I will postscript this with I haven't eaten in 6 hours and it was just nice to get out of the car for a while and relax in a peaceful restaurant with some warm good food.

It just felt dirty and sticky. The servers were nice, food wasn't bad, but the windows were filthy. I wouldn't stop there again.

Back then, we would order the Fettuccine Alfredo and the New York Style Cheesecake and I remember really liking it. I visited here present day and loved how absolutely nothing changed about the place. Our server, Gabriela was very nice and friendly and was attentive to all our needs. The gift shop still remains and the ambiance transports you back in time. I am very glad nothing has changed about this place. I decided to try something different and ordered the Mushroom Swiss sandwich with a side of pea soup. My husband ordered the Andersen's Chicken Sandwich with french fries on the side. We thoroughly enjoyed our meals. It was time for dessert, and I confidently asked for the Cheesecake. I was then told that it was discontinued from the menu as of 6 months ago. I was sad. But nonetheless, still enjoyed my meal! I can't wait until the next time I come back!

Review #:900! This place is definitely deserving of the honor…read more I've been coming here for years and years, sometimes driving down from Sacramento just to have lunch How have I never written a review? There used to be five different pea soup Andersen's, now this is the last one. The original, near Solvang, had to close because of the condition of the building, just shy of its hundredth birthday. When it is redeveloped, they hope to put a version of the restaurant back in. The place is a lot of fun. They have souvenirs, chatchkis, all kinds of different food items... you can buy the dried peas with a recipe card, or they also sell their soup in a can. . The canned soup tastes just like the restaurant. They have the original, but they also have a canned soup with bacon. The bacon is pulverized, so there are no chunks of it in the soup, but you can definitely taste it. It plays off of the pea soup so well. The soup they sell in the restaurant is made fresh, not canned, . They have a bar, dining room, and a coffee shop. Most people eat in the coffee shop. The coffee shop has a big menu, but of course the star is the pea soup. You can get the "travelers special", which is all you can eat pea soup, with all the fixins, and your choice of beverage, including a milkshake if you want one. The soup they serve in the restaurant, is both vegetarian and vegan, but you can't tell. It is amazingly rich, and creamy. The prices are reasonable and when you check out of the restaurant, they also have cookies, pastries, and even some candies. A nice upsell for dessert. Both the chocolate chip, and the white chocolate macadamia cookies are my favorite.... I'll be back. Thanks.

This visit happened to fall on Mother's Day weekend. We had reservations for both Saturday and Sunday, but we stopped in on Saturday to cancel that day's reservation since we'd already eaten lunch and knew we wouldn't be hungry by dinnertime. On Sunday, when we checked in for our reservation, I was impressed -- the hostess remembered us by name, which says a lot considering how many guests come through the restaurant. We were seated, and soon after we were greeted by Eleanor, our server. She was warm, attentive, and never made us feel pressured, which was a huge improvement from a previous visit. She answered every question I had, including how they cook a medium‑rare steak (every chef has their own interpretation, lol). She also gave an honest answer when I asked whether the vegetables used at dinner come from their greenhouse. The service felt genuine, and the food was excellent -- a much better experience than my last review. This visit was absolutely worth the return. Kudos to Eleanor and the Kitchen at The Mission.

We called about 20 mins in advance on our way from Casa de Fruta (where I could eat nothing). We'd never been there, always stopping for a pit-stop at Pea Soup Anderson's when going through that area. So first of all, the hotel grounds are beautiful, totally unexpected in this middle of nowhere hotel. The outdoor dining area for the restaurant is gorgeous and relaxing. The staff aware all polite and helpful. I had to wait a bit longer than expected but I grabbed the pizzas and took them to the car and was first of all shocked at how beautiful the pizza was. I got the California veggie pizza without mushrooms and added pepperoni, with gluten free crust. My husband got the same but not gluten free. This was one of the best gluten free pizzas I've EVER had. Everything as clearly freshly made. Amazing. Sad it's so far away from where I live! On the way out I checked out prices for the hotel...about 200 bucks a night. Totally reasonable. We'll be back here next time we're heading through this area!

Truly an excellent restaurant…read more My wife and I were on a road trip and were drawn in by the beautiful flower arrangements and the storefront sign, so we decided to have breakfast here. Atmosphere: This is a black bear-themed restaurant. The interior decorations are delightful, including the log accents and bear-themed items--there's even a great selection of bear-themed merchandise. The seats are spacious and comfortable, the table settings are clean, and there's not a speck of dust on the windowsills. Truly beyond expectations. Service: The staff member at the front--was she up too early? I didn't feel she greeted us with the energy this place should offer. Once we sat down, however, the other servers were very warm and enthusiastic--they introduced the menu, offered recommendations, and provided service with a smile. When I used to run my own restaurant, I always told my team: "Taste is subjective--you can't please everyone. But if guests feel they've received impeccable service, they won't leave a bad review. On the other hand, if the food is amazing but the service is lacking, they'll never come back." Taste: The service and atmosphere are ultimately just ways to enhance the meal. Eggs Benedict: The eggs were cooked to perfection, the roasted potatoes were just the right size, and the side salad was huge yet well-balanced--not too heavy in flavor. Using baby spinach instead of romaine lettuce was a very nice touch. Steak and eggs: I asked for medium-rare, but I think it was a bit overcooked--closer to medium-well. Coffee: Excellent. After we ordered, the staff very kindly told us that the food might take a little while and asked us to be patient. Meanwhile, the menu and table settings introduced the restaurant's history, which helps guests avoid feeling frustrated by a long wait. I thought that was a very nice touch. I used this same method in running my own restaurant--by consistently leaving a strong impression on customers, you encourage them to return. If the owner is interested, I'd be happy to share a few more tips from my own experience running a restaurant. If I'm ever on another road trip, I will definitely come back. All the best!
