I mean, it's a Denny's, you gotta set your expectations. They're open 24/7 so that's a plus when you're looking for some late night eats. I kept it simple with a burger and Oreo milkshake. Both were fine- nothing to write home about but definitely not bad. I think the key to decent food is to be specific with your waitress about how you want your food and, again, set your expectations accordingly. Our server was very kind. Kudos to her for working the night shift so gracefully, I don't think I could. The interior is definitely dated. I felt like I was pretty much sitting on the floor because the booths are so low lol. Having never been to this location before, I'd be remiss if I didn't think this would be at all good. However, for what it was, I had a good time! Everything tasted good, and while I wasn't a fan of the hash browns, the omelet and nachos were pretty tasty. The real highlight was our waitress and service staff however, because they really brought this place to life. Overall, it was decent! We stopped in for lunch recently mainly because we wanted to see Hartford's only Denny's and to have some of their great shredded hash browns. I had a breakfast of steak and eggs. It had an 8oz sirloin steak with two eggs, hash browns and toast. All for $15.99. The steak was very flavorful, although part of it had quite a bit of gristle. The hash browns were great, just as I remembered them; worth it just to have those. Our server, Shawn, was the epitome of friendliness and service. While I usually shy away from chains and stick to the "mom and pop" small businesses, I had to go to Walmart on Flatbush, and I was hungry... and so I went to Denny's. One thing I have always loved about Denny's is 1) they are very pro-veteran and 2) their "Build Your Own Grand Slam" breakfast. I also like that "almost a diner" ambiance. I LOVE, LOVE, LOVE DINERS! Today I went for the "Build Your Own Burger". I got a double burger with bacon. I wish I knew the name of the cook because both the burger and the bacon were cooked PERFECTLY! Anyone who has cooked bacon much knows that bacon is "perfect" for about 30 seconds. Before that it's Trichinosis-in-waiting and after it's burnt, or as some prefer to call it, "crisp". Yazmin H. was a very attentive server. She offered good advice on the size of the burger patties (I really didn't NEED the double, but did I mention I was hungry?) Add hot and fresh fries and an ice cold Coke, and you have a perfect lunch. On a Sunday at Noon, I was in and out in about 25 minutes! It wasn't very busy, I knew what I wanted, I had a good waitress, the cook was on point, I ate it, got my check and Yazmin offered a refill to-go, paid and was out. If you are military or a veteran, show your ID and save 15%. SIDE NOTE: In my opinion, you should always tip on the PRE-DISCOUNT total. This place seems to get either great reviews or terrible ones, and I think the reason is that it isn't in a wealthy part of town, and it doesn't have much in the way of atmosphere. Well, if you want unremarabe pricey food sauteed with pretentious marketing, Hartford abounds in those. I don't think I've ever been in a town with as many restaurants that leave you regretting that you came. To my great surprise, I can't say that about this Denny's. The food was well cooked, the service pleasant, the prices affordable, the background music remained in the background without being ear-shattering misogynistic rap (we're looking at you, Mecha). I expected the worst, and had one of the better dining experiences I've had around here. Would I go again? Absolutely. As I said, the surroundings are not wooded suburban glades and the interior isn't a pristine thing of spacious beauty; but if you value content over style, this place is a bargain. Came in with a large party of family. Restaurant was not very busy. Tried making the process as smooth for the server as possible (most of us were servers.) Service however was terrible. All of the food came out but 2 of the dishes and only when the majority of the family was practically finished eating because the server took too long to check on us. Drink refills were not offered to the table, and someone at the table had to propose some form of compensation due to the 2 very late meals. Server was not rude at all, but just seemed to not care about her job. We went at 10 pm on a Sunday. Nice server attitude. Lots of parking. There is nothing else encouraging to say about this place. The decor is horribly dated. The booth cushions will have you sitting almost on the floor. Some of the tables are leveled with dirty napkins under the feet. The food is very over priced for what you get, the taste is meh at best and the portion sizes are subpar. The service is extremely slow. They ask you to pay without showing the bill. We ordered drinks with refills but the server never came back to see if we wanted a single refill. There are no napkins on the tables. I could not possibly recommend this place. I don't know how this chain remains in business. Decades ago Arsenio Hall famously disparaged this chain, and at the time, it felt a bit unwarranted. In all the years I been traveling, this is the worst service (of the 3 times in total) that I felt the need to share. I expected exactly what I ordered, First issue, I find out from the door dash driver that they do not have milkshakes (online it posted it was available, so I asked if we can substitute it with apple pie, that was denied. They said they would make a "personal special dish" we get fruit and cool whip. We didn't receive our full order of double berry pancakes or the second side order of bacon. The cook needs to get some serious training. Good Lord, this is just embarrassing. Especially since you couldn't get the order right or the right order you refuse to substitute something as simple as a pie, I would have had no problem paying the difference but damn, Im sure glad I didnt. Extremely gross this place needs to be managed by someone who cares about servicing the people. The waitress's outfit is filled with old stains, along with the tables and chairs in the facility. The maple syrup and table station are full of handprints and dirt. I cannot believe that a person who runs this location would allow such standards. The service here was horrendous. We walked in and accidentally seated ourselves since the hostess/server blatantly ignored us. We were then told we can stay where we were seated but it was not seat yourself, we waited there for 10 minutes with no menus or any greeting and when we walked back up to the hostess stand, the hostess/server was rude to us and gave us attitude saying she was coming over there. We left immediately after this since we did not want her to bring us any food since she was clearly upset we even came into the restaurant. For a Denny's, it was a pretty pleasant dining experience. I came with a large group and received exactly what I ordered in a timely manner. I went out on a limb and tried their caramel banana cream pancakes with eggs, hashbrowns, and sausage links and it was delicious. My midnight meal was well worth $10. Our waitress was very nice and, although she messed up a couple people's orders, she got them their correct orders at the end and was very apologetic. The poor girl was waiting on all 20 of us alone. For the most part she did a good job but she kept a great attitude the whole time. She organized the way we'd pay our checks well, which made payment easy. Very understaffed! The only good part of our experience was our incredible server, Shonda B. She was single-handedly running the restaurant. However someone came in and threw glass towards the chef, which had a negative effect on the ambiance. Our food was served (2 hours after ordering) with glass in it. I think this place tries to be bad on purpose so people don't show up. Because it just doesn't make sense. Recently I went to pick up an order as I was doing Uber eats(I don't eat her because the place is just so bad.) When I showed her the receipt, she grudgingly went to pour 2 coffees (I ordered decaf and regular) but she just gave 2 regular coffees like she couldn't be bothered. I went out on a Saturday evening to treat my family of four to Denny's obviously. When I got there, there is nobody in the restaurant, it was vacant. We we got seated like usual. The service was OK. I ordered mango lemonade. It so watery. I couldn't even taste the lemon and I had to stir the powder at the bottom, because it wasn't even real mangoes. It was powdered mango. They didn't even stir it up for me. I asked the waitress to help me choose what I should get for my order and I asked between a double burger and classic samplers.
