I like that lunch specials are available on Saturdays and until 5 pm because sometimes you just want lighter fare/smaller portions. It's a great option. Of course, that just leaves more room for the free popcorn appetizer. Service is solid and booths are nice and spacious. There are several TVs around for sports viewing. The pretzel bites were nice and soft with delicious dipping mustard and cheese sauce (like a nacho cheese with a little spice kick). I got the chicken BLT wrap and was able to substitute in broccoli instead of fries. Wrap was nice, broccoli was okay, but it was great to be able to reduce calories. I'm writing this update in April 2023 and am so happy to see this location is still open (as some locations have closed) and continuing to serve great food and provide awesome service. After the pandemic, we've grown accustomed to ordering food for home delivery, and have ordered delivery from here several times over the past and were not disappointed. The first time I ordered a steak, and it turned out amazing. It was cooked to perfection and tasted great! Every order we've placed since then has been the same. The food is cooked to perfection. It arrives piping hot, and there hasn't been a single mistake on any of them. This is such a nice treat because so many places can't seem to get their delivery orders right, and when something is wrong with a delivery order, it's a huge thing because you can't just tell the wait staff and get it corrected. The experience is the same if you eat here in person too. The orders are always correct. The staff is super friendly, and we always have a good experience. Whoever's in charge at this location has clearly set the bar high and has a great staff. Thankful for restaurants like this that provide good food and quality service. read more

99 is one of my go to spots in the area. Even though it's a chain restaurant, I am never disappointed with the food. I've tried all kinds of stuff - burgers, wraps, wings, and they're always delicious. This time I went with the steak tips, which were very flavorful and cooked perfectly. My guest got a burger, which she was very happy with. I also got the $5 Jose Cuervo margarita. I used to love coming for happy hour for discounted beers and $5 apps, but they recently changed the hours from 3-6 to 3-5 so unfortunately I can't make it anymore. The service is usually pretty decent, it can get a bit slow but nothing too bad. They have a huge bar which is fun to sit around. Probably my favorite chain in the area! read more

The choices didn't appeal to me in the appetizer area so we got tempura cauliflower with sriracha sauce but it wasn't seasoned enough for my liking - everyone is different. This is the fourth entry for my summer 2022 CT Lobster Roll review. I visited 9 locations, 6 in the greater Hartford/central CT area so each has two rankings. This rating is also for the overall restaurant and the poor experiences there I've had over the years. The lobster roll is actually pretty good, they lose a little because you have to get it as a combo and it is on the pricier side. It comes with a nice 6" brioche NE style roll with a generous amount of lobster meat in a bowl (average around 4 1/2 oz of meat on an approx 2 oz roll). Though the meat is warm and moist it doesn't seem like whatever it's in is butter. That takes it down another notch because a hot buttered (CT) lobster roll is - buttered. The sides are decent, nothing special but more often than not by the time you get your food it is cold. At least half the visits I've made here for curbside pickup I've had to get out of my car and go into the restaurant to track someone down after waiting in my car for 10-15 minutes. With nobody at the entrance my food is usually sitting in a bag in a cubby by the door. The restaurant is almost never busy and every time I will see employees hanging out in back by the kitchen talking to each other or doing anything else but working. If it's not that it's forgetting utensils (they claim you have to request those but I've gotten soup from there that ALWAYS comes with a spoon, they also don't make that obvious in the ordering process and management seems tone-deaf about it. They've called to let me know that items I ordered online were not available but still left me waiting when I got there for "curbside" pickup. So as far as the lobster roll goes, 99 comes in at #5 of 6 for the Hartford area rolls and #7 of 9 for all of them. It's actually a decent roll and a good size if you can get over all the service issues. If it were not for the roll these guys would be 1-1 1/2 stars at best but I can't bring myself to get them much further above a 2 star rating unless they make some effort to provide better service. read more

So my mom wanted to try their lobster rolls on the way to a thing. She said it was ok but not as much lobster as their Bristol location. I got the tips n tenders. Tips were great. Nice seasoning and cooked medium as I asked but someone left the chicken in the fryer too long and I got chicken jerky . They forgot my fathers coleslaw and gave him potatoes he didn't order. Forgot my cocktail. My dad said his baked fish was okay but had no flavor. Not the worst experience but there are plenty of other places to try. read more

We went today for Happy Hour and were surprised to see new bartenders. We have been going there for the last 35 years and will absolutely miss Danielle. We didn't get the name of the bartender who first served us but we loved her and thought she was very friendly and personable. At 4:00 another bartender Melissa came on and I ordered another Pistachio Martini. The drink was made completely different and didn't even taste the same. I brought it to her attention and showed her the picture I took of my first drink from the other bar tender (I had taken the picture to send to my niece to show her that 99 was now serving Pistachio Martinis our favorite drink). She claims she has been there for 16 years which surprised us because we have been going there for 35 which she didn't know and we have never seen her. I even asked her since we have never seen her before, so have you worked more in the dining area and she claimed no she has been in the bar area for 16 years. Okay on to my Pistachio Martini she Said that She made the drink the way it is supposed to be made according to how the establishment wants it to be made and "she" the other bartender obviously added more liquor to the drink which was wrong and that is WHY establishments like 99 are going under and losing money. Are you kidding me Melissa shame on you for BASHING your coworker when obviously you didn't know how to make the drink. I certainly hope customers as well as your coworkers will read this review to know that you don't know how to make a drink and that you don't have your coworkers backs. read more

I really wanted to take my lady piece out for a well balanced, classic New England, low priced, and eco friendly lunch. The 99 in Glastonbury did not disappoint! Our server Mike did an amazing job in ensuring me and my lady thing were satisfied! Also, the Manager Chris was great! I told him how my dream was to be a line cook but my arthritis prevents me from utilizing tongs when used repeatedly. Well after having that discussion with him, Chris made my dream come true! He gave me an OFFICIAL 99 restaurants uniform, gave me a tour of the kitchen, and even allowed me to plate up a wing and skin! My grands and I went for dinner on Friday, August 13, 2021. Our server's name was Ashley. She was friendly and she did all she felt necessary to ensure we had an enjoyable dining experience. My grandson has major food allergies. It was a plus to learn they had Gluten-free hamburger buns. The burger he ordered had a sauce we didn't realize came with the order. When we saw it, and explained to Ashley his food issues, without hesitation, she took it and had a new one made. It wasn't a busy night; we were seated immediately. "Thoroughly okay" is how I'd describe this totally mediocre restaurant that specializes in 9 real deal meals for $9.99 each. I had lunch here today with my 14 year old son and one of his friends. Everything was totally mostly fine. We shared nachos. They were pretty good. My hamburger was supposed to be cooked medium, but was crunchy and well done. The mashed potatoes side dish were kind of gross. Both boys ate most of their entrees. I am not in any rush to return, but if I do I will return from 3-6 Monday through Friday and order off their happy hour menu, where some decent appetizers like the nachos are only $5 each. read more

The 99 is not a fancy restaurant. If you are expecting a high end steak or a gourmet meal, this is not your spot. This is the place you go for a nice time, a decent prize and better than average food. You know what you are going to get and what you get is good. You can treat the 99 in two different ways. It is a great family spot and it is a perfect "sit at the bar and eat" location. I've done it both ways many times and have never, especially at the Glastonbury location, left disappointed or unsatisfied. The 99 is known for their steak tips and they never screw them up. They are delicious and worth every penny. From Thursday-Sunday, they offer the prime rib. It is better than average and a good deal for what you get. Just make sure you are very specific on the temperature. If you aren't watching calories and are in for a pig-out kind of party, I cannot recommend the wings and skins sampler enough. It's about 1500 calories, but it is the best item they offer. Take that down with one of their pretty standard draft beers (22 ounces though and often cheap) and it's the perfect Friday after work. The decor, in Glastonbury, is like most. They try to cater to the area with Glastonbury High school team photos as well as Patriots and Red Sox stuff. Think "local sports bar". My one and only complaint, and it is real random, is that all the other 99's in NH and MA offer cheese/crackers and this location (or any of the CT locations) do not. I have no idea why. I also can never get an answer when asked. Do i really need cheese/crackers when i gorge myself on popcorn? Certainly not, but i do like the option. So, in conclusion, if you have a bunch of kids or just some fun time buddies, this is the perfect spot. Nice people, decent food, and always fun. read more

I don't understand how this place went downhill so fast. We used to go there a year ago and had a great time. What a difference a year makes. The noise of shouting conversation from the bar over music makes it hard to hear anything else. Order soup and your meal comes with an offer to take soup off the check but no actual soup. Order fries and they try to heat up fries from some other order in the microwave. Order salmon and risk your life that it had gone bad and is still being served. Be warned now that the waitress will serve you a very hot Plate without telling you how hot the plate is. Why were the mashed potatoes served cold on the hot Plate? We may never know what passes for culinary skill there. Expect to pay the check even if you complain about poor service and inedible food. Buyer beware. read more

Now, for this particular place, I've been to a few times with the family, and I'm torn between just a 3 star, and 4 star, but, I'm going 4. We've always had good service, never a long wait for a bigger (6+) party, and the food has been good. Normally I get steak tips, and quite a few places will severely over-cook them, and nothing I dislike more than steak that's ruined by heat. When we got the bill. All of the food for the 12 of us was below 200 which is a very small price for what we ordered. Our food has been either always under cooked or over done... The service on the restaurant side is generally bad. Our last waitress has brought out the wrong drinks, our to-go order came out before the appetizer and I would have complained but she split and left without telling us. Our new waitress came by after our food was delivered by kitchen staff and said, " I don't know if your waitress told you she was leaving, but is now gone, how was your meal? Any refills?" ... Little too late to fix anything now as we were ready for the check. The only good thing I can say... Quick seating for two on a Friday night. It was quite busy but we got pretty good service. I got the hot buttered lobster roll and it was unfortunately only mediocre. The lobster pieces were a bit overcooked and not so plump and moist. There also wasn't that much. The french fries tasted like they were cooked in old oil. Plan B's lobster sliders appetizer is the same price but much tastier. My husband got a burger and it was good. Their side salads come with huge slices of raw mushrooms and a lot of them. I wouldn't mind a few but it was a bit much. I had their balsamic vinaigrette but it was more like a rose wine vinaigrette, slightly pink and pretty sweet and sour. We had a coupon for $5 off so our meals were pretty decently priced in the end. Just not sure I'd hit this chain up given better options in the area. read more

Went in today for the surf and Turf special. We usually go for the tips which are awesome. The bar was not busy, maybe 4 couples. My wife and I both ordered our steak medium rare, her's came out well done, mine was fine. Cooked another steak for her, came out rare. Reheat another 10 minutes, still on the rare side. Meanwhile I'm done with my dinner. She ate a quarter of the steak and left the rest. I'm not sure if the manager was around, but the bartender and the servers were in constant conversation with each other ignoring the customers. In reality the "colossal" lobster roll was about average lobster roll size. The lobster itself was not terrible, but the roll was very soggy on the bottom and the roll tasted stale. I've eaten here several times with my family over the course of many years. Hadn't been there in a while so me, my sister, & my niece decided to go for dinner. We ordered the buffalo chicken dip which we ended up sending back because it was watery and on the cold side. We got another 1 which was also watery & not that tasty. My sister got the French onion soup which was lukewarm. Her theory is that it's become an old person restaurant so nothing is served hot. My pickle burger was fine, but the bbq sauce was overpowering & they skimped on the pickles (disappointing considering the name). The fries were limp & cold so I didn't eat more than 2 or 3. We also took a burger to go for my brother in law and for some reason they literally gave him less than 10 fries. They gave me the fries and charged me for the biscuit. When I told him that he said that is their policy. I order from them almost weekly and they always substitute at no charge for me. I am a loyal customer that they just lost because of this and I will be sure to tell everyone I know the horrid service I got today.
