This Denny's like many out there has seen better days. The service here is wonderful, but the place is shabby. The first booth we sat in, almost sank into the seat cushion, and the 2nd booth was not much better. Things I wish Denny's would get better. $3.99 for coffee. Why charge that much when you don't serve natural sugar or real cream or half and half. That international delight they have for creamer is full of preservatives. And to put the coffee into perspective, I ordered an every day slam which was $6.99. A full meal and it was literally 2 bucks more than the coffee. I got lucky though because the coffee was actually decent this time. And, they gave me milk for my coffee. Our server Melissa was the very best. It was breakfast so generally you can't mess that up. My family loves Denny's, so we go pretty often. Tonight, I ordered the Super Bird with the Seasoned fries. It was delicious! My Mom and older brother Bill, shared the Chicken Parmesan. They absolutely loved it. They have been to every Italian restaurant in town, but their favorite is Denny's. My younger brother, Jonathan got the Super Slam and said it was a good deal and it was tasty. Our server, was so friendly and accommodating. It has large booths for a real diner feel. I am very sorry to say that I will never be visiting the Denny's location on South Florida Ave. in Lakeland FL ever again. My wife and I decided to have an early dinner for Father's Day and since I received a text message from Danny's for $10 off of $30 for Father's Day, we decided to eat there. The staff was courteous and we were attended quickly. My wife ordered lemonade and I asked for a glass of ice water. Shortly later the waiter informed my wife that they were out of lemonade so my wife ordered something different. We received our drinks and ordered our meals. We were just 1 of 3 dine in guests or tables at that moment so there wasn't much going on in the establishment to warrant any rush or lack of attention to the quality of the food being served but nevertheless, when our food was delivered to our table, I received what has to be the runniest, most unappealing looking mac n cheese I have ever seen in my life. The brisket was just small husks of burnt, dry junk that was dry and crunchy. I was served 6 onion rings on the plate and 3 tasted fresh and were crispy while the other 3 were soggy and cold. My wife received her plate and her bacon and sausage were cold and the bacon was soggy as well. I was not happy with the quality of the food but I tried to eat it but I only had about 3 bites when a smell emanating from my meal made my stomach turn and I couldn't eat anymore. It seemed to be coming from the mac n cheese. It smelled like rust or something like metal shavings. When another waiter passed by and asked if I was done with my plate I asked them if they smelled what my wife and I smelled from my plate and when she smelled it she agreed that it did smell awful, like metal as well. The best that I can describe the smell as is of a old scouring pad that has started to rust. She informed me that she would take it away and bring me something else but I was disappointed with my meal and decided that I would not like anything else. She offered to take the dish off my bill but I declined because I didn't want to seem like I was trying to get a free meal. My wife also left almost half of her meal because of the sausage and bacon being cold and soggy. We proceeded to the checkout and when we presented my text message from Denny's for the aforementioned promotion price, we were informed that it was only for takeout or delivery. This is the second time I have dined at this particular location and like I mentioned before, will be last. I did receive a coupon from the cashier for 20% off our next order but I feel like it may never get used. Since the establishment was almost empty of customers and there were plenty of staff, I believe that the food quality should've been better and that more attention to detail in what they are handing out in their dishes should've been better as well. I've worked for dennys for a while and I loved the joy I've brought to customers as well as the good energy I've encountered by the customers but the management at this specific location is HORRIBLE. There's been plenty of complaints to the corporate office (Eym Diner) and the company refuses to take action against those who actually DESERVES to be penalized but instead take the frustration out on the hard working employees that only comes to work to make a living and bring joy to the customers we've come across. Dennys betrayed to be a family but instead is the total opposite and stick by their own, back each other (meaning management) and no matter how much proof you have to back your claims, they will do nothing to protect their servers who they will disregard as they mean nothing to them but another body. I've been coming to this dennys faithfully for 2 years. My waiter was always Apple her costumer service was exceptional she always made sure our food was made to perfection no matter if it was slow or fully packed. Today we attended come to find out she is no longer there. So we decided to still give it a try I had the all America slam both my ham and my glutton free muffin tasted like cleaning chemicals . My husband had the T-bone steak and as you can see in the picture the seasoning wasn't cooked it was given on the side and sprinkled on top or even cooked. This was so disappointing to see and even wrost to taste. The waitress wasn't the issue it was the cooks obviously. But it sad to see that a good employee is gone and food quality diminished right along with it. I will never go back to Dennys nor recommend it either. read more

To start, I haven't been to a Denny's since the 80's, all the way back to when Denny's converted many of the bankrupted Sambo's locations. I was younger then and Denny's was the go-to place in the wee hours of the morning after a night out. I'm 72 now and those days are long gone. I've lived in Lakeland for 35 years and have never been to a Denny's here. Tuesday, 5/7/2024, I had an 11:30 am doctor's appt. close to Denny's on S. Fla. Av. Afterwards, the wife and I were heading for lunch when I spotted Denny's and made a quick decision to pull in ... maybe for old-times sake? HUGE mistake! Probably the worst dining experience I've had for as far back as I can remember. The first sign should have been that the restaurant was basically empty, right in the middle of the weekday lunch "rush"! We sat and only waited a short while before ordering. For me, country fried steak, mashed potatoes, onion rings and garlic toast. I also asked for extra gravy on the side along with a glass of water. The wife also ordered the country fried steak, French fries (asked for them CRISPY) and a small salad, accompanied by garlic toast and water. Then the wait started .... and continued ... and continued ... and CONTINUED. The wife and I were beginning to wonder if they'd forgotten about us. I did not keep track of the time, but it was totally ridiculous, especially considering the restaurant was practically empty. FINALLY the food arrived and the waitress (didn't get her name) simply plopped it down on the table, didn't say a word and walked off. The whole time we had waited, the wife could have at least eaten her salad, but it was delivered with the meal. I joked with her and asked if she'd prefer to eat her salad while it's cold and crisp, while her meal gets cold ... or would she prefer a hot meal while her salad gets warm and limp? Her fries were average, but NOT well done/crispy, as ordered. We let it slide. It's then I noticed I had French fries on my plate although I'd ordered onion rings. I flagged down the waitress and reminded her of the original order and she disappeared, only to return and inform me they were out of onion rings! I informed her I did not want fries and proceeded to order hash browns and asked for them "extra crispy". Off she went toward the kitchen. I then realized I'd never received the side of extra gravy, but the waitress was nowhere to be seen and our food was getting cold, so I just wrote it off and began my meal. Now, country fried steak is one of my favorite meals, but this was, without a doubt, the worst I've ever had in my life, at least that I can recall. The meal was served with a steak knife, but I never needed it. I could cut it (VERY easily) with a fork! Good, right? NO! The "steak" had the texture and consistency of fried, beef-flavored, toothpaste! It was literally, fried "mush" with a very light crust. At some point during the meal, the waitress walked by and dropped off (then kept walking, not saying a word) a small plate with white, BARELY browned, hash browns floating in a pool of oil. They actually looked one tiny step above raw. To add insult to injury, I'd placed my, now empty, water glass at the edge of the table for a refill, but she never even stopped as she dropped off the hash browns. I proceeded to drink my wife's water as she drinks very little with her meal. We ate our meal and I saved the hash browns to take home. The wife said she'll fry them up for my breakfast the next day. She also decided to take her undercooked fries home to reheat and finish cooking in the air fryer at home. Ok, it was a terrible experience. Could it get any worse? As we sat waiting for our bill, the waitress again flew by the table and dropped a small plate off on her way by. It was our cold, oily, garlic toast! We'd forgotten all about it ... and evidently the waitress had also. It was so cold, we assumed it had been sitting at the pick-up window through our whole meal. We added it to the fries and hash browns to reheat at home. We continued to wait for our bill and when it finally arrived, the waitress spotted my empty water glass and asked if I'd like a refill. Really? Please let me add, I don't make a habit of leaving negative reviews. I know it's not the right thing to do, but normally, if I have what I consider a bad meal, I pay my tab and simply never return. We're normally big tippers, but we just did an obligatory 15% and wrote this meal off as a total disaster. Looking back, I can't think of ONE thing right about it, other than I have no complaint about the mashed potatoes and gravy, even though there was just a dab of gravy on them. There was so much WRONG with this experience, I just felt I should write this LONG diatribe. Of all the places that have closed up over the years, especially during Covid, I have no clue how this place is still in business. As for ambience? The staff was extremely friendly. I have no complaints in regards to them. However the food was rough. I ordered the peanut butter pancake. I am not sure exactly what I pictured? Maybe a light layer of peanut butter on top or in the middle? When my pancake arrived it was hard to even tell it was a pancake. It honestly looked like a jar of peanut butter puked on a pancake. The peanut butter tasted awful too. The sausage and eggs I ordered I also was not a fan of. Denny's might be a nice place to get a cup of hot chocolate. However the food was not that great. This Denny's appears to be a worn diner with inconsistent help. My most recent visit, there were ZERO luscious pies in the pie case--it looked rusted and broken. I'm never sure if anyone will come to seat me as I stand at the podium. Their breakfasts are consistently good (and probably bad for you nutritionally). The dinners are less so. It disappoints me that they have few great salad dressings, few vegetarian options (and no baked potato). I settled on a house salad, balsamic dressing and onion rings. The balsamic was extremely brown and thick as sludge (but edible, just not appetizing). Service was sub-par, my drink glass was not refilled, the register person did not know how to do a charge card so it was easier to spend my cash and she expressed relief. Customers were few so that I wondered if this Denny's was supporting itself....but I could tell why. This store needs some reworking and quality leadership. I would choose IHOP or Bob Evans over Denny's at present. read more

I understand that it's the holiday season and lunch time on a Saturday but today was disappointing. The best part of my experience today was Darrion, the host. Very energetic and positive personality. Another plus was there is a balloon lady making balloons for the kids. I usually come to Denny's often and have pretty good service with pretty good food but sadly today was very different. The coffee was burnt and I barely saw my server. (Again very busy so I understood she's running around good personality as well for the craziness of ho busy ) we ordered fast but our food took a while (again understand) but not only did the food take a while my sandwich was burnt and the fries were under cooked. If I ever teach a class in Customer Service again, as I once did in Castle Hayne, North Carolina, I will reference the staff and cooks of this Denny's as an example of everything a business should do right. Yes, most of my Yelp reviews are not kind because so many restaurants, furniture stores, cable companies and pharmacies take their customers for granted. That is not the case with this restaurant. They are stellar. My wife and I have been to many Denny's before but they pale in comparison to this one. Their waitresses and waiter are friendly, courteous and thorough. I used to love going to Denny's up North; however, after visiting this location and the one in Davenport, I can honestly say no more. At this particular location, I took my mom and younger brother there. My mom got a patty melt (absolutely disgusting looking and dripping with grease.), I got the turkey club (and I've had much better), and my brother got the all you can eat pancakes. Third time / last time. Keeps getting worse. Waited 1 hour for food (not that busy either) and it arrived with plastic silverware and 2 orders that were wrong. After correcting that, the over-medium eggs were a disc of rubber and the shredded potatoes were burnt so badly they were not edible. New eggs, new potatoes. English muffin for drop eggs arrived late and eggs got cold. It just goes on and on. Last straw is waitress coming out of bathroom while zipping pants and then sticking hand down pants to tuck the shirt in. No hand-washing involved. Let me tell you a story. Matt. He is single-handedly the greatest employee at this establishment. He was clearly down in this shift due to being the only server present, but he did not let that stop him. The chef was new and struggling, and Matt took it upon himself to fill in the gaps. Matt took orders, cooked the food, handled problems when ingredients were gone and made some of the best food I've had at this location. Matt deserves a raise, possibly a promotion. My friends and I have eaten here at least 100 times and this is the only time I've left a review. Matt made that much of an impact. read more

Grease. Grease. Grease. Went in on a Saturday morning and there was only one waitress and one cook for about 7-10 tables. Took a couple minutes to waive the waitress down who was running around grabbing drinks for everyone else. Then, took another 25 minutes for our order to come out. Food was so greasy. My eggs and hash browns were drenched in grease. They had a really old woman watching the checkout desk. She took a good 10 minutes to walk across the dining room to check us out.
