They have two big signs advertising an all-day special that includes fries and a drink. When I asked my server, Marissa, she told me it didn't come with a drink -- first red flag. I thought maybe I misunderstood, so I double-checked the signs. When the check came, I pointed out that it clearly says the deal includes a drink. She said it's "not in the system" and that the manager wasn't there. I told her I expected to pay the advertised price. She got upset and said, "I'll pay for your drink." Fine -- the drink was removed from the check. Then I noticed an extra charge for an "add American slice." I never asked for that. Did I even receive an American slice? I had such a fast, easy curbside pick up experience here. I ordered curbside pick up online and it gave me a 30-45 min eta. I ended up getting to the restaurant about 20 min early and just as I parked, someone was immediately walking out to my car with my order. I come to this Denny's restaurant very often and the manager Peggy is usually my server and she always lets me substitute the hash browns with 2 strips of bacon with my breakfast orders. This is the 6908 Miramar Rd, San Diego location. We were pleasantly surprised by this Denny's. We had just gotten out of the ER at the nearby UCSD hospital at 3am and neither of us had eaten lunch or dinner. We were looking for a 24 hr. resturant that wasn't Mexican food (we were looking for a more breakfast like menu). We saw that there was a Denny's nearby, opened on the way home (Vista) for us. We were expecting over priced menu offerings with a extremely limited Senior selection. That was the first pleasant surprise. It was around 3:30 am and the Resturant was mostly empty (maybe 5 tables taken) and was seated immediately. We requested a seat near a plug because my phone was about to die and needed to be charged. Waiter said no problem. We sat down and looked at the menu. A different person came over and asked if we were rady to order. We weren't, but he could bring my husband coffee, and me a glass of iced water with lemon slice. Drinks arrived quickly, as well as cutlery and napkins. We gave our order which was the Senior bacon and cheesy scrambled eggs with pancakes each but I requested hash browns instead of pancakes ($8.99 + 50¢ egg surcharge). Waiter wasn't sure he could substitute so he checked. Came back with a yes. The order was placed. To be honest, we were expecting the bacon to be the tiny transparent pieces we've gotten before from the Denny's near us. We were so pleasantly surprised that the bacon was actually decent. They were not huge pieces, but they were larger and enough thickness not to be transparent. Wow! Surprise Surprise! Our eggs were great. My husband enjoyed his pancakes, I enjoyed my hash browns. He drank his coffee and got refills for the drive home. We even got ice cream for dessert (we split 2 scoops with whipped cream, for $3). We were able to make it home safely since my husband was supercharged with coffee. Overall, we had a far better experience than we were expecting. Our waiter was great. I would like to commend him, but lost my receipt with his name on it. He was very congenial and alert to any of our needs. He was a tall and slender man with dark hair. That's the best I can do. Sorry. The Resturant was very clean, and the bathroom was also. It's nice to know of a well run Denny's. Wish it was near us in location. read more

Called in a 2 salad order, asking to prepare as soon as possible, arrived in 15 minutes to find out that no one even started working on my order. Waited 30 more minutes to receive it. When spoke to Julio at the front, he mentioned that they have new cook that made a mistake and he asked him to re-make it. I ordered 2 salads over the phone and waited 45 minutes. No wonder the restaurants are a joke these days. Charging more, giving less in quality and service. Oh, and portions are another topic. Every time I eat there I get diarrhea. I was told they change their cooking oil once a week. That sounds gross. I never reuse cooking oil at my home, nor do I get sick eating at home. Used to come in when they offered coupons, owner has several franchises, doesn't look like he's going to offer anymore coupons. Getting tired of the 50c egg surcharge when egg prices have decreased. During this current culinary tour, going to a Denny's typically isn't on the list. The choice for this was based on my father's fascination with this chain. Although, there's not any real dislike towards this company, it's normally not one personally frequented. Like many Dennys locations visited, they too honor a military discount, which would have been a great disappointment if they didn't given the proximity of this store to the military installation. This review is to highlight that between the decor, atmosphere, friendliness of the staff, and food portion to value earns the 4 stars. The reduced star is related to food temp. It was a bit cooler than expected for a fresh plate. There is a sign on the door that informs you of supply chain issues that may affect availability of some items. This was so in the toast for our meal. 2 of 4 were available. The same with coffee creamer options. The cost of a cup has definitely increased from what I've been accustomed. If I drove around the corner to the nearby chain coffee supplier, I'm pretty sure it would have actually cost me less (even with my eligible free refills). There was a pancake featured that had me torn between the promotion and a traditional "slam". In building my own, actually saved me about $2-3. They offer a good variety of options for 55+ diners. This also saved on my pocketbook with my father taking advantage of an item. Arriving with a happy greeting and a thankful departure from their staff leaves you desiring a return to this location when the opportunity arises. read more
