I have been coming to this Denny's for YEARS and always get the nicest greetings from the staff. Many of the servers already know what I want and just chk to confirm before placing my order. It is all very much appreciated. They all take such good care of me and their other customers, as well. Marisol, the mgr, usually stops for a quick chat, as do Susan, Ilse, Alberto, Neri, Adriana, and others, as they pass by collecting their food orders, filling coffee/drinks and welcoming people as they enter. Editing my review to include our recent experience. We always have great service except when Marisol "helps" out. I believe she's also a manager. She just doesn't seem to be able to handle the pressure. She's always rude. She couldn't get our order right and was super frustrated with us. Then she proceeded to give us the wrong order and said there was nothing she could do about it since it was processed. Like what??? I always notice her being rude to the servers as well. I always feel bad for them. I never see her in a good mood. I just don't understand how she's the manager when the servers do a better job than her. Marisol is not a people person. Which is sad because we love everyone there. No matter what time of the day my family and I come, we are taken care of. I usually come during the day with my family, and the service is immaculate and the food is delicious. I also come at night for a late night snack with friends and the service and food is just as good. This particular Dennys (on el Cajon blvd) is always n point. Wednesday afternoon lunch with my friend. This was my first visit but my friend is a regular here. He was warmly greeted by Susan. We grabbed a booth towards the back. I ordered the Cobb Salad, minus croutons, add grilled chicken with balsamic vinaigrette and Ranch on the side. He ordered Chicken Fried Steak, broccoli and potato soup. He rated his meal 7. I gave mine a 5. My salad would have been better with either Romaine lettuce or Mixed Greens. Good value for quantity and quality. It's consistent with diner food. Service was great. Bonus points for parking. I think I'll stick to the breakfast menu. read more

A good value and well executed. This dennys was unfortunately sub par. The service was okay. The restaurant didn't seem super clean. The ambiance was again just okay. I ordered the salted banana cream pancakes and the presentation was absolutely terrible. It has a dash of caramel and no cream. I complained about it but they didn't take the plate back to fix it. I placed my New Berry Waffle Slam Order with Carmen for my breakfast today. My order also includes 2 scrambled egg's, hash browns and my choice of 4 slices of turkey bacon. My New Berry Slam price is $20.19. The Hash browns are $3.29. And the Signature Blend Decaf Coffee was $3.29. My total bill with tax was $29.45. Then I gave Carmen a $5.00 tip for her very friendly customer service. Carmen was very nice to me and my friend Michelle. My total bill was $34.45. This New Berry Slam includes Slices of big sweet strawberries and blueberries, 2 Belgian Waffles, This Caramel Syrup is poured onto these Belgian Waffles with Powdered Sugar. This New Berry Waffle Slam is very Filling and Yummy ! I don't need Maple Syrup. This new Berry Waffle it was sweet and very delicious! The other Grand Slam Breakfast included 2 Fluffy Scrambled Eggs, 4 Turkey Bacon and a large portion of crispy Hash Browns. I will definitely order this New Berry Grand Slam again soon. This might be the highest rating I've ever given a Denny's. We were the only group there on a Tuesday morning at 130am, so the service was quick, and everything came out hot. I tried the maple donuts, which unfortunately were a bit burnt and not as sweet as I expected. The syrup on the table was congealed, making it difficult to pour. One person had the Bourbon Bacon Burger which I had a bite of and I thought was fabulous. Another the Lumberjack Slam which she enjoyed for her first Denny's experience and the last had a Turkey Club which looked delicious. All of those were well-prepared and flavorful. The restaurant itself was clean and well-maintained, which added to the overall experience. Because usually it's a hot mess. Overall, it was a decent meal with some minor hiccups, but still a better visit than anticipated. Parking lot was small. A few spots. Lots of street parking available. It's off of a busy street and next to Layfayette Hotel. read more

This is my go to place. Whenever I am hungry, I can always find something I like and they have lots of specials both here and the one in National City. North Park won't take my AARP card; I don't know why. NC is bigger and gives better service but if you're hungry and want something good, that is the place to go. read more

Obviously, I eat crap food or I wouldn't be ordering for Denny's. But today was just an insult. I get a couple of chunks of chicken that they try to pass off as buffalo wing bites. They're black and I'm not sure what kind of "sauce" with used, but it's not like what I've had in the past. Which is tasty garbage food. This was offensively garbage food. It just makes me sad when you can no longer even get good crap food and now all of it's just plain crap (at an increased price which is apparently a straight line grid - price up, quality down). Brought my son the day after his birthday. He ordered his kids menu. I ordered a Classic hamburger ($8.99)with fries from a promotion or a discount slip in sheet. I got a cheeseburger without paying any attention and ate it. I got charged $16.99 for a cheeseburger. The server toll me the only difference was a piece of cheese. I said so the cheese cost me $8. My friend chose Denny's because she's on a keto diet and there's plenty of choices. The service is always great at this location. Everyone's so friendly. We both ordered the steak Cobb salad. The salad was full of iceberg lettuce with three slices of avocado, cheddar cheese, an egg, cherry tomatoes, a little bit of bacon (probably one crumbled up), six bite-size pieces of steak and stale potato sticks. We were surprised by the small amount of steak considering the price of the salad $15.49. While paying i asked the server who said the steak is 2.5 ounces. Wow! The menu pic shows a larger amount of steak. Seems misleading. Next time I'll just order the chicken Cobb salad, which has a normal size chicken breast. Shrink economics at its finest. read more

There was nothing amiss @breakfast. I was kindly greeted at the door by Susan, and then seated by Alberto. Alberto brought the coffee, the water and the menu; he took my order as well. Susan took over from there, arriving with my meal in about 5 minutes. One of the reasons I like to eat at this Denny's is because they make such great poached eggs. So poached eggs, whole grain pancakes, bacon and hash browns. The meal was hot and delicious. When Susan decided to take her break, she brought her replacement, Carmen, over the table to introduce us. All together, it was a very nice start to my morning. read more

Food was alright but my brother and I came on a Monday and I had a rewards for a free grand slam and they put a super slam so when I went up to pay the discount wasn't taken off and realized it when my brother said something. Then I spoke to the guy they helped and he talked to his manager Nereida and she was rolling her eyes at me and being so rude and was able to get the discount but after she was like you need to have your app scanned and you didn't even though I did and had it scanned when the guy took my payment. My brother even stepped in and said we did have it scanned so it's your guys fault. I'm never coming back when NEREIDA is working sooooo rude and scolding me she's not my mom!!!! This Dennys was directly across from our Boutique Hotel on El Cajon. In the world of all Dennys, This is like any other. But that is a plus. Because I knew what to expect for Breakfast. But this time we went healthy with egg white omelets with spinach and fruit cups. It was quite good and the reverse of a normal choice. I would do it again and I look forward to another meal if the next is as good as this breakfast was. Endless coffee, we sat in the corner of a diner and watched cars and chatted. Peaceful. Ok. I am not going to be disparaging something that I know what to expect. A big menu of breakfast items all day with choices for dinner or lunch other than pancakes and other breakfast. Simple diner type service. The only thing I have to mention and I should have checked before ordering, is that there is a Senior menu in the back for 55 and older. I am of that age now when Senior discounts or more appropriately, the amount is not what I need but just the right portion. Overall, I would say 3.5 stars because there is parking behind which might not be as easy in the neighborhood. This would be a late night choice close to home but I rarely go out late anymore. But who knows, having a Dennys nearby is always comforting (to go might work too). read more

I came here by myself for a lunch and found the restuarant busy. As a server, I have patience and empathy when it comes to factors like this, so I plan on waiting, the gentleman tells me to wait I wait. Assumingly he gets caught up on what he needs to do, I am waiting 10 minutes (as I planned my day for a quick 30 minute lunch as I am only getting a salad) set a time limit of what I can wait and then right as I was going to leave, they sat me. Right after sitting me, they sat a two top. The man who sat me kept telling me my waiters coming. However, I notice he goes over to the other table and takes their order within seating them within like 5 minutes (mind you I am waiting a total of 10 minutes when I sit down again). I am thinking of regardless where I work, I have pride in my work and my service and just thinking of how double seating usually you (server) takes the first table first, also I am only one person. Fustrating because I am empathetic and then when I go to leave again, they finally come to take my order. I stayed and tipped 20% or 5$ whatevers higher because I'm not a monster but it's fustrating because I might not look it but I'm pregnant and symptoms make eating hard so unfortunately I am at mercy to Dennys but I probably would not come back here unless I can wait all day. No one came and checked on me either, I had to walk out to my car to get a water bottle to fill my glass up so I had water. read more
