When we arrived, the restaurant appeared very busy, but we were pleasantly surprised to be seated right away. Our server, Ivan, greeted us immediately and provided outstanding service despite the crowd. We also noticed another staff member carrying a large tray of dishes, moving quickly in and out of the kitchen. He remained polite and considerate of his coworkers, even while handling what looked like a heavy load. Curious, we asked his name--Anton. His enthusiasm and dedication were clear, and it's easy to see that both he and Ivan have bright futures ahead. Both Ivan and Anton served us with genuine smiles and positive energy, clearly taking pride in their work. We hope the Broken Yolk restaurant recognizes and rewards them for their excellent service. I live down the street from the downtown location BUT will drive to mission valley because that's how good this broken yolk is!! We had the meat lovers omelet & the cinnacakes. EVERYTHING was fireeee & don't get me started on that sourdough bread *chef's kiss* Not only was the food delicious, but it was nice & hot! Food came out fairly quick for how packed it was. Although we we're rarely checked on (never got refills on drinks, etc) our waiter did give us a strawberry banana smoothie (also fire) on the house for my birthday, which I appreciated, especially due to the above. I came here with friends for lunch during comic con weekend. I ordered the soup, salad and sandwich combination, not pictured. I would eat the tuna sandwich for lunch and dinner for a whole week and not tire from it! The matcha pineapple coconut drink was delicious and dairy free. Everybody in our party was happy with their choices (we had a party of nine). Splitting the check for such a large party was very easy. Came here after watching a movie at the theater. It was around 2 o'clock. We were aware that they closed at 3. The waiter took our order promptly and in a timely manner. I order a messy latte and my sister ordered orange juice. The messy latte was good, could taste the espresso in it. My sister order chicken and waffle and I ordered a sample French toast with a side of eggs and bacon. The eggs were okay, they weren't fluffy, it was more hard. The French toast were aesthetic and not to overall sweet. My sister enjoyed the waffle, but the chicken was dry and overcooked. The service was great until I understand that they were trying to close it was close to leaving and all we had to do was pay, but it felt like we were being rushed out by the staff. I got up after our food was packed to use the bathroom. My sister texted me that they wanted her to pay for us to leave, but I was going to use a coupon so we couldn't do that till I got there. First time trying Broken Yolk cafe and it wasn't bad. I don't usually frequent chain restaurants but I saw that they have chilaquilles on the menu so why not! Ordered the chilaquilles with half green, half red sauce with over easy eggs. Both sauces were good (slightly preferred the red but I can see myself getting the green one when I the mood). The eggs came out broken and well done, which is the other extreme of over easy. I got to say eggs are a pretty critical part of chilaquilles but I hate having to send stuff back. The server saw my crestfallen face and asked if the order was right. I mentioned my disappointment with the eggs but that I don't want to have it replaced (I'd hate to see a plate of chilaquilles being tossed!). He brought a side of over easy eggs for me. Wow! What a service. Of course I tipped him well. Honestly I didn't expect such a service from a chain restaurant. This was a great morning, thank you for making my morning such a delight! read more

The service was prompt and helpful, for example, our server remembered I wanted water with no ice during the refills. The strawberry crepes were good. The texture of the crepes were light and nicely complimented with the sweetness of Nutella and fruits. The banana pancakes were average, as the pancakes themselves had a strong flour taste. The scrambled eggs were a little dry and not the best. The second time we sat outside and the service was notably worse. The server didn't come by very frequently and never came by with water refills. One of our entrees were also forgotten and we had to remind our server (it came after everyone else had already finished their food). This visit proved to be absolutely yummy! My server was Kimberly and she was very customer service oriented and she treated me very well. I used the Yelp Live Wait List option and I was seated upon arrival. My server Kimberly and another young man was both asked me if I wanted something to drink. It was wonderful that they were both intent on serving customers with great service. My chicken fried steak and eggs was DELICIOUS and I ordered CinnaCakes as my Free Birthday reward. Back in the late 1990s and early 2000s I used to really love the Broken Yolk at its original Pacific Beach location. I was younger Chun P back then...less money, less experience, less quality foods...so the breakfast omelets and waffles seemed fantastic! Fast forward to 2024...an older, wiser, more moneyed Chun P is now used to higher quality foods...and Broken Yolk just seems kinda average now. The $18 No Name Omelet with Bacon, tomato, mushroom, and avocado used to seem epic...but now seemed just slightly above average. The hashbrowns were soft and mushy, not crispy. The blueberry muffins I do love though! The whole thing for $18, plus $4 for coffee, tax, and tip added up to a $28 unsatisfying brunch. Service was above average, server was nice but low energy. I do like the ambience, it's clean and feels like America. I'll go back if I'm invited, but wouldn't suggest it. read more

Came here to meet my daughter's new college friends and their parents for family weekend and we were a party of 9. We didn't have to wait long to be seated and the service was pleasant. Although prices were fairly reasonable, the one pet peeve was they automatically included 20% tip and an additional 20% service fee so 40% on top of the bill which is outrageous. A long overdue trip to Broken Yolk with a friend for brunch - realized my last visit was before the pandemic, which is unacceptable! I love that they have the live waitlist available on Yelp to show the wait time and that you can add your name before heading over. LIFE-CHANGING and highly recommended - we were seated right away. Service was friendly and quick, and it's just as busy as I remember. I had the mimosa flight, which is a great deal and delicious, and the Border Benedict. The Benny was good but not memorable and next time I think I'll try the Caprese Benedict. All in all this is a great breakfast and brunch spot, though I do prefer the PB location to Mission Valley.
