Our server Nikki was excellent and the food was good but when because my 7yr old granddaughter had been in the hospital for 5 days(and a second surgery today)I asked if I could still use my birthday meal the manager said I was putting him in a "hard spot". Have not ever experienced such intentional neglect/aggressively rude behaviors from a merchant before coming to this restaurant. Amanda was completely appalling in her area of customer service. I was simply picking up an online pick up for delivery. She went on to help everyone else, even said the words, "well they aren't going to tip me they can wait." Then after not talking to myself or the other customer in line for almost 20 min, she comes to say you need to sit down because it makes customers nervous when you stand. Basically forcing me. 1. The service. We always have really solid service. Also, I've seen them really busy and short-staffed and still able to step up and give quality service. That is harder than people realize. 2. The food is solid. I never am like, "WTF is this?!?" I mean, it's Denny's - I'm happy when it's tasty, consistent, and hot. They manage to deliver on all 3. 3. I think management must be doing something to keep things rolling well. Magic unicorns! That's what Denny should be promoting. Twice now I have attempted to obtain this item, as advertised, at two locations in anticipation of trying something delicious. Twice now I've come out of Denny's really disappointed in the results. The first time I ordered it take-out, took it home only to find myself in possession of this dry burnt thing. This time I ordered it and I opened the item right at the order counter, fresh out of the kitchen, and it was once again this woefully disappointing thing...a double stack pancake with a few drops of baked crusty goo dabbled in spots on an otherwise ordinary pancake stack. This time I called the manager, Randy, to the front, showed him the item, then pointed to the big poster right behind me that displays that the delicious looking image of the Dulce de Leche Crunch stack from Denny's and asked him point-blank are you capable of making this item look like the photo that you proudly present and advertise? He said yes. To which I pointed back down at this pathetic looking item that they presented me and asked him a follow-up question, does this look like the delicious pancake stack you're advertising? He sheepishly said no. He meekly offered to cook another stack but as I already I waited 25 minutes for this disappointing thing that they tried to shamelessly serve as the Dulce de Leche Crunch stack from Denny's, I told the manager that I don't have another 25 minutes to wait for yet a third chance for his kitchen staff to try to get this item served right. Have some pride in what you do. The kitchen staff clearly does not know how to make or cares not to take the time to make the item as it's advertised to be. I handed this sad looking pancake stack back to the manager and walked out without my meal. So I ask a question to Denny's, as a franchise, is where's my magic unicorn? Placed an order through Denny's website for pickup. Get to restaurant and told order is not ready, give them 10-15 mins. I got out to the vehicle to wait. come back in 15 mins later. I ask about the status of my order. Told I already picked it up. Manager acted like informing of this closed the order. I had to state my case to get the manager to get my order made. 10 mins later the manager brings my order up to the counter. Get in my vehicle and half my order was missing. Didn't want to deal with this location anymore so I left after wasting an hour to get half my order. On another note, if you like pet hair and pet paws on chairs, benches, and tables this is the place to go. This is the best Denny's in Phoenix - Mesa area. There is usually a wait time -- a short 15 minutes usually -- but it is worth it because the staff are professional, always nice and prompt, and the food is always great. The general manager is really involved in everything going on and checks on his customers and staff, and actively works to make the experience here better. I had an extremely unpleasant experience at this Denny's late this afternoon. It all started when I walked in to pick up an order for my disabled son. The place was empty. The one employee I could see was facing diagonally away from the front counter was busily texting or something on her cell phone. Then she started laughing and talking to the cook. Another customer came in at this point. I started yelling "hello," to get the person's attention, but it took 3 attempts. She sat the other customer and then I asked for my son's order ... with his name. She went back and packaged the order and had me sign the receipt. When my son got the order, he realized it wasn't his order. So, I drove back with the order. When I entered, the hostess or whatever her job title is told me that I made a mistake. She told me I asked for "Jeffrey's" order. I told her, no, I asked for the order with my son's name. At this point, she became indignant and aggressive, to which I responded with equal nastiness, along with a good dose of frustration. My name is Jeffrey, but I never use that version of my name... unless it is in some formal situation that requires a full name. So, this woman had looked at the receipt before I returned and saw "Jeff" which she interpreted to be "Jeffrey" and then thought she could save her butt by lying to me that I had asked for "jeffrey's" order. If this person ... too occupied with her texting to pay attention to customers, then lying to cover her butt and blaming a customer... worked for me, she'd be out looking for work the next day. But, this seems to be quite indicative of many of the people I've had wait on me at Denny's, which I personally never go to anymore. And, then to top it off, she didn't give me the drink my son ordered and paid for. And, I was too upset to go back yet again. read more

One waitress was high on something Meth related (dark haired woman); the waiter that sat me down was rude. When he came over he said there was a 30 min wait to order because they were too busy. My wife and I stopped here after a rough evening visiting our child in a nearby hospital. Rather than enjoying a pleasant, trouble free meal, we were subjected to Sandra who immediately informed us she was in training. Although I was prepared to be patient, I lost my patience after she took my wife's order and then walked away without taking mine. When our food finally did arrive, my sourdough toast was nowhere in sight. Only at the end of my meal did Sandra finally bother to ask if I had toast. When I said yes, she set a plate of cold toast at the edge of the table, nearly out of reach. Not that I ate it since my meal was over. As if this wasn't bad enough, my wife's cinnamon pancakes had bits of jalapeno and onion in them, as though cooked on a dirty grill. My wife is allergic to onions and this caused her tremendous discomfort. On our way out we complained to the manager who, although deducting my wife's pancakes from the ticket, still seemed to not really take us seriously. She brushed off our comments by blaming her kitchen staff, "They don't listen to me," and defending her horrible server, "It's her second day." Last time being a customer for Dennys! I took my two kids here for their birthday. They share the same birthday. Apparently "new policy" you have to create an account in order to receive their rewards including the birthdays. I created an account & was looking for a way to input my kids. The manager explained that wasn't an option & MY KIDS would need their own accounts. That's two EMAILS I would have to create for my 3 year old & 6 year old & than two Dennys accounts for them. Currently in this restaurant waiting for an open table. They say it's a ten minute wait. Just behind me on the side of the restaurant that faces US60 is an entire unused section of empty tables, so why are we waiting? Also, don't know what it is with a Dennys and sewer smells in the entryway but this is the second one I've encountered like this. Its hardly appetizing to wait for a table unnecessarily and in the meantime have our appetites killed by the aroma of human excrement. Will advise later on food quality if and when we're seated.
