I had an extremely unpleasant experience at this Denny's late this afternoon. It all started when I walked in to pick up an order for my disabled son. The place was empty. The one employee I could see was facing diagonally away from the front counter was busily texting or something on her cell phone. Then she started laughing and talking to the cook. Another customer came in at this point. I started yelling "hello," to get the person's attention, but it took 3 attempts. She sat the other customer and then I asked for my son's order ... with his name. She went back and packaged the order and had me sign the receipt. When my son got the order, he realized it wasn't his order. So, I drove back with the order. When I entered, the hostess or whatever her job title is told me that I made a mistake. She told me I asked for "Jeffrey's" order. I told her, no, I asked for the order with my son's name. At this point, she became indignant and aggressive, to which I responded with equal nastiness, along with a good dose of frustration. My name is Jeffrey, but I never use that version of my name... unless it is in some formal situation that requires a full name. So, this woman had looked at the receipt before I returned and saw "Jeff" which she interpreted to be "Jeffrey" and then thought she could save her butt by lying to me that I had asked for "jeffrey's" order. If this person ... too occupied with her texting to pay attention to customers, then lying to cover her butt and blaming a customer... worked for me, she'd be out looking for work the next day. But, this seems to be quite indicative of many of the people I've had wait on me at Denny's, which I personally never go to anymore. And, then to top it off, she didn't give me the drink my son ordered and paid for. And, I was too upset to go back yet again. read more

This is the best Denny's in Phoenix - Mesa area. There is usually a wait time -- a short 15 minutes usually -- but it is worth it because the staff are professional, always nice and prompt, and the food is always great. The general manager is really involved in everything going on and checks on his customers and staff, and actively works to make the experience here better. One waitress was high on something Meth related (dark haired woman); the waiter that sat me down was rude. When he came over he said there was a 30 min wait to order because they were too busy. My wife and I stopped here after a rough evening visiting our child in a nearby hospital. Rather than enjoying a pleasant, trouble free meal, we were subjected to Sandra who immediately informed us she was in training. Although I was prepared to be patient, I lost my patience after she took my wife's order and then walked away without taking mine. When our food finally did arrive, my sourdough toast was nowhere in sight. Only at the end of my meal did Sandra finally bother to ask if I had toast. When I said yes, she set a plate of cold toast at the edge of the table, nearly out of reach. Not that I ate it since my meal was over. As if this wasn't bad enough, my wife's cinnamon pancakes had bits of jalapeno and onion in them, as though cooked on a dirty grill. My wife is allergic to onions and this caused her tremendous discomfort. On our way out we complained to the manager who, although deducting my wife's pancakes from the ticket, still seemed to not really take us seriously. She brushed off our comments by blaming her kitchen staff, "They don't listen to me," and defending her horrible server, "It's her second day." Nevermind that Sandra had been telling everyone she's been waitressing for thirty-eight years. Last time being a customer for Dennys! I took my two kids here for their birthday. They share the same birthday. Apparently "new policy" you have to create an account in order to receive their rewards including the birthdays. I created an account & was looking for a way to input my kids. The manager explained that wasn't an option & MY KIDS would need their own accounts. That's two EMAILS I would have to create for my 3 year old & 6 year old & than two Dennys accounts for them. Currently in this restaurant waiting for an open table. They say it's a ten minute wait. Just behind me on the side of the restaurant that faces US60 is an entire unused section of empty tables, so why are we waiting? Also, don't know what it is with a Dennys and sewer smells in the entryway but this is the second one I've encountered like this. Its hardly appetizing to wait for a table unnecessarily and in the meantime have our appetites killed by the aroma of human excrement. Will advise later on food quality if and when we're seated. We are regulars here about 3 to 4 times x a week and we are always greeted with open arms. Tonight we had Kat R. She was so so wonderful she has topped off our dribks often asked how we were doing or food came out hot and fast and like always my favorite the cinnnamon pancakes and my coffee i love withb a side of whip cream which she knew i love that . Horrible experience!!! 1) I wanted to call in an order, but couldn't get a response from ANYONE calling several times and no response so that didn't happen. 2) I had 2 separate "to go" orders. First issue was with the sampler plate, strawberry smoothy, cheesecake order. I went a couple miles back home and opened my food and... there wasn't any cheesecake!!! So I don't even know it's any good. My sampler plate was of poor quality. The mozzarella cheese sticks were not hot enough and at least 3 of them were hollowed out and the cheese didn't even melt. I didn't like the spicy chicken (2 strips) which wasn't really what I wanted. I wanted fried zucchini. The onion rings were many, but I didn't care for them. 3) I wanted to get an adjustment without having to go right back there. I tried the dennyslistens.com and to my dismay I came to my next issue... 4) I needed to locate some numbers and I realized that the ink in that printer is almost gone... It was IMPOSSIBLE because I couldn't read enough of the numbers because they were missing or unrecognizable which brings me to my next issue... 5) how do you contact Denny's customer service? 6) 1t's the reason you are reading this right now... So we'll see what happens next.. BTW everything was remarkably quick, though, but they FAILED because there were omissions... Miriam is the name on the receipt. I've ate here several times before and I've always had some kind of unpleasant experience. I usually just zip my mouth and bite my lip and let it go. Honestly I really take customer service serious and there's servers and employees that really dont give a crap about treating customers right and equally probably because they are just some miserable foolish people. Anyway I'm not trying to write a review about their misery back to the point. Me personally I take customer service serious I look forward to giving $20 tips to workers and at times I have given a server a set of basketball tickets because they went above and beyond providing great customer service. I find happiness and pleasure in doing this because I'm financially blessed and feel that the worker should be rewarded. But today's extremely poor customer service experience forced me to decide that our server Roman did not deserve not 1 penny as a tip because of the following reasons. I requested water for my 1 year old because she was eating pancakes and eggs he simply ignored our request went to the next table to serve a bunch of loud obnoxious drunk people brought them water and drinks. At 1 point my baby started coughing and almost choking because of no water. I frequent Denny's on the weekends. I love to take the time to sit down and enjoy a nice, big breakfast. I was walked to my booth and seated. Ah, coffee! I ordered the Lumberjack Big Breakfast. Eggs, hash browns, ham, sausage, bacon, toast and pancakes. I always trade my bacon and sausage links for what Denny's calls a "hearty" sausage. It's a big sausage link, like you would see in the grocery store. I highly recommend it. I also always order grits, and a couple extra pancakes. Everything was perfect. I ordered the hash browns scattered so they brown better. Check! Sunny side up, eggs, check! Everything was just as I ordered. The pancakes were steaming hot, causing the butter to float around the top of the pancakes on its carpet of melted cream.! I am a big grits man, and they delivered, big time.
