My husband & I decided to have new sod installed in our front yard at the end of May. We contacted Denton Lawn & Sprinkler because they had done the sod on our neighbors yard the previous year & we & our neighbor had shopped around & it was a very fair bid. I left a message & received a call back within an hour by Josh Durettte. I spoke to Josh & he came out the same day & gave us an estimate. I was impressed by responsiveness & customer service but that all began to quickly fade. The next day I received the estimate & immediately confirmed a date with Josh after my husband & I had reviewed the bid. Josh said that they would be there to install the sod next Tuesday. I made arrangements to work from home so that I could be there on Tuesday. Around 8:30 am the Denton Lawn & Sprinkler truck pulled up as scheduled. A could of men got out & they asked ME so are we here to do the front yard or the back yard? The front yard I responded. Then they asked ME where the sod was. I don't know I replied. The amount I paid certainly covered the sod! I was really disappointed with the lack of communication between the company & the people sent out to do the job. They said we don't know where the sod is. They told me to call Josh & ask him. I called him & at that time he told me that they weren't able to get the sod today & that it will be here tomorrow. Both their own workers as well as I were surprised. He told me they would prep the dirt today & that the sod will be here tomorrow. I was frustrated. I didn't move my schedule & meetings around to watch people move dirt around & would not be able to adjust my schedule again. I would have to pray all went well. All day my husband & I were so looking forward to our new sod! It was a big investment for our first home & was going to make such an impact on our curb appeal. The entire day passed. Not a single missed call or text from Josh. We were soooooo excited to arrive home & when I rounded the corner what did I find but absolutely NOTHING!!! AGAIN!!! We were two full days in & still no sod. Can you imagine if I had adjusted my schedule AGAIN?? I was furious & starting to get nervous that I was being taken for a ride. First I called Josh & left a voicemail. I waited 39 minutes & then text him. I was furious at the lack of communication & respect for my time. I waited another 30 minutes & then sent Josh an e-mail & then last after over 2 hours called the office & Josh's boss was there & picked up after he heard me leaving a voicemail. I wish I remembered his name. He was so kind & compassionate & just plain got it. Communication!! All Josh had to do was communicate & he just wasn't doing it at all! Apparently this is an "issue" Josh has. His boss openly told me that when things are going well he is great with the customers but when they are not like in our case when he couldn't get the sod he doesn't do anything at all!!! His boss assured me the sod would be there Thursday & it was. I did have to contact Josh again as to how they had not cut the lawn around our round paver stones & how they didn't bother to cut a straight line on the property edge. He didn't think it was a big deal! Really? We are paying you several thousand dollars. My husband agreed & finally the following Monday they came out & fixed that. See attached photos & you decide. My advice if you decide to move forward with this company is don't work with this company! Update after owners response: THE OWNERS RESPONSE JUST SHOWS JUST HOW MUCH THEY JUST DON'T GET IT! HIS ENTIEE RESPONSE IS ABOUT EXCUSES INCLUDING WHY THINGS DID NOT HAPPEN WHEN CONFIRMED & HE SEEMS OBLIVIOUS TO THE FACT THAT NONE OF THIS WOULD HAVE HAPPENED IF ONLY THEY HAD COMMUNICATED!! WE ARE REASONABLE PEOPLE & GET IT! COME ON YOU CAME UP WITH THE INSTALLATION-DATE. MAYBE YOU SHOLD CHECK IF YOU WILL ACTUALLY HAVE THE SOD BEFORE SCHEDULING A DATE?? JUST A THOUGHT. Technicians try to pad their hours by working very slow. Don't use this company. Sergio is incompetent. Oscar is slow as a turtle. Raoul is the supervisor that doesn't show up for a requested customer meeting to discuss the employee's misdiagnosis. Stay away from this company... horrible. Zero Stars if that was available. Also, technicians pushed for more work. 3 of them tried to push for a shut-off valve to install. Beware of the upsell. I will take my 4 properties to an independent sprinkler guy. Raoul and his team did a fantastic job on front sprinkler beds!! Requested soaker hoses removed and replaced with sprinkler pop ups. We called this company to come out and fix a couple of sprinkler heads we saw were gushing water out into the street. The receptionist was good about taking down the details of what we wanted done, which should have been pretty straight forward. 2 sprinkler heads and reprogram the system to water the lawn. The simplicity of the experience ended after this. The technician upon inspecting my system concluded that not one or two, but all 40 of my sprinkler heads needed to be replaced, and that we would need to spend more than $1,000 to complete the work. I asked for further detail, and the technician further elaborated that even though 35 of the 40 sprinkler heads were spraying, all 40 still needed to be replaced. You can imagine my frustration. Why do we need an overhaul if most of the parts are in working order?? At this point I told the technician I thought he was trying to fleece us and to fix only the worst sprinkler heads so long as the cost didn't exceed $300, and that we would never use their company again. Moral of the story: I can't trust a company that sends out technicians that try to pull this kind of scam and turn a simple minor repair request into a major overhaul. Our landlord (who also happens to be family), hired Denton Lawn Sprinkler to put in new sod and sprinklers last year. The sod looked fine, but we soon noticed that they did not place the sprinkler heads very well, so parts of our sod never really took root. Furthermore, these people are near impossible to contact, and they have some serious communication issues. They kept mowing our lawn when they were NOT supposed to, and NOT coming to take care of our weeds when they WERE supposed to. The one time they did come to take care of weeds, all they did was mow over them. Well we could have done that! It is hard to know if we even got all the services we paid for. All in all, our experience with them has been bad. Our neighbor uses them, however, and her yard looks great. So I don't know what you have to do get quality service from them, but it's probably not worth the constant phone calls you'd have to make. We are switching! read more

Today Denton Lawn Sprinkler came to make a repair on our 28 year old sprinkler system. Sprinkler repairs seem very expensive and I carefully watched their work. I appreciated their professional manner and efficiency. Paolino and Alberto arrived today and were so fast and efficient locating the problem and making the necessary repairs. Fees, fees, fees. They charge hourly and evaluation fees ON TOP OF any work you agree to. Spring "tune up" of my system was $900 plus they severed a Verizon fiber line in my front yard and left half of a zone not working at all. The owner, John, will not respond to messages and e-mails. His staff says he will"decide" how to handle my problems based on my e-mail. I could have done this work myself. I paid for professional services to avoid the hassle. The professional part of professional services is lacking here and the hassle is unacceptable. Update: Finally got a response from John with a commitment to pay the Verizon bill and repair the area not working, but suggesting that the "repair" of the problem they left behind may be billable depending on what they find. I'm dubious. Final update: got payment for the damage and they came out and repaired the faulty zone. It was a wire they did not reconnect in the control box. After they fixed it, the tech told me it would be $95 for the call. NOT! read more

I can't say enough good things about Denton Lawn Sprinkler. They just finished a transformation of my backyard that included bringing in dirt, regrading the entire yard (100% by hand), creating a new flower bed, installing sprinklers, and then placing new sod. The crew was pleasant and professional. Raul Navarrete is the Irrigation Operations Manager and he did the estimate, the design and oversaw the work, all in a very timely manner. Was told they would spend an hour at $115 to determine the cost. Was not able to determine the exact problem and I knew it would go over the $115 but the charge was $400 and not complete with an estimated hour and a half to finish. Somewhat complicated but that was a shock. Crew was very polite and efficient in their work flow. Receptionist is a little rude and inconsiderate. I'd replace the receptionist if I were the owner, maybe put her in a different position until she matured a little. The field guys were very, very good at their work but somewhat unpredictable when it comes to the pricing. My only experience in the past has been with the same company and my experience before was much better. I still plan to use these guys in the future but a little disappointed especially with the receptionist.... really. read more

Charges monthly for full service even though they know they are only visiting once a month in dormant season, if even. Requests for change in service followed, yet still charged for same service. Request call prior to service so that we can leave the dog inside, have received 1 call in 7 months. Will not renew contract next year. read more

The company replaced my old, balding lawn with new sod, installed a new in-ground sprinkler system, and added beds of rocks to permanently-shaded areas. The work was done quickly and professionally. Just signed a contract with these guys for lawn mowings and fertilizing treatments for the next year. We got a great price and we are able to make monthly payments. We have had them mow our yards for several years now but just now letting them treat the lawns as we had Tru Green in the past and always seemed to have problems with them. But any time we had a complaint with any of the mowings my husband would call their office and they have always been cordial and sent someone out in the next day or two to fix what we wanted. read more

Had them out to look at a couple of heads not working. They canceled the first appointment and rescheduled for the Friday before memorial day. Came at 4:10, the tech was by himself. He did a system check and found two heads not working. He dug and found a leak. Said he needed to dig further. I asked him specifically NOT to dig up a stone, mortar wall near the dig site. He not only dug up the wall, but destroyed it. He fixed the leak, which did not supply water to the two heads not working but found another leak. He said it was getting late and would have to leave. Not sure when he could come back. He presented a bill for $245 which I paid. Over the weekend, I repaired the other leak myself, found the problem with the two heads, repaired that, called the following Tuesday to tell them they were no longer needed and asked them to please repair the damage to the wall they dug up. They ask me to send pictures, which I did. I never heard anything back from them at all. I called to ask them if they received my pictures and what their policy was regarding how they leave the property. They said they leave the property exactly the way they find it. They said they were waiting to talk to the tech but would call me back. Three weeks later and no response. I emailed them several times and they never responded. All they did was damage my property, repair one leak and charge me $245. I can't recommend this company. An epic fail all the way around. read more

Once again I do not get my scheduled lawn care. Since they have taken over my yard I no longer have grass but weeds. I called today and of course they are closed in observance of Good Friday and my yard has not been cut in 3 weeks even though it is scheduled for every other week. If they don't show up today I WILL NOT be continuing with them and will be kicking them to my weed infested curb. I've tried to get the owner of this company out here many times and he has never shown up so I'm pretty much done with them. Denton Lawn and Sprinkler socked us with a $475 bill for a system check up and replacing some sprinkler heads. I am not sure if this is because this particular crew took us for a ride or it is the general practice of this business. We still have not received an itemized bill. Unfortunately, I was out at an appointment and my wife wrote the check for $475. I was floored when I got home and my wife told me about it. They also wanted $200 to order a replacement valve which they dropped to $100 when my wife protested. Does it take three hours to run the system and check it for faulty/leaking sprinkler heads? This is outrageous. They were also supposed to come and show us how to set the sprinkler but never did show as promised yesterday evening, June 18, the day of the service. We will not use Denton Lawn and Sprinkler again for our Sprinkler system needs and surely we will relay to our friends how we were charged what appears to be twice what one would expect for a normal sprinkler system tune up and repair. Our system was functioning and was not a basket case to spend $475 to fix. This has been a very unpleasant experience for us. read more

never ever use ds. the worst client care i have ever experienced in a commodity- based service. lack of interest by their " leadership". retrospectively, i am embarrassed i ever engaged them. the office manager could have cared less and sought no innovate means to solve our concerns. i used ds to install a booster pump, at their recommendation. i used it for 3 months before fall- at most. cost $1,500. actual cost for same unit: $500.00. ripped off beyond belief. flooding endued and therefore no need to water. failed before i used it i. 2015: in late june 2015/failed in july 2015. in texas dfw region, no one need to water due to epic rain. my road was closed to flooding past july 4. after starting my irrigation system denyon sprinkler product failed. call 1. little interest. call 2 denton sprinkler failed to show. the weather was their excuse. earlier in the day, we had thunderstorms, but cleared well before their " appointment time "range". be advised - it is a very broad range. call 3 -the manager, stephanie, was "out". she never bothered to respect our request for a callback. call 4: denton sprinkle informed us " you one year warranty and it expired. for "another $1,600, we could replace the pump" . how many in of the communities in the dfw region needed to even turn on their irrigation ina pril, may or june ? minimal at best. denton sprinkler could care less about a long term relationship with their clients. no interest in seeking a logical solution. i was ready to award a $20,000 contract. this experience has been so bad, the owner should be embarrassed with how he and his employees handled this situation. the expense of my water bill is a direct result of poor product and poor service by denton sprinkler. finally, when a "denton sprinkler team" did arrive, 5 days later, besides a strong difficulty to communicate, they completely dismissed the reason they were called to our residence. worse, the " office manager" , whom we calle d to express our extreme frustration of the lack of professionalism and complete faiure for the issue to be addressed,. worse, she blamed the crew telling us the work order was explicit to address the failed pump. denton sprinkler dispatched a crew who admitted they had no knowledge of this very simple pump.. adding further evidence to denton sprinkler lack of interest in customer care and sole interest in gouging money, the crew told us they had no idea as to how to address our real issune, told us we had to call the denton sprinkler office and request/ schedule yet another technician who knew the pump. all this time my water is leaking, i have to shut my water off, all because ds failure. my water bill has grown due to ds failures. their solution: pay ds $1,600 and ds would happily replace their failed pump. clearly, they use subcontractors for service, take no interest in service, or customer relation. it is sad i have to waste my time in such a detailed report but if it helps anyone contemplating using this firm and steers them away, then my effort has in reporting has been worth it. if ds actually reads this and follows up with me, i'll report the. outcome. i cannot even approve a1star... read more

Started out good but they ruined my yard! I've used Denton Lawn and Sprinkler for 4-5 years for cutting my grass and even to install my sprinkler system. About 1 to 1 1/2 years ago they offered fertilizer service so I switched from True Green to them because I trusted them and it would be more convenient. Within a year my back yard was dead and gone, just weeds and dirt and my front yard was very thin so I called them and Josh came out to look. First Josh said that the sprinkler system wasn't covering the yard properly, I told him that they installed the sprinkler years ago and haven't had any problems until now then he changed his story and said it's was probably rabbits and moles. Then said they could put posin out for $40.00 and I needed to get rid of the rabbits. Well BS. I called another yard company to take a look and they said the yard was burned. So after calling Denton Lawn back and trying to get the owner with no luck I was finally able to get a email to send before and after pics of my yard and finally after several weeks of emailing the owner John Crew came to look and said yes they over fertilized which killed my grass.. we both agreed he would replace my backyard grass free of charge unless I wanted to upgrade the grass which I would pay the difference.. great news except that was on March 30th and still no grass. May 17th John Crew said He would get with Josh and set it up and order the grass. Well still no grass. I just want my yard back to the way it was before. John C. read more

You cannot find a better Lawn and Sprinkler company that also does fabulous retaining walls, drain systems, and yard work. We have had them do numerous jobs over the years and they are 100% quality folks. Years ago we had serious side yard drainage issues that they totally solved. Recently they have replaced two retaining walls and steps done with landscaping ties. They arrive on time, do a high quality job, clean up well, and are fair in their pricing. They aim to please.
