Had a great experience at DePoe Eye Center. This was my first time receiving an examination & I appreciated the quality of service I received. This location is in the Student Center at Georgia Tech. There is a parking lot & a deck at the student center that you can pay for hourly. Dr. Schizas conducted my examination. The machines they use to examine your eyes are high quality & up to date. Dr. Schizas was not only efficient with my service, but she took the time to have a through conversation about the quality of my eyes. She was very informative/educational during the conversation. Dr. Brenda Schizas and the front staff were amazing at the Georgia Tech location! They were able to fit me in at the last minute for an eye exam before my contact prescription was expiring. They also gave me enough contacts to last before my new shipment arrived. I was in and out of the office in under 30 minutes. Definitely recommend and will be going back. read more

They charged me an extra $40 for "special imaging" that is not covered by insurance and didn't tell me until days later, when they called to tell me that they didn't charge me enough for the visit. When I complained about this they told me it was mandatory and that it was mentioned on their intake forms, but said that form was missing from my file. If I had been informed prior to the appointment I would've cancelled and gone elsewhere. The doctor even asked me if I wanted to do the dilation exam anyways. The point of the Optos thing is to NOT do the dilation, so why ask? Why not give people the option to do one or the other, especially since my insurance would have covered dilation? The fact that this is mandatory but not mentioned on their website or disclosed when you make the appointment makes it seem like a shameless money grab. They also only offer designer brands for glasses, so it's impossible to get anything that will be completely covered by insurance (and that's with good insurance!) My insurance covers $130 for glasses and has a $10 copay. With just the most basic frames ($180 is the cheapest they offer) and lenses (no special treatments) the total for the visit would be an additional ~$140. Every other time I've been to the optometrist I've had everything covered by insurance, so this seems outrageous to me. read more

I've been here twice for a regular eye exam and I like it -- convenient as a Georgia Tech student because it's on campus in the student center. OPTOMETRIST: Dr. Karla Hafford is the optometrist I've always seen, and I really really like her. She's very professional, but also kind and sincere. Small talk with her is very enjoyable because she's a good conversationalist and it's doesn't feel awkward. She's also very knowledgable and approachable. NOTE: They do charge a $60 contact lenses fitting fee, where they give you a pair of contact lenses and make you come back in a week to make sure they're right for you. I've never experienced this before DePoe and I think most insurance companies don't cover it, but it seems to be a thing here. Just be warned -- it is also mentioned in the paperwork and it is mandatory to get your contact lenses prescription. TIP: Like most places, they sell contact lenses and glasses, but prices online are much cheaper. read more

They have a policy where they won't give you a copy of your prescription after one year even though you can still buy eyeglasses in GA for two years after having a prescription written. They won't even give you a copy which has their expiration date on it. You have to request your medical records from them to get it because it is illegal for them not to give you that. Definitely wouldn't go there. Save yourself some money and go to Wal-Mart, Cost Co, or any place which isn't so desperate for business they act unethically and make you pay twice for something you have already bought. read more

My eyecare health plan changed from VSP to something else, so I had to find a new eyecare center that was in-network for the new plan. I had a pleasant enough experience at DePoe Eye Center at Georgia Tech -- there were no major disappointments. They have a decent selection of frames for the size of the store, and someone is always available and willing to help you. The eye doctor who performed my exam was professional and very straight-forward. She did a good job of explaining why I needed a different prescription and why she thought my original prescription was incorrect. Ezekiel helped me select my frames. He was incredibly patient and helpful. He explained my charges and benefits so I would know what to expect. He was the most memorable thing about my visit. My eyeglasses were ready for pick-up about a 5 days later. I had no problems when I picked them up. I selected this location because it's pretty close to my house. I will most likely return unless I find a better spot that even closer. read more

I CAN PRACTICALLY SEE YOUR THOUGHTS NOW. I came in with eye strain and headaches as a last after optometrists told me for YEARS that my eyes didn't need correction. The eye doctor, who is actually a SURGEON, did a thorough exam on me and told me my left eye is actually a +4! No wonder I was having headaches. She explained my issues to me clearly, and laid out a plan to bump my eyes up to the strong prescription gradually for comfort. The result: I can see more clearly than ever in my life! I didn't even realize how bad it was! As a bonus, the staff is warm and friendly, scheduling is flexible, and prices are very reasonable. I'm recommending this place to all my family and friends. Friendly and knowledgeable doctor and staff, and the location is perfect for students.

I went there to get prescriptions for my lenses. First the doctor insisted in making me try lenses that I'm not used to it. After that, I had to redo the exam multiple times because the doctor would always be in a hurry when receiving me. Next, I asked for the type of lenses I usually have. And guess what, they ordered the wrong ones. After a month half blind, I went back and asked the right ones, but for whatever reason they lost my prescription and I had to redo the exam. Now, I asked for my prescription 45 days ago and still haven't received it. I'm still asking by e-mail for it every other week. Never regret choosing a doctor so much. read more

When I first walked in, I met the doctor and I thought, man, this guy is really skinny. What a high voice too...weird. Well, after a 30 minute check up I finally realized my doctor was indeed a woman. So, to say she did a great job correcting my vision would be an understatement. Everyone at DePoe has been super accommodating with my challenging schedule. I came in to get glasses one week before I was moving out of state, they rushed my frames, and got everything done really quickly. The doctor has been very helpful, answering calls quickly, even after normal business hours sometimes. They also price match on frames, which saved me about $50 on my frames. read more

Don't waste your time here. I didn't think that I need to read Yelp before going to make my glasses here. How bad can it be? No help on choosing a frame. Grumpy staff (maybe it's not his day, but that's what I got). No help on finding out how thick will the lenses be (the only glasses shop that I EVER found that cannot do this). I have been to several eye doctors but NEVER and I do mean NEVER has a doctor been so thorough and knowledgeable. She took the time to explain everything that was being done and why it was being done. I walked out of the office with a much better understanding. Zeke was also very helpful in helping me pick out my glasses. Noone was rushing me or talking fast like a salesperson. Everyone gave me their 100% undivided attention. I have to admit I waited a really long time to make an appointment because I was upset that the previous optometrist was no longer there and I thought that I would prefer them over DePoe. I was in town on business and unfortunately had a severe allergic reaction when I put in one of my contacts. I tried to get in at a number of places with no luck. I took a chance that I could see Dr. DePoe without knowing if she only saw Tech students and faculty. I showed up with no appointment in a lot of pain. They squeezed me in right away and helped manage the reaction. She was kind, caring, and helped me out of a tight spot. Very grateful for the service and the professionalism! read more

This has been the worst customer service I have ever received at an eye doctor. I went two months ago for an eye exam and have since been trying to get my prescription from them. The day of my appointment, I was a little late due to getting lost on the Georgia Tech campus. I called the location asking for directions and no one was able to help me. When I finally arrived, they seemed nice about it but then as more patients starting coming in, they began so say slick comments. When the doctor was done my exam, she said something along the lines of 'next time you won't get lost right'. As I was sitting with the insurance guy named William, he tried to pressure me into ordering my contacts and glasses from them but from experience I know that you don't have to order from the same place you get an exam. He made me feel very uncomfortable especially after I paid for the exam and then went back to ask for my prescription. I thought it was weird that they didn't give it to me since I usually walk out with it every other eye doctor I went to. Upon walking back in. William says 'what did you get lost again?' I responded by saying no, I would like my prescription and this is where he said they can't release it until my contacts are finalized. Confused and frustrated, I left again and called back a week later to let the doctor know I was comfortable with the contact prescription she gave me. I spoke with Tiffany who works at the front desk and she said she would inform the doctor and have my prescription faxed over to me. The doctor never said I had to come back in if I was okay with my contacts and could call instead. Needless to say, after several phone calls and promises that they would fax my prescription, I still don't have it. I called again today and Tiffany said she would email it to me, that was over 2 hours ago and still nothing. I had to call their Stockbridge location and they are in the process of sending it over to me. If you are looking for an eye doctor, don't go here. You are better off going to the eye center at Walmart or Pearle Vision. read more

After having a horrible experience at the previous eye center at this location, I was a little skeptical taking the plunge. However, I can say that I've had a wonderful experience with this DePoe location. Dr. Kitzerow and her staff were very kind and treated me with the utmost respect. Each step of my examination was explained to me along the way as well as my options. I was so satisfied that I ordered both contacts and glasses. I realize that I could potentially save a little money buy ordering these things myself (especially contacts), but the experience was well worth it. read more
