It was a lazy Saturday morning and I was in the mood to go out for brunch with my kids. Of the…read moreoptions nearby that I either hadn't been to before or hadn't been to in a long time, Sawmill Inn was the most appealing given its proximity to Germantown. I got the Head Sawyer (steak, eggs, and hash browns) with the double tenderloin option, one kid got chicken strips with fries, and the other got a kids pizza. We also shared a piece of coffee cake. I don't think my youngest was super enthused by his pizza, mostly because it's not memorable to him. My oldest liked his chicken strips and fries, but I don't know if he's come across chicken strips and fries that he doesn't like, so take that with a grain of salt. The hash browns were ok. They were just fried potato with no other flavor or add-in like onions. I added salt and pepper because they needed it. I got American cheese on the scrambled eggs and they were as you'd expect. The tenderloin was fine. Obviously not as good of a cut as New York strip or ribeye would have been. I ended up sharing a portion of it with my oldest and he ate it without complaints too. The star of our visit was the coffee cake. It was warm and soft and in every sense perfect. Sharing is carrying and I'm fine sharing with my kids most of the time, but man, I wish it had been all for me.

It was so good! The omelet didn't have as many toppings as I've usually gotten in omelets but it was really good. The atmosphere is very cute and cozy, like an inn almost. I would picture this in a hallmark movie!

#100/2022 Another Kwik Trip one I frequent because and I…read moreload heavy for East Tennessee or North Carolina out of horicon Wisconsin they do have a cat scale. This is one of the old truck stop that got torn down a few years back and was put in with the KT. The problem I find with this one is there's many other Kwik Trip travel centers now all over the place they are coming on strong and opening up many more which is really nice travel centers with laundry showers and more. This store tends to stay a little bit more dirty compared to other KwikTrips I'm afraid. A lot of times you come in the bathroom is a little unkempt and you have to flip the light letting them know time to attend to it. Some of the employees are not the most friendly they have a little attitude every now and then depending on who's working I have run into it with a manager assistant who works towards the evening shift, and their kitchen staff. Sometimes I ask for some fresh brewed coffee and they're like used to being the cut machine it's like you have the bag still I want a regular brewed one you're supposed to do it and you can see they're a little pissy because they start slamming stuff down like you're bothering them or something. And the kitchen staff sometimes tends to get really backed up and if you want something cook fresh which is something KT still does a lot but the problem is here they say it'll be quite an extended. Of time like if you want a grilled cheese or a slice of pizza especially made they'll make up some kind of excuse. But like I said the good news is if I just want to scale out grab a drink I can go down the road and there's probably between the Illinois state line and here north of Milwaukee five or six more now full travel centers. So maybe they'll get better on the ball and get on par with the other ones but like I said for me I do have to scale these heavy loads and this is the closest place to do it where I load at.

This is a brand-spanking new Kwik Trip as the company continues its relentless expansion program…read more (It opened just after Thanksgiving 2019.) It's conveniently located just off I-41 on Wisconsin 167 (Holy Hill Road) and just across the railroad tracks from one of my favorite restaurants. (See "Sawmill Inn" for more about that.) This is a nearly complete auto and truck plaza, there's no car wash but that's about all that's missing. It's a complete convenience store with sandwiches, coffee and soft drinks (after the Covid19 lockdown, anyway)and almost anything you could need in the coolers, freezers and food gondolas. Like all Kwik Trips, the bakery all comes from La Crosse and it's pretty good. If you happen to drive an 18-wheeler, there is a huge fueling station and certified scale. It's easy in and easy out with no silly roundabouts to come through, unless you're coming from the west. You'll find Diesel #2, Premium Diesel, and Diesel Exhaust Fluid. On a local note, this facility replaced an old "local choke and puke" truck stop that was under the sign of Skelly Oil Company. When Skelly stopped being a brand, it was rebadged as Mobil but the locals continued to call the place "Skelly's" right up until the day it was torn down to build this modern facility. It wouldn't surprise me if some of the locals call this new place Skelly's as old habits die hard. It's everything you've come to expect in a Kwik Trip and a whole lot more.

After three years, it's probably time to update my review. Things have changed at PnS, most notably…read morebecause Kroger has acquired Roundy's. Our familiar old Pick 'n' Save is still called Pick 'n' Save, but it's pretty obvious something is different. On entering, the first thing you'll notice is the genuine simulated hardwood floor in the produce department. Produce also has new fixtures and a new layout. And the key word is "layout". The entire store has a new layout, so when you go to the old familiar places expecting the old familiar faces - they ain't there. Everything has been rearranged. At first, that's really annoying but I imagine we'll all get used to it soon enough. Kroger has kept the familar old Roundy's name on several products but you'll find Kroger private label products, too. In addition, Kroger has brought in new brands that you've heard of but maybe never seen before. I'm currently giving Pick 'n' Save an upgrade to three stars for new layout and new products. I'm holding off on the fourth star to watch and see what else changes for the better, for the worse, or doesn't change at all. Welcome back to Wisconsin, Kroger.

Food: We got the Bacon Cheeseburger, Junior Cheeseburger, and a side combo of fries and onion rings. They make the burgers to order, so they took a while, but they were fresh and hot when they arrived. The patty was cooked to about medium, which was okay, but for a smashburger, it would have been better to leave it on the grill a bit longer to develop those nice crispy, lacy edges. The additional lettuce, tomato, and onion were generously portioned and fresh. Service: The staff was super friendly. The person who took our order was cheerful, helpful, and professional. Atmosphere: When first driving into the lot, what you notice is a very uncared-for, weedy front patio area. It's not very inviting, and nobody was sitting there. The parking lot pavement could use some refreshing as well. Overall, the exterior is a bit depressing. Inside, however, the restaurant is well lit, clean, and has a friendly atmosphere. You could tell there were lots of regulars catching up with friends and having pleasant conversations. Glad we stopped in.

I'd go inside but when I do they always forget part of my order and it doesn't move much faster. The food isn't good so it's not worth the wait but my mom wants their custard flavor of the day, so I wait. The people are friendly enough but there's no reason to wait in line even on a Friday for 15-20min for custard. That's outrageous. And quite honestly you get more for your money at Kraver's or Culver's.
