What a wonderful spot to retreat to. Had a day off and knew I needed to recharge. Didn't have time to head to the Korean spas that I usually frequent in KoreaTown, so this was the next best bet! This spa is everything that you would regularly expect from a Korean spa, and had all the amenities that are typical, without anything extra. A hot spa, a cool water area, saunas (wet and dry) and places to shower and rinse. Locker room was basic but I don't need any extra frills so we were all good there. I was grateful for the food service they had upstairs - a bit pricey but no problem trying especially if it's your first time. Lots of rooms with various temperatures to help you relax, detox, get energized, and feel refreshed upon leaving. You can easily spend a whole day here - it's that relaxing. Next time, I'll bring a book! And maybe take advantage of a body scrub and massage.

The food this visit is even more amazing haha as it eat through the menu, this got to be my favorite so far .

First - NO PHOTOS! So mine were taken veeeerrrry discreetly when NO ONE was around. I have NEVER tried to get spa photos, but I walked in with so many unanswered, BASIC, questions after reviewing Yelp and their website that I wanted to post a clearer picture of what this beautiful, quiet, calming facility is like. So, all that being said.... Came on a day when I knew the cafe was going to be open. It's located on the 2nd floor, is CLOSED every 2nd and 4th Thursday of the month, accepts cards and cash and is considered a separate business, so bring your payment with you when you go. On this, in need of an exfoliation, Thursday I wanted to see how busy Descanso Garden Spa(DGS) can get. So I headed to Tujunga, at the base of the lovely San Gabriel foothills for a little serenity, some water therapy, a good scrub and some detoxifying seaweed soup. Ya know, research. You're welcome! SO, entrance fee is waived for services over $100. That's on the website, but no mention of what the actual entrance fee IS. I just wanted a body scrub which is currently $50. Here's the info I didn't know until I walked in: If one wants to use the locker room and wet room features(showers, dry sauna, steam sauna, hot whirlpool spa and cold plunge pool) the fee is $28. If one would like to use BOTH the locker room/wet room features PLUS the upstairs "theme rooms"(yellow soil/infrared rays & charcoal room, salt room, cedar oxygen room or germanium rooms) as well as tranquility(sleeping) rooms, relaxation lounge and ice cold room, then the fee is $33. So I opted for my body scrub($50) and ALL the amenities ($33). I was given a ladies uniform, towels, locker room key, paid for my service and amenities and that was it. I know the guy wasn't going to guide me into and around the ladies facility, but the young gal with her back to the doors, deeply involved in her computer work, would have been nice to offer. Nope, so off I went, reading each sign I came to. There are A LOT of lockers! I stopped counting after 60! Inside each is a hanger and shelf for shoes and personal items. The key for the locker is on water safe bracelet. ALWAYS START BY FULLY SHOWERING BEFORE USING ANY POOL OR ROOM! The hot whirlpool was large perfect temp and could easily accommodate 10, but it was chlorine, which I'm not wild about. The steam rooms were HUGE! Plenty of room and plenty of fabulous hot steam. The dry sauna was also a very nice size and perfectly dry heat. The cold plunge here was used waaaay more than any cold plunge I've seen at a spa and I was one of those participants. LOVE ME A COLD PLUNGE! Lots of showers all around, some for just standing, but others with features so you can sit and shave your legs, or pre scrub. The only thing lacking in the shower area was a place to put your bin or towel. Most ladies ended up putting them on a wall around the whirl pool, but that wasn't always the driest or closest place. If you don't want people tracking wet bodies into the dry locker area, provide some areas for towels to remain dry while showering. My scrub was good, albeit not as thorough as I'm use to, but good. Again, the chlorine played an important role in skin removal. LOL! But here's something I observed, the scrub and facial or massage were also done in the same area, along with the other scrub tables. At K-Town spas, if you're getting multiple services, they may start with your scrub in the community scrub area, but move you to a quiet area for facial or massage. Here, they just continued the services in the scrub area. No frills, just giving you the service you ordered. Hmmm.... After my scrub, I got dressed in my uniform and headed upstairs to the community/share rooms for some lunch and more relaxation. My lunch of seaweed soup was fabulous and I sat with a nice view of the local neighborhood. When I was done, I checked out the "Theme Rooms" which men and women share. I was only able to try the cedar oxygen room, the ice room and the lounge. All the other rooms I would have tried if I were in my birthday suit, but they were set way to hot for trying with clothes on. I may try the sleep area, nice these ARE separate for men and ladies, but I'll remember to bring a cover for my eyes since the lights are on FULL, fluoresce in here. Hopefully my photos help provide more insight. It was pretty quiet for a Thursday and I would go back, but honestly, a big draw is the cafe's seaweed soup. I did find out it's ok to take that to go if I just wanted scrub and shower/steam/cold plunge next visit. Cheers! "CC"

Always love this place! I've tried their scrubs, massages, and enjoyed all the amenities--including the food! It used to be just $20 to enter, but it's now $33. Still totally worth it. The place is always clean and well-sanitized, and they even provide toiletries like a toothbrush, toothpaste, shampoo, conditioner, and soap. I ended up buying their $200 package, which has saved me a lot since I can keep coming back just to use the amenities. The entrance fee is waived if you get a massage, facial, or scrub, which makes it an even better deal. Highly recommend!

Been coming here for years now. Gradually over the years the downstairs spa area has slowly gotten dirtier throughout the years. Used to be spotless. Other then that an absolute great spa maybe even the best within a 40 mile radius. Highly reccomend. The kitchen upstairs is absolutely amazing. Have had almost everything on the menu and my favorites id say are the ramen and spicy beef soup. Can't go wrong with anything on the menu honestly.

Don't use on your face! If it's your first time ask!

LADIES READ Listen this place is nice. Clean, peaceful. Wish it had little more oomph but much easier than downtown. **READ THIS PART** Ok listen Caucasian ladies...especially the 2 who were there this evening as I left. That little scrub mitt....ITS NOT FOR YOUR FACE!!!! I watched these 2 women rub their damn face red and basically raw ! Why! Don't do that! Your face and body skin is nowhere near the same. You can create small tears on your face. Also do not use soap while doing this. the more you know

Descanso Spa is a great choice for body scrubs and massages. The facility is known for its cleanliness, which adds to the relaxing experience. The spa is well-maintained, with a calming ambiance that helps you unwind the moment you step in. Their body scrub services are thorough, leaving your skin feeling refreshed and revitalized. The massages are also highly rated, with skilled therapists who tailor the experience to your needs, ensuring you leave feeling rejuvenated. One of the standout features of Descanso Spa is its affordability. Despite the high-quality services and clean environment, the prices are reasonable, making it accessible for those looking for a spa experience without breaking the bank. Whether you're there for a quick body scrub or a longer massage session, you're likely to find it a good value for the money. Overall, if you're seeking a spa that offers cleanliness, effective treatments, and affordability, Descanso Spa is definitely worth considering. They also have restaurant that serves food. Different room such as Salt room, oxygen room. clay room. Worth the drive.

Ramen looks like the package was divided in half, extra small.

Does man and woman hook up here?

    Absolutely not.

What is the typical tip on a 110 scrub massage? It's my first time, and I don't want to seem cheap.

I usually tip 20%, as they do a lot of hard work-scrub from top to bottom!

Are any scrub wet rooms private?

I'm not sure but call them!

Can I wrap a towel around waist in the spa area or is it fully nude?

You can use towel in the wet area (:

How much is the one day pass?

    $30 and well worth it.

Do you go barefoot or should I bring flip flops?

Per their policy online: "Take your shoes off after Check-In and take it with you to your locker and store it IN your locker."

Can you be naked for your massage? I'm male. Prefer female masseuse.

I dont think you have a choice. But, there is an option to purchase a disposable bikini, you may be able to wear that

My friends is "technically" female but identifies as male. Can he go into the mens side with me?

This review is long overdue…read more I have been going to RA Organic Spa for over 20 years. I have visited other resorts and spas, but I'm always grateful that I found RA and can keep coming back. The feeling of comfort and serenity is abundant the moment you walk in. They greet you by name when you arrive and again when you leave. The lobby is small but very welcoming. They offer plenty of products for purchase, but they never hard-sell you. When you check in, there is a small waiting area where you can sit with hot tea, water, and small snacks while you wait. Please make sure to turn off your cell phone--this is a quiet zone, so whispering or no talking is encouraged. The dim lighting really makes you feel like you've stepped into another world. There is also another waiting area in the back if you need to change into a robe for your service. There is actually a lot of space back there to relax while waiting. The treatment rooms themselves are warm and comfortable, and each room has a closet for your personal items. In the back area, they also have changing spaces and lockers. There are two changing areas, along with a room that has chairs specifically for foot and neck massages. I highly, highly, highly recommend the foot massage. They take it to the next level because they start with your neck and arms before moving to the foot massage. I dare you to try not to fall asleep by the time they're done. I have seen the spa when they are busy and when they are slow, and I have never seen it dirty or unkempt. The level of cleanliness and the standards maintained by the staff have always been excellent. I've never had trouble booking an appointment. I've also given gift certificates to family members and friends, and three people I know now go there regularly because of those gifts. Their prices are by far some of the best in the industry. You simply cannot find a facial at the price they offer at RA. I've looked, and I can't find anything comparable. If you want a facial, I highly highly recommend Maria. She has truly turned back time on my skin with the facials she gives me. She listens to your needs and walks you through the products she uses to make sure they match what your skin needs and what you're looking for. She genuinely cares. Under new management, they have recently added online booking through their website, which is wonderful. I'm looking forward to another great 20 years going to RA--ugh, I just aged myself! A few additional notes: they do have a sauna, bathrooms, and one bathroom includes a shower. Parking can be a little tricky. There is structure parking and street parking, but the street parking is timed. I do have a great parking spot that I like to use... but I can't tell you where it is. It's my secret spot. Sorry!

My day started with being shown where the changing/locker room is, what to do next and where the lounge area is. There are waters and cups and plenty of seating to choose from while you wait. The fireplace really elevates the lounge. Lana did my CBD oil massage. She was very kind and made sure I was comfortable. I'm not experienced with massages so I had a bit of trouble letting go control of my arm at one point, but she reminded me to relax. Afterward she brought me a drink which is probably normal for them but it was really nice lol. Again I'm not a seasoned spa goer. I really enjoyed the massage though. Next I tried out the sauna for a few minutes which was clean and very relaxing. Up next was my copper bath. When I stepped inside, I felt like royalty because it's set up so pretty with candles and flowers, it's a really nice tub with jets as well. I didn't want that to end haha. Next came my clarifying facial with Arely. This consisted of chemical exfoliation, extractions, an LED mask and a peel. She massaged me a bit as well which was nice. I wasn't sure if the extraction process did anything however because she applied no pressure to extract, it felt like just tapping on areas of my face but it's not a big deal. I can extract at home. The rest was relaxing! I finished the day off with Danielle, who was absolutely phenomenal. She told me exactly what we're doing and made me feel comfortable. First was the scrub, then she got a shower ready for me to rinse off and then brought me fresh water for after. Next came the body melt which smelled fantastic and felt really moisturizing. Danielle went out of her way to even give me a scalp massage and she sent me home with some of the body melt she used. I finished my day feeling at peace, soft and in a great mood. I do think I accidentally left my socks in my robe pocket but it's ok. No pictures because this was a total unplug day for me. No devices, no social media, just being present in the moment.
