For $110, I got a great scrub and massage. There's lots of facilities to use, it's very clean and the restaurant was delicious

This was my first time to a Korean Spa and it made a lasting first impression. The spa was clean and not crowded. I was there 2.5 hours and did not have a chance to try all the wet and dry rooms. I didn't try any of the services, but would like to next time. The restaurant was expensive, but the food was good. Tip: Order your food, then go hang out in a room to relax for 15-30 minutes and it'll be ready for you. The spa is part of a strip mall and there is plenty of parking. As I was leaving, I saw a mom and approx 5 yo daughter coming in the lobby. That was the only child I saw that day. read more

My first time was today . I do like spas . A great way to decompress stress !! Did you know going in a sauna is good for your cardiovascular system, and you grow new brain cells !! The spa is really clean . $25 if you want sauna and steam room , and jacuzzi. $30 for everything plus the coed rooms upstairs. You must takeoff your shoes after leaving front . They are supposed to give you a white towel but they didn't give me one I guess they were out. There are unlimited little gray towels that are in the shower area. The spa area is kind of small. Today I went it seemed to be kind of crowded. Steam room was really hot and it seem to never go off. Sauna was good it wasn't too hot. They have the usual amenities, generic razors toothbrushes, and Q-tips. They have a mens scrub area that is kind of open, so don't be too modest :-) I didn't get it today, maybe I'll check it out next time. They have underground parking, Plus parking in the front . And it is free. There is no time limit on how long you can stay . Also I forgot they have salt in the men's common area for a salt scrub. read more

I'm so glad that we found Descanso Garden Spa. It is $30 entry for both the wet saunas and upstairs jimjilbang rooms. There is plenty of parking and because the spa is on the 2-3 floor of a shopping complex, there is a really nice view out the window of the cedar resting room to enjoy the foothills. The wet sauna area is relatively small, but I haven't found the spa very crowded so it's still enjoyable. There is one hot tub, one cold bath, an extended steam sauna, one dry sauna, about 6 showers, and about 16 sit-down showerhead stations. I did a body scrub and oil massage and it was really great! Always nice to feel scrubbed clean of all the dead skin :) The Jimjilbang rooms are also really nice, really spacious and clean, with plenty of room to sit or lay down. There are a couple of sleeping rooms too that are completely dark with no TVs, which I really appreciate. The food court was still temporarily closed as of mid-March. read more

Mixed review. It was great to find a Korean type spa in the Valley. The place is very small and architecturally has some drawbacks. Here is my quick but comprehensive review after going for my first time yesterday. 1) Booking appointment and check-in: Easy and quick and the staff at the front desk was super nice and friendly. That said, make note that on the website when it says body rubs will be done by same-sex staff, that only means the salt rubs. I was under the impression I was getting a male masseuse and that didn't happen and they didn't offer to cancel the appointment. 2) Men's sauna space: Small compared to other places. From sitting in one area, whether it be the dry sauna, the showers, the jacuzzi, or cold dip, you could see every part of the entire men's space. The lighting is very bright, like airport bright. The quarters are tight in every space of that men's area. But, that said, it's all very clean and well maintained. 3) Co-ed rooms upstairs: Very nice, roomy and lots of great options. I wish the men's sleeping room had tatami mats rather than chairs, but it's fine. I particularly liked the cold room and there germanium room. 4) Cafe: Very friendly guy working there. About ten different options, all savory. They do have shaved ice (bonus points) but that's about it. The drink choices were all bottled and in a fridge, so no boba or fresh made drinks. I wish the outside patio had seating as it would be a lovely view to see the mountains while eating. But it was completely bare, just standing room. I guess to eat people would get a mat and sit in the area outside the cafe. 5) Facial: very very basic. This was over a hundred dollars and felt like a sixty dollar facial. Lots of shoulder massaging and not a lot of steam. The extraction process could have been more diligent. The mask was effective. No music playing and about ten feet from the front desk, so you hear everything going on in the lobby. Not relaxing really. Not able to understand more than basic "yes" or "no" in English. 6) Massage: Probably the worse massage in my life. I stopped it after five minutes and asked her to just focus on reflexology. She didn't speak English well either and didn't understand. So I motioned to my feet. She started but then I stopped that after five minutes. Ever have a massage that literally causes you more stress and to be tightened up everywhere? I just asked her to stop after twenty minutes or so. Also, to keep in mind, that massage room was also about ten feet from the lobby, the door was kept open, so it was just constant noise of people talking who work there or people coming in to pay and use the facilities. Very much not relaxing space. No refund was offered. I didn't ask for one though. I just wanted to get out of there. So overall, it could be relaxing to use their co-ed rooms upstairs. There was no male-male action at all in the men's room, not that there could have been since it is so small and bright. The place was clean at least. Hope this helps people wondering if they should visit this spa. (We need better spa options in the Valley!) read more

I have found my heaven!!! I am a veteran of many of the Korean spas in LA, and so often they have disappointed me. One of my favorites was awesome until they started being infested with bed bugs. One of my other favorites doesn't have that problem, but they are always crowded and require valet parking, which I don't like. Another was stingy with towels, and now they are closed. Yet another has dispensed with any Korean clientele and is full of WeHo gawkers and players. And most of the above have staff members who are between indifferent and rude. Well, Descanso doesn't have ANY of these issues. The staff is exceptionally polite. The place is clean. The place is medium-sized with full facilities. The men's area is chill. The prices are reasonable. My first spa treatment--the Aroma Body Scrub and Massage--was 90 minutes of intense skilled heaven. One of the best and most thorough of my lifetime. (Thank you, Mr. Go, for your incredible expertise!!!) AND THE RESTAURANT IS OPEN AGAIN!!! I'm an LA native, and while I like the energy of Koreatown, the bad parking and crime are not fun. But my alter ego absolutely loves the serenity of the secret towns at the foothills--La Cresenta, Montrose, LaCanada-Flintridge, and even the more rough and tumble Sunland and Tujunga. Hey, there's parking. There's a modicum of quiet. And there's this wonderful spa establishment, quietly sitting on Foothill unbeknownst to most of LA. I like that. While there were a couple of people who violated the rules (wearing shorts inside the spa, plunging in the cold plunge without showering after the steamroom), I'm kinda numb to this now, since so many non-Koreans seem to flout these rules. But the spa itself was killer, with the right amount of appointments to make it a weighty alternative to some of the bigger spas in Koreatown. DIdn't even visit the Jjimjilbang this first visit. Happy with the nicely hot jacuzzi, cold plunge, sauna, steam, showers on the men's side. Now that the restaurant is open again, I can enjoy my full Korean spa experience and bring friends....and never technically leave the San Fernando Valley. I'm stoked about that. Bliss. read more

I found this place from a brief search. It's a short drive from Descanso Gardens, where I luxuriated among the tulips before my appointment. My lady-in-waiting Hana was a dynamo! She scrubbed me all the way back to my Ur-birthday suit. I wasnt apprised about the various dens upstairs, so make sure you check them out while you're still captive. What a nice find! read more

My 4th visit here and I have to say, it's a nice break from the congestion of other Korean spas. Hands down, the best treatment is the body scrub with oil massage and facial. Thanks Mr Go for making my skin feel like a baby's bottom. Staff is very friendly, lots of parking, and the place is super clean. Love the salt room and cold room as well. I booked my appointment on the website which was super easy. They confirmed shortly thereafter. I'm hesitant to highly recommend because this place will only get more crowded. A small but cute K spa if you're not close to K town. Truly, if you are able, Wi Spa is five times the size for the same price, but it's a decent option if you're up north a bit, and this is closer to you than CJ Grand in Northridge or any of the options in Koreatown. read more

This review is specifically for the restaurant. I came on a weekend, around 8pm for a quick sauna. I don't come here often but knew there was a restaurant upstairs so I went to check if they were still open. There wasn't anyone there but the doors were open, chairs still down, and the owner and his son at the register. I asked "are you guys still open?". The owner said that the kitchen closes at 8:15, in 5 more minutes. I take this at face value - most eateries say this to let customers know, yes you can place an order. If he truly didn't want to serve more customers, he could've simply said "I'm sorry, the kitchens closed" to which I would have said OK thank you and went on my merry way. So I think wow, got here right in time and place my order. This is when I noticed his face completely change, he is obviously pissed. He literally heads straight back to the kitchen without saying a word - I pay on my own using the kiosk and I press NO TIP. Obviously. I sit down and he heads back, sees I pressed no tip, he looks at me, scoffs loud enough for me to hear and says "재수없어" with a scowl. For you non Korean speakers, this is equivalent in rudeness to saying "what a b**ch". He then proceeds to throw around pans and whatever else in the back, very loud. And I've worked in kitchens and restaurants, and this wasn't just your normal kitchen noises. He was obviously letting out his anger at the fact he had to serve a customer. And listen, my family operates a restaurant. I was in the shoes of his kid, being dragged to work everyday and seeing my parents toil and sweat in the kitchen until closing time. They still do. I empathize fully with how exhausting and draining it is to operate a food business. But we have never, EVER thought it was ok to insult and treat a customer like they are such a BURDEN for wanting to eat at our restaurant no matter what time they came. And if they came late or too close to kitchen closing, it is common courtesy to just say the kitchen is closed and move on. What is this weird behavior by the OWNER where you say you're still open yet acts pissed when someone wants to order food? Maybe don't operate a restaurant? Anyway, at this point I seriously worried this man was going to spit in my food. So I went up to his son, told him "you can tell your dad to stop cooking. I don't want the food, and I don't need my money back. But here, I will like to purchase this drink from you and I will tip you 20% for food included since he is so troubled". The son has more decency & courtesy than the owner, at least. I'd rather they keep the $30 or so bucks (overpriced too for a small plate of food). Im doing you a favor since you're so pissed bout having to be here - take this little extra $$, start a fund to run far away and never return, or simply buy a box of snickers, and go do something about being a miserable person so customers don't have to deal with it. The spa itself is nicer than Wi. But I'll find another spa and won't ever be back. read more

i'm sure amazing if you are light skin. my family and I tried to attend. felt very discriminated against. From the moment, we walked in the door. We were bringing a child under five with us. we called the night before showing up with the child drove two hours for us to tell them that she was not welcome There even tho we had called to make sure but they seen our skin tone and told us no even though they told us that it was absolutely OK I am very, very disappointed. we are now going to attend the wi spa. read more

The place is clean and well kept. The restaurant is ok, but a kid was coughing behind the counter and insisted on helping us. The main concern is that the female scrubber used the same disgusting scrubbing material for everyone. When I asked the front desk (run by teens) they said I need to buy one. That is a huge health code violation. I am giving them this review, in the hope they will remedy the issue, before reporting them to the HHS. read more

Having experienced spas in luxury hotels abroad in London, the Mediterranean, Las Vegas, and here in LA, the Descanso Gardens spa was a surprisingly wonderful experience. Excellent customer service and very clean facility. The massages are outstanding, and, I just love the different themed rooms such as Cold, Hot Salt, Hot Yellow-Soil Charcoal, Germanium, and Oxygen. I took a friend there for her birthday, and we had the finest time. The Descanso Gardens spa offers access to all areas of the facility until the closing of the day. The spa caters to both genders' individual needs. I highly recommend the Descanso Garden Spa experience. This was perhaps our 7th or 8th time coming but had a vastly different experience today. Usually, it's our go to place for Korean body scrubs to not be in the busy Ktown area for similar services. The facility is simple and clean and has all the basics no frills. Massages and scrubs are usually great and I leave feeling relaxed . NOT TODAY!! I'm laying down as I write this because my neck is stiff and legs hurts. Both my masseuse and my friends was so rough today and going so so fast you'd think they were trying to do a 1 hour massage in 10 minutes like it was just a frantic pace that was hard on my body and not all relaxing. The lady was impatient when I turned over slowly considering I was oiled up on a rubber bed and didn't want to fall and break my ass. It was not at all what I have been accustomed to in the past and after today not sure if we will return. Off to take an advil. read more

I can't comment on the food there as I haven't tried it. Is the place a bit of a maze? What an awesome spa (worth the short drive for me). Price is very affordable (fee includes first and second floor). I hadn't been to a spa since CJ Grand closed months ago (someone told me about this place) and I love it. It's very clean and everything seems relatively new. Staff is friendly, they do offer towels and provide clothes for the second floor. They have hot tub, cold tub, steam room and dry spot sauna, upstairs they have a bunch of different rooms like yellow soil, charcoal and my favorite Himalayan salt along with many others. They also have place where you can sit and relax along with other services like Scrubs and stuff. They're open relatively late and it's definitely worth carving out sometime in your schedule to go and relax. read more

the good: the spa itself is a great facility and looks well taken care of and clean. there are only about 5 rooms that are non gendered/ clothes on and everything else is separated by gender and no clothing is allowed. the bad: it was our first time and the woman didn't really tell us much so i started asking questions and she seemed annoyed. the korean patrons are also big bullies who speak very loudly in korean in the rooms that are supposed to be silent. they also falsely told a male (non korean) patron that a room was for "ladies only" when it wasn't. they aren't the nicest and definitely feel like this spa theirs and everyone else just needs to deal. PS: bring your own house shoes as they sell them here. otherwise you'll have to go barefoot. read more

Horrible experience! My mother had been wanting to go to this spa for a long time and she lives out of town, so I was thrilled when I called and they gave us appointments for Mother's Day weekend. My mom drove two hours so that we could have a spa day together. But when we arrived, they couldn't find our appointments and were basically like "no, sorry". I told them my mother drove two hours to come to that spa, and When I asked for a manager, the young man in the front left for 5 mins, came back and said "my manager can't come out because he's filing papers right now..." SERIOUSLY? You have an upset customer that your employees made a commitment to and you're too busy filing papers? So then they offered us scrubs only (our appointment was for scrub and massage) and I just said ok, let's not ruin the day and just move forward. I paid for the two scrubs and asked where we go and they're like, downstairs is wet and upstairs is dry. Ok how do I get downstairs? I've never been here before. She points vaguely and mumbles something and so we go in that general direction. As we are walking some lady pops her head out of a room and starts yelling at us about wearing our shoes. That was where I was done. Like there's no possible way I can relax in this place and I'm not giving them my money after this treatment. We went back to the front desk and asked for a refund and left. Only to encounter another customer in the parking lot elevator, wet, in a robe or towel, desperately trying to find her way back into the spa. She was so frustrated, told us that she's lost and they told her to "go downstairs" and she's now in a parking lot in a towel. She was so upset and told us the spa is filthy and no one is helping her find her way around etc etc. Never going here again. Unreal. read more

This place was not relaxing. It was loud like a market. You can't wear swimsuits. My scrub was really rough and I am micro cuts now as a result of over exfoliating. In the cedar room guests were talking very loud. The food was very basic. If you are going to relax, pick somewhere else. It was not an enjoyable experience. Do not recommend the scrub/massage where you lay naked on a rubber table and have water thrown on you. There is tons of standing water. You can't wear shoes. read more

I looooove this place!!!! Why? Cuz it is so unassuming in the middle of Tujunga! It's the only occupant in a brand new strip mall. It has great sauna rooms (I love the salt room!) and everything is spanking clean! The clientele is predominantly Korean (out in Tujunga! Awesome!) so I got to see the cheerful camaraderie of older folks speaking a different language. Very inviting! The cafeteria is a boon! Very tough to find good ethnic food out here in the Sunland area (except for good Mexican and Armenian food). I honestly would go to the spa just to eat late night Korean food than driving the 30 minutes to K-town and then trying to find parking for another 15 minutes. Their couples' night is on Thursdays ($35 for TWO people!) so I can see this being a great date spot with a yummy meal after your spa treatments. And it's not too expensive. Spa itself is ok, nothing phenomenal, but just an average Korean spa. I do like the location of the spa and the facility is fairly clean. The front desk lady was very kind, and the scrub lady was amazing. However, I would not recommend their massage services. I paid $110 for an hour length Swedish massage session, and it was a total rip off. The masseuse lady clearly had no background in any proper education in massage. She doesn't have ANY skills, and was just roughly rubbing oil on my body entire hour. This has been the worst massage that I've experienced i my life so far. Please do not waste your money on their massage service. Also, as other reviewers mentioned, their customers are the problem and it needs to be managed better. There are "Please take off your shoes" sign all over the spa, but these ignorant people do not care and still wears their shoes everywhere. It was pretty disgusting to stay with my bare feet. read more

There's lot of parking. I really liked this place, it's a hidden gem. I've been to a few korean spas and this place is probably my favorite so far because it's not crowded at all but I can see that there's not a huge crowd since it's far from k-town. The place is really clean, and they have the different rooms upstairs with the jiljimbang. The rooms are really relaxing with a range of temperatures. The ladies spa area was quite interesting, they had the a warm pool and cold pool,steam saunas/dry sauna/ and a salt steam sauna. I wasn't sure what to do in the salt steam sauna because they had a bucket of salt outside of the sauna (wasn't sure if i was suppose to take it into the sauna?) Really clean facility, and the food was pretty decent. Food prices at spas are usually more expensive, but i was okay with that. Highly recommend this place and will come back again. read more
