Barry absolutely went above and beyond taking care of my JT with a 4.88 gear ratio upgrade! He even took the extra time to troubleshoot a service transmission light and made sure everything was 100% right before handing it back. He also helped me save money by making it work without needing my Mini Tazer, super honest and knowledgeable guy! On top of that, he set me up with another matching Fuel wheel and a great-priced tire as a spare under the Jeep. Can't wait to come back after the 500-mile break-in for the gear oil change. I was at another shop who diagnosed an issue I was having to be with my vehicle's suspension. The quote from the other shop was higher than I was expecting, so I started asking friends and acquaintances for referrals for suspension work on my off-road vehicle. After calling Desert Ray, I was quoted a more reasonable rate for the purchase and installation of an Icon suspension kit. There were some fairly long delays in getting parts from the manufacturer, (thanks pandemic) but that is definitely not the fault of the shop itself. Desert Rat did a great job installing my new Icon suspension and I couldn't be happier with the new suspension and their work. In addition to the ICON suspension upgrade, desert rat spent weeks inspecting and diagnosing a sound that was coming from my suspension, they installed replacement CV axels and did a body mount chop / cab mount chop on my vehicle to accommodate for some rubbing from my tires. In the end, Dessert Rat was much lower on their quote for purchase and installation of the suspension than the original shop I was at. The unfortunate ding on this review is because they were not able to find the source of the sound I had coming from my front passenger side. I wouldn't hesitate referring anyone I know to this shop for off-road and aftermarket modifications to their vehicle. Desert Rat has a high quality of work and competitive prices on parts and labor. They were super great to work with and admitted defeat when they were unable to get to the bottom of my noise problem. read more

Update: Had someone check out the bolts and nuts for torque and found out that Desert Rat NEVER greased any of the ball joints in ANY of the parts. So dry as a bone everywhere. These people are completely moronic to say the least. Parts will go bad without grease much faster. Lawyer wants to sue for all new parts! read more

The previous place I went to informed me I'd need certain repairs and I brought my Jeep here for a second opinion. Barry scheduled my Jeep for a rack check. The process took between 60 to 90 minutes. I went in today (week later) and had my shocks replaced. I had to stay and wait since I didn't have someone to pick me up. I sat in the waiting area, but I heard a lot of positive customer interaction while there. Barry told me he would trade me money for my Jeep and I knew the job was complete. They are efficient and polite. They don't try and upsell you, they just say it like it is. This is only the second 4x4 type place that has serviced my Jeep- but the service here was definitely better. They set me up with super shiny Bilstein shocks. I had Teraflex shocks when I arrived. I haven't done much driving to test out the new shocks, but this is not a review about those. read more

When I contacted the store they said the part was "on the shelf and would ship in 4-5 days." 20 days later they still hadn't shipped the part. I was then told that it shipped from the manufacturer's warehouse. Then I was lied to again and they told me the part was on the shelf. These guys are liars. Go somewhere else. read more

Update 2/23/23: This morning, I received a phone call from Tim Furrier the owner of Desert Rat in regards to my being overcharged in the store for a part. He expressed his disappointment in what occurred and that I was correct in my review. He advised that he makes every attempt to provide his customers with a wonderful experience in his store, but he said that he has newly hired employees who are unaware on how to handle certain issues. He will take this opportunity to provide training in customer service for his employees. He assured us that this incident doesn't represent them as a business. My husband called and sales person advised that he had the part in hand and ready for pick up. We do not live close by and drove for 30 minutes. When we get there not the correct part. They advised they have one in Tempe and will have it on Monday for us and will call me to let me know when it arrives and price is $24.99. No call Monday and so I called on Tuesday - Travis said we just got the part in. We go there and price on box is marked $27.99 and price is $30.99 in the computer. I asked him 3 times about the price discrepancy and each time he said I will I give you the best deal. After overcharging me, I brought this to his attention again about the higher priced item on my receipt. He said that the transaction is done and he can not do anything about it. We can talk to a manager about the price issue. He never called the manager over and kept on repeating himself like a broken record! So what happened to the $24.99 price? The 2 star rating It is not the loss of a few dollars, but about being ignorant and not honest with your customers. Buy your jeep parts elsewhere. Don't trust what they quote you. I took my 2014 FJ in for new Bilstein shocks and subsequently a 2" lift. While I was there I inquired about a ladder to be installed at a different date. They had the vehicle all day so plenty of time to do a good job. After leaving and driving less than 9 miles to go pick up food, I noticed my driver hub cap was missing. I promptly called and they said they would look to see if it was around the shop and if not would replace it. I know it fell off after I left because I looked at the tires and shocks before leaving. The shocks were done earlier this year before the COVID shutdown still no replacement. I called again three weeks ago and was told the person who "handled" my transaction would call me back and I again asked about installing the ladder. No hub cap no appointment for the ladder equals no more business from me at this location. No follow up even when I was trying to give them more business. read more

I don't understand why, but it seems this company only hires people who are adept at making others feel unwelcome. I called and talked to employees at both stores in Tucson and thought the standoffish attitude must just be the guy on the phone having a bad day. Went into the Palo Verde store in Tucson and was basically treated like I was a hobo. They were not friendly, didn't greet me, and were very short with their answers, basically telling me they had no tires that would fit my truck. I find that odd because ford made alot of F-250s... It is a bummer too because I was Gung-ho to spend a bunch of money beefing up my F-250 and had gotten the Desert-Rat credit card and was gonna do a Lift, rims, tires, lockers, and a winch. After being treated like dirt by both stores on the phone, and one store in person I will close that credit account and shop elsewhere. I suggest you do the same if you have self respect. read more

I can't recommend Desert Rat as they provided POOR customer service and made me feel like they didn't give a Sh$T whether I was their customer or not. I called to purchase a bed cover and schedule it to be installed. They took a deposit and scheduled me for install in three weeks (their first available appointment). The day before my scheduled installation appointment, Barry called me and left me a message saying they had to cancel my appointment because they didn't have a technician to install it the next day. I called back and was told that "Barry was busy but would call me to reschedule my installation". There was no offer of coming in early or staff staying late to accommodate my appointment. I waited for over a week for someone to call to reschedule my appointment and no one called. I finally walked in and asked for a refund of my deposit. I DO appreciate that they didn't give me grief and DID refund my deposit but, there was no attempt to keep my business or obtain any future business from me. Being a firefighter, they didn't just lose MY business but, I'm going to inform my brothers in blue to save them from the lack of respect or service. read more

Super pleased with the service I received from Mike and Chris at Desert Rat. I took in my new Superduty for an alignment, and though they were heavily booked, these guys found a way to get me in the next day. While that was good service, it got better from there - when Chris (the Tech) put the truck on the rack, he noticed that the ball joint in the upper end of the track bar was worn out. Rather that completing an alignment (that wouldn't have fixed my wandering steering due to the bad ball joint), he stopped there, taking the time to show me the issue so that I could take it back to Ford under my warranty. Mike didn't charge me for the finding the issue, and offered me some other suggestions to tighten up my steering once I've gotten the drag link replaced. I'll definitely be back! Thanks again guys! Bad business practice. I should say this was an online purchase. I don't see a way to post a review for the online store so I am posting the review here. If Desert Rat stores are independently owned than this review should only apply to online store. I purchased a pair of Bilstein Shocks for my Toyota truck on 5/9/21 for $186.00 and my PayPal account was charged the same day. Ten days later no parts yet so I found the confirmation email from the date of sale saying exactly the following: "Thank you for shopping at Desert Rat. Your order is now pending review from our sales staff." Nothing else. I called but it was after hours. I email them asking why they charged me and did not ship or do anything except the above email? I promptly received the following (this is 10 days after they charged my $186): "These shocks are currently on national backorder. We do have these an an existing stock order with Bilstein but are waiting for them to replenish their inventory. Once we receive these we will finish processing this order and get it sent out to you. If you have any questions please give us a call. THEY SOLD ME PARTS THEY DID NOT HAVE TO SELL AND MADE NO EFFORT TO INFORM ME FOR 10 DAYS UNTIL I INQUIRED! They admitted the parts were on "National backorder" but accepted my payment for parts they know they could not provide. Not cool and probably not legal. read more

Order number: 1914631 Went to buy ARB add-a-leafs, spring liners, spring spacers, and tire repair kit. The website listed two liners for the same price. I called to inquire and was told to order SRBC60B and I would receive the 4 liners I needed. Placed my order on 9/9/20 and received confirmation on 9/10/20, not indicating any items were out of stock or back ordered. On 9/17/20 my order status had not changed so I called. I was told the gentleman that helps with these inquires was at lunch and he would return my call that afternoon, no phone call. I called 9/18/20 and talked to Moses. He said they were waiting on some of my parts and that is why my shipment had not left. When asked why I wasn't update he said they do not do that type of thing. He was able to get my spacers drop shipped and the rest of my order on its way and it only took two days to get to me. When I received my order there was only one spring spacer and the wrong tire repair kit. I called on 9/21/20 and was told the gentleman that takes these inquires was not available and would return my call, no call. I called on 9/22/20 and spoke to Moses again. He said that I only ordered one liner and he did not know who gave me the wrong information regarding it including all 4. He said the tire repair kit is nicer than the one I ordered. I said I don't care because the other kit had more tools included, but we agreed on free shipping on the additional parts I needed to cover the mishap. I was told the order would be put together and shipped out the next day. I did not receive an email or anything so on 9/29 I called and talked to a gentleman that said the order was scheduled to go out today. When asked why it did not go out last week, he was unsure and maybe they were waiting on parts. Why not communicate that to the customer....again? Original thought? When asked if the parts could be expedited he said no way because that would be more than the parts themselves. Just starting this build but 100%confident I will not be giving any more money to these monkeys. Honestly the only reason I did order from them is they were the only ones that didn't have the ARB add-a-leafs on back order. At this point I could have waited for the other companies to receive their stock, order it, wait on standard shipping, and still receive it faster. Spend your money elsewhere and invest in a company that actually values it's customers not their wallet. read more

Very dissatisfied with the service at Desert Rat off 19th and Peoria. Went in to replace the shocks on my truck so I ordered them and was quoted "about 100 bucks" for the install. After a week I found out the shocks got sent to their warehouse so I had to wait another week for them to be sent to the shop. Then one of the shocks was dead out of the box, which I get isn't their fault but after another 2 and a half weeks of waiting to get the replacement shock sent in it turns out they ordered the wrong replacement shock. So after over a month and a half after my initial visit I finally got my shocks done, but was then charged nearly double what I was quoted for the install. I got charged for 2 hours of labor at 85 bucks an hour. I didn't realize "about 100 bucks" meant 175! read more

PLEASE READ.... I normally don't do this type of thing but i thought that maybe if I share my experience it will help me fell better.. I took my 2016 Jeep Wrangler in to Desert Rat Off road to get a suspension inspection as I was having some wobble in my steering wheel and shaking at 70+ mph. Later that day I get phone call from the guy at the front desk saying that they found the problem and if I came down they would be happy to show me. I got to the Desert rat and was taken to the back and shown the issue that would solve my steering wheel problem.. the bushings on all four tires seemed to have some play and needed to be replaced. I was quoted $1100 to replace all the bushings that had play. Since my jeep was still under warranty I decided to take it to the dealer. The dealer replaced all the bushings that had play but had found a few other items that needed attention on my suspension. they quoted me on parts and labor. I politely declined and said that I would get the work done with my preferred shop. A few days after I picked up my vehicle from the dealer I went to desert rat to talk to the guy that I had spoke to about getting the bushings replace. I had presented him with the sheet of additional issues with the suspension that desert rat didn't find. Immediately the guy got on the defense! I tried to tell him that I was not there to complain but to find out what the next steps were and how we can get this resolved. It seemed almost as if the guy could not understand what I was saying. He got very defensive and asked me what did I want! And and went as far as calling my problem pathetic! I could not understand why in the world the guy was acting the way he was. He began to get very red in the face and said that I was attacking him and doubting his techs abilities. The more that I would try to calm the guy down and defuse the situation the angrier he got. Until finally he just gave my paperwork over to his manager who was on the phone. My initial thought was just to walk out and never come back. I have never in my life ever felt so disrespected so embarrassed so belittled. So I stayed and spoke with the manager. Shawn the manager was great he was able to handle the situation very professionally and focused on my initial problem. He went over the list that the dealership had gave me and gave me insight on how I can get those issues resolved and offered to fix some of them in house. He apologized and shook my hand. As soon as I got in my car I called the general manager Tim and left him a voicemail. He called me back later that day and was very sincere in his apology. he offered to resolve my issues that I was having with my jeep and refund my money. We even set up a day for me to bring in my jeep the following week. Although I know we all have tough days. Customer service is a soft skill professionalism should always take priority At a place of business. Although I really enjoyed visiting desert rat on weekends with my son and picking up accessories for the jeep wrangler. I can no longer support this establishment. I did receive my refund for the inspection that was not done accurately. And do except the apology from Shawn and from Tim at desert rat. read more

My issue with this company is the lack of urgency regarding the issue. I reached out to Desert Rat to get the issue resolved and was told to contact the manufacturer. I've contacted the manufacturer several times with no response. I've made desert rat aware of this situation but have not received any followup. read more
