Went in and got a decent deal on a tanning package. Tanned a few times and figured out that I don't really tan... my ass just burns and then its hard to sit down.. :( The staff is very friendly and the atmosphere is relaxing. This is my first experience with tanning and so far it's been great. I've been coming in for the last 3 weeks and the staff here is amazing. On my first day, I met Allie, she gave me a tour of all the beds and showed me how to use them. She even helped me figure out where to start and set appointments with recommended times for me to try to help me build up a base time. I've gotten to know some of the other girls there by now too and they are all great. Sometimes I make an appointment but I usually just walk in. I don't know what's going on with these other reviews but I have never been told the beds were by appointment only. They do only have two super beds and recommend appointments for those but it isn't hard to get one. Overall, I've had a great experience and the girls really know their stuff! DO NOT WAIST YOUR MONEY. I got a package that included 15 tans. When I bought them I assumed they would be good forever, since I have been to other places and they have never expired. I went in recently and they could not find my name in the system. I thought it was weird considering I had only used 5 of my 15 tans. They told me that my tans had expired. I was shocked.l I had 10 more tans left and was never told they would expire. Talk about POOR CUSTOMER SERVICE. They told me they could give me a really good deal though. I laughed... They said they could not extend the expiration date. I have a degree in hospitality and this is not how you treat customers. Especially very upset customers who were never told that the tans would expire. I left this place very unhappy and will never return. They lost a customer and I hope you will not go here either. Save your money go to a tanning salon that cares. read more

Overall, this tanning franchise lacks customer service skills. I spent $600 on a tanning package for preparation for a wedding and trip to Mexico. Since I work and live quite a distance apart, I have visited 4 different locations and the only one that I found that was a great location was the one Burien/Normandy Park. I found that most locations try to push products on you every time you visit. By far the worst one was Puyallup Sunrise location. After being upset that I didn't want to purchase tanning lotion, the girl assisting me with my tanning bed told me that "If I didn't get it right the first time with timer that I was out of luck and she wasn't going to reset it for me". What? I bought a premimum package and spent $$$ and I am being spoken to like a child? That was ridiculous and insulting. I walked into the Federal Way office and they said they had no appointments available for the next several days and the chances of a walk in there were slim. Never went back. Auburn North; they were the most aggressive at this salon trying to advise to me buy product. After refusing, I was treated with a haughty attitude. Needless to say, I will never buy another tanning package at this franchise. I gave it two stars because of the Normandy Park location. read more

For as much as I pay a month to tan here I should be treated better. I never had a problem before tonight. I came in with a friend to tan, and a tanned skin girl with black brown curly hair was unbelievably rude. I didn't know you could only tan once a day and I get that, bit the attitude she gave me was unbelievable. I asked her how long of a rule that was because I thought I've tanned more than once before, and she rolled her eyes and gave a laugh saying for always. Then my friend came back and told her the room was not cleaned, and she again gave the rudest look and tried to argue with my friend qether its clean or not. Are you serious? And here I sit in the waiting room and this girl is talking on the phone at the desk with her boyfriend. Get some nicier people, or I'm not visiting this location, or at least not when this girl is working. read more

One star but I wish I could have them a 0. Shocked at the experience I had today. I have been going to desert sun for years. I get a spray tan every week. Today I walked in and asked for my usual. Went back and noticed that there was an error on the screen. I told the worker, hannah, and she went back and fixed it. I went in and got in position one and as the level was spraying down my body, I realized it was blowing air until it hit past my shoulders . So my shoulders and face were completely untouched. It wasn't until the 3rd position that the spray was fully working. So at this point I have 1/4th of my body untouched and the rest sprayed. I am frustrated at this point because I am about to look like a clown before going out tonight. Anyways I went to tell the lady, and she gave me huge attitude. Basically stating she didn't believe me. I said look I just want to get another spray right now because I don't want to have a partially completed spray. And she said too bad. You don't have a membership so we aren't going to fix it for you. I left and was extremely frustrated. I had my mother, who is also an attorney, go in and ask her to simply respray me since the machine was not working correctly when I used it. She said no way. It will come out of my commission. Seriously?! I can't believe the level of disregard I saw. So disappointed that a place I have been a loyal customer to for years would be like this. Don't come here. read more

This desert sun is conveniently right next my home! Which I love. The girls at this location are nice. They are pretty laid back which is refreshing, I don't feel like they are pushing anything on me and they seem to know the right time to ask me if I need to re up on sprays or red light lotions. Love love love the red light, it has made my stretch marks disappear. Only complaint is that the red light bed needs to be fixed because its hard to open and closes on you once you crawl in. My last review of this establishment was removed because it "lacked" PERSONAL experience? (Probably an employee flagged it) Well here is my PERSONAL experience with Desert Sun Federal Way.... I had been a member of Desert Sun for a while but decided that I was spending way too much money for not tanning as often as others and wanted to look into prepaid tans. Their prices were OUTRAGEOUS so I shopped around and found a better price. That's not why this review is bad though.....there's more. After finding a better tanning place, I go to Desert Sun to cancel my membership. First, the girl there could not find any cancellation forms and said the manager would be coming in about an hour. I had to go to work so I couldn't stick around or come back. Turns out my schedule did not work with them....whatever. So she said that the manager would give me a call to talk to me about why I wanted to cancel my membership, etc. I told her the manager needed to call me around 2:30pm because that was my lunch. The manager called at 1:30 which I did not answer because I was at work. I called her back and gave her the reasons of why I was cancel ling and there was no "bad blood" and thanks for calling me, etc. She said she would process the cancellation right away before the 25th of the month so I would not be charged again. I look at my bank account a few weeks later and I was charged for another month's membership! I called back and the manager acted like she never even talked to me and said I was supposed to fill out a cancellation form which they couldn't find when I went there. At that point, I did not want to get charged again for something I wasn't using so I sent a letter to Desert Sun's corporate office as well as the branch in Federal Way with a screen shot from my iPhone showing the conversation I had with the manager that had lasted over 3 minutes proving I talked to her. I haven't been charged since. I don't think all of this run-around was necessary just to cancel a membership. My second issue with this branch of Desert Sun was that they did not have an adequate number of beds so all beds were "appointment only" but they hardly ever had beds open even if you called the day before you wanted the appointment. I ended up going to other locations which were farther away defeating the purpose of signing up with the location nearest from my house? Just overall attitude from the staff made my visits there un-pleasant. How's that for PERSONAL, Yelp? read more

Love desert sun- but this staff blows! I will never be back to this location- I'm a regular at this location for spray tans. The last time I went in the girl behind the counter just wanted to socialize with her friend and was not interested in customer service. She listed off all their "deals" which didn't interest me because they were all starting high for a spray tan. So I walked out of the store and desperately pulled up a coupon from their website. She didn't even ask my name, (never seen her before) pretended to look at the computer and told me I used that coupon already. Totally cut me short to get back to her conversation. There from now on I go to Seattle Tan, even though it's not by my house, i have no problem driving a few extra miles for friendly helpful employees!!! If you want to just purchase one tan prior to an event or something then this place is not bad. Customer service is decent and most of the beds are ok bulb wise. However, if you're looking to purchase a big package I recommend waiting until they have super specials because regular prices are expensive especially when you have to also pay membership fees in comparison to some of the other chains out there. You can usually get a lotion at a discount as well. What I do like about this location is that when they try to up sell and you tell them no once, they don't badger you continuously, which I appreciate unlike a few other places. The nice thing about DS is that you can tan at more than one location. read more

I've been a customer of Desert Sun for years & have found as a whole, customer service is pretty good, except a few locations. Federal Way's location always seems to have some of the best service from it's employees. The other day I went in to tan and had an issue come up on one of membership accounts, and Mary, who was working at the front desk was so helpful and took care of the situation quickly. Furthermore, Mary went out of her way to help me and to make sure I was satisfied. She also told me about a tanning bed I had never tried, nor been suggested until my latest visit & conversation with her. I was very happy with the tanning results from her suggestion. Another thing I really appreciated was her upbeat, cheerful & outgoing attitude. Desert Sun is lucky to have such a great employee. It makes me want to visit this location more than any other because the type of service I receive there. :) read more

I got a room right away - I had mentioned I had a headache all day long and had forgotten to grab a coffee for the drive home (caffeine addict). I went in for my tan and came back out to get which room number for the spray and guess what?! - Mary had a coffee from STARBUCKS waiting for me on the counter :D she went above and beyond to make sure her customers are just not looking great but feeling amazing after the tanning visit!!!!!!!!!!!!! & yes, the headache went away and I definitely had a better day! I called before leaving work (I never leave work on time on most evenings) and Mary B picked up the phone - she scheduled my appointment to 730 for a spray and medium bed. I ended up getting to the salon at 7 instead and mentioned I can wait for my appointment but instead, she got me in for the medium bed and spray! I came out of the room after my tan in my robe to ask which room for the spray - I then mentioned to her my migraine because I forgot to grab a coffee from work (being addicted to caffeine creates migraines!) and she asked 'what kind of coffee', I responded 'I drink my coffee black' - she was shocked lol she asked 'drip?' and I nodded lol. Long story short - I went to spray and came out to the front telling the girls 'Im so tan!' and there sitting on the front desk was a DRIP COFFEE FROM STARBUCKS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I work in customer service and this was BEYOND anything I hvae ever experienced! Mary B just didnt go out of her way to make sure I didnt have to wait 30 mins to tan but she went out of her 'job description' to make her customer comfortable and satisfied. I did not expect this. at. all. I am speechless. She is the definition of 'customer service'!
