Was there for a 3 day get away, showed up they didn't tell us they didn't have TV. It was deactivated, walked into the 400 and some dollar room a night which was ocean view balcony smelled of mold and mildew, dirt all over the floor , the couch. Was stained nasty , I had to cover sheets on it was disgusting. I had to replace the toilet paper roll that was gross. The holder was filthy. I don't think it's been touched since the hotel was built dirt dust in the corners just pile of dirt. We left a day early. He showed up on a Thursday and left on Saturday we had to get out do not rent this place. Use an extreme caution. It's a dump... I couldn't breathe in that room from the mold in the mildew smell. Sinuses have been so messed up since I got home. Do not rent this place. Take my advice look somewhere else. read more

Checked in, had decent rates for a beachside motel. Happy so far. Got to the room and it has a wall-mounted thermostat for a typical hotel under-the-window AC unit. OK with that. Not ideal, but OK. Unit will not operate if the door is open. OK. Unit keeps the room at 75F if it is not occupied. Ummm. This apparently means someone has to move, regularly to keep the AC going. Even with that, you can see from the picture that it did not work very well. 45 minutes in the room and the temp was 76F. Now 2+ hours in the room and it is at 74. The AC runs for a few minutes and switches off for much longer. Move and it comes back on. 75 is simply too hot for me. I have problems sleeping at that temp. If I have to get up every 15 minutes during the night, I will not be happy Looking around the room, mold on the ceiling, see photo. Really? I travel a good bit (travel writer among other things). So, when we booked our stay at the DeSoto Hotel we had high hopes for a great trip. While we had a decent (perpendicular) view of the beach, we had a better view of the parking lot below. The room was the worst I've ever had (anywhere in the world), with the 2nd worst being in Vegas (where the carpet s moved when the lights went out). We were greeted by the smell of mildew and a broken light switch, before wondering if we'd made a mistake. Luggage stayed on top of the bureau and writing table, because the cupboard and drawers were too filthy to add our things. The bathroom was beyond disgusting, and after we nearly fell into the toilet three times, due to the loose seat, we realized we were slipping into someone else's filth. On further inspection, it was clear that this toilet had not been cleaned before our arrival. Nor had the shower or floors. One of us dropped a harpin and reached down to grab it and got a handful of someone else's hair! The only thing that was clean were the sheets on the comfortable beds. We called the front office for help with a plugged drain in the shower and asked for a clean shower curtain. We got someone to our room on the double to fix the clog but got the drain cover replaced and no shower curtain. And can I add here....how can you have a beach hotel with a towel rack for two towels only, hanging over the dirty toilet, in a bathroom with no fan? It just doesn't make sense. Breakfast wasn't great and the shower was clogged on the morning we checked out, so my sister drove back to North Carolina without a shower, and I went to the airport to find something healthy. Overall, my hope is that this was a one-off occurrence, but since the cleaning personnel are men, it makes me wonder if others have the same experience. I left a list of things that need tended to in our room, so the next guest doesn't have the same experience, and when I was asked if we enjoyed our stay, I simply said we were grateful for the comfortable beds. read more

So heartbroken... Selected this hotel based on a few gorgeous deceiving pictures off of hotels.com.... when we arrived the ocean view room that we were given was actually a dumpster view with a sliver of ocean in the background. The hotel front desk was very polite and kind and did her best to see if there was any way she can accommodate moving us to another property or another room but unfortunately there was no availability. It is what it is and unfortunately we are stuck but this is not what we were expecting. They provide only 2 towels to use for the shower, they do not provide towels for pool or beach for you will need to bring your own. Also, they do not offer complementary umbrellas and loungers as advertised, they charge $29 per person. read more

An amazing hotel with an awesome view. went for Mother's day weekend. the hotel and surrounding areas were fantastic. but a few customer service situations did arise. first when we arrived our television wouldn't turn on. we decided to head to the beach and worry about the tv later. a young man from maintenance came but didn't resolve the issue. moments later, around 10p, there was a total black out.. we only knew about what was going on thru google. no one from the hotel even bothered to check to see if the guests were ok. a young lady, Lacey, finally did come, the next day, take the box from the tv and bring another one and got the tv on. so we appreciate her. secondly, the lady at the front desk, Valerie, is not a people person. she had an attitude the entire stay. we wanted a late check out on Sunday. We had just heard her give a family an extended time of 12 noon. we approach the desk and she tells us the latest we can stay is 11:30a, totally not fair. Eventually we extend our stay by one day, no thanks to Valerie. A different manager had to step in. The next day, Monday morning, as I am getting coffee, I over hear Valerie saying to a fellow employee, very loudly, that she had rude customers all weekend and if someone says anything to her today, she was clocking out and going home. She shouldn't be at a customer service desk with that mindset. People had been in the dark for 6 hours and had no update, of course some people, who are paying customers would be upset. but as the front desk clerk, she should've had more patience and understanding. All in all the trio was good, the hotel was nice and I would like to stay again. but if Valerie or anyone who thinks as her is at the front desk, I will take my hard earned money some place else. I believe communication is key. we didn't want anything for free or given to us, but making sure your customer is satisfied with their stay should be top priority. I'm only giving a 3 star b/c of Valerie. She didn't even write our complaints about the tv in her log book and finally did as we weee standing at the desk. read more

Beware of room 101! Premiere king with ocean view! More like a closet right next to the elevator and an extension of their lobby and breakfast area! We went down to Tybee for a quick birthday get away and was given a room that NO ONE should have to stay in. We paid 160 for this closet. We asked the front desk about moving rooms as we were there for an hour and heard EVERY work spoken in the lobby because this room is attached their lobby and breakfast area. The "ocean view" was more of the parking lot with a spec of sand. The front desk was SO RUDE telling that where ever I booked my room from should have told me it would a closet. He did not give us another room he told us that we had to pay an additional 100 for an upgrade which to find was another closet right next to the room we were given. At 5pm i had to book another room elsewhere without a refund apology or anythibg from DeSoto. I called this morning to discuss the matter with the General Manager who cut me off and rudely told me this was my opinion and they NEVER have complaints on this room. Again, i find that extetemly hard to believe. I will say there was a refund given but that is not the point. It was the most terrible experience. Good luck if you choose to stay here! read more

Super nice staff. We checked in at 9am....very early. We were able to go do some sightseeing and the staff called and let us know when our room was ready. This is a very nice hotel. This star is for the location and proximity to the beach. We stayed in Rm 110. Here's why the the hotel doesn't get 5 stars: 1. Motion sensitive AC. I get that they want to save a buck but what they end up doing is making customers sleepless therefore miserable, and that makes for a lousy experience. 2. Not all bedside outlets received cords. Why, we can't tell. Frustrating for the person in our party who uses a medical device that requires an outlet. 3. The water pressure in the shower was the worst I've ever experienced. We never felt clean. It felt like sunscreen and salt clung to every pore no matter how much soap we used. the shower dripped when it was off. had to lay it down or the dripping would have made us crazy. It stopped eventually and we'd hang it back up. If one of the pleasures of a hotel for you is an amazing shower experience, swerve. 4. Don't be fooled. by the idea of a "shared balcony." It's a walkway outside your room. And nearly every other room. 5. The room smelled musty. 6. The breakfast was only ultra-processed things in packages. 7. The wifi was intermittent. It would just drop off after 5 minutes and you wouldn't even notice it. Never a consistent full fan of strength. Not even over taxing it... just browsing Instagram... Drumroll for 8... The utter waste of money. We stayed here for our 29th anniversary. Splurged 300/ night on what we believed would be an amazing beach stay experience. It wasn't. Find another place to stay. read more

The online presentation was good. It set you up to have high expectations. I was not impressed. Customer service was good but the rooms seem really old. The first room had a sour smell and we moved to another room that smelled a lot better. The door to the room would not securely close and housekeeping did not secure after cleaning. I can't say enough how much you should avoid this establishment. I called to have a sink that was clogged with black soot looking stuff unclogged. I left for dinner and someone came. They unclogged but didn't clean the sink. I then noticed my apple AirPods missing. I had an address in Savannah it was pinging at. I gave this info to hotel and filed a police report. The "manager" at Desoto was unwilling to help at all. It wasn't his responsibility it seems. He would not say anything except he that he gave information to the police. That's it. When asked if they would get them back or replace he said it's not his responsibility. This is how they feel about their patrons - and harboring criminal employees. The purpose of this trip, it was my birthday(9/12). When we arrived to check in(9/11) to Suite 3 at Georgianne Inn, I was told that I booked Suite2! I said to the lady at the front desk, Susan, no I booked suite 3. She proceeded to say that the people who were supposed to check out of Suite 3 on 9/11 decided to extend their stay another night, but we booked that room 2 MONTHS in advance(July 17th) What should have happened is the people in 3 should have been moved over to 2 for their"extended stay" , because we had RESERVATIONS BOOKED to stay in Suite 3. They should have been told that someone was checking into 3 and they will need to be moved to Suite 2. We purposely booked this suite(3) because I wanted to stay in that room for my birthday. We've stayed here multiple times and this Suite is our favorite one. I was told by Susan that Suite 2 was exactly like 3. To our MAJOR disappointment when we got inside the room it was no where NEAR as big or nice and clean as Suite 3. When we called to complain and that they need to move the people in Suite 3, Susan said the manager made the decision and to take it up with them. It was like we were such an inconvenience to her, even though we're the paying customers here! To add insult to injury she hung up in my fiancés face. Never have we ever been so disrespected by any hotel. I mean she blatantly hung up on him, no warning. I shortly received a call from Travis who was POLITE and courteous! He offered to give us half off the first night and then have us moved over to 3 for second night of our stay. He ALSO said he was the manager that he definitely did not make that decision to move us to Suite 2. That confirmed to us that Susan flat out lied when she said the manager made the decision. He even goes onto say he didn't understand why they didn't make the people go to Suite 2! The next day Monday (9/12-My birthday!) The cleaning kid shows up with an attitude already because he had to clean the room we were in, in addition to Suite 3. As if it were our fault that he had to do his job. God forbid. It was like we were an inconvenience. He was so nasty & rude that I told him to just forget about it because I'm obviously an inconvenience to him and making his job so hard. We also asked him for extra paper towels because we barely had any when we got there on the first day(Sunday). He never brought them to us so we had no paper towels to use for the rest of our stay. It felt like we were a bother to them. My fiancé and I have stayed at this property tons of times and have never been treated so poorly and unfairly. It was my birthday so this trip was booked in my name. If you look up my fiancé 's name (Nick Lembcke) you'll see where he's booked Georgianne Inn for us MULTIPLE times . Sadly enough this was our last time at this property and I'm spreading the word to everyone I know to warn them. I'm even filing a BBB complaint against them as well, because otherwise they'll continue to do this to other people and treat them terribly, and continue to get away with it!!!Susan and the cleaning kid needs SERIOUS Customer service training. If you're not happy where you are then go find another line of work. They're both in the wrong line of business. Customer service and hospitalilty industry go hand & hand. Customers are the ones who keep the lights on. I will never ever recommend the Georgianne Inn to anyone again, because I don't want them to have to go through what we went through.... AGAIN this was for my birthday & I cried for a minute but I refused to let it get me down. However every time we walked back in the room I would get upset all over again. We were at the second floor. At 11pm we noticed a cockroach walking down the wall next to the TV. The room was a little dirty. We also feel we disturbe them if we talk to them, like a family-operated business that doesnt care about customers. The pictures are way out-dated. They show pictures of the first building and the second building looks like a project (elevator, etc). Initial impressions were nerve- racking with the limited parking at the actual building, service at the desk was amazing, the staff was informative and friendly with our questions. The quick access to the beach was the best part, max a 2 minute walk to put your feet in the ocean. The rooms were very clean, and even smelled sanitised when we opened the door. Horrible! Don't stay there. We stayed there in a suite for 5 days and had more problems that I can count. Both safes were broken (1was fixed), the fan was broken( got fixed), the toilet seat was broken( got fixed), toilet leaked on the floor (tried to fix and still leaked the entire time), shower sprayed everywhere (kinda got fixed). We received a call from the front desk stating that there was a snake skin outside of our door and we had a pet snake with us out by the pool lol (not sure how that's possible because we flew in from Boston lol). Also there was maybe 4 ppl in total at the pool with us the entire time and we talked to them so clearly this was a prank call. All 4 of us had headaches, runny noses and a cough the entire time so the last day I took a really close lol at the room and I will attach the pictures below of what I found. At check out I told the front desk about the mold and dust in the room and showed them the pictures and all they did was tell me the $57 balance I owed they would void it. I typically would never take the time to write a review but since the front desk didn't give a you know what I had no choice. read more

This place was fine. Not good fine, not bad fine...just fine. We were there in mid-April so not super busy, but can imagine it gets loud pretty quick if people are out on their balcony all night. The room was fine - nothing great or luxurious, and could use some standard maintenance at the minimum. Little things could be fixed - an example was the hot water handle on the sink turned backwards so it always hit the backsplash...pretty hilarious...there were quite a few little things like that that worked fine but made me giggle. Staff was friendly. Was disappointed that they do not have beach towels for you to use...considering they are very proud of the fact that they are Tybee Island's "only beachfront hotel" it's weird they don't provide them for you. They will sell you a towel for $10, though. They also had a pool table, bumper pool table, and foosball table but for a fee (in quarters, no change machine)...maybe when it is busy the fee keeps kids from destroying/hogging the games, but seemed rather odd to me they wouldn't just let you use these things for free. Location is (guess what?) fine, we walked to a bunch of different restaurants/bars and along the beach. The wi-fi worked, but had to log in every single time I needed it as it is not set up to save the login/password - it's vacation so not a huge deal, but when you want to use the interwebs it'd be nice for it not to be a hassle. We really did enjoy our stay, mainly because we are laid back, but to reiterate: this place is fine. Nothing more. read more

We stayed at the deasoto hotel on tybee island on weekday. We used Expedia to book this room. The price was decent. And we were on the beach. The rooms seem to be clean. First the hotel is no closer to the beach than any other. So we go to sleep and wake up early to see the sun rise. I notice there is a spot of blood on sheet. I look under the pillow several bed bugs crawling back to there lair. So my wife and I take everything out of the room. Go to the front desk to find out that room was supposed to be closed for bed bugs and they rented anyways. They said they where going to refund our money but nothing else nothing for our inconvenience. And because jt went it through Expedia the hotel could not refund our money directly. Pros: on the beach, potential for some awesome views (we had a partial ocean view), room was clean, bed was big and comfy, nice staff. Cons: check in isn't until 4pm which I think is obscene - there's no way there weren't rooms ready when we arrived at the hotel earlier, older building, continental breakfast isn't much of anything. I booked the ocean view room (note: this is not ocean front). I read some of the reviews of this place on another website, which warned that ocean view is not the same as ocean front. This was a good warning. The ocean view room really wasn't worth the money since the rooms sit so far back from the beach. You see a parking lot and a pool before you see the beach and the ocean. At night, you can't see the beach or ocean at all from your room. After reading the reviews on this place, I still decided to risk staying at this place because I was trying to find a room last minute and I didn't have many options. I had read not to stay on the first floor ocean view rooms because of noise, so I called ahead and asked for a room on the third floor. However, when we checked in, they put us in a room on the first floor, which not only had to be accessed directly from the lobby but also shared a balcony with another room. The door to the room was right by the breakfast area, brochure stand, and check in. There were several other rooms with similar access, with the worst being a room with the door right next to the elevator. We asked that we be switched to a room on another floor, which they did. However, once we got into this second floor room, we realized the air conditioner didn't work, so maintenance had to come fix it. In all, it was a bit of a rough start to our stay here, but once we got settled in, everything was OK. I won't be staying here again, but it was OK for a night. read more

This is the nastiest hotel I have ever been to in my 40 years of life. We paid extra to have a king room with an ocean view and it was such a joke. The first thing I do is check the bed when I get into a room and the bed was made with dirty sheets. The sheets smelled like the last people and had hair and crumbs and stains from whoever was in there last. We stripped the sheets and asked for a new set to make the bed ourselves since it was late already. We did get a new set of sheets that smelled clean, but it went down from there. I walk into the bathroom and asked my husband if he used it before me. He said no. There was still urine in the toilet from the last guest. There was also a dead bug stuck to the back of the door. Also around the bottom of the toilet it looked like black mold. I was so disgusted at this place and the price they were charging (over 300 a night). We ended up leaving and going to another hotel down the road. It was my first time ever in tybee island and it left a terrible taste. I would never ever tell anyone to stay at this hotel. I would not recommend this hotel to ANYONE, ever. I had a booking through Expedia with this hotel...one that had been set over a month before I was to stay there. Due to an issue that was beyond my control (CC fraud), when the hotel attempted to run my card BEFORE the date of my stay, it was declined. I was subsequently sent an email letting me know and asking me to call to retain my booking. I called the hotel and explained the situation to Regina, the lady that answered the phone. She seemed very pleasant at first, asking for my name to look me up. I was on my cell phone at the time, away from home. She could not find my booking at all, which was weird, considering it had been made a month in advance. She asked for my confirmation number, which I did not have right in front of me. I told her it was in my email and that I needed just a second to get it off my phone. While I was looking for the number, she hung up on me. I thought, no big deal, I'll just keep looking and call her back when I get it. I worked customer service and remember that the customers that are there in person sometimes come first. I personally would have asked to put the person on hold while they looked for the number, but that's me. Once I found the confirmation number, I called the hotel back. They found me this time but informed me that they could not hold the room because my card had been declined. I explained that the card issue was out of my control and asked what else we could do since, on Expedia, I had checked that I would pay when we got to the hotel, so they shouldn't have even been running my card. They informed me that they could not hold the room without a good card. My debit card is the only card I have, so she told me they would cancel my reservation. While I was trying to figure something out, Regina hung up on me AGAIN. This time, I called back and asked to speak to a manager. The manager came on the phone, offered his token apology for the inconvenience (I could hear/feel the eyeroll through the phone), and offered no alternative. He then hung up on me too! If this is the attitude of those that work at the hotel, then I won't be staying there. I would recommend finding another hotel to spend your hard earned dollars on. read more

Super over-priced for what is offered, average air conditioner, beds, old carpet. The door to the beach was held in place with a screwdriver, A SCREWDRIVER. The facilities include a billiard table and a arcade vintage unit, I think it was Pac Man or Galaga for a change... Its depressing, feels over populated, all kinds of random people stay at this place, look ahead. The cigarette smell is terrible, mixed non-smoking with smoking rooms standing a few feet away. Your room can be non-smoking, and sit outside enjoying the beach, and right beside you on the balcony near you, someone is smoking! The hotel is right at the front of the beach, they take advantage of the location and try to squeeze every plenty out of you without no thought to remodeling the facilities. I lost my wedding ring and called a few times to verify, and all I would get was a five second "can you please hold" and then say no, we have not seen your wedding ring and then hang up. It is expected to at LEAST take my name and number and ask a few questions on how does it look, when did I lost it, where and when did I saw it for the last time, etc. Super rude attitude for a hotel that wants to display the chill laid back style. No, I would not stay at this hotel again, costs about 150 per day, and feels like a Motel 6. read more

Then later about 4 am found out the have plumbing issues where ever thing comes back up the sink and leave dirt and whatere ever esle is in the pipes back up.there was poop on the wall and holes in the wall by toilet. Right when we got there we're given a room on the third floor and there was an awful noise coming from the bathroom ceiling. It sounded like popcorn, very loud you could hear it from the rest of the room. Two of the house keeping ladies were absolutely disrespectful. check out isn't until 11 am. At around 10:10 am we were getting ready and heard knocking and them trying to enter, all while the do not disturbed sign was on the door. I didn't get to answer the door that time, because I wasn't dressed yet. Five minutes later she came back, I opened it and said "check out is at 11 correct?" she said yes so I closed the door. You could hear them talking about how we should be gone already. she went to get another lady to knock and she was being absolutely disrespectful and called me a racial slur in the process of trying to force us out of the room at at least 30 min before check out time. Well Tybee Island is an exactly known for their five star motel/hotel is this place is fine not the worst I've ever stayed in but definitely not the best... very convenient near the beach the staff was friendly other reviewer stated they were not but you had a good experience the pool was a bit small but wasn't crowded at all continental breakfast about what you would expect muffins frozen waffles etc. coffee was great!! read more
