    Mildew/mold in shower

My wife and I had high hopes based on the previous reviews and the photos. Those hopes were immediately dashed when we walked into the unit and were nearly knocked over by the stench of urine. Or to put it more accurately the smell of trying to cover up the smell of urine from the pets of previous guests. We also found the shower to be moldy. We messaged the host about these two issues and she sent a cleaner over the next day. We cleared out with our small dog while they, in the words of the host "swept the floor" and "bleached" the shower. By "swept," I'm not sure if they mean they mopped but it did not look like it or smell like it. The cleaner told the host she did not smell anything except my wife's perfume that was sprayed around in hopes to cover the stench. Being that this was July 4th weekend and we did not have any other options we tried to make the best of things by continuing to spray perfume to cover the smell and stay out of the room as much as possible. When the host messaged us that the cleaners were there, our only response was thanks, because at that point what difference did it make, there was no way that smell was going to be removed by a broom. By the third day we started to become annoyed by other small things that would not have normally gotten our nerves if it had not been for the sanitary conditions mentioned above; doors that had to be pulled just right to close and lock, broken shower door, water stained shower head, broken patio chair on private patio, electrical sockets hanging out of the wall, and a smoke alarm that looked to be ripped apart with wires hanging out of it and no battery in it. And in addition to smell of urine, there was a persistent mildew smell. The owners only excuse for such a run down place was that "it is old". This is no reason to have so many cosmetic issues. The pictures posted on AirBnB DO NOT in any way represent the mess you will walk into. By the fourth day, we could not take the urine smells, mildew and general grossness of the place anymore and decided to cut our trip early by two days and return home. After all the taxes and fees, this place comes out to a little over $300 a night. I did not expect the place to be the Ritz but I at the very least expected it to be clean and sanitary. This place is neither. The sad thing is, it has the potential to be a nice spot if the owner would only put a little effort into maintaining it. With the money we paid for one week, they could have fixed the smoke alarm and the broken wall sockets in one afternoon, but instead they false advertise with photos that do not represent this place at all. If the rate was 1/3 of what I paid for this dump I would not complain because that is what you get for the money. To top it off the owner accused us of being somehow vengeful or retaliatory when we let her know we were planning on posting a truthful review. She went on to seemingly try and guilt trip us into feeling bad for sharing these unacceptable conditions with future guests. We only wanted a safe and sanitary place to spend our hard earned money. We hope no one else falls into the same trap we did.

The place is wonderful. Comfortable, great views, amenities. It was off-season (we like fewer crowds) so not a lot going on, just peaceful and quiet. Staff has gone way above and beyond to help rectify an error on our part. I could not be more thankful!

After staying here almost every year for the past 15 years, my family has enjoyed many great…read morememories. However, the condos are now more run-down, and there are a couple problems that should be addressed. First, the fact that smoking is still permitted on the balconies is ridiculous. Secondhand smoke, as we all know, is toxic and immediately harmful. The beach view is the key feature to this place, and everyone should be able to sit on the patio to enjoy it without the smell of cigarette smoke. This year I brought a floor fan to put on the patio with me, but it did not prevent the smell of smoke. There is no safe level of breathing secondhand smoke whether you are indoors or out. Smoking needs banned on the patios. The second issue is with the mildew smell of the air vents. The first two days this week, all I could smell is fresh laundry. Apparently, there are dryer sheets on the air filters, which is loaded with toxic chemicals btw. However, the rest of the week, it smelled strongly of mildew every time the AC kicked on. That could be a serious issue for those with asthma or mold allergies. Third, the kitchen could definitely use an update, specifically the scratched nonstick cooking pans, which are toxic (you knew that was coming). Those need replaced with new ceramic pans. And one last note - I find it absolutely ironic that I witnessed the maintenance man threatening a lady in the pool that he would call the health department and have her kicked out because she removed the rope that separates deep/shallow ends. Yes, call the health department, please, and ask them about all the issues I listed as well. Folks, overall this is a decent place to stay with perks like the beach view, free coffee, and an easy walk to the pool. However, be aware of the negatives that could potentially harm your well-being. We go on vacation to relax and de-stress, not come home with lung cancer. Seriously.

You could tell how much thought and effort went in to presentation, flavor and diversity. I loved the peach cream baked french toast so much I had to look up similar recipes so I can make it at home. There were always cold drinks in the mini fridge, ice in the cooler, water in a pitcher, snacks in a bowl and best of all something homemade every day. I can't decide if my favorite was the rocky road bars, or this chocolate peanut buttery rice crispy like dessert. We stayed in both the Sunrise Suite and the Starfish room because neither were available for all five days. Both are fantastic! Hot roomy showers, oh so comfy robes, soft sheets and towels, mattresses that were not too soft nor too hard, perfectly painted, and well chosen decor. The house has a covered porch on three sides so there are loungers in both the shade and in the sun by the pool. My favorite spot was the swing. The beach is a five minute walk away, not crowded at all, and made for long walks. I love to travel and try new places, but Surf Song on Tybee is a place I will look forward to returning to in the years to come. I wished we lived closer so we could visit several times a year.

It was rainy and cold all weekend but we didn't mind honestly because the room was so wonderful and cozy! There were indoor cushioned swings to lounge in, complimentary robes, and the linens were to die for. It was so quiet it felt like we were the only ones there, and we had the absolute best view! Breakfast was fantastic and we enjoyed chatting with the owner, as she was super attentive, warm, and friendly. We enjoyed a cup of coffee on the porch swing before heading out for a walk on a the beach once the rain had cleared. We will absolutely be back to Surf Song for another stay in the near future! We cannot recommend it enough!

We reserved Suite #5 for one night. The room was freezing and there was a horrible smell (I thought it was sewer gas and usually running water solves that- it didn't). We had the heat cranked as high as we could to warm up, but had to have the windows open due to the smell- not a good situation. They offer a variety of rooms studio, 1,2 & 3 bedroom options. Plenty of free parking available. You do have to check in at a different location, it is not far away, but it is a hassle. My biggest regret is that we didn't check out immediately and find a new place.

However, the beds were comfortable with large assortment of pillows. Nicely furnished with cute furniture. Large bathroom with walk in shower. Note: You have to go to the Desota Inn to check in and out. There is no office at this location!
