They did check my ID, had me fill out paperwork and even had a part on the form to request having conversations or not with your artist during the tattoo session. The piercing itself was done well, but I was disappointed by the pricing. I was told the only additional cost would be the earrings I selected, which were marked at $20. At checkout, I was charged $35 for them. When I asked about the discrepancy, the piercer insisted the earrings were more expensive, despite the posted price. I was looking to get the Industrial to commemorate a special time in my life. I currently have 18 piercings all performed by my piercer back home in California. I had a cartilage piercing that I received out of state. It was infected and throbbing. Mike was incredibly gentle cleaning it and taking it out. Went in for a jewelry change and was not asked a single question about my piercing. I had just recently gotten the piercing from a different studio and was looking to get a shorter back. Not only was there little conversation during the piercing change itself, the piercer was also shaky and aggressive with my ear that I was on the verge of tears the entire time. I have a relatively high pain tolerance, but this experience left me in so much pain and irritation that I cried most of the way home. While Mike and Lily were very kind on arrival and departure, I would have appreciated more questions about the piercing itself, a few words of encouragement during the jewelry change, and gentler hands throughout the entire process. Pierced through the cartilage in my nose WAY too high!! I got my septum pierced here and the woman was very sweet but she used clamps and then pierced it wayy too high! I heard a crunch when it went through and it was extremely painful. In the moment I had no idea it wasn't supposed to feel like that so I payed and left. Over the next few days it was excruciating it would bleed every single time I cleaned it and was being pulled because it was so high up the jewelry was caught in the part in the middle of my nose any time so any time I moved my face including chewing or anything it yanked the piercing causing it to bleed more! It was so high up you could barely see it. It was also crooked and wouldnt move it was so swollen! I decided to go to another piercer to see what they said. When I got there he immediately removed it and told me it was definitely pierced through the cartilage and that if I wanted to keep it, it would take forever to heal. I obviously took it out and let it heal but I'm just really upset I wasted $80 on a piercing that wasn't done correctly!! Mike is the worst piercer i've ever gone to. Not only is he unprofessional but is also has shown a lack of knowledge and disregard for his work. I went to get my tragus pierced and was pierced way off centered and it did not align with my tragus on my other ear when i specifically asked for them to be even. He did not check for the "sweet spot" like the piercer did for my other tragus piercing, did not feel it, just simply marked a dot and stuck a needle through which hurt more than my nipple and septum piercings. I let him know how badly uneven it was and he said to come back two weeks later for a redo. As hesitant as i was i came back for the redo and was told i needed an appointment and to come back tomorrow (he said i could do a walk in after he pierced me the first time). Came back the next day at 4:00 on the dot like he said and was taking a walk in as I arrived and completely forgot my appointment. He pierced my tragus again which hurt like hell, was extremely rough with inserting and tightening to jewelry (he was visibly irritated). I showed no irritation or animosity toward him to act that way. Two days later I go into another shop and get told that my tragus need time to heal as the tragus and concha of my ear are extremely swollen due to the trauma and short bar he put - giving zero room for swelling. I'm extremely pissed off that I have to deal with this and have wasted almost $100 on a piercing I should've just gotten with the last piercer that did my other side. Save your money and go elsewhere this man clearly does not care about the quality or care for his clients. read more

I've been to other tattoo shops in the Portland area as well as Los Angeles. Destination Ink was by far the nicest group of guys, extremely lax and helpful when it came to my last-minute tattoo appointment. Most importantly, the shop was clean and professional. Normally, they are pretty booked so my drop-in was unusual. However, I appreciated that one of the staff allowed me to come in right before his own tattoo sesh. I got 3 small black tattoos, where two were 1" x 2" latin words and the third was a symbol about 1" x 1". The price was $80, which is very reasonable. The wait was about 20 minutes and the session itself was about another 20-25 minutes, so I was in-and-out in about an hour. My artist was James, who is the sweetest guy and easy to talk to. He's also a perfectionist, which is ideal when getting something permanent done to your body. I highly recommend him! I recommend the whole place and would come back again. read more

I have had many enjoyable experiences in this tattoo shop! Nik has done two of my tattoos and we already have plans for the next two. he isn't only like an amazing amazing artist his work you can look at it.. it speaks for itself. but the actual sitting in the chair experience is wonderful! he talks and laughs with me and makes getting a tattoo actually near painless because he really makes me comfortable and takes my mind off the edge, they also let me choose music to listen to (: but probably because I have amazing taste in music! I actually live on the same street as a tattoo shop but I take an hour on the bus to their shop because they just rock at like "customer service" I can ask them questions and sound like an idiot and they don't even judge! woah!! Then there is Mike the body piercer there and he is really amazing he has done three of my piercings. my nipple, my vch and my tregus and nik even held my hand for my ear (: Mike is a really awesome guy he made me feel completely comfortable for having my legs spread wide open! so if you are really worried about awkwardness.. go to mike because you wont get that at all. also he did my second nipple piercings my first one was done at a different shop and just comparing the experience I wish I had gone to mike for both nipples because he had a different technique that seemed like the "right technique" haha! he even switched out my other jewelry so itd match my new one! that is just really fucking awfully sweet! my first time ever in the shop I was driving by and seen their sign and I made my boyfriend stop and take me in because I needed a new back to my Monroe stud and I didn't know what size it was or anything to I handed the gem over to mike and he clean the gem and found the right size for me! and I just thought it was really really nice :) I am a really really shy person so for me to be able to go into somewhere and not feel weird in a situation or shy about voicing my opinion (especially for a tattoo or piercing) means a great deal to me. I can't say enough great things about Destination Ink. A few days before my trip to visit my friend who lives in Forest Grove I decided that I wanted to finally get my nose pierced. She checked out yelp and saw that they had great reviews so we decided to go. I was super impressed with how professional looking the shop was. It was clean and bright with nice comfy chairs in the lobby. Mike is amazing. I was super nervous and he was so friendly and explained the whole process and answered any questions I had. He was very calm & patient. He really made me feel safe. It hurt a tiny bit, but every step of the way he told me exactly what was going on and it was over before I knew it! My friend came in with some ideas from Pinterest of a feather that she wanted to get behind her ear. Christina (tattoo artist) came back a little bit later with 3 drawings. Super impressive! A few days after I got my piercing it seemed like the jewel was sinking into my nose and it freaked me out and was worried because I live 2 1/2 hours away and it wasn't very easy to just drove back down there. I messaged Destination Ink through Facebook and got a response right away from Mike. He told me it was probably just swelling and to keep up the cleaning routine and keep in contact with him. I have to rave about Christina Hayes, a primo tattoo artist. I want a garden on my leg and wanted it in a 'watercolor' technique. Christina admitted that she hadn't ever done watercolor tattoo but I brought pictures of what I wanted to start with and it turned out beautifully. We just did a part of the piece that day and I came back when it was healed for another flower-a rose. Sadly my skin doesn't take yellow very well so were going to have to do that one over again..She has a lot of good ideas and is a natural artist-I'm sure she could make a living as a graphic artist if she wanted..I'm just glad she's in tattoos! I also wat a big back piece to cover a tattoo I received while on vacation..I'm hoping for a very cool owl..but have to finish the leg piece first!
