Now if you have never had NYC street cart food don't even bother commenting on this. Hubby and I go to nyc 2-3 times a year and eat plenty of gyros and street cart food. In Michigan I have tried just about every gyro I can and to be honest none of them are any good. They are blah in flavor and a bit tough. Detroit Eatery finally made a gyro that is NYC equality. The meat is spot on to cart eateries and flavor is fantastic. The meat is so tender it melts in your mouth. This place nailed the flavor on the gyro even though we had the deconstructed gyro. Now the only down thing I can say about this place is a bit of menu confusion. What I ordered was the gyro & chicken and rice. I thought it would come with the lamb gyro and rice but what is was is basically a deconstructed gyro. The pita is actually the gyro which I found out later. The guy working there said the owner doesn't get it about people thinking a gyro is no bread. Wrong answer, but the right answer is NYC flavor and that they nailed. Will have to try some other items to see street car quality but 5-star on the food. You also have to wait a bit for your food which means it's not stuffed in a microwave and they actually prepare your food! Yea UPDATE: this time I got the actual gyro but it's called a pita for some reason the owner thinks a pita means gyro. Whatever. But I have to say I may stick with the deconstructed one. The pita was good but I'm not sure if it's because of big chunks of meat instead of shredded and it's not wrapped to hold together well or what but the deconstructed one was much better. Still the best over all the other Michigan gyros I've had but this one I just wasn't as happy with. 9/8/20: got their NY Style meal and this time they changed the spice and it no longer tasted like the NY street gyros I've come to love. Even with saying no red sauce the seasoning was super hot. I couldnt eat it. No need for me to come back here. I tried my husbands lamb (he got same thing) and just too damn hot. Kinda surprised me after sucking down crappy wine from Otooles! Got the General Tso chicken and inhaled it. Friend got a vegetarian bowl and made me try to tofu cause it looked like chicken. It was really good and she agreed! Will be back soon! read more

I wish that you could order it through Uber east or door dash but I had to get grub hub to get the veggie platter specifically. I like that they put in a burger and it's a good portion. BEYOND Disappointed. As per what you'll see in my other yelp reviews, I take the culinary world quite seriously...The hospitality industry to me is as essential as any in my book. I grant A LOT of grace to restaurants for occasionally not meeting the mark...either in their preparation, recipe, or even service. I really do. Where I really have to draw the line though is if I find out said established has knowingly lied to me, and fraudulently sold me something that isn't in alignment with their narrative. This just occurred. After having not really spent much time in Royal Oak and not experiencing any of its ancillary / related nightlife in years, I was pleasantly surprised to run into Detroit Eatery as a solution for something to eat quickly in between checking out the different bars and clubs in the area. I was starting to get quiet cozy with their beef patties, vegetable samosas and quite frankly even their Indian curry / rice entrees over the past two evening. Then...It all hit me as I was looking back into the kitchen earlier this evening... I noticed a large box of FROZEN, prepared vegetable samosas that apparently I and other customers had been served and eating, already prepared out of a box. Mind you... The preparation of a frozen product can turn out quite well. Clearly I was enjoying them enough to return. It's almost excusable. The moment I walked up to the owner that I had begun to build somewhat of a report with and asked him about the samosas with a bit of Machiavellian flair, the entire façade began crumbling almost immediately, and quite viscerally I might add. I asked him what the secret to his samosas was! His response was something to the effect of "She makes them fresh every morning, brings them in daily and they're all made from really fresh ingredients. They're just the best." That moment I realized I was being slung a blitzkrieg of bullshit, and the owner of the restaurant had decided to overtly lie to my face about the food he was selling just to maintain allure. In that very moment I made the decision that I would do a 180 and go out of my way to try and prevent anybody else from eating at an establishment that lies to its customers. After being met with his flurry of fictitious fuxkery as a response, I can no longer ever in good conscience recommend, visit or endorse this establishment ever again. Once a business establishment has made the decision that they are willing to knowingly lie to a customer, one should never trust them again. It now unfortunately must brings into question the genuine prep of all other items being sold ... even the integrity and safety of the food It's self. Fantastic location, prime real estate, well designed menu / aesthetic and an efficient system for ordering. It's a real shame that my appreciation for all of this was undone with a single swift action. it's unacceptable and total bullshit. I literally couldn't be more disappointed. I don't expect, and I don't foresee anything remedying this fiasco. In an ideal world see adhd ear why would you as we full genuine explanation for why this was the case. I should say in advance if the gentleman chooses to read my post that I took pictures of the boxes of frozen vegetable samosas, and can clearly identify the brand as well as multiple other products, say, quickly caught a glimpse of in the kitchen that there a wrench in his "fresh" narrative. I'm of course, open and receptive to a genuine and sincere attempt it remedying the situation, and a real honest apology for the deception, but having god of death of a feel for his style I don't think that's gonna be happening, so I won't be holding my breath. read more

It was a great dish, it was better than any of the fried rice dishes that I have ordered at other area Thai places. Also the cook was the one that brought my order out and he recommended some other dishes based on my ordering the spicy fried rice dish. I will be back. read more

I have been wanting to check this place out for a while as it was highly recommended by a friend. I am so glad I did! I ordered the Butter Chicken and Lamb Gyro. The butter chicken flavors were out of this world with heat, hint of sweet and blend of Indian spices. Would definitely order again. Generous portions, enough for two meals. The lamb gyro was good. Straight up NYC street food. If you ever wanted to try street food from NYC but don't want to venture there try this. I go to NYC a lot and this is a very good representation. High marks for the lamb and chicken over rice. This has lamb, chicken, onion, green pepper, gyro sauce and siracha over yellow saffron rice. The lamb and chicken were cooked to perfection. The onion were sautéed. The gyro sauce is the champ. Silky smooth. The rice was nicely cooked. The guy at the counter was very friendly. I will be back to try other menu items. read more

The only dish I've gotten here, Shrimp Lol Mein, tastes only average+: salty, savory but nothing stands out. It is filling and plentiful (enough for two, so -- leftovers!), including at least 17 firm shrimp. For $10, w/ no premium added for meats, it's a bargain shrimp meal. If I could give 3.5 stars I would because it's about a C+ for the food. The service was fine but bare-bones and quick like a takeout should be, food was ready on time. Both count for something. But flavor counts much more. Looking forward to trying another Chinese dish and a couple of Indian dishes. Haha, I always eat most of my food before I think of taking photos. read more

We had a really great first experience with Detroit Eatery. We ordered online, and they did suggest calling to place an order if you have special requests (we did) because they're happy to discuss and make sure they understand. They were very friendly and welcoming. We were honestly really blown away by how delicious our food was. We each ordered the New York style platters -- one with lamb & chicken, one with chicken -- and we asked for extra veggies and no rice. They accommodated us and even said they may consider adding the option to their menu! They've only been open for two weeks so they are starting with a smaller menu and planning to grow. Anyway, I'm not sure what they did to the lamb, chicken, or veggies but I need more of it in my life. Crazy flavorful. The platter comes with ranch and sriracha, and they serve some incredible ranch dressing... the kind you find any vessel for, because you want to be a little more sophisticated than eating it by the spoonful. The chicken wings totally fall off the bone...yum. Only downfall is that they're pretty small. We ordered ours with sauce on the side (yes, we are THOSE people :)) and they didn't even need the sauce. Except ranch, of course. We will definitely be back! Been here twice in a week, such a hot spot! At lunch time today there were already 20 people there and it was a wait, but we'll worth it!! I'm glad my co workers and I found this place as we are so tired of the many sit down bar restaurants down town Royal Oak. It gets overpriced and old when you already know what's expected. Every single thing is fantastic, with the highlight being the butter chicken and the lowlight being the Chinese food. My only criticism is that they could use a bit more salt on their food, but that's not enough to dock them a star. Good price. Good food. Fast service. Best thing to happen to Royal Oak in a while. The Chicken 65 had the perfect amount of spice if you prefer a little heat. The Jamaican Beef Patties reminded me of the ones I used to get when I lived in LA. My boyfriend had the New York Style Lamb Rice Platter, and he raved about it. We were honestly a little sketched out by the appearance because we just stumbled across it so we actually tried to go somewhere else. But everything else was closed. I've never eaten here sober, but when you're drunk, let me tell you.. it's the absolute perfect greasy monstrosity to shove in your mouth then fall asleep with all your clothes on then wake up with yellow lamb grease from your mouth on your white pillow sheets. The food tastes like you mixed Chinese takeout and giant chunks of gyro meat that you cut with a samurai sword in a drunken stupor. Maybe the cooks are drunk too, or maybe they're high. This is the best high meal you could ever dream of making. Order 3 sides of the hot sauce, and dump them all on there too. Then you will have a real good time- don't worry it's not as spicy as the other places, it's perfect. Best bedtime meal ever read more

We stopped in, and we were hoping the amazing scents that came from the kitchen were a foreshadow of what we were about to eat. We ordered and about 20 minutes later our food was finished.
