I ordered the jerk wings, samosas, Jamaican beef patty, and a chicken salad. The Samosas and beef patties didn't have as much flavor as you would expect. Scrumptious Halal Guys style bowls. The meat is all halal and super fresh! I've tried Halal Guys in Chicago and California and I have to say that this place tops them. The owners are patient and they do their best to accommodate any special requests in regards to customizing any menu item. I wish they were closer to my house but anytime I'm in the area, I make sure to get a gyro bowl to go. I also love their shrimp fried rice. The Jamaican beef patty was good, somosas were huge but unfortunately lacking in flavor. Kind of bland for a somosa but probably geared more towards american palates. The #1 NY style lamb and chicken platter was really good, I would definitely come back just for this! The basmati rice was cooked to perfection and the lamb gyro meat was to die for. The combination of sauces and salad mixed in just enhanced it all! The Jamaican jerk wings however we're pretty awful, the flavor was okay but the wings were so soggy it felt like I was eating undercooked wings. So we just saved them to heat up in the oven, hopefully they crisp up. Tres leches and coconut milk cakes were okay but nothing to brag about. The tres leches in Mexican town bakery is much better. I would like to try the mango lassi next time because I'm a big fan and curious about the flavor of it here, though it's pretty difficult to mess up. So overall, just stick to the rice platers and Jamaican beef patty and you won't be disappointed! read more

I'm one of those people who usually allow a bad experience at a restaurant to fly under the rug and will choose not to patronize the business again, but in this instance I can't just look the other way. First let me start by saying that I'm writing this review only hours after eating here. This place gets 0/5 stars because 2 hours after eating the food I couldn't stop projectile vomiting for 10 minutes straight. (Sorry for the graphic photo, but this is cause for serious concern.) So my girlfriend and I decided to order food here while waiting for them to finish the DoorDash order we were delivering. She ordered the vegetarian samosas and the Ny Style Vegetarian Plate and I ordered the Ny Style Chicken Platter and a Jamaican Beef Patty. While the food smells great and and the menu looks appetizing, the food itself is not worth the 25+ minute wait time. I'm going to take a guess and say that the samosas and the Jamaican patties come frozen because my girlfriends samosas were hot on the outside, but the vegetables inside were still cold and the patties are less flakey and more doughy than a traditional Jamaican patty is. While my girlfriend initially enjoyed the flavor of the vegetarian platter, she became less thrilled when she realized there was tofu in the meal, but there is no mention of tofu in the dish when reading their menu. Now the worst part of our order had to be my Ny style Chicken Platter, which you can see what it looks like only a couple hours later from the photo my girlfriend took of me. It's sad because this little hole in the wall restaurant is only 10 minutes walking distance from our house, but we will NEVER return to this restaurant again. If you're looking for food in the downtown Royal Oak area, PLEASE consider another location before settling on this. read more

Loved the lamb over rice, it's classic Halal street food from NYC. I also had the jerk wings which have the perfect amount of spice. Side note: I grew up eating super spicy food, so skip these if you're sensitive to spice. The lamb over rice was my favorite. They nailed the white sauce, and the portion of salad was perfect. I mixed it up in my container and had a little of everything in each bite. The customer service is great and these guys are from Sylhet! So you know whatever they cook will be fire. These are generous portions, and I definitely had leftovers. Will be back with the fam before Ramadan is out. read more

Pita definitely hit the spot. Was flavorful and the meats were really good. Pita came with French fries and I really liked the seasoning that they used. I would definitely recommend checking it out. Does shrimp stir fry they ask me if I wanted it spicy or mild and I said mild, The butter chicken I ordered mild and then I got the New York Gyro platter. Being from Detroit didn't quite understand the difference between New York and Detroit gyro. apparently the New York one has Sriracha and everything is chopped up and there is lettuce involved. The tzatziki sauce isn't very flavorful. The concept of this restaurant though is very unique and I really hope that they tweak their menu to be able to reach all crowds not just the ones that like spicy food. I'm no wimp when it comes to spice but like I said it was a little bit much for me. If I was scoring this just on the food, I would give a 5... however we had to wait quite awhile for our carry out due to oil machine not being on. So we waited around 25 minutes for one order, but he did give more fries because of it. That was nice! Ordered the Chicken Pita and fries for the first visit to keep it simple, sooooo good! I was excited to find a place that sells NY style gyro and rice outside of Hamtramck and had to try it! Called in and ordered prior to arriving, and food was ready before the estimated time. Service was fast and friendly. Food quality was better than some of the other places I've had specific style gyro and rice from. I kinda like how they have a small menu! Makes ordering and deciding what to get easier in my mind. It is nice to find a place that makes halal food in Royal Oak! The price is right, the portions are great...even the Basmati was treated with care...buttery and amazing! Back to the Butter Chicken: you can taste each and every ingredient that went into this dish, all perfectly balanced and complimentary to each other. The only thing missing is some Naan! You *gotta* have naan with Indian food..you don't want to miss a drop of the sauce! I'm guessing Naan is a bread best served made-on-sight, and there's just no room to make Naan? All is forgiven, that dish is killer. My wife went for Gyro and I was very impressed with her choice as well. Kids had chicken roll ups, didn't try them but they were devoured along with addictive, seasoned fries.
