    Lamb

I came in at 7:30pm on a wednesday night with my mom. It was not crowded, so they just told me to pick whatever seat I wanted. It was very atmospheric, especially at night when the lights came on. I'd recommend you come in at 8:30pm during summer, or 7:00pm during winter for the best atmosphere. I got the lamb and my mother the steak. We shared food and we both agreed everything tasted great! We also got the deviled eggs and bone marrow, though the bone marrow was a bit too salty for our asian tastebuds. The waiter was really nice, handsome bastard. And the front desk girl got us sorted quick. Overall 5/5.

Amazing meal! Really cute charming french restaurant. Feels like a hidden gem with great service and a lovely atmosphere. I felt like I was transported to another city! I went for brunch / lunch and I got the short rib sandwich and it was perfect!! The meat melted in my mouth, the pickled onions gave it a nice crunch and the horseradish cream gave it the best kick. The only thing was that my bread got a bit soggy while eating it but I didn't mind it much! The fries were crispy and tasty as well. Highly reccomend!

    DineLA Menu (January 2026)

Amazing DineLA offering -- MERCI BEAUCOUP, Deux Bistro, for the memorable dinner yesterday. Deux Bistro is located in the French Quarter, not far from Gastropub HQ, facing Ventura Blvd. You can feel the Parisian vibes from the outside of the restaurant; it is so cute and inviting. There's inside and outside seating - we ended up sitting in the booth area, since it was quite cold that night. Here's what the DineLA dinner menu comprised of for $45 per person, in order of courses served: - Lobster Bisque or Deviled Eggs with Caviar: I tried both and love love loved them both. I am a sucker for caviar and the deviled eggs were quite tasty. The bisque was thick with well-sized lobster chunks. I recommend trying the bisque with their house bread! - (NOT ON DINELA) Bread N' Butter: The bread being baguette and the butter containing caramelized shallots - YUM YUM YUM. It is not complementary and not part of the DineLA special, but definitely worthwhile. I'm so glad we ordered it. - Troué Normand: A nice little palate cleanser consisting of lemon sorbet and apple brandy (I believe?). It tasted like the most pure, refreshing ice cream. - Classic Paella or Beef Wellington: Both stellar options, I must say! The Paella has chicken, shrimp, lamb sausage and green beans - hearty and savory. The Beef includes filet mignon, puff pastry, mushroom and a deliciously rich sauce - note it is $25 extra, but well worth it!!! - Red Wine Poached Pear Tart: Perfectly prepared, hands down, no notes. We were already full by the time we reached dessert, but there was no way we would deprive ourselves of that immaculate pastry. All in all, a top-tier DineLA experience and a MUST if you're celebrating restaurant week. This is a limited-edition menu only available from Friday 1/23/26 to Friday 2/6/26 - get it while you can. One more thing - half-way through our meal, a couple near us began to loudly complain about the $25 surcharge for ordering the Beef Wellington as part of their DineLA experience. The man moaned about not seeing the surcharge mentioned on the menu, which of course it was, and the waiter even pointed it out on the menu. Then the woman loudly complained that Deux Bistro had the audacity to charge so much for such a small and normal portion of meat, and she wouldn't have ordered it if she had known. Honestly, it was disgusting to watch and I felt genuinely awful for the restaurant. The waiter kept it professional and polite, though, informing them the obvious that the DineLA menu is actually a great deal, the surcharge is mentioned on the menu, and the meat is filet mignon. I mean... it's Beef Wellington. They kept complaining and ended up getting it comp'ed. I was disappointed, but I understood. Big shoutout to the server for handling that so well. I ended up parking on the side street, but there's a garage around the corner if you don't mind paying.

We stopped by Deux Bistro for brunch/lunch since I was craving for some steak frites and surely it did not disappoint. The steak was perfectly done to my liking ( Rare). The hanger steak was nice and tender as well. The only thing they forgot was to top it with the herb butter. Besides that dish we also order one of the specials breakfast which was lamb sausage omelet. Thier omelet were delicious. The lamb sausage was delicious and flavorful. Service from Anahi was fantastic and professional. Overall, what a cool and cozy little French Bistro restaurant that serves up some good delicious food. Until our next visit.

Super cute and cozy spot in the Valley's French quarter. Servers are super friendly and accommodating with allergy questions. We started with the bread n butter, the crispies on the butter were excellent. My friend really liked the escargot. The trout almondine was cooked well with perfectly cooked green beans. The fries that came with the steak frites were perfectly fried. For dessert, the key lime was my favorite.

I chose Deux Bistro because of the Duck A L'orange. I have not had this in quite some time and was excited to try it here. As other reviewers mentioned, parking is a challenge on Ventura Blvd., especially on a Saturday night. But if you're willing to walk a bit, there's ample free parking on adjacent streets. We found ours just around the corner from the restaurant. We arrived on time for our reservation. There was no one at the host stand so we waited for a couple minutes. We were first taken to a small corner table by a hallway. I asked if we could be seated at the open table by the window. There was a bit of confusion about the availability of that table, so we settled for a table on the booth side. As we were looking over the menu it seems that the confusion was cleared up and we were moved to the window table. That was wonderful. Although they had a tasting menu that evening, we already had our minds set -- Escargots to start, Duck A L'orange for me, Steak Frites for the husband and Creme Brûlée for dessert. My husband chose the 12 oz. NY strip, medium rare with pan sauce (instead of his usual peppercorn). The food was good overall. The escargots were flavorful but small. Delicious bread. The duck was prepared well with nicely seasoned, crispy skin, accompanied by tender baby bok choy. The orange sauce was just right. The NY strip was perfectly cooked, but the fries were not. They didn't seem freshly prepared, like they've been sitting under a heat lamp. The pan sauce was ok -- the husband regrets not choosing the peppercorn sauce. The Creme Brûlée was fantastic. The ambiance is warm and inviting. I love the simple decor -- wood floors and white walls contrasted by the black stamped tile ceiling. Our table by the window was perfect. Service was a little slow at times, but always pleasant. It was a lovely evening -- we may return to give them another try.

If you're looking for an authentic French restaurant in the area, look no further. We enjoyed every single dish we tried. The service was excellent. They made sure we had a great experience and we actually did. The price was reasonable. Noise level was average. Lighting was perfect. I would love to come back. Parking is quite limited so it's advisable to carpool if you're coming with a big group.

Gazpacho ideal for hot summers, ultra puréed, acidic, pronounced Estragon/tarragon

Deux Bistro is spelled Deux Bistrots in French. Colonial French exterior & Gallic blue, white, red theme festooning of the tricolors create the stereotypical American vision of France. Interior is tastefully subdued. I got here at 6pm on a Tuesday before customers trickled in & wished there were Piaf or French Chanson music to set the mood, but 1970's American R&B was playing which was pleasant enough. I coincided my first visit with DineLA which was the only way that I found out about this charming bistrot & also got a good deal. 0) I first ate grilled Merguez sausages in the Quatrième Arrondissement visiting France decades ago. It's a medium ground lamb mixed with a heady blend of paprika, cumin, garlic, coriander, fennel. It's a huge sandwich using a very light, touch crispy, and airy baguette w/ dairy fragrant, sweet, house made butter & gamey, meaty Merguez split in half length wise, tomato, butter lettuce and a smear of potent Harissa purée. Made of roasted red peppers, chile peppers, garlic, olive oil, and a blend of spices like cumin, coriander, and caraway, etc. Highly recommend if you like bold flavours. Pommes Frites are standard French fries. Twice fried Belgian style may be tastier. 1) Goat Cheese Salad: Little ball of funky, creamy Chevre/goat cheese was unusual being covered w/ a chiffonade of dried herbs like French thyme, parsley, sage, rosemary on toasted slice of baguette. Mixed greens, slice of sweet cara cara orange, raisins, roasted, crunchy hazel nut, cherry tomatoes for sweet, acidic Umami napped with very mild Aceto Balsamico Vinaigrette. 2) Boeuf Bourguignon: Rich, thick, dark Sauce Demi-Glace that had a pronounced fruity, sweet, satisfying Umami not associated w/ this dish which enhanced the other ingredients to another level. Undertone of what may be smoky black pepper & earthy, herbal thyme. Cubes of meaty, plush, fibrous short rib beef were slow simmered for 24 hours to create a soft, well rounded, fat rich, voluptuous mouthfeel. Snap peas, string beans, carrots, pearl onions, button mushrooms. Yukon Gold Pommes Purées/mashed potatoes w/ butter infusion rounded out this formidable variation. 3) Gazpacho ideal for hot summers, ultra smooth, puréed tomato & possibly cucumber, acidic, w/ Estragon/tarragon thickened with Ciabatta bread. Drizzling of rich, yellow golden evoo and pinch of chives. To lighten the strong flavour of the fruity red wine vinegar, perhaps finely chopped tomato as a garnish would freshen & add counter texture to this mostly suave dish. 4) Tuesday Fried Chicken Special: Huge breast, thigh, drumstick brined w/Herbes de Provence of savory, marjoram, oregano, rosemary, & thyme. However, I really couldn't sense those herbal flavours. Meat was moist, meaty covered by a crunchy thick, brown batter. Nice starchy pomme purée herbed w/ what may be smokey rosemary oil & lots of butter. Haricots Verts/green beans. 0-4a) "Obscure" Burgundian Gamay. Rustic, juicy, dark red grape, lightly sweet balanced by acidity. Woody, damp earth, mushroomy. 5) Canard à l'Orange: Breast meat w/ skin side pan fried in its own tasty fat which crisps the skin w/ fat oozing out w/ each bite. Meat is darker, moist, touch gamey, medium rare so as to not dry out & toughen the meat. Heads up: the duck breast is small. Orange sauce is lightly viscous, touch bitter, w/ a hint of a Velouté texture. Smokey bbq & Cognac like undertone. Segments of small orange & chiffonade of green onion fried into airy crisps as garnish. Braised bok choy & grilled which charred and toughened the fibers of the green leaves. Mélange of greens including nutty, bitter arrugula tossed w/ a sweet citrus dressing. 5a) Pinot Nero, Bonzano Hosteria, Monferrat, Italia, 2021: Chilled red wine. Toasty brown sugar scent. brandied cherries, black currant very juicy, sweet, yet dry, touch raspy. Noticeable tannin, acidic, woody, green bellpepper, warm spices like cinnamon. Not a shy wallpaper type. 6) Mousse de Chocolat: Creamy yet mildly rough grained Chocolate Mousse that is half way between milk & dark chocolate. Topped w/ lush, triple cream, Crème Chantilly/whipped cream, sugar macerated blackberry, gooey hazelnut caramel. 7) Pistachio Tiramisù: Milk Chocolate frosting coated Savoiardi/lady fingers pastry soaked in sweetened, bitter Espresso so they become softened. A huge dollop of heavy cream-Mascarpone, intermediate between Crème Fraîche & Crème Chantilly sprinkled w/ a dusting of finely crushed pistachio adds a touch of nuttiness. 6-7a) Espresso Dopio: Smooth, smokey bitterness was a good foil to the sweet, mildly earthy, dulcet chocolate. Tim was most helpful & considerate, often thinking ahead of my needs. Really appreciate his kind, proactive service creating Bon Accueil/warm hospitality. He is definitely an asset to Deux Bistrots. Deux Bistrots is a "sleeper" French restaurant that should be recognized as superior casual dining in its genre. 4+ stars!!!

Had a chance to stop by Deux Bistro for the first time with a friend recently. I was a longtime customer of the former restaurant in the location (Nicola's), and I have been wanting to try Deux Bistro. I follow their account on Instagram and am so glad that I could finally give it a try. We stopped by a couple of days after Dine LA Week ended, but they were still offering the brunch menu the day we went. Both my friend and I ordered the same items...the goat cheese salad, the chicken sandwich, and the chocolate mousse. AJ was our server and he was great! Although it was midday on a Sunday, there was a large party celebrating a birthday and they were a bit on the loud side. That didn't bother us, but something to note if you are looking for a quiet meal...it could be a little noisy. Also, parking can be difficult on the street at times. There is a parking garage attached to the complex, though I am not sure if the restaurant validates. The salad and sandwich were absolutely delicious. The mousse was not my favorite, but there was nothing wrong with it...I just think my taste buds prefer a different flavor. Do note that the wine list is very small, and the first choice my friend requested was out. It would be nice if there was a slightly bigger list available. Overall, we had a really nice experience and the food was very good. I look forward to going back and trying some of the other menu options.

I've passed by countless times and found out they were still open and decided to check them out part of Dina LA week. Parking will suck but you can try to park in the nextdoor plaza and walk over. We got there and service was a little lagging. I wanted to order a coffee but the waiter said they ran out of beans and the manager was on his way with them lol so asked if I wanted to wait. I got my cappuccino at the end with the chocolate mousse which was good. My friend wanted a Sauvignon blanc and they also ran out of that. Obviously they were just not prepared especially for lunch hour and dine la week. The waiter came to say our food will be out in 10 minutes. It was passed 10 min and we waited for half an hr or so to get our food. For the appetizer I got the Bibb salad which had a nice presentation and was refreshing. I got the French omelette which was good but not filling and the cheese made the omelette for sure. My friend got the chicken sandwich with arugula which looked so good! I wish I got that. Overall, glad I got to check this place out after always passing by and thinking there was no business there because from outside its looks closed. But there was nothing to die for. Maybe I'd come back to try their chicken sandwich but other than that, I don't think I'll be planning to go again.

Had another wonderful meal at Deux Bistro with one issue. The food and beverage were pretty much on point. Tried the steak tartar this time which was rich and flavorful. Only thing is I'm not a fan of the potato chips. I prefer crostini or bread instead. The duck breast was flavorful but I think the chef could have handled the thick fat underneath the skin a little better. Pasta and pate were great as expected. My only real complaint is the trouble that I went through trying to politely borrow a lighter. Despite seeing one on the counter, which they constantly used to light up candles on tables, the host repeatedly said he didn't have one. When I asked if he would be kind enough to ask his colleague he said he did and that nobody had one. I got up a few minutes later and one of the waiters kindly offered to lend me his. While I am very thankful that he came through, I was a bit annoyed by the many times that I was denied by the host, who frankly didn't look like he even tried to help since we all knew there was a lighter sitting on the counter. Not sure what this was all about. I just dropped over $300 on dinner. Letting me borrow a lighter for a quick smoke outside shouldn't be this difficult. This experience sort of left a bad taste in my mouth. Otherwise I would have given another 4 star review.

    Happy hour lamb chops

Our 1st time at Deux Bistro and we will definitely return. Decided to try the happy hour. What could go wrong with hot bread, burrata, peach salad and lamb chops with the creamiest mashed potatoes and excellent red wine reduction. Even the butter was delicious! AJ, was an excellent server, knowledgeable about the ingredients in the sauces and origin of the lamb. Can't wait to go back for the steak tartare and trout almondine.

Small restaurant but cozy and had that French bistro vibe. Customer service is ok. The son of the owner was super nice. But the owner was meh.... Food wise - the escargot was good. The steak frites had a bit of a chew in it - it could be more tender. The tomato soup, crab cake, and the beef bourguinon were good. The cream brûlée was ok. The banana split though had very little ice cream - they loaded it with whipped cream and bananas - just like it looked in the picture. Parking is behind in the structure. But I would rather park on the street as the structure is very dark and empty - it can feel creepy.

Opted for the latter to celebrate my sister's birthday. They had some giant fans but they weren't doing much help. We put some drinks in and got 2 ridiculously expensive tiny hamachi crudo plates. Then all of a sudden the fans stopped working. Our waiter informed us that there was no power in the entire restaurant inside or out. Correct me if I'm wrong but shouldnt places like these have back-up generators just in case? Shortly thereafter he came and told us LADWP would arrive in 1 hour which literally means 2 to 3 hours minimum so instead of having our dinner for breakfast we asked to close out our bill (which should have been comped but they did not even deduct anything for the tremendous inconvenience), after just two plates of Hamachi Crudo and four drinks. The bill was presented to me and I figured there's no way all of this costs $240 I said I want to see an itemized receipt they came back with a $160 bill so more shady shit thrown to the shade. Very grudgingly paid but just wanted to get the fuck out of there we went to Il Fornaio nearby and had a lovely meal and service, to salvage my poor sister's birthday. Needless to say but I will, the easiest one and done in my life and I've had quite a bit if you read my reviews. Inexcusable ridiculousness and zero compensation. It was complete chaos as people were canceling left and right and more people were flooding in as the reservations backed up I hope God helped them through the night. It's one thing to lose power unfortunate yes, but to not have a backup generator and then not even take care/compensate your customers is an abysmal excuse for management and a restaurant.

Entering the restaurant, you are surrounded by an elegant decor, white table cloth tables with well selected plate settings. While they provide complimentary bread, I was tempted to try something different: the milk bread with lavender honey butter at $6. One bite and it was the wrong choice for me. Too sweet, both the bread, the butter, with no contrasts. I had to return it and they kindly took it off the bill. Instead, the complimentary sourdough bread with the two accompanying butters was a major hit. Both the butters, the Champagne Brie and the Onion Cabernet, one was better than the other, and truly unique. For lunch, it was my desire to try the 2-course Prix Fixe menu. Of the two starter choices, it was Brie Mushroom soup for me. A well balanced thick soup, nice brown color and with a tasteful silky body. Out of the 3 main choices, I opted for the Petit Cabernet. It comes as a 6 oz hand-cut filet mignon, topped with danish blue cheese butter (garlic butter for me, instead) over cabernet demi-glace, sautéed spinach and a campari tomato (yes, just one). The dish arrived at the table nice and hot and superbly arranged as a dynamic presentation (see my pictures). You could smell the steak grill, and appreciate the charring. The spinach was fresh and the tomato succulent, not mushy and plump with an heirloom flavor. To put it mildly, I was truly blown away. In my experience at steak houses, it is rare for a restaurant to check out on all the boxes, with flying colors. I asked tor the steak to be medium rare and every bite was exactly that, no dry areas. Each slice of meat was juicy and when mixed with the cabernet demi-glaze, it took me to another place. Then the knife, well sharpened, cutting through like butter. Also, the optimum balance and complimentary seasoning between the accompanying sides of spinach and tomato. All this cannot impress without stellar service. And that is what it was. My server was Steven G. He and the manager Manny, kept checking on me numerous times. Every time I disappeared to the rest room, my napkin was changed to a new one and laid out in perfect position. What else can I say. I did compliment them both on the exceptional care, service and food. And walked out after having one of the best steak meals I have had, for a very long time.

Our neighborhood stake house with mouth watering pictures in the ads. But, I ate an ordinary salad with very ripped cherry tomato to the point of being rotten, ordinary cheesecake which looked like what you buy from Ralph's, and the beef was not great tasting. Bland! Nothing special, memorable or noteworthy. I paid extra to get lobster Mac and cheese. Big mistake. It had pieces of lobster (I guess) that had a very weird taste and smell. Mac and cheese looked like a soup!!! My wife hated the cocktail too. We had to change our drinks; blueberry something it was called. Weird Sweet drink with more sugar on the glass rim. For a $250 price tag, I don't think I would go back. I don't expect ordinary food and ripe cherry tomato for this price.

It was my girlfriend's first time dining at Ruth's Chris. We were craving a good steak for a while. We were asked if we were celebrating anything special when we checked in with the hostess. I briefly mentioned our anniversary and they asked us to wait a couple minutes to get our table ready. We waited maybe 2 minutes and were escorted to a table to our surprise that had tiny hearts and specialized menus that displayed "Happy Anniversary". Nothing extravagant but the little things like this make a difference in showing they care. We were greeted within 5 minutes by our server for the evening. His name is Frankie and if anyone dines at the new Canoga location, I would highly recommend asking for his section. Frankie is everything you could ask for out of an attendant waiter. For a Saturday evening, it was pretty busy so I always give servers the benefit of the doubt and understand that sometimes checking in every 5-10 minutes can be difficult depending on staffing and the amount of tables assigned to the server. Frankie, even though he served the whole section we were sat in, clearly knows to manage his time properly. I used to work as a shift lead for a family restaurant. Frankie executed a perfect balance of check ins, brief but classy and humorous conversation, and an absolute delight and honor to have him join our special evening. I always prefer to leave a 20% tip because I know what it's like to be an employee of any restaurant, but it's pretty rare for me to feel the server fully deserves it nowadays. I ordered an extra side just so the total would help increase his 20% tip and give Frankie some extra sales productivity. All in all, the food was delicious, they provided a complimentary cheesecake that I was quite impressed with, and the manager even came over to introduce herself and check how we were doing. Just know that Frankie really took our experience over the top and the staff as a whole made sure we were treated with extra care. I'm happy to say we will definitely return the next time we are craving a steak and will most definitely be asking for Frankie's section again.

The chefs apparently believe their aging customers have dead tastebuds and increasingly strong overwhelming flavors are replacing the exquisite subtleties that made Ruth's Chris famous. As an added bonus, the regulars are friendly and welcoming! The filet sandwich is my personal favorite and I do not recommend the crudo... the sause is so strong the fish might as well be cardboard and the pickled ginger is awful.

Because my job requires me to always travel. I'm always looking for a spot nearby where I can get a quick bite or enjoy my morning with a Hearty breakfast. I pay attention to the food the way that they season it the way that it's served the presentation and it's not because I want to. It's just overtime. I've developed an eye for these kind of things. By tasting the eggs in the omelette, I can tell that there's effort put into the ingredients and seasoning the slight pleasant creaminess of the eggs tell the whole story and the selection that goes into the scramble is so delicious! And fitting I recommend the chicken apple sausage in the omelette. It's not even a question of whether or not I'll be enjoying my morning here again it's a firm most definitely! I didn't even get into the crunchy potatoes that's a whole different ball game!

I have come once every few years and this place still hits. My niece ordered the 3 egg scramble with: smashed avocado, queso fresco, and spinach with home fried potatoes. My sister ordered the Belgian Liege Waffle with Berries and Banana. I ordered the Chimichurri Steak Quesadilla. We shared foods and hit the ultimate combo of savory and sweet. We saved the Waffle for dessert. The most surprising thing was how amazing and crisp the waffle was after we ate the savory parts of our shared meals. This is the second location in The Valley. The other location is in Granada Hills. Apparently Doja Cat, Vanilla Ice, Stevie Wonders, and other celebs are regulars that they have a menu called "Eat like the Stars," based on the celebrities usual order.
