They have a really nice tap room downtown, but this review is about beer. Pilsner is not easy to brew, so when a brew meister gets it right, I think it deserves a mention. Really enjoyed this place. Beer was great we had the evil twin I think it was called - a red ipa. Food very good, they had october fest special item fried cauliflower in a sweet and sour sauce that was really yummy. A cool option tucked away in a light industrial area. The beers are all very tasty without exception. During the day it's a great place to take on a couple pints and play a few games of cribbage. The staff is always friendly and there is always an excellent selection of IPA beers for sipping. They do tend to be overly focused on the IPA style but I get it that this is the very popular style that so many seek out. I wish they would add more variety in terms of the lighter hopped beers with malt forward flavors. Derby girl is a favorite but it makes an appearance all too infrequently. Parking is absolutely plentiful and the AC is not spared on warmer days. Happy to see they are making strides to open more locations in the Sacramento area and it's also great to see their beers on the shelf at the local grocery store and even at the local Costco from time to time. I'm a big fan of Device's Ice Blocks location so when I found out they had a brewery closer to my house, I couldn't wait to check it out. Located off Power Inn, it is definitely smaller and has a more warehouse-type feel to it. They have indoor seating and some limited outdoor spots. I enjoyed that they are dog-friendly. The beers of their that I like are just as good as they are downtown but overall they lean a little more into the IPA realm (not my favorites). read more

Device is simply a great local brewery. Despite their ever-growing popularity, this location still manages to feel like a little tucked away gem. Come for the beer, stay for the company, buy more beer for home and repeat. You can grab a table with friends, bring your own food and it is dog friendly. I don't have a dog but I would frequent this spot if I did. But the real draw, of course, is the beer. This is locally brewed craft beer at its finest. I am a big fan of the Pincushion Pilsner and the Ofrenda Mexican Lager. They have a lot of great IPA's as well. Not much of a fan of stouts but they even have some better than average versions of those here. Whatever the occasion, keep this place in mind if you're a beer lover. Came here for dinner and drinks. They had lots beer choices and variety of stouts which are my favorite. We got the beer flight which is probably the way to go. You get to try 5 different beers for $10. We also order tators tots, nachos and chicken tenders with fries. My favorite will probably be the tators tots. They were crunchy and delicious. I come here once in a while because it is near where I live. Hidden in what seems to be warehouses, there is plenty of parking and it seems like there is nothing nearby (in walking distance) of restaurants, other breweries, or any business that is open. This place is intimate, but there are plenty of chairs for everyone. Though the setup is likely that you'll have no personal space or you'll have to be aware of who's walking near you, because they'll always be in close proximity. Which is fine because I have never seen or experience a @sshole customer just yet. Everyone seems friendly and doesn't get totally wasted. So, the cliental is more of a chill crowd, people from the nearby neighborhood with their dogs cruising on by. Yes, you'll have to order and get your beers at the register. I think they set this up because there are usually one staff working at the time, so they will always be at the register. Waters are self-serve. There NOW appears to be a hotdog stand that comes on Wednesday nights, as well as trivia nights on Wednesday. They also will start serving pizza very soon, so I'm not too sure if the rule on "bring your own food" will change. Yes! You can bring your own food! I guess it matters which employee you talk to, but they were in the works of advancing their system to nitro..... but again, it matters who you talk to lol. As for beers, I also get the Russian Imperial Stout. It's very good, but the real reason I always get that one, is because most of the beers are pale ales. It seems like the beers to brew in Sacramento are IPA's which unfortunately is not my drink. I really wanted to like Device Brewery but here are a couple things I didn't like. When I walked in I sit at the bar only to be told by the lady bartender that I have to go to the register to be served. Okay?! I guess. The next thing is if you are going to list your brews on the board at least do one of two things. Make sure your list is legible to read or put up lighting by the menu so that it can be read easily. It really sucks trying to read what you have and can barley read it! Just sayin'! Also, we were not greeted when we walked in a good ol' fashion "Hello" goes a long way especially when I'm spending money in your establishment. The Bartenders weren't very personable I was lucky to even get a "Thank You" and even that sounded forced. Now to the beers. I ordered a flight which I picked, Integral, Derby Girl, Ale as Night and Basilica. If I had to pick one I would say Integral was my favorite. The beer didn't really have that wow factor. The atmosphere is pretty quite nothing too crazy which is a plus. I wish they had a good truck or something all they sell or Potato chips :/ As many Breweries Sacramento offers this won't be on the top of my list. Pretty cool and chill vibe. They have one tv and it had basketball playoffs playing. Had rock music playing. Games you can play and chill. We brought a growler from another brewery to get filled and got the curious haze for $19 bucks for 64oz. It's a fairly small brewery and was pouring out, so a good crowd inside for a Sunday. They had a small little hut outside for food, but no one was there so I was confused what was sold, but saw a bunch of bags of chips. Would def come back and hang out next time. I love coming here, especially because it is right by my house and they are dog friendly! Great beer selections and always good music (I feel like the Beatles are always on, which I love). Final last updated review on Device. Let me start by saying I was very disappointed in the beginning and became a huge fan in the end. The brew is excellent depending on your taste of course. The IPA is on point, no doubt! Nice casual crowd there ready to drink with you...Not sure what to order? Start with a Kid Casual Blonde Ale 4.7%, then lean into a Anguish Double IPA 8.5%. If you want to put some hair on your chest fellas or for the females get your niples hard, drink the Basilica 3xIPA 10.5 ABV. Basilica will bring the sexy out of you after your 1st sip. Ha, love It! Very friendly staff and good beer. Their tap room is comfortable and a good atmosphere. The music is a little bit loud for me but I think that's just how everywhere is now. After coming from a successful dentist appointment with no cavities, I decided to celebrate by finally crossing Device off my bookmarks two weeks ago. The move was a good one, as it happened to be trivia night, and I cooled off from the hot day with a sample of Inconceivable then a full pint of Kid Casual. Both were great but I especially liked Kid Casual, and the staff was friendly and helpful as I tried to figure out which of their beers I might like best. I sat at the bar and although I was horrible at the first round of trivia (trying to name movie aliens after looking at pictures on a card that was handed to us), tipsy trivia agreed with me. I'd feel comfortable making this a weekly trip, as trivia is played at 6 p.m. every Wednesday night. There was a food truck outside (they also welcome outside food and are dog-friendly) and there is plenty of seating at tables or at the bar for beer fans, and TVs on the wall, which is how I found out Panda rejoined the Giants (sigh) lol. I'll be back to try more limited release beers and maybe do better in trivia next time. ; ) read more

I was visiting a friend in Sacramento for the weekend and we stumbled upon Device and really enjoyed our experience! Beer was delicious, and atmosphere was casual but fun, especially thanks to the board games in the corner and Jenga sets on every table. The gentleman behind the bar was super helpful and sweet, and even let us eat our Taco Bell inside! (side note: Device beer goes great with a Cheesy Gordita Crunch and Crunchwrap Supreme) There was plenty of parking in the lot directly outside the tasting room, and though it's kind of tucked in a business center, it was still easy to find. Kid Casual was a solid blonde, I'd recommend if you a light beer with depth. Nosegrind was a yummy Pale Ale, not too hoppy for those of you who aren't a fan of the bitter flavors in IPAs and Pale Ales. Salted Caramel Porter was heavy and tasty, but didn't have very strong salted caramel flavors in my opinion. Hoping I can find Device beers in Orange County in the near future! read more

Having come to Device Brewing a few times now, I think this last time is a deal breaker. We came in on a Sunday afternoon on our way back from camping in the mountains. It was decently busy but only one person working. There was a full on conversation going on even after beers were poured for a customer which meant we needed to wait quite a bit to get our drinks. No apologies, no warmth, nada. When we go out to drink brews, we consider the beers, the environment and the customer service. When we find one of these lacking we're off into the fog onto the next gem we will discover. Brews are on the pricier side considering you are in a warehouse park in the Sacramento area. Reasons why this place is great: - Tap room is small, cozy, and a little dark. This will be wonderful when we get into the full summertime heat. - They own the space next door which they were kind enough to open for us and roll up the door. It felt like being outside without having to be in direct sunlight. My pale, tattooed skin thanks you! - Dog friendly! - Food trucks! - Seriously good beer! Every one I tried (which was probably 4 or 5) was really well done. - Chalk in the extra space so you can write on the walls. - Wonderful staff! After attending a recent event in Sac, where ice cold water was preferable to the watered down Coors Light that was on tap, I was anxious to try some local craft beer. Sacramento has so many new independent breweries that it's a shame none of them were represented at the event we were at. No worries, as my honey wasn't gonna let me leave town without sampling some finely crafted local beer. And to that tune, Device Brewing fit the bill. It's not in the most convenient of places, then again many breweries are not. That's what's great about Yelp. Point to something hot and new on the map and go. The industrial business park it resides in belies the neatly laid out brewery/taproom that the Device owners have crafted. Their sampler is the standard 4 holed paddled fitted with oddly sized 4.5oz tasters. At least that's what they told me. It could've been an even 4oz for all I know.There were several "sold out" signs posted for some of the 11-12 beers on tap so we ended up getting all 7 that were available. I love the tongue in cheek name of their Me Too Session IPA as this seems to be the latest trend in the craft beer world. I also love that at 4.6% ABV it's really not all that session-able compared to some of the wimpy session IPAs out there. I love dark beers and I enjoy IPAs, so naturally the Pale as Night Black IPA would appeal to me. The Anguish DIPA was quite fantastic without being a hop bomb or trying too hard to be hoppy for hops sake. Brits in Moscow Russian Imperial Stout was a smooth as silk without the alcohol aftertaste that sometimes one would associate with this style of beer. These were my favorite that I tried at the time, yet I notice they rotate things frequently so there's always something new on tap. Gotta love a place that likes to keep things fresh and doesn't take itself too seriously. Sometimes when breweries try to do too many styles, some are good, or even great, while some are just plain terrible. Not so at Device. Everything was really good, regardless of style. While the prices for growler fills are a bit on the high side in my admittedly frugal opinion, they are more than willing to legally fill ANY growler you bring them. That's what labels and painter's tape are for people! Device rightfully belongs among the other new breweries that are taking over Sacramento's brewing scene. I'll be back again, right after I visit all the others to see how they stack up. read more

Device Brewing Co is a cozy little brewery with some great brews! Beertenders were super friendly on a semi-crowded Sunday afternoon. The Brits in Moscow Russian Imperial Stout (9.5% ABV) was phenomenal; definitely one of the best stouts I have come across. The Anguish Double IPA (8.5% ABV) was also fantastic, very fresh tasting and hoppy. The only beer I have tried that I was not a huge fan of was the Belge Cafe Stout (not enough flavor for me). We visited Device Brewing on a Saturday. It's a small venue, packed with a younger crowd of regulars (locals mostly, definitely not much of a hipster/college kid element) and quite a few parents with their children (meh). We grabbed our taster flight and snagged the last available table- which was luckily the table with Jenga and Rock'em Sock'em Robots. Beer and entertainment, score! My flight: Kid Casual Cream Ale: light and smooth, like a pilsner but less crisp. I could drink that all day. Derby Girl Amber: an initial hoppy bite at first sip, which lessened as I kept drinking. I liked it better by the end. Pale as Night Black IPA: I generally like black IPAs but this one had a *very* aromatic hoppy smell and taste. It was a bit too much for me but B liked it. Brits in Moscow Russian Imperial Stout: get this is you like malty. Dark roasty smooth deliciousness in a glass. Good stuff. The venue isn't my favorite but I'd definitely buy the Cream Ale or Russian Imperial Stout if I found it on tap or in bottle somewhere. read more

I really wanted to like device brewing because I love a good craft beer and this place is right next to my apartment. We came here during opening day, so I would come again to try it in the future. Device Brewing has been on my list of SacTown 'to-try' breweries for quite some time, but their limited operating schedule and location that is usually not in my path of travel did not bring me out to Device before. That changed just in time for 'the big game' when the need for some fresh beer came up. I was already in Sacramento near Power Inn and it was early afternoon, so why not kill two birds with one stone? Deep in industrial park off Power Inn Road, Device is on a smaller side with the tap room and brewing operation connected in one space. Few high tables, bar stools, and few barrels are pretty much what the interior of the tasting room consists of. Of course, there is also a small brewing system greeting you right as you walk in. Device looks small and simple, but at the same time cozy and clean. I walked in with my pop-top growler and the guy tending the bar was really cool to let me know they can't fill that type of growlers as theirs are screw top, and gave a good reason for that. They would actually waste beer if they tried to fill pop-tops, as their taps are meant only for the growlers they sell or of the same design. However-and this is the great thing about small breweries- he actually offered to give me one of their loaners and only charge me for the fill. I give Device full credit for understanding that most guys like myself already have a dozen different growlers at home and it's not about spending $10 for glass, but running out of space to store them. I tried few different lower-alcohol beers while deciding what I want to drink half gallon of during Superbowl. At the end I got the growler of their Nosegrind Pale Ale which isn't the best pale I ever had, but was pretty solid for the game. It was easily drinkable and had more flavor then their Me Too session IPA which I was considering as well. I will definitely have to come back to Device and try the rest of the line-up. And now since I actually have an empty loaner growler that I need to return, I might be back sooner than later...With about 10- beers on tap, I'm sure that the rating can only go up from here. read more

I met a guy at Berryessa Brewing in Winters that recommended this place if I am an IPA fan. What? Me an IPA fan? Oh hell yes. I made my way here after work. Nice clean taproom but on the smaller side. Typical seating with the tall wooden type bar stools. Not very comfortable to me but that's fine I am here to try some BEER! They had a very good selection. Started of with their Anguish IIPA. It was a hoppy 8.5% strong beer and was my favorite they had. After that initial beer I stepped down to their 7% Integral IPA. This is a less potent beer and had decent flavor. I sampled a few of the other's but again stuck with the IPA's or IIPA's and even had a sip of their IIIPA. The beertender was a very personable guy. Don't recall his name sorry homie. He answered many questions without a batting an eye. He obviously loves this beer and it showed in the way he explained their story. The owners of this place seem to be letting it grow organically. They are not in too big of a hurry to expand and that is refreshing. They seem to truly love their craft. The crowds that came in around 4pm were indicative of this. From what I recall - after 4 beers - they still have the original 4 people running this place. They are keeping it real yo! If you are in the mood for some good IPA beer do yourself a favor and check it out. Only negative I found were the barstools are not very comfortable. You know what? A few of the local breweries can be hit or miss with their beer, but Device is worth the drive. As IPAs go, I keep getting into hoppier beers, leaning toward double, triple and imperials, but I loved thieir anniversary IPA. In addition to their full and half pint pours, they offer some beers in growlers and a smaller growlette. My first time visiting this brewery was last weekend on their anniversary. They had live music and some favorite food trucks including woodfired pizza and tasty brats. Device has a great air-conditioned space inside and a garage space for darts and corn-hole. read more

Kinda lame that the bartenders don't tend the entire bar, but you must go down to the end and order. Not a huge deal, but means a lot of crowd-navigation and waiting awkwardly behind huge men. Great new place for craft beers! Stopped by on a whim on night and tried their double IPA. The brew was full bodied with great flavor. They were out of the stout and had a triple IPA available. The staff was incredibly friendly and they offer free pretzels. They had a food cart out front in case you get the munchies.
