Device Brewing is quietly becoming a big thing in Sacramento. I have been here a few times and can confirm should be a priority for all those hop heads in the area looking for heaven, or just an intense game of Jenga! Most of their menu is IPA with single, double, triple and all other combinations. I'm sure you could get them to just grind fresh hops into your glass or rim it like a margarita! If you love West Coast style IPA, this is the place for you. I am not a huge fan of IPA especially the modern West Coast high alcohol versions, but my drinking companion was impressed. There are limited non-IPA versions too. The place is pretty remote so either call ahead for food truck schedules or pack a meal if you're hungry. Watch this place to grow quickly. read more

Finally came to check out Device Brewing yesterday and their beer is seriously legit! Though a bit out on the boonies, the nanobrewery is welcoming and very well-kept. My friends and I went through the selection of IPAs with the limited Cap Tap 2nd Anniversary IPA being particularly delicious. The Belgian-style Golden Strong Ale was great too while the Brits in Moscow RIS turned out to be the best of the beers - wonderfully balanced dark chocolate and cacao in a rich, roasty body. One can help him or herself to pretzels and water here as well to cleanse the palate and stay hydrated. Awesome to have found a local brewery comparable to the likes of Track 7 and will be back again and again for sure. read more

I love Device Brewing. I've already left a review for the one in Midtown, because that's the only one I'd been too, but this one is far closer to me. It's a lot more relaxed than the midtown location, which is great if that's what you're looking for! We definitely were. A really cozy and comfortable place to get some of the best craft beer in Sacramento. As per usual you can bring your own food, but they also sell some really good chips and salsa, kettle chips and maybe a few other snacks. Be careful with the habanero salsa though! It's delicious but genuinely painful after a few bites. The bartender was really nice too. So, if you're looking for more of a place for games and a crowd midtown is likely what you're looking for, but if you're looking for some cozy board games and the best beer in the world (Rice Crispy Boi) then this is the location for you. read more

Another tucked away brewery in the rural commercial area near Power Inn and the courthouse. Great tasting IPAs if you like hoppy beers, if hoppy isn't your thing, you'll enjoy Kid Casual (lighter and unique in flavor). A relaxing setting (a TV with sports on), lots of people coming and going. The service was great and friendly, they would check around the bar area to see if you needed another cold one. I was hoping they would have the pizza oven going this time, but unfortunately looks like the county is giving them a hard time on the permit, so they do it's in the storage now. But like most micro breweries, they offer light snacks like chips and pretzels for purchase. I'm sure outside food is welcomed, unless a food truck is present. Recently had my second stop at Device Brewing. When approaching the parking lot, I could see that the place was packed! This is the bittersweet conundrum of a good brewery. Unfortunately, you can't have it all to yourself. They sun was peeking through the clouds so they had the garage door up and a special event taking place inside. Everyone was enjoying themselves and the fine Device brews. For my part, I asked the fine young bar maid to pour me a tall cold one. I went with the Citramento. Clever name, solid and enjoyable brew. Definitely an IPA, but not over the top on the hops with good malt balance. The bar room is medium sized and a bit loud. I can see how it could be hard to squeeze in this place at peak beer drinking times. Nevertheless, you should give it a go. Many more beers on the menu that I'm looking forward to trying. Oh, and as luck would have it, Cow Town Urban Eatery was on site with some 'on point' tacos. It seems that Device maintains a solid food truck game as well. read more

Device is for the IPA fans. I picked this place on a brewery crawl because a lot of my friends are all about the hops. I wasn't a huge fan of the beers I tasted, but it was worth a stop. It's easy to miss, in an industrial area with not much else around. I liked the interior (and the bathroom was clean too!), but I would probably try out another brewery before coming here again. read more

After friends and acquaintances told me to go try out their IPAs, I discovered their awesome belgian style beers. We walked into this place with about an hour left until they closed. My buddy and I ordered a flight of everything they had on tap. I'll break down that flight the same way Regina W does below because I like the way she does it; I'm going to do it by "letter grade" though. Before I get to that however, I just gotta say the staff was very nice (helpful) and the place was clean with the tap room about three-quarters full before closing on a Friday night. It's a cool little tasting area, and everyone seemed to be enjoying themselves. As for the flight, some quick notes... I'm glad some craft beer friends told me to go check out their IPAs, but it was for all the wrong reasons. In all frankness, none of their IPAs blew me away. Integral was probably the most drinkable out of the bunch and the rest were not as impressive as I had hoped. Maybe the hype caught me by surprise and let me down. BUT!!! One thing I should mention... I have never enjoyed a Black IPA from anywhere, until I walked into Device. I'm not a fan of the style, probably because I haven't tried one I like, but the Pale as Night from Device gave me hope that there are more out there that I might enjoy. I drank all four ounces. It was almost like conquering broccoli which I still haven't been able to do... The rock stars in this flight for me were clearly the Belgians. I liked both the Blonde Ambition Belgian Strong Ale and the Double You Belgian-Style Dubbel. After the flight, I ordered a glass of the Blonde Ambition. It has a really good flavor with solid character that most Belgian fans would love. I'm a fan! Great beers! As much as I loved the Belgian style samples, a lot of the flight was left with four ounce glasses a little less than half full. My buddy didn't really care for the beer here, but he did order a pint of Integral IPA after we made our way through the flight. As promised, here is the breakdown of everything I tried... IPAs: Me Too D Integral B+ Anguish. C+ Basilica. C Pale as Night. C+ PALE/BLONDES: Bottomtooth. D Kid Casual. A Nosegrind. B Derby Gurl Amber C DARKS/BELGIANS: Blonde Ambition. A+ Double You. A+ Brits in Moscow. C It is always important to remember that people like what they like. As I mentioned earlier, my buddy wasn't a fan of Device -- and he told me that he wouldn't be back (famous last words that have caught up to him in the past). He is a big IPA fan. It is pretty much all he drinks. He'll try anything and everything, but he will typically settle for a double IPA when it comes down to a full-pour commitment. My palate is a bit more refined than his as I like many different styles of beer, including Belgians (obviously), sours, stouts, whites and even a good pilsner. I can tell you for a fact... Device brews great beer. If someone tells you to go somewhere to try something specific, GO! If you don't like what was recommended, try a few other options. Odds are you will find something you love. I did! Four Stars! I will definitely be back! read more

I stopped in yesterday to meet my son for a beer tasting. He has been here before and is a fan. Well now I am a fan too. I LOVED the flight I tried. The worse thing about this place is trying to choose a beer, they are all amazing. I am still mad I didn't buy some for home. I guess I will just need to go back there soon. I went to this place for the first time last night. In fact, what sealed the deal was when I emailed the brewery owner at about 3:30 with questions about my dog and TVs (Thursday Night Football) and he responded to me quickly, assuring I would be satisfied with what they had to offer. I was. My dog is allowed INSIDE. When it's cold like it is now, that's a huge plus. I have always loved going to Track 7 on a hot day with my pooch, but in this weather, it's tough for me to visit a spot that doesn't let him cozy up with me indoors. The beer is GREAT! But even better is the variety. I am not an IPA fan, but the boyfriend is, and I hate having to go to places that don't have alternatives to the IPA crazy CA beer scene. Device has a vast variety of beers, and the $2 tasters were a great way to figure out what I liked before I committed. They also had fun glass sizes, all the way to proper Belgium glassware, to half pints for those who want a little more without buying a full glass. The people who worked there were great, the atmosphere was great, and the sausage food truck they had was BOMB. I was disappointed when I pulled up with the promise of a food truck and saw this one man establishment in what looked to be a tiny trailer kitchen. Looks can be deceiving because the unique homemade sausages and funky homemade condiments (like a caramelized tomato ketchup and a Serrano chili aoli) were incredible. I no joke ate a whole sausage and then an hour later got another one because it was so delicious. I heard the sausage guy frequents Device. AKA... I will be back. A+ rating from me. One downside is I wish there was one other TV in the middle of the room. We got a back table and it was hard to watch the game, but moved up for the second half when a table cleared out. When I walked into the brewery around 4:15 PM on a Thursday, there were folks already enjoying brews in the seating area (it opens around 3 PM). I was immediately welcomed and the proprietor offered to help me choose some brews. I asked for the hoppiest one that they had and he gave me samples of three of their IPAs. Although they were all very good, the Anguish Double IPA was a standout. Picked up a growler of it, headed home and that night I was in heaven. read more

Im so glad I happen to literally stumble upon Device one day. Ive been going there for almost 2 years now, and yes that means I found the place 3-4 months after it opened. They had like 5 beers on their board at the time and I have to say I loved 4 out of the 5 of them. It wasn't the first local brewery I had been to that was a warehouse situation but it was the classiest one, with materials that are common and simple, I knew this place had something going for them. Ken and Melissa have been very welcoming and friendly since my first visit, to my most recent, today. As it goes I am going to make this short and simple because I could rave about the place for awhile but who wants to read that. If your an IPA person, you'll love the place no question about it. The Belgians are amazing and smooth. The Russian Imperial Stout will send you home craving more. The rest of them are great but to be honest I have gotten stuck on the 2x and 3x IPA and the stout, oh and the Integral, a collaboration they did with the famous Stone Brewing Co. Today was no exception to the level of brewing abilities he has to offer when they dropped the collaboration with Knee Deep Brewing. A double IPA named Freakish. Strong smooth and no super hoppy bite at the end, leaves this a dangerously good IPA and another major notch in the craft brew community. Located off of Power Inn. The end tenant so you'll see it right away. Help yourself to pretzels and/or a cup of water. They didn't have beer flights but they can give you a taste and sell you a half pint, pint.. a growler.. I tried all of the beers. Yeah, I purchased one of everything just to try it and I didn't like any of them. It was crazy busy and seemed to be well received but personally, the beers weren't for me. We live really close to this place, and so figured we'd mosey down and give it a try. I wasn't really expecting much, considering it's in the warehouse district off 14th ave. Once inside though, you'd think you were in a hipster paradise in the heart of the city. It's a small space with creative seating options - wine barrels as tables, a regular bar, and a shelf bar on the back wall. When we went on a Saturday afternoon, it was a full house, but there was plenty of seating at the bar. We ordered their Blonde, which was very good for a hot summer day. My husband also got their stout, which was rich and delicious (ok, I tasted his too). Three beers set is back $18. There were two guys working, and both were very helpful. No complaints on the service front. I did notice their hours on the door are not the same as the hours on Yelp - I believe they're open a little later now. We went here at the suggestions of some fellow beer lover friends who enjoyed their beer. We had a great experience and found the owners to be very friendly. We also really enjoyed all of their beers. I really like that they had such a selection, it seems as if most of the area loves their IPA's and put a heavy emphasis on one type of beer instead of having a selection. I've been to just about every brewery in Sac and this is my favorite place. It is small but don't let the size fool you. They have some of the best beer PERIOD. If you like good STRONG craft beer, you will like this place. A lot of places that I go to have one really good beer that I usually stick to but this place has 4-5 of them. If you like IPA, I would skip the Integral(single) and the Anguish(Double) and go straight for he Basilica(3x). It is one of the best IPA I've ever had. I would say this is even better than the legendary pliny the elder. Brits in Moscow is a lovely russian imperial stout and another one of my favorite. The Blond Ambition took me by surprised when they first released it and quickly became one of my favorite The only thing sucks about this place is they are only open Thursday-Sunday. Tip: Don't go there on a empty belly, the food truck there sucks, so eat before you go there. read more

Tasty beers and fun environment. They have serve yourself water and popcorn and a friendly staff. The S.O. and I shared 2 flights of 4. The IPAs were very similar, with subtle differences in boldness and hops. The stout was delicious (I wish they sold the stout as a growler) and the cream ale was a really good second. I like that they have half pints and regular pints because I like darker beers which tend to have a higher alcohol content. Definitely will be going back and will try my hand at jenga. ONLY downside is the seating is not very comfy. It's a place more to stand around and chat than sit down with your beer. read more

After going to Bike Dog, New Glory, Rubicon, Track 7, New Helvetia, Auburn Alehouse, Loomis Basin among others I must say Device is well rounded and earns its stars on atmosphere, beer quality, beer variety, smiles, and overall look. I tried all and was able to sample them before I decided. If you like a friendly place to have a pint this is where to go. I won't lie its a warehouse setting but the owners made it a worthwhile visit. Lastly, I must say Luna is a cool addition to the mix. A friendly dog that'll ask for pats every now and then. read more
