My first introduction to Porchlight was on Thanksgiving, as The Run to Feed the Hungry ends near the intersection. I always get a strong sense of community whenever I visit. It's a friendly, welcoming spot with great craft beer, a relaxed atmosphere that's never too loud, and it's the perfect place to catch up with a friend over beers and their delicious hummus and pita chips from the Bay Area. They also host a variety of food trucks. It's a great place to start a mini crawl, with plenty of excellent restaurants within walking distance. It's a vibe, and a good one. Interesting location between several busy streets and not hard to find. The parking if limited to some spots on the street in a small parking lot right next to the outdoor seating. Some of this lot is taken up by the Taco Truck. The chicken and rice book was very good. The truck's drinks looked like they have been rattling around in the ice less bin for quite some time. To be fair, this is a small bar. I don't drink alcohol or coffee. So the options were very limited to chilled water which was nice to have available and juice. I had apple juice and water which was fine. The bartender was a nice man and the right amount of social with his customers. Despite the small bar itself, the two TV screens are a decent size with good quality pictures of two different sports (golf and soccer at the time). My wife and I had to kill some time in the Sac State area before going out to check out a basketball game out there,so I jumped on Yelp and looked for something in the area that looked appealing and Porchlight Brewing was an easy choice. When we got there they had the NFL playoffs playing on a couple of TVs,so we grabbed a couple of bar stools and sat at the bar to see what selection of beers they had to offer.The lady behind the bar was super friendly,she offered us samples of various beers since this was our 1st time at this place-I love that. We decided to give a few beers a try,price ranging from $8 to $8.50 for a 16 ounce mug of beer. We went with these 4 beers. 1. Lazer Blowfish-a New England-style Hazy IPA-it was awesome tasting-went down so smooth. 2.Deep Cuts-a West Coast-style IPA-for those IPA lovers who do not want a Hazy,this is an excellent choice-even smoother than the Lazer 3.El Lado Oscuro-a Dark Lager-some people can't handle dark lagers but this one was really good-this one had me almost ordering it a second time. 4.Brain Fog-a Wheat Beer-not sure what it means exactly but of all the beers we had,this one was finished faster than all the others-it was really good. They had a few more beers I wanted to try,Porch Lite & The Implication but time was working against us,I will definitely be back to try those 2 when I'm in the area. The parking at this spot sometimes can be a little tricky as not too many spots on the property but there is plenty of street parking,so just park there if you can't find a spot. Overall I for sure recommend this spot,I think my favorite thing was the vibe this place gave-the customers were all age ranges from families with kids,to young people hanging watching the game,even spotted a few people who were a touch older than you would expect-that's what I liked the most,a place where all ages were welcome and everyone was having a great time-that's what I will remember this place the most for. Really wanted to like this place, but my friend and I felt like we had mistakenly visited a bouncy house or kids play ground. We sat outside at tables to the left of the food truck. While enjoying our beers and waiting for our food, two couples with four young kids entered the area and turned an otherwise peaceful afternoon into a screaming chaotic mess. The kids ran around and under the tables, hit us several times with bean bags and balls, drew on the tables, including ours, with chalk and walked over the table tops, all while the parents did nothing. Although the noise was deafening, no one at the facility did anything either. The beer was average also. Won't go back, will not recommend. Came in for the first time to attend a Paint and Pints event on 9/13 with Gabby T. There is extremely limited parking; businesses across the street from there let people park only after 6PM. I parked on the street in front of the self-storage place from 6-8PM. That night, they also had a food truck Poco D Todo. "Not your average taco truck -- make sure to try the famous tacodillas (tacos with a crispy cheese skirt) and Todo Tots (loaded tater tots with your choice of meat." They also had giant quesadillas as the special item that evening. I went with one carne asada tacodilla and one carnitas tacodilla, which was ready in about ten minutes. The marinade/salsa was interesting in a good way, couldn't exactly place what the flavor was that made the tastebuds tingle (other than the cheesy skirt). I tried their Porch Lite lager which was at 4.8% ABV and on the hoppy side. For the remainder of the class, I had one of their craft sodas/root beers. Gabby got their Sour (either rhubarb or cherry?). They also had Nitty Cider, a smoky Porter, coconut Imperial Stout, Pale Ale, IPA, and a dry hopped Saison. Great bar service, and you could sample anything on draft. The painting class was held indoors, with a big industrial fan to keep that area cool by the bar. Dog-friendly inside and on the patio too. The class itself was led by instructor Liz and the subject/theme was to paint a Saguaro [Cacti] Sunset scene. Paints and Pints is women-owned and always held at local craft breweries, sign up on Eventbrite. $5 less for kids or designated drivers, otherwise $30 for 21+ which includes the class and one beverage. Porchlight is my neighbor brewery and it just has this comfort place in my heart. Good beer, great staff and the food trucks are always the best! Location is on 57th street and parking is either street parking or the 7 spots they have in the parking lot. Riding your bike is the best bet! Porchlight is nestled on the edge of East Sac and brings is a great community vibe. Ages range from probably 21-60. Always a kind and welcoming environment. Let me start off by saying that I'm not super into beers but I'm always open/down to try them. I had some time to spare so I decided to go to a brewery and get their flight. It came with 6 - 4oz beers and was about $18. Pretty cheap and I like the fact that I got to choose 6 not the typical 4. Me and friend split the flight so I chose 3 and he chose 3. I chose the Cider, Sidewalk Smooches and Straw Cherry beer. I prefer sours and cider. The strawcherry was my favorite. Pretty sour but it really did taste like strawberries and cherries. The cider was delicious,tasted just like cider and the sidewalk smooches was my least favorite but still good. Please note they do have seating inside and outside. Seating inside is a bit limited but it wasn't busy when I went and I was able to sit inside. Outside has heat lamps so it's not super cold but the tables are not covered so you will get wet if its raining. They also have a few board games you can play at the table. read more

Stopped by here as it was just down the street from the Bier Garden off Elvas. It is located directly across from the antiques store row, so you could park there if nothing was open at the brewery which only has about 6 parking spots. Went on a Sunday afternoon and the brewery was rather sleepy. We tried a few beers and the beer was good overall. Not the best I have had but definitely very drinkable. This is the first time I've been back to this brewery in years. They've opened up the space to blend the inside with the patio outside in a way that gives it a nice open cantina vibe. In an era that tries to maximize seating space to emphasize openness and good airflow, this achieves the goal. This place likes to overhop beers. It seems to be geared towards the IPA extra bittering sensibilities side of things. This is a a positive thing if you're a fan of the IPA train. Not so much if you prefer more balanced beers. (Even the kölsch is bitter.) After trying a very bitter Marzen and a pretty hoppy porter, I settled on enjoying a nice, not over sweet blackberry and cherry cider that they had on tap. Porchlight Brewery - Sacramento , CA - August 2, 2023 After a late morning/early afternoon 3 1/2 hour session of guitar playing with my good friend, I got a quick burrito at a local fast food Mexican spot (something like Alberto's) in Carmichael and then headed out in search of some crowler beer cans for my collection, and beer for me. First stop, High Water Brewery, near 65th Street. They were not open yet at 2 pm, so I moved on and landed at Porchlight a couple miles away. I had been to this location five or six years ago when it was under a different name and ownership. Beer was good as I recall, but the previous owner was clueless about his clientele and destroyed his brand with stupid political statements that turned people away. Parking here is a challenge. There are 4 or 5 spots in their lot and limited parking on the street. At 2:15 in the afternoon, I had to park about 75 yards away and didn't see a lot of other open spots around. There were less than 10 people at the brewery when I arrived, so not sure who owned all the other cars on the street. The brewery is cozy, with a nice bar, a few indoor tables, a video game, TVs on the wall, covered outdoor seating, and a nice display with swag (hats, shirts, beer paraphernalia, etc). I immediately recognized Cassandra behind the bar. She had been the bar keep over at Logoff Brewery nearby where I live in Rancho Cordova. So it was great to see her and catch up a little bit on the local beer scene. Normally an IPA drinker, I was in the mood for something a little lighter on this hot summer day, so I decided to do the Porch Lite Lager. Good choice! Cold, light, and refreshing. At 4.8% ABV, I think I'll have another! My good friend Dave called a little while later to ask what I was up to. As it turned out, he was only a couple miles away, so he showed up a short time later and we had two more! Sac is putting itself on the map with so many great breweries in the area. This was a great spot for me to check out as I was waiting for my brunch reservation. They had plenty of open seating indoor and outdoor and the staff was very nice. I asked for something more on the citrusy side and they recommended a pale ale that was very delicious. For the price of $8 a pint I'd come back! They have a pretty extensive menu so don't be afraid to give your preferred beer suggestions when ordering. read more

I've been stopping by here once in a while during the Covid..... As far as I know, they are following the rules while operating. I really enjoy their dark beers to-go. Even though they don't have a huge selection, seems like they rotate their beers. They have a little bit of every beer, and it is really well made. One of my favorites was Rear View Mirror that I could fill a Crowler to go! The workers there were all nice and helpful. No issues just yet. The parking can get a little tricky, as they share it with a barber shop next door. Also, trying to back out of their lot can be a little difficult. But there seems to be adequate street parking nearby. read more

Wandered in as part of our I5 journey south from Seattle. We had chosen a restaurant nearby, but also wanted to sample some of the Sacramento beer scene. We hit the jackpot! We sat at the bar and were engaged by the tap room manager. He was curious about our trip, we were curious about his taps, so we swapped stories and tasted their offerings. All of them! Towards the End of Summer Events. This is the first time we have visited this Brewery and we were pleasantly pleased. Today they had a Barks and Brews event. This was a hit!! The Brewery had an Awesome selection and the PourOligists (I made up that name because they were so professional) were extremely busy today. Most everyone that attended had very well behaved pets and it was a pleasure being around them. I have to say the Barkcuteriebybrynna was a hit like always. Bryanna and Vinny are so fun to be around and when you walk up they welcome you like a friend. So Nice! We also had homemade Pizza by Chavious Pizza. You could see and taste this was made out of love and she probably started by making this for her own family. Like I always say.... Goood or bad I will always give a review on my personal experience. A little bit of beer is a nice feeling. No complaints. Sacramento State has an Army ROTC Program and an Air Force /Space Command ROTC Program. We have a young cousin living at home with his Veteran parents while he currently attends Sacramento State University on a 3-year Active Duty ROTC Department of Aerospace Studies scholarship to get a Computer Engineering undergraduate degree. We just don't pay any added automatic gratuity or merchant fees as we pay only for what we had bargained for upfront and received. No one here offered to commit fraud to reward us, pay us or compensate us for posting 5 star reviews of this business. Decided to try a new brewery today and so happy to come across Porchlight! We found a table in the shade on this warm Sunday afternoon. I love sours so the Blood Orange Creamsicle sour was right up my alley! It was deliciously different and tart. My guest had the Victor Vienna Mexican lager which was also really good and very smooth. There was a vegan place selling food and now I can't remember the name of it.... Hungry Rabbit maybe? Anyway, tried their vegan quesadilla which was pretty good for being vegan. Randomly discovered this little gem in East Sac during COVID despair drinking days. Porchlight is probably my favorite brewery in Sac, because their sours are to die for. Fruity, lip puckering, and perfect. During the summer they had isolation smooches & grandma's cherry a la mode. The cherry a la mode was just perfection. You can see by my other reviews that I've been coming here for a while. I still like it, but I want to give a little advice. You can take it or not. I'll probably still come back until I can't anymore. There's a person there that treats you so coldly if she didn't recognize you. Which sucks because I have been coming here for a while but if you don't remember me that's ok, I just hate being treated differently. When I worked at a coffee shop we had a thing that we would teach something called Bob and not Bob. Essentially, the baristas were super friendly to the regulars that they knew, they would be chipper, polite, having a small rapport ( nothing more than just being a good human) but then the customer that they didn't know they would get flat, keep it short and unfriendly. I went take away stars for this but I feel like maybe think about it and just do a temperature check. My interaction was sad because I'm very friendly, I ask how the person is doing, what they recommend, etc and I get back a blank stare, pretty much everything, and then they talk to the person at the bar that they know with a pleasant attitude. We had just stopped by Sactown Union and thought that since we were in the neighborhood we should stop by Porchlight. We had not been here since it changed from a previous brewery. We sat at the bar and ordered a sampler. The staff was very friendly and gave us some information regarding a couple of the beers we were trying. We really enjoyed the Bro Church which is a porter and the Knockout Stout. They don't offer food at the brewery but there was a sign that you could order from Evan's Kitchen on certain days. It's a bit of a different vibe from that other place... There's a talented country band playing in the corner, some new beers, and a portable pizza pie place parked in the lot. The change feels good! Regardless of the reasons the place seems less stale and more colorful. The new beers are tasty! I particularly like the Beacon Summer Honey Wheat and East Sac Bitter Pub Ale better than anything I drank under the old name. Not that those beers were bad. I just like the new ones better. Porchlight was not on our radar but a friend suggested we stop by and give it a try. It was a great recommendation! The atmosphere is very casual with indoor and outdoor seating. Service is great and the staff is very friendly and knowledgable. We tasted a few beers and all of them were very good. We ended up taking a mixed four pack of ales and a reasonably priced six pack of Porch Lite, their lager. (If we were in their sales region, this would join Sierra Nevada Pale Ale in our regular rotation.) The Pride of Armarillo and Laser Blowfish were smoother and less bitter than many of IPAs out there. Their porter Perfect Hair had a nice roasted flavor but pleasantly light (compared to most porters and stouts). Near Sacramento State, it's definitely worth a visit or two! read more
