Ozzie Burger '26
Mark M.

Ordered a carry out for dinner. Quick and easy online ordering. Went with the Ozzie burger and Brussels sprouts. 15 minutes so by the time I walked there my order was ready. When I got back to my room to eat the burger was dry and under seasoned. Bacon, cheese, and sauce was good along with the toasted bun. I only had a couple brussel sprouts bc they were fried and very greasy. Stomach did not feel great after muckin all those seed oils.

Convenient location downtown for a quick happy hour. We went during HH and it was basically empty and unfortunately the service was minimal. We intended to order food but couldn't based on the slow response and time constraint we were on.

Overall we had a pretty decent experience. The server was very attentive. I had the steak and bacon salad, which was good. I enjoyed the bacon vinegarette a lot. I got it without the blue cheese. It just isn't for me. We were there during happy hour, but it wasn't really mentioned or anything. I also had the Sonful Pearsuasion and The Trophh wife. Both cocktails were good. I enjoyed them. The restaurant wasn't as busy as I thought it would be for a Friday night with an event going on at orchestra hall, so I was somewhat surprised with that. Overall it's a decent restaurant. Nothing special about the ambiance and the food was good.

Been here a few times before, this time my friends asked me to meet them for a late dinner. Parking in this area is not my favorite but downtown is usually like that. I was a little late and just ordered some wings. They came out pretty quick but the first wings I but into was cold on the inside. Service is always pretty good here and I really love the space. Cool bar area and some lounge areas with couches. I've had good drinks here before but food is hit or miss for me.

I stopped in at Devil's Advocate in Minneapolis and was seriously impressed. I went with the Ozzie Burger and opted for the Beyond Burger patty -- easily one of the best plant-based burgers I've had in a while. The texture was spot on, and the flavors came together beautifully with the toppings. You can tell they put real care into their ingredients and preparation. I needed something to sip on so, I had a bourbon old fashioned, and it was perfectly balanced -- smooth bourbon, just the right touch of sweetness, and a nice citrus finish. Unfortunately they were out of my favorite - Buffalo Trace! Our server Elijah deserves a special shoutout. He was attentive, personable, and made excellent recommendations that really elevated the experience. The ambiance is what sealed the deal for me. The cozy lighting and the fireplace gave the whole space an intimate, welcoming feel -- perfect for a laid-back dinner or date night. Overall, Devil's Advocate nails that balance of great food, craft cocktails, and warm atmosphere. I'll definitely be back especially since it's so close to Dakota Jazz.

Food 4/5 Dessert 5/5 Service 3.5/5 Ambiance 5/5 Overall 4/5! Cute place in downtown! Food was great, my pasta was light on seasoning but I can appreciate that. Decent selection on wine selection, some beers on tap, and cocktails! Their drinks menu was a bit wrinkled but can still read. Inside the ambiance is cute, bar area and dining area. A little fireplace looking thingee. Dessert all looked super legit but I didn't taste or try any. Everyone said those weee superb! Should have ordered one.

Visited Devil's Advocate with a large group (15+) the Tuesday after Memorial Day for work. The decor and ambience were great, and the menu had options for all diets. However, they don't offer bottled water, which was surprising and disappointing for a restaurant of this caliber. We had truffle fries, beet salad, and bread to start, none of which were impressive. I ordered the salmon medium well, and it was just okay. Our server, Bran, was kind and started off strong, but it was clear he was overwhelmed by the size of our group. The other staff member was unhelpful and standoffish. For a big reservation, better staffing and planning were definitely needed. As someone visiting from out of state, I wish we had chosen a different spot. Wouldn't return, even for free. The stars are for Bran's effort. It would have been one stars. The female server that night really had a bottom of the barrel attitude. I really wonder if service is the field that she should be in. Do not eat here even if your job is paying for it it's not worth it.

Tried out this place for happy hour and the best thing was the food. We went on a Thursday, and while it was busy around 4:30, everyone had cleared out by 7:30. We were the second to last group inside. Parking is a little challenging because the place id right on Nicolette Mall, but it is convenient if you park at a ramp downtown for work, and then just walk over. The Brussel sprouts and the parmesan fried were very very good. Super flavorful and savory. I wasn't super impressed with the drink menu, (I ordered the prosecco form the HH menu but didn't like it- to sweet) so I would stick to beer next time. I would go back for lunch to try more of their food, but wasn't impressed with the drink selection. I wish I could give this a provisional 3.5 rating.

While we're all foodies, I'm the Yelper in my circle. I put a lot of effort into my reviews, and I tend to make note of overall review consensus when I gauge whether to even invest my time and money into a potential experience. All that to say - *excuse me* - but how on earth did Devil's Advocate with its cheeky name, chill vibes, incredible fare, awesome service, and sassy AF kickass owner garner a mere 3.6 rating on Yelp? Seriously? Warning - I can already tell this one's going to be an essay. First thing: We didn't intend to end up here. Our circle had just left an event a few blocks away at after 10 pm and were in search of a spot to chat and nibble. We went through so many options before settling on nearby Brit's Pub, admittedly more due to lack of options than an actual craving for, say, bangers and mash. Their kitchen was closed for the night. Darn, but yay, because we all love food adventuring. Brit's Pub staff graciously pointed us directly across the street, to Devil's Advocate. 3.6 rating. Err... Fiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiine. Hesitantly. We enter, and the vibe is chill, not nearly as loud as it could be, and dark while still feeling open and modern, not heavy, stuffy, dated, or depressed. A hostess leads our group to a table directly between the two main clusters of guests. Smart, as this gives us the ability to chat without needing to raise our voices to compete with our surroundings. Our server appears, and she is a vibrant ball of energy. She asks if we're having cocktails. With this being a short visit and half of us driving, we declined, and it didn't change her warm, welcoming manner one bit. We stick with our waters and order up. Truffle fries, steak tips, fat cowboy burger, churro cheesecake slice, and the Minnesota grain bowl and Korean BBQ chicken sandwich both split in half. The truffle fries, being a starter, arrived first - and were inhaled in literally five minutes between five pairs of hands. Easily the best fries any of us had had in a while. When our server returned to check on us, we raved about the fries, obviously, to learn that our impeccably-dressed server was actually one of Devil's Advocate's partners, Carissa, who had auditioned no less than 75 french fry options before selecting the ones on our very quickly emptied shared plate. Our food followed soon after. All except the churro cheesecake - the very last slice had just been served, so Carissa comped a berry cheesecake covered in a mountain of berries and exotic dragonfruit. We could not find fault with our food. To clarify, we're not the type to look for flaws. We were just that wowed by the quality of everything that we all actively considered that thought. Literally the one complaint we had was the chicken in our salad being quite dry. One friend's biggest frustration was deciding whether he preferred the steak tips with or without its accompanying white BBQ sauce. On a table full of food covering a variety of dishes, that's quite impressive. The shining star of the show, however, was definitely Carissa. The vibrant woman is a fireball of sass, and we love her for it. We're definitely coming back to visit - next time, to visit Carissa and grab cocktails. I do wonder if a heavy dose of sass here might have contributed to what I feel is a genuinely baffling rating average. That and this being right by Orchestra Hall and therefore often getting guests who drop in with minimal time for cocktails and a bite before the show they're waiting to go see. PS: Local bartenders, security, and event staff get discounts, so definitely drop by!

"A little bite of heaven at The Devil's Advocate!" Before my review, I want to highlight that Alex has definitely been the best server we have had in the 7 days that we have been in Minneapolis! Dude was hella funny, knowledgeable and so much fun to be around we wanted him to pull a chair up and join us! Thanks brother for the awesome experience! Let me just say -- if you walk into The Devil's Advocate and don't order the Juicy Lucy, you're doing it wrong. This burger is an absolute showstopper. Perfectly cooked, cheesy in all the right ways, and packed with flavor in every bite. It's the kind of burger you don't talk through -- I travel a lot and always get burgers and this is hands down the best I've ever eaten in my life. The fried parmesan brought all the deliciousness together! Before the main event, we started with the beet bruschetta, which was unexpectedly amazing. Tangy, earthy beets over crispy toast with just the right balance of creamy and crunch -- honestly, it could've been a meal on its own. And don't sleep on the Brussels sprouts. Crispy edges, slightly charred, tossed in whatever magic glaze they use were definitely the best I've eaten all week! The vibe? Chill, modern, but still cozy. Service was on point, and the 1919 root beer Alex suggested was Highly recommend -- come hungry and leave plotting your next visit.

Philly and Caesar salad. Ok. Not great.
Nicholas L.

First, the decor, atmosphere and layout are great. Services was great too. I wasn't a fan of the food. We ordered the beet bruschetta and steak tips appetizers and while I loved the beet one, the steak tips were over done and very chewy and I'm not a fan of Alabama white sauce. I could see how others would love it, but it wasn't for me. For dinner I ordered the Philly with a salad and the salad was fine, nothing special. But the Philly wasn't it. No onions for the most part, steak was very over done. The cheese whiz was fine but I'm a cooperating sharp fan, to each his own. The biggest issue was the roll was cheap, soft, not toasted and got soggy fast. It wasn't again, fine, but felt like they were cheating out on ingredients. Split a pizza with a friend (pepperoni, hot honey, pickled jalapeños and onion) and it was under done (soft floppy crust) and sooo many onions it over powered everything. My cocktail though was excellent. I could see coming back for drinks, because I dug the vibe, but the food needs work.

Nice menu options, food was fairly quick and good. Service could have been better, they didn't have enough servers on a fairly busy Monday night. There is a very cool fireplace but the rest of the place was typical industrial sort of look, kind of cold. Speaking of cold, they left a door open and the cold wind blew right in. I would have rated a 3, but I think they just happened to be having a bad night. Again food was good and that's why I was there...

I loved this place. Atmosphere was good, service was awesome, food was great. Easy walk in downtown Minneapolis. The drink menu was extensive and creative.

When I go to new cities, I typically seek out food that is specific to the region and thus a little more interesting to me. You can get a burger anywhere, and a cheese filled patty, aka a "Juicy Lucy", didn't sound like something I needed to try. But my husband kept talking about it and really seemed bent on having one so we decided to come here to try it out. We showed up during their happy hour, from 4-5pm, and they had $5 draft beers. Score! It's a cute place with ample seating, nice natural light from the large windows, and a relaxed atmosphere. I ordered the Juicy Lucy, a burger patty stuffed with cheese and topped with lettuce, tomato, onion, pickles, and pub sauce. I chose the Impossible patty version, but you can also get it with their house made black bean burger. Hubby chose the Garlic Girl, a black bean cheeseburger topped with bacon (also made in-house), berbere aioli, lettuce, and pickled onion. Each burger came with fries. Both burgers were spectacular and delicious in their own way. The bacon on hubby's burger was incredible, and his burger was rich and satisfying. By my Juicy Lucy, oh my... Every bite was a flavor explosion and intensely delicious without being a gut bomb shockingly. To top it off, the fries were super crispy and just perfect. WOW is all I can say. Note that while the prices may seem a little higher than what you might expect, Francis Burger is a no tipping establishment, as stated on their menu. For the quality of the food and the great service, it was well worth the price! I'll be back if I'm ever in this area again.f

Our only complaint is that the tables are fairly close together and a 2 person table is so small! It kept us from ordering more food, because there would be no place for it to go! Our server was nice. She originally forgot our drinks but admitted it and got them right away. We appreciated the honesty. Our water glasses were always full, we were given wet naps after our delicious wings and plates were taken promptly! Food: We each started with a drink. I got the banana bread old fashioned which may just be my favorite cocktail! My boyfriend got a beer and said it was "ok." We started with the truffle fries and smoked wings in the flavor rum chili. Holy moly! Both of those were spectacular!!! The ranch was just ok, I would probably get the blue cheese next time. Truly though, you don't need to dip these wings, the flavors are amazing on their own!! For our main course, we got the 14oz New York strip steak cooked to a perfect medium and the scallops! Both were out of this world! Very well done! I would absolutely recommend this place to anyone! It is truly a gem in the cities!
