This was my first time eating from Devil's. I got delivery to a local hotel. First I love good wings and pizza. I travel weekly across the country. My favorite spot in Durham. It my be advertised as a pizzeria but my favorite foods are the subs and strombolis. I haven't found one thing on the menu that I don't like. We always get great service but at peak times it can be very busy. If you are doing a large order or walking in at lunch be prepared to wait. It's busy for a reason. read more

I came in with my son and his friend for pizza, wings, and a calzone. I have to say it was very impressive. The wings were cooked perfect and seasoned just right. The pizza slices were delicious. DELICIOUS pizza. I could taste the fresh herbs in the marinara sauce. Very friendly staff. The pizza takes awhile to make so I would order ahead but I didn't mind the wait. The inside of the pizzeria is old school and has an 80's vibe which is awesome because there aren't many restaurants like that around. I moved back to California and the pizza out here does not have the same quality/taste that Devil's has and I miss Devil's so much. Yelp doesn't fail me often, but it did with this place... oh boy did it ever. I was at Duke on business and decided to go and get a couple of slices based on the reviews. The good: the slices are HUGE. That's about it it for the good. The bad: the crust is like cardboard, and the pizza is impossible to fold. Any good New York style pizza has to be foldable, especially when the slices are so large. The toppings were pretty bad, like discount pepperoni and sauce that came from a can. If they make it themselves, they might want to try canned. It has been a long time since I left a place and wished I could uneat what just ate. Definitely will not be back here again. read more

They were not very upfront with what was going and how long I'd wait. Good evening, For starters, the pizza they brought was cold with the wrong toppings, two My food is an hour late after the expected delivery time. It should be noted that the drivers may have multiple deliveries to make and if it's going to be an hour I'd like to know. Honestly, if I lived 20 or 30 mins away I'd understand, but I don't. It's so close. I live exactly 9 minutes from this place and I ordered it on my way home from work and it's taken TWO HOURS TO GET HERE. I would have just gone and picked it up, I would have just ordered from somewhere else. I am 1 never ordering from here again and 2, telling everyone I know and meet from here on out to not order from here. All I wanted was my food for game of thrones. Y'all have me absolutely fuming. My new favorite quick pizzeria in town!! I've desperately been searching for the perfect fettuccine alfredo and this place is never disappointing! Their pizza slices are huge and filling and always cooked perfectly, I love the sweetness of the dough and the sauce is so flavorful and fresh! The workers are so welcoming and the order always comes out perfect and I'm shocked the prices are so affordable for the quality of the food and service! Fra diavolo should be spicy, but this pasta had no flavor other than burning--it tasted like they accidentally dumped in the entire bottle of pepper flakes and forgot the herbs. Just a "blah" pizza. The sauce was so watery it made the whole pie inedible. Soggy crust is a big no-no for me. I had to use a spatula just to get the slices out. Flavor was lacking in the slice I ate. Sub was also soggy. Toppings fell out of the bottom of it when picked up. I gave them one star, which I stand by, and may have speculated about their business model, which may have suggested it was less than scrupulous, which I retract. Against my better judgment and accepting the advice of Yelp, tonight I went back to Devil's Pizzeria. They have made some gentle improvements to their layout and also seem to be far more welcoming to guests than was the case in my previous experience. The slices are as big as yo head but only so-so in flavor. Still better than the previous time I was there but just not great. Nothing much more to say. Durham is a veritable wasteland of good slices and this place does little to change that. Please don't flag this post like you did last time. The service was friendly. The place had adequate lighting. I don't know, I'm trying to be honest here. I kind of wish I had my $8 back but it wasn't awful. Solid two stars. read more

Sigh. I came here over a year ago and was delighted to find they had tasty chicken tenders, with actual chicken meat hiding under the fried goodness. Fast forward to today, and it turns out they have started serving up that disgusting mechanically separated chicken-like product, breaded and fried. We recently ordered pizza from Devils Pizzeria, one just cheese with 2 toppings added and one chicken parm pizza. The chicken parm was perfectly done and delicious. That was the good. The bad: we were given a time of 15-30 minutes for preparing our order. My son arrived 25 minutes after placing the order and it wasn't ready. Understandable so he waited. And waited. And waited, another almost 40 minutes longer. When he returned home, he had 2 nice hot pies in hand. Great, right? Not so fast. While the chicken parm was perfect, the cheese pizza was extremely over cooked, with burned cheese on top and a VERY black crust that tasted like fireplace ashes taste. While I understand that it can take a little more time for some orders to be filled, I also know by experience that it isn't rocket science to bake a pizza correctly. You never ever should serve burned food to a customer. There isn't any excuse for it. Even the busiest places know better. We wound up throwing out half of that burned pizza. I simply cannot endorse this pizzeria. The good pie was terrific but the other one was truly inedible. read more
