We did the smaller size sandwiches which were still quite large, but we were quite hungry and finished them off. They were so good that I even thought about coming back for lunch the next day, but knew there were plenty of delicious restaurants in the area to try. I was the only customer, and the friendly Middle Eastern guy in the food truck asked what I wanted: 2 gyro wraps. He asked if I wanted to add hot sauce to my gyros with tzatziki sauce, and I said, "Yes". I asked him where the food truck is based, he said that he goes to different locations, and didn't mention a permanent location. I checked the address here on Yelp and it says it's based in Durham, NC, which is not too far from here. Each gyro wrap cost $12, and my total came up $26+ (I assume with tax included). I was about to pull out $25 cash but after he said total, I pulled $30, and he said not to worry about it. I insisted to give the $30 and he gave a $5 change. I guess I got a $1 discount. He finished cooking both gyros in about 12 min., a bit longer than I expected, considering I was the only customer he was serving at that time. The gyro wraps were served inside a small paper bag, and wrapped in aluminum foil. I was quite surprised at the size of the order for 2 gyros. When I opened my gyro wrap, the size looked regular yet a bit smaller that what I had in last October's State Fair, which was fine, considering the State Fair gyro (which came with side of Greek fries) cost me $18+. However, unlike that State Fair gyro, I did not enjoy A1's main specialty. I would have to agree with what the previous reviewer Renee said, "Onions does not make a Gyro make". I love onions but not too much on my Gyro; this one is loaded with so much onions, lettuce, and tomato to the point that it's drowning the flavors of tzatziki sauce and hot sauce (Did he forget to put it?). The amount of lamb gyro meat didn't seem to justify its $12 price; it's not even spiced well, and the mush of ingredients to hide the fact that it's lacking meat just looked as bad as it tasted. That's not even the worst part. When I ate the gyro wrap, the pita bread tasted soggy, and that unpleasant texture and taste were more emphasized on every bite than the lamb gyro. I was not able to finish it; and just threw my leftover away. As I'm writing this review, my girl hasn't eaten her gyro wrap yet, and I haven't told her what I thought so she could judge by herself. We recently enjoyed an $11+ gyro in Kebab Skewer in Cary, and a $12+ chicken + lamb over rice at Tasty Halal Eats food truck in Morrisville, NC (both I reviewed here on Yelp), and I'm sad to say that A1's gyro wraps were nowhere close to the food quality of those foods and the State Fair gyro I mentioned earlier. The food truck's friendly customer service and 99% Sanitation Score are the only positive things I could say about this food truck. A1's gyro is clearly the opposite of what "A1" means. Devil's Pizzaria falls between the unique line of gourmet and order-out pizza. A prepped base harkens to the "order-out" end but the real beauty and genius of the pizzas here (the real brain thriller) is ordering the speciality designed slices. The bases are heated to a nice crunchy base with tomato sauce and cheese along with the toppings. One of their unique slices: the Hamburger (I think that's it-I don't remember if it was the Cheeseburger) sounds like a crazy combination-ground beef, cheese, pickles, among other things but the flavor is fantastic! I would definately recommend the Hawaiian-a generous serving of ham and pineapple loaded onto a slice of pizza makes for a great meal. Easy on the pocket but filling and tasty to boot-Devil's Pizzaria is the place to go for late night cravings, mid-day meals, or a very-large snack! Thank you again-I'll be back soon :) read more

Simply delicious! We ate here for the first time a few days ago and haven't stopped talking about how great it was! We are super picky about food and this was one of the best food experiences we have both had in a very long time. We can't wait to try everything else on the menu. We split a cheese steak sub and a feta and spinach stromboli. The ingredients were of good quality, the cheese was excellent, the sauce was perfect, and best of all it was not greasy like other pizza places. We're from NY and have only found a few good pizza places in the whole state of NC. This was only the third time I've had a great cheesesteak in NC. It wasn't a traditional cheesesteak, but it was amazing. We can't wait to go back! The prices were great too. We will be bringing our friends there soon. read more

It's not rare to find New York Style Pizza in any urban city in the U.S. it is rare- rather to find a locally owned establishment that puts as much heart and soul in their food, and masters the Authentic taste and feel of a New York Pizza joint. Nestled nicely on 9th street, a block from Duke University East Campus, and only a mile from the heart of downtown Durham, Devils is THE GO TO place for a quick bite, or a nice meal- or even a catered event. The slices are giant- the ingredients are fresh and delicious- and the prices are fair and very competitive. But the main reason I choose to eat at Devils- and I have for nearly 4 years now- is because I feel welcome. I know I will get damn good pizza- and my visits always end with me full and happy! Tried this place out for lunch today, awesome cheese steaks subs, the meat was well seasoned, prepared to order ( I saw the cook put fresh meat on the grill after we ordered) and they also use Amoroso's Bread, the sub was served with French fries @ no extra charge! Made me feel like I was up in Philly. The other two in my table had chicken wings, a slice of new York style pizza, and also shared a grilled chicken salad. The were very pleased with the food as well, and talked about how they liked the fact the slice was prepared to order and not just sitting in a display like other restaurants. I'm so glad I live close to Devil's. I literally got on Yelp explicitly to write this review. It takes a lot of restraint to not eat there 3 times a week. The guy running the place used to be in the NYC restaurant business, and you can tell. The pastas and pizzas are delicious-- and very filling (I have to take a nap after). Importantly, they're authentic to the little italian joints you find in New York City. I haven't found another place that makes food like this in Durham. Pickup is always easy, I've never tried delivery. Also the Thursday wing deal is off the hook. read more

There is little I have not tried at this restaurant, and nothing that I haven't enjoyed. Devil's is consistently one of the few places that my wife and I can find to deliver late night. The staff is always attentive, courteous, and extremely accommodating. We've become regular customers to the point that this is actually my first yelp review ever ( I think). I recommend the lasagna,.... pizza is great too. The desserts are pretty darn serious to boot. read more

I found out about Devil's Pizzeria through a co-worker at Duke and I have to say by far this place is totally awesome. I particular loved there Teriyaki Lemon Pepper wings. Not over powering with the sauces at all. Everything portioned and seasoned just right. If you ever looking for a good wing spot in Durham this would be it. If there is one recurring thing I miss about living in Durham its the delicious stromboli they make at this location, topped off with a chocolate canoli. somewhat of an intimate setting, depending on if you are sitting in the back patio or the front, and lots of characters working in the kitchen. This is my favorite pizza place in Durham so far. I've been to New York before, got family up there. This pizza is about as close to it as it gets. The sides are inexpensive and full of taste, my friends and I often come just to grab some Onion Rings or Fried Mushrooms. It was nice seeing a kids' play area immediately on the left upon entry. One orders at the counter and then the food is brought to your table (or for takeout). The menu was relatively broad-- sandwiches (like chicken parm), appetizers, pizzas (of course), calzones, and more. What was MOST impressive though was the range of pizzas. You could order a vegan-cheese pizza with vegan pepperoni. Much appreciated as someone who's lactose intolerant! They also had cauliflower/ gluten-free crust options for those who need it. Many creative toppings too. They also had a range of bottled drinks and non-alcoholic beer, too. My dining partner and I got a vegan cheese 14" pizza with vegan pepperoni and green bell peppers. The food came out in maybe 10 minutes. It was quite good-- not the best pizza I've ever had by any means, but loved that it was vegan (yay, no lactose), and it was tasty. The size was perfect-- I "could" finish half, but I'd have been VERY full, so we left with a few pieces of leftovers. Service was great! Even though we had to bus our own tables, the folks cooking asked us how we liked it, chatted us up as we ordered and more. Price was fair. Overall, given the impressive breadth and flexibility of choices, solid quality, and good price, I'd very happily come back.

The dining area is cozy and communal, creating a lively, energetic atmosphere. The ambiance is vibrant--almost overwhelming at times--but it adds to the energy and personality of the place. And the service was fantastic. Matt took great care of us and made the experience even better. Great pizza, great service, and a fun, memorable atmosphere. We'll definitely be back!
