My wife and I tried Dewey's Pizza on their opening day for this location. Before diving into the food, I want to mention that the staff were all 5 star performers. Our drinks barely had a sip taken before someone refilled them. We lost count of how many different people were involved between bringing drinks, bringing food, and topping off drinks. There were at least five different folks, and they each did a great job. We wanted to test all that this joint had to offer, so we hit three courses. First up was a House Salad. This was a large plate of mixed greens tossed with cranberries, goat cheese, pine nuts, and a balsamic vinegar dressing. This salad took my zero expectations and sent them through the roof. Each ingredient was the highest quality and all of the flavors worked well together. We didn't want to stop after our first plate, but needed to save room for the main attraction. Next up were two pizzas. We ordered a 13 inch (their medium size) Ryan's Inferno and a 13 inch pepperoni pizza with red sauce. They came to the table faster than we were expecting and looked great. I am originally from New York. A pepperoni pizza is the metric by which all pizza places are judged. As a point of reference, I am a fan of d'Bronx and Grimaldi's. With that said, the pepperoni pizza at Dewey's was a massive let down. I had no expectations going into the evening, since I had never even heard of this chain (franchise?) before they started construction over the summer. The salad lead me to believe that we were about to experience quality pizza on the same tier as the two establishments I listed above. The prices for each pizza also set that expectation, since all three places offer pies for about the same amount of money. It was with that inflated expectation that the red pizza became a letdown. The crust was fine. It had a mild flavor and the perfect pull-apart texture. It was thick enough at the ends so you could get a solid hold on it. The center was much thinner, which is my preference, to let the sauce and toppings carry the show. The cheese blend added a good amount of savoriness to the dish and was perfectly browned. Where the pizza failed to deliver was the sauce. Tomatoes are a sweet ingredient. I find that the best pizzas capitalize on that sweetness in the sauce to balance savory and spicy ingredients. Dewey's sauce took the route of throwing as much spice as is humanly possible into it. There was so much oregano under the cheese that I cannot in good faith decide whether or not the sauce had any tomato in it. My first reaction to a sauce with that much seasoning is to assume that they are using the lowest quality tomato they can afford. Given that my palate was ready for a sweet sauce, the pepperoni was overpowering. The combination of heavy-handed oregano in the sauce and the spiciness of the pepperoni overwhelmed any flavor the crust and cheese were providing. The closest sauce I can compare it to is a frozen DiGiorno pizza. This certainly wasn't the quality I want for the prices being charged. Both d'Bronx and Grimaldi's are as expensive, but put out a higher quality product. The second pizza was better than the first. I am a fan of spicy food, but the Inferno had zero heat to it. That isn't a mark against it, since it did have a hint of Buffalo wing flavor. I usually avoid pizzas with more than one topping, but my wife wanted to give a white pizza a shot. It is worth a mention that their "white sauce" is a traditional white pizza base. It is just olive oil, garlic, and cheese. For our specialty pizza, buffalo chicken, blue cheese, and red onion were then added on top of that base before baking. Once it is out of the oven, they throw on some chopped celery and give the whole thing a squirt of their house-made peppercorn ranch dressing. All in all, the blue cheese and a mild hint of buffalo were all that we could taste. We were hesitant about bits of celery on a pizza, but it brought a surprisingly refreshing crunch to the dish. After the pizzas were tasted, we moved onto the third and final course. Dewey's supplies rotating dessert options from local companies. On this night, they were featuring a Kahlua chocolate cake from 3 Women and an Oven out of Overland Park. The flavor was balanced between the cocoa and the liqueur. However, the texture was rough and dry. The cake looked and tasted as though it was either recently thawed from a freezer, or left in a fridge for at least a week. The buttercream frosting had all of the moisture pulled out of it, so we mostly ate around it. They definitely have some of the tastiest salads in the area, putting other pizza joints to shame. If their pizzas were better, then I would be raving about this location to everyone I know. With how great the service was and how many options they have, we will be back again to see if other pizzas bring more flavor to the table. read more

It's not the gluten free crust by any means that's give this place 5 stars. The toppings, the service and the atmosphere are pretty stellar. This was not our first choice for lunch one day, but we ended up here and I am glad we did. I ordered the specialty pizza that has fig jam, I LOVE fig jam, and the pizza did NOT disappoint. My husband ordered a meat lovers type specialty pizza and even that was pretty darn good. The flavors all married together beautifully on both pizzas. I had leftovers and pizza never heat ups well (quickly) the following day, this one did. I threw it in the microwave and it was till top notch. Service was impeccable, it was lunch hour and a little slow but the waitress still took care of us and was not complacent. I also ordered their seasonal salad, it had strawberries, goat cheese and macadamia nuts. It was perfect for the season. Price is a little steep, gluten free pizza's added $3-$4 extra and the specialty pizzas are about $18 alone. Definitely not an everyday eating joint, but I would come back again when I was craving a fig jam pizza. They also have a nice covered patio, I wanted to sit outside but the husbands allergies were too bad. read more

Love this pizza! I ordered 11" 1/2 Dr Dre and 1/2 Bronx Bomber. The crust is good/chewy and it doesn't overpower the flavor of the fresh toppings. My favorite of my two choices was the Dr Dre with the peppercorn ranch dip. But the Bronx toppings were great too (I just preferred the olive oil/white sauce over the red sauce). read more

This place was great. Expect LOTS of children (that could be a plus or minus depending on who you are). We had the Harvest Salad to start, it was phenomenal. The classic cheese pizza was perfect, and the Tito Santana pizza was awesome. It is a little spicy for those who can handle the heat. This will be the fourth or fifth visit for us. Now one of our favorite spots. Spotless, inviting space. Wait staff is always superb, attentive and friendly. Love going to a restaurant where they actually let you enjoy your food without feeling rushed and dropping the check midway through your meal. The BEST part about this place is they let you divide your pizza any way you prefer. Kids can get their usual pepperoni and I can try new, different ingredients for myself. Tonight was lemon arugula, prosciutto and rosemary. Delicious! To do this most places, you have to buy two different pizzas entirely. Saves money and having too much leftover. Kids love watching the dough being tossed by the kitchen staff. Great beer and wine selection for the adults, and milk and cookies for the kids. This place has it figured out! read more

My husband, daughter, and I came on a Tuesday night. Dewey's is a good concept, but the execution needs help Service pretty good and the server was very friendly. The caprice pizza really needs balsamic A small note- leave the beer menu on the table so we can reference it for the next drinks. They need a kids menu. Come on. A small 2 topping pizza and drink option for children needs to be happening. My daughter got a massive amount of food (we were celebrating something, otherwise she would have just eaten the pizza my husband and I got, but we wanted her to have her pick). Dr Dre toppings are a great idea, but not cooked enough and still very raw on the pizza. The window to watch them toss the pizza dough is great. My daughter loved it and the cook was great with making it interesting to kids, like puffing dough at kids through the window. We didn't end up getting anything to help serve the pizza to ourselves from the tray, which was odd. I also noticed later on into the meal that the only tables sat in the restaurant were booths and there were two servers standing around with no tables making no money. Why were only booths sat? We would have been perfectly fine at a table. We did not request a booth. So it's favoriting one server or just not caring about the other two servers in the restaurant. It's a really good concept and has the potential to be delicious. It just needs a push. I hope to see some improvements next time we go in, but it won't be for a while. read more

It was our first time here and we loved Deweys Pizza! The ingredient choices are very diverse: they have the standard ones youd expect and also different & eclectic choices. Our fav was the Porky Fig- it was perfect balance of sweet and savory. The meatball pizza was also very good. I am very picky about my meatballs because my Grandma was Italian and made the BEST meatballs! Deweys did not disappoint! And the manager is so nice and friendly. I have been here multiple times with a small group, a large group, even take out. The service is always pretty good and they do a good job of accommodating elders (for reference my grandmother is 94). The have a window to watch the pizza being made which is great for kids. They definitely get busy so you might have a wait. The menu is big and there are a lot of options. I have really liked some of the salads I have ordered before. My reason for my rating is there is something about their crust I don't love. I love the end of it but I always feel like the middle of the pizza is never fully cooked. I guess I feel like the crust is too doughy for me. I do like their cheese a lot and their meatball but I tend to always pick off my toppings, and eat them and the end of the crust leaving the rest of the crust behind. People really love this place but I just don't think the crust is for me. I will stick to the salads! read more

We previously lived in Cincinnati, OH, the home of Dewey's Pizza so we are used to the really great pizza Dewey's serves there. This location is disappointing. We've eaten there 3 times since we moved back to the KC area and each time we've had either really poor service, cold pizza (each time we've eaten there) or gotten pizza that was undercooked or had the wrong toppings. For the price, I would expect more. They do have excellent salads, though. read more

I really used to like Dewey's pizza, it's honestly a pretty great tasting pizza in the Overland Park area. The sauce and crust all have decent flavor and the staff is very pleasant. However, the crust is almost always soggy. It's almost like it hasn't been cooked long enough, whether you eat it there or take it to go. The soggy crust isn't surprising either because the pizza cooks very fast here. The worst part about this establishment is that they have an open kitchen set up. You can see the cooks making your pizza, cleaning up or just hanging out. You would think that because of this they would be very aware of how clean they are and would absolutely be wearing gloves more often than not. Well, that's not the case here. If you eat at the bar you can watch the cooks clean and simultaneously handle your pizza toppings all without gloves. This has been an occurrence every time we've eaten here. We've looked past this slightly gross practice because the pizza was probably our favorite in the OP area and you'd think the heat would/should kill off the random germs. BUT last night we picked up our typical order and found the longest black hair intermingled with the toppings and found it only after it was already in my mouth. Hair in food is an instant turn off and can ruin just about any meal. Some people may be able to move onto another piece and keep eating but for me, that was the last time I'd be frequenting Dewey's. Also, it didn't help that the meatballs were extremely grisly this time around. Overall good pizza, nice staff, soggy crust, awful food handling practices. read more

I won't order anything from here and some clown manager just tried to cheat me - who screws up a $30+ pizza and pretends not to be able to issue a refund and is ready to put you through online customer service? Five stars because even though it takes forever (whatever, it's busy) they must be really good if - oh my God, I've just opened it again and not only was if ordered with no cheese and enough toppings as Martin Luther would order posting a to-go on the door, but it was literally just cheese and bread with no detectable sauce (I peeled away the cheese because it looked wrong. My friend insists she saw traces. We're debating whether it was an undetectably tiny layer in the first place baked into the cheese or on the other hand whether it's even pizza) after waiting for it for ages. Yeah, dude, just give me a gift card for something that's only going to keep me from eating something else for an hour. Keep me on the phone when it would take five seconds and lie about whether you can refund it. I didn't ask for a refund on the tip and I'm not leaving a one-star review like a baby because it's pretty good when they don't get it wrong (about half the time) and you might like it. Too many nice people work there to be petty but when they screw it up (I'm about 50-50 and this is the second in a streak), just so you know, if they tell you they can only give you a gift card even if you push them and say you have to go through an online ordering service (it was a guy in my case but they could all be crooked), that's just dishonesty and greed. I'm going to order another one right now because I am too hungry to think. At this point I don't even care if it's a lump of dough in a box. Five stars. What a joke. read more

What a great new pizza place! To begin, we had wonderful service the entire visit. Our server was very thorough and helpful and on the way out each staff member we passed acknowledge us and said goodbye. And as for the food, delicious! We both had side salads to start. I asked for my dressing on the side and liked it so much (they are all made in house) that I requested a lid to take the rest home. The pizza came out just when we had finished our salads which seemed pretty quick. It was delicious as well! They allow you to split pizzas half and half no matter how different the selections are which we were very impressed by. We took them up on the offer and tried the Bronx Bomber and Green Lantern. Both were great with ample, fresh toppings and delicious crust! We had a tough time choosing which pizza to try from their many great options so we will definitely be visiting again soon. read more
