I have resided in Danville for 13 years. I used to come to this deli since my daughter was very little. The service was always great. I'm unsure if it's under different ownership. My daughter who is now 16 drove all the way there on her lunch to get a sandwich. We haven't been there in years. She came inside to not only not be greeted but to be completely ignored. She stood as 2 people were helped and once it was her turn the ladies talked, gossiped and never said one word to her or took her order. They didn't even acknowledge her. My daughter called confused and upset. So I called the store to see if maybe I could order over the phone, no one answered . I tried a few times. My daughter finally left in tears. Absolutely disgusting and completely unsanitary. I placed my order and was waiting when I noticed the guy making our sandwiches wasn't wearing gloves. Then I saw him wipe his nose with his hand and go right back to preparing sandwiches -- including ours -- with those same bare hands. No gloves, no hand washing, nothing. There were four staff members working behind the counter, and only one of them was wearing gloves. The rest were all touching food, the register, equipment, and who knows what else -- with bare hands. It was nonstop cross-contamination. I wasn't about to eat that. I just walked out. They should know better -- this is basic food safety and completely unacceptable. I won't ever come back, and I hope they get a full inspection before someone gets seriously sick. read more

We came in at lunch time on a weekday, and there were a few people waiting in line. The shop was clean and organized with a big selection of wine. On more than several occasions I have showcased their sandwiches on my personal facebook account. Because they are so incredibly good. These sandwiches are world class. One of the best in the west delis. That razor thin cut lettuce, tomato and onion, pickles and whatever else you want, with piles of meats on bakery bread and rolls. Their cheeses are magnificent. i would lean more towards 3.5hrs than 4. I was craving an Italian sandwich and Brass Bear came up on my recommended list. The delicatessen was a cute little shop with a drinks and a few market items. I was the first one in the shop so the wait time was zero, but a line of about five deep queued and i could see waiting maybe 5 to 10 mins for a sandwich. The gentleman that took my order set to work making my food, but he didn't give me or ask me for any choices. After he was making the sandwich, i saw a paper menu on the cold bar that listed bread options, veggies, meats etc. This was my first time here so many an Italian is made exactly the way he did it without any options? Overall the bread was...eh while the rest of the sandwich was decently good. Not sure what it was, but it just felt like it was missing something. Working in Alamo, there isn't many lunch places to pick from but this sandwich shop is one of my favorites. It is a bit pricey but everything is these days (I got a deli Turkey sandwich for $15). I love that they have a huge selection of chips here and they also have Kombucha which is one of my favorite drinks, they also have one of my favorite brands (Kevita). The one downside I will say is that during lunch rush, it gets really packed and it's a skinny long deli so if you can order online before hand I definitely would. I have been here a few times, it a decent deli. The service is a little slow but the sandwich stuff and salads are always fresh. Sandwich are $11.95, which is a little more that Domenico's $11, a great deli in Danville. They used to be much cheaper, so it's was worth the trip but now I'm not sure why I would go. I think that need to figure out away to differentiate them self. My go to is Mortadella on sourdough roll, everything, add pepperoncini with pesto aioli. I wish they had red wine vinegar because the italian dressing is too sweet, it has balsamic. An Italian sandwich vinaigrette should have red wine vinegar. The pesto aioli is good, but wish they had a garlic sauce (garlic, parsley, salt pepper, olive oil) like they do at Little Luca's, a South City institution. The sourdough roll is smaller than Domenico's, but both are soft with a nice easy to eat crust. The lettuce is shredded, which is a nice touch. Red Potatoe Salad: $3.85, 4 Stars. I've eaten at this Deli twice. The sandwiches are basic at best and there's always barely any meat given. Today we ordered a simple turkey and roast beef sandwich. The lady behind the counter couldn't understand the order and basically snapped at my wife! Her attitude and tone was so bad that the owner came out to finish the transaction but even he was just as dismissive as they spoke to each other in their native language. Also, there was a lack of hand washing and/or glove use transitioning between handling the food and money. Customer service, and cleanliness is not their strong suit. read more

Just sampled their Ariana sandwich (turkey on focaccia, avocado, lettuce, havarti, aioli) and it was fantastic! The bread was so fresh and delicious I really enjoyed every bite. Beware though, this bread option is sizable and the sandwich was so big I could only eat half before feeling very full. This was a part of a delivery order and everything arrived as promised.
