I politely asked if he could please try to keep it near the 10k. Written bid came in over 11k. (11,700$) Discussed that the bracing for the large metal stairs should probably be secured by something more than anchoring into stucco. To add proper supports the bid goes up again to over 12k. (12,800$) I would have liked a more professional experience where pricing didn't keep changing and for Christian to take the lead on making the stairs braced correctly and safely from jump. He kept saying this is simple we don't need to discuss the job so much. Also I had originally texted him to FaceTime me when he was onsite. He was on time but didn't respond to my texts. Had to wait 20 minutes for a response. He already left the job. Had to drive back to the job to be able to Facetime me. It is a large job that involves a lot of safety concerns. Was really looking for more professionalism to have the job bid correctly from the beginning and the scope of the job to be discussed throughly on time to get it created safely.

Go here…read more I recently bought an old steel bike frame with a very poor repair to one of the joints: there was barely any metal holding the joint together, and there was a hole melted in one of the tubes. I was concerned that it'd be hard to get the joint properly repaired, and/or prohibitively expensive. I stopped by Custom Metal Manufacturing around opening time. The workshop is a treasure trove: minibikes, custom signs, and sculptures everywhere. Ed and Gerard were super friendly and great storytellers. Ed looked at the frame, said "I can fix that", and fired up his welding gear right away. Ten minutes of good conversation later the work was done, and at a very reasonable price. The joint is now reinforced with ample steel, and the hole is closed up. Everything I hoped for and more.

Diablo Iron constructed and installed an Ornamental Iron Railing on our side deck for us. I found some examples of their work on the website Houzz and called them to inquire about a quote to build and install a patio railing for us. My husband and I were extremely impressed with the entire process. The way they handle providing a quote made it quite efficient. They were able to construct and install the railing in a very timely fashion. The work was done professionally and the finished product was perfect. We're VERY impressed with the end result! Diablo Iron just finished our new interior metal stair railing and we could not be happier. The original 80's oak wood railing was so out dated. After researching on line we found Diablo Iron and after talking to some of our other subcontractors working on our remodel we found out they all new of and highly recommended them. We finalized a design with Sam and got on their schedule. The work went exceptionally well and we were very impressed with the knowledge and craftmanship. There is so much more to a metal railing then a wood one. Glad we had them to make it all work out so great. Now that everything is finished we are so amazed at how great it looks. We get tons of compliments from our new neighbors. I think they will be ready to make this change from the wood to metal too. We hired Diablo Iron to put in our new automatic driveway gates and some matching iron fencing and pedestrian gates. The craftsmanship and service were excellent! The design of the gates turned out so nice. There are so many decisions to be made for automatic gates. We've had them for a…read morefew weeks now and still every time I pass through them, I applaud myself for having found FCR Fence & Deck and having had the wisdom to move forward with their company. From beginning to end the experience was great. I'd reached out to multiple companies, planning to take numerous bids, but amazingly found that few were unresponsive. FCR on the other hand was quick to respond to my inquiry on their website Contact page and were quick to set up the estimate appointment. The downside was I needed to wait two weeks. In the meantime I met the Project Manager from another company and was pleased with the experience, except that I never received a bid even though we texted several times. Rob Quinlan from FCR was similarly on time, but his amiability, professionalism, and communication, both in person and in subsequent texts, set him apart. He has excellent follow through, too, as our gates attest! He also really knows the ins and out of gates. When I said I wanted ours to be pushed open from the street side, Rob asked if we had a pool. It turns out that if one has a swimming pool, the gate legally has to swing out to the street. Rob explained that pulling a heavy gate is harder for little kids than pushing it, making it less likely they can access a backyard and drown! I was so impressed with Rob that I told him then and there that I wanted to move ahead with FCR. I received the quote and a contract later that day. It showed the options for the two different types of Redwood. Rob had explained that the photos one sees of beautiful fences are always made of the more expensive wood, from the heart of the tree. I had said that was the one I wanted, but it was still great to see options and prices laid out. I was able to sign the contract electronically. It was another two weeks before the actual installation, but the day of the work was fast and smooth. The crew and Rob arrived separately and on time. We all discussed every detail afresh, this time with Hector and Paco weighing in with their own expertise. There was some discussion among the men as to how and where to install the posts for the new double gate so that it would stay strong for the long term. I was consulted as well and made it clear that longevity and easy operation were paramount to me. I also mentioned that I was nervous about the possibility of there being a pipe to the house in that area, one that was private and therefore not marked by the utility companies. (Rob had done his company's legal duty of arranging the 8-1-1 Dig Ticket ahead of the work day). Rob took me seriously and walked out to the sidewalk, saw that there was indeed a drainage outlet there and told Hector to dig slowly and attentively. Rob left for the day and Hector and Paco got to work. Hector did find the water pipe about 12" down, right where the post was supposed to go. He had me come out and see the situation. He gave me two options: place the post over the pipe, in which case it would lack endurance for the long term, or go two feet down in the hole he had already dug closer to the house. I opted for the deep hole and the reliable fence. I was glad to have been consulted. I was grateful for Hector's having found the pipe without damaging it. Both gates and the small fence surrounding them were completed between 8am and 3pm. The areas were all cleaned up. Hector had me come out and assess the work. The gates have easy and sturdy hardware on them. They open and close with ease, swinging into the backyard as specified. They're attractive, substantial, and show every sign of enduring. I knew from the good communication that I could simply hand the check to Hector. Rob was going to come by to make sure I was happy but I said I was exceedingly pleased and insisted he didn't need to. He followed up with a text nevertheless to double check and I gave him a glowing, detailed review. Later that day I received an invoice showing I had paid. I couldn't be any happier than to have trusted this work to FCR Fence & Deck.

Insanity…read morethat I was going to let these guys swap out my aluminum posts for iron posts that wouldn't even match my gate. So I ask again, what are these guys experts at? Initial experience was bad. Sales guy came, was short with me, seems uninterested. Promised to give a quote. Waited 4 days. Didn't get a reply. I wrote a bad review and moved on. Owner contacted me asking me to remove the review and he can help me out with my gate job. I needed someone to help fix a botched gate install job so agreed. The job was to remove two existing posts and replace it with new steel posts. The price quoted for TWO posts were not cheap. He seems to think he's doing me favor for labor only but it was not cheap. It cost the same amount as the full job by the other company for the full install. I'm OK with it because at that point I wanted a job to be done by someone who knows how to do the work. Of course, I found out the reason they're expensive because they SUBCONTRACT to another company that specializes in gates. Are they the expert or is the subcontractor the expert? Nevertheless, I waited a week and a half for the scheduled date. The night before, he text me and ask if I have two steel posts that they need. They quoted me a very high amount to fix two posts but does not provide the materials for the fix. These guys are supposed to be experts in STEEL gates but do not have the materials for STEEL. So what are they experts in? Subcontracting? Reselling gate install service? What irritates me is that he sprung this on me at the last moment the day before. Our conversation was that the quoted price includes labor and materials to fix except for the extra materials that are needed that are ALUMINUM which I purchased. The fact that he asked me to provide STEEL materials at the last possible moment was maybe because (a) he misquoted me or (b) the subcontractors wanted more money to do the work. In any case, I cancelled the job. I cannot trust a company that bait and switch. If you misquote, then you own the difference, not spring it on your customer at the last moment.
