I'm a pretty handy DIY girl, but there are some things I just don't WANT to fix myself. Plumbing is one of those areas where I'd rather have someone else take care of it. Unfortunately, plumbing also an industry that seems to be filled with scam artists, at least from my experience. Maybe you've encountered the estimates that have no bearing on the enormous final bill (but what are you gonna do when your pipes are in pieces in front of you and they tell you it has tripled in price?) or work that is incomplete, shoddy, and even dangerous...only you don't know that until after they are long gone! Well, I don't have to worry about ANY of that with Diablo Rooter. Kevin (the owner) is honest, friendly, and practical. In my three years of using his service, I don't think I've ever called twice with the same kind of problem, so I've had a chance to test him on many things -- fixing broken pipes, repairing leaky faucets, clearing a toilet, installing a garbage disposal and faucet, clearing a sink line, and troubleshooting a faulty ice maker feed line. Today the line to my water heater sprung a leak and, while Kevin was around to fix that, I also had him clear a slow-running drain. He and Steve (who helps him out) are amazingly efficient and they were done in no time -- leaving me with a bill that was thankfully very reasonable. There's a danger in writing a Yelp review for a business you are loyal to -- they just might get so much business that they aren't available when you need them next time! That's the risk I'm willing to take with Kevin, because he is such a good guy and I think honest, competent people deserve all the business they want to take on. Wow. I was having one of the worst days of my life and almost completely broke, literally on the edge of a melt down, when Kevin came and fixed everything!!! I left for vacation a week ago on the same day my bathroom flooded with sewage water and I slipped and injured myself landing in that nasty stuff. I put towels over the mess and washed off the best I could before my 13 hour drive out of town. I returned to the same problem. I had previously used another company to a tone of nearly $230 just to clear my main drain. They saw sucker written on my head and pulled the rug out from under me. I had never needed a plumber before. So you live and you learn I guess is the lesson here. Hopefully you read this and skip the expensive part of your lesson. After being ripped off by the other company, who then told me that my plumbing was backwards and they could fix it for 10,000 bucks, LMAO, I then went the ultra cheapo route and rented a drain snake from Home Depot for $65 which did nothing but frustrate me, make my clothes and car stink and me feel even more like a failure. This is when I made one of the best calls of my life! I called Kevin at Diablo Rooter who came out and cleared my main drain very, very thoroughly and even cleaned my bathroom sink with a mini drain snake at no extra charge. He was over 3 times cheaper than his competition and was unbelievably nice about it. I overheard him on the phone talking to another customer who called. He explained that he could not get to her today but he could recommend people and if they were busy to call him back and he would try to make it work but not to call a random person out of the phone book. That there are too many phony rip off artists out there. I myself am the collateral damage of this very thing that is giving plumbers a bad name. So we bought this Rat Pack-style home in the 'burbs. When we turned on the washing machine after hooking it up, the faucets leaked all over. Found Kevin on Yelp, and he came over the day after Christmas. Nice, quick, easy, priced right. He kept telling us to call him if anything came up. Well, I was happily doing laundry that night when I realized that the clothes coming out of the washer were smoking hot. Being a suburban mom of two, my clothing generally isn't described as "smoking hot", but it clearly was. I called him, and he walked me through a couple things over the phone to diagnose the issue. Then he came back early the next morning and fixed it at no charge -- even though the issues weren't related to the original problem (the hoses were hooked up in reverse order and one was clogged). The first time he cleared our main sewer line for less than half of what I paid RotoRooter a few years ago. In addition he warrantied his work for six months. When we called him back to clear our blocked tub and he brought his son with him. They spent a fair amount of time diagnosing the problem and cleared the line. True to his word, I heard back from him within an hour and he was able to come out as soon as his schedule allowed. He was really good about not having me wait around and was prompt. As far as the work done, I was extremely impressed. We had a leaky sink and a toilet that would constantly run. I've tried to replace flappers in the past with less than impressive results, so I knew better than to try. Within an hour Kevin had replaced the sink and flapper while taking the time to explain what he was doing and why it was necessary. He also had a number of sinks on hand and let me make the choice based on price and his recommendation. His rate on the sink was more than fair, I think better than what I would get at Home Depot. Excellent, quick, and reasonably priced sewer clean-out service. Called at 6:30AM, after discovering a back-up in our line from the house to the city sewer (110-feet). Kevin answered the phone, and said he would be by after 9AM. A slight delay led to a 9:30 arrival, which he called to tell me about. He arrived in a well-equipped van, with what looked like the right tools. He was done in 20-minutes, or so. He suggested flushing all the toilets and running the water to make sure all was working fine. He pointed out where the blockage occurred (about 100-feet from house). He provided a receipt. Cost for the house call and service totaled $110. He worked alone, and he was very polite. 10:15AM and he is gone. I highly recommend him. And, thank you Yelp for being there. Long story short, a drunk driver crashed into the main water valve outside the house. The police came and swept the driver and her car off and the EBMUD shut the main water valve off that night because of the broken pipes and spouting water. And our home with 2 adults and 3 children had no running water. Of course it was a Friday night, so the very next morning I started calling every plumber that serviced the Walnut Creek area without much luck. Most of them were happy to come out first thing Monday morning, or were half asleep, or were just too busy at the moment to do the job that day. As the 5-star rating suggests...As good as it gets! My sewer line was clogged and spilling out into the yard (not pretty). I snaked it myself about a month ago. My wife pointed out that doing it twice would be more expensive than having someone do it who would guarantee the work. I called and Kevin and was pleased someone answered straight away. He was polite, helpful and gave me his price - no waffling. I inquired about getting a video down the sewer. He doesn't do that but gave me a number of someone who does.
