I did eventually receive a response suggesting I try eBay or a (apparently defunct) solar distributor in Arizona and ended up paying the $238 bill just so that the phone calls, texts, and emails would stop. It was not a satisfactory experience and I can not recommend Diablo Solar. read more

I would definitely recommend considering Diablo Solar for PV solar and for pool solar heating design and installations. For service, I'd still recommend Diablo Solar but your persistence and their improvement in communications are needed. I added PV solar and renewed the pool solar heating system for my Walnut Creek home in 2019, following roof replacement. I chose Diablo Solar because they have a long *local* track record and are recommended by local roofers, they explained their *not too big* PV sizing and equipment choice recommendations very clearly, and were very helpful and informative with all my technical questions and addressing the unique design and installation challenges every house has. I wanted to choose a quality *local* firm with high quality, warranteed products who had a *local* presence for any future service needs. They were also very knowledgeable and helpful with the purchase payment terms and coordination with a credit union 'solar' loan. The City permitting and PG&E/PUC interconnection process was all handled 100% and smoothly by Diablo Solar. The installation crews and team leaders were great all around and very communicative about any questions. I went with high efficiency Panasonic panels, with SolarEdge optimizers and inverter. Both the PV and pool solar heat systems installation were neat and fast. The PV system sizing was just about right for my home's needs at the time (during the *normal* hot summers) with only a modest *true up* electric payment due annually, and the pool solar heating added at least 1 month to either end of the swim season and ensured the pool was always warm enough, even on the cool summer days we get. Unfortunately, the inverter came with a 3G cellular modem that quit working when the 3G network was phased out in 2021 - that should have been anticipated by SolarEdge and Diablo - minor complaint! Also, the SolarEdge inverter failed in 2023 (less than 4 years old) but the replacement equipment was replaced at no cost under warranty with only a small installation labor charge. The PV system is back to full production after a quick 1/2 hour technician visit. I am very glad to have gotten in under NEM2.0, too! Even under NEM3.0, I would still go with PV solar - free energy raining down from the sun for at least the next 25 years is hard to pass up. Since the PV installation, I have undertaken additional energy efficiency steps by going nearly 100% LED with lighting, optimizing the pool filtration rates and solar heating schedule, and in 2023 re-insulating and airsealing the house as much as feasible and by updating the 20+ year old natural gas+electric HVAC to a heat pump system. 2023 has been much cooler than normal so far, so it's not possible to make a fair comparison of the change in electrical usage and balance with the solar production and elimination of gas heat yet. With the elimination of almost all of my natural gas charges (gas stove top, gas water heating, and gas grill are all that's left), I expect my total energy use will be nearly met by solar. I would agree that Diablo Solar's communications on the repair and service side could be improved. It took multiple calls into their voice mail system to get a call back. I now know there are now some alternative Solar PV maintenance and service providers, but to the extent possible I will continue to go to Diablo Solar first for service. I'm pretty DIY for the occasional PV solar panel cleaning, annual pool heat solar system draining, and pool heating settings - it's all easy stuff. read more

Fantastic service and installation from Diablo Solar Services. We installed an 8.6kWp Photovoltaic power system and a separate pool solar heating system 5 years ago (in 2015). After 5 years with Diablo Solar Services, we couldn't be happier. They have had an ownership change during this period, and even with all that disruption, the company has kept up their perfect record with us. Today, we had a small leak in one of the pool solar panels and Mike from service came to replace it. As with all of their people, he was friendly, efficient, and full of ideas for how to get the most from our system. We discussed adding a battery backup, and expanding the pool solar coverage to improve the heat on the pool. He helped me with the calculations for how much it would improve, and I'm thinking about whether to add more panels. Overall, I just cannot say enough about Diablo Solar Services. I recommend finding another service in the North Bay for service of your Solar Heat system. We bought our house with solar hot water pool heater panels, and this company installed them the year before we bought it. They said the warranty transferred to the new owners. We used them for Spring startup and Winter shutdown, and attempted to use them for repair. The first startup, they connected the panels to the wrong set of pipes. Defunct pipes they had left in place after their own installation that replaced another set of panels. They sent me an estimate to come out and repair their error, and it took a while to convince them otherwise. The second startup they came out and said there were leaks in the panels. They did not followup on repairing them. When I called to ask when they were coming to repair them, they informed me they were no longer honoring the warranty (still covered under the term). They sent me an invoice for replacing the leaking panels, saying they could not be repaired. I was subsequently able to have the panels repaired without replacement. They just sent a payment request for winterization and startup, even though I had prepaid for startup and winterization in February. It seems they have a shortage of staff and business such that they need to charge for everything, even things they've already been paid for, and have warranted. read more

This company did our solar installation in the last 6 months. They were always timely, efficient, very communicative throughout the process, and reasonably priced (and not the lowest). We had to call them back in order to fix a broken tile on the roof that was leaking. A roofing company said it likely will take weeks to get the solar company back but they were dead wrong. Diablo was here within 2 hours of calling them, readily admitted the problem was likely caused during the installation and proceeded to fix the problem. If you are thinking of getting solar, I can't imagine a better company than Diablo. Their commitment to after-the-sale support is stellar. I am very, very glad we went with them. read more

Took me three months for them to come and check out one of my pool Solar panels that were leaking for the second time and now I've been sitting for over a month waiting for them to come back and fix it. Every time I call leave a message get no response. What a joke for a company especially when I call them for installation their on it, but when it comes to fixing,forget it. . Follow up 5 years later-SO disappointed. Of our original 17 PV panels, 4 have been underperforming for several months. 2 panels have failed outright and 2 required new optimizers. It took several emails and phone calls just to get service scheduled and when this finally happened, the office was really bad on follow-through. We ended up having Diablo Solar replace 2 optimizers under warranty and had to purchase one replacement panel. The new panel seems fine, but the replacement optimizers are not making much of a difference and I cannot get any support on what to do next. I was going to add an additional rack, but I just cannot trust them to help us expand the system if they won't service the one we already have. I don't know if they just don't care or are too busy servicing others. I should add that the technicians, once they showed up, were always great. Friendly and professional. It was the scheduling and follow-through that fell way short. read more

I had been working with Diablo Solar to open and shut down a pool at a community I manage in the Walnut Creek area. They were a vendor that had been servicing the solar before we took over the management of the property. Unfortunately, when it came to shutting down the solar for the winter, we received harassing emails from them nearly daily about the problems we would be facing if we did not shut down the solar ASAP. All this despite the ongoing communication of the need for coordination for the access to the pump room with the pool company. As an end result of multiple communications, THEY now advised they refuse to work for this property. We will be taking all our business from this company. I wish they could have simply called and said let's work this out but instead they decided to remove themselves from the property, despite ongoing attempts to resolve the access issue. Poor customer service, not a good company at all. Very disappointing. read more

After a year of issues and a lien on our property of $2,500 that the owner Bryan Raymond stated he would pay, I would not recommend this company. We had an unorganized and quick install in 2019 where our roof was compromised many times. Diablo Solar called in their roofer who subsequently put a lien on our property. Need to have existing system removed and reinstalled for a roof replacement. Called 5 times spoke to the receptionist 3 times who was very nice. One those 3 occasions she told me she would hand the sales / estimator and had written note to contact me as she had taken the first 2 calls from me as well. Never received a call back and I have no doubt she delivered the not all 3 times. If this is how the handle a simple request for a quote i cant imagine how they handle new projects. We had Diablo solar install a solar heating system for our pool. Initially we were told what would be the best system for our pool and given a price. After we agreed they would install the system, we were advised we would need different equipment and electrical changes. After they did the initial installation there were more changes needed to make it work. I do not feel they were honest in their communications with us. The post installation service has been disappointing. Part of the package included getting the system ready for winter, closing it down etc...I tried to work out a date with them for the shut down. We chose a date and time and arranged out day accordingly. The morning of the appointment I received a call from the supervisor. He was able to get his technician out early. I verified the time and rescheduled my morning. An hour and a half later I called to see where the technician was and was told he was 15 minutes away. read more

Almost 10 years ago I had SolarCraft install pool solar panels on my roof. All that time I have been happy with the panels and how well they heat the pool. This winter I needed a new roof. I called SolarCraft twice and left a message but never received a call back on my request for solar panel removal nor did they inform me Diablo had taken over the business. It turned out Diablo Solar had purchased the pool solar division from SolarCraft a couple of years ago. My roofer found out about the purchase so I called Diablo and Lance came out to look at the situation. He was very friendly, polite and courteous and returned all my calls quickly. His estimate to put the solar panels back on the roof came within a few days. When the installers (Dillan and Ray) came, they did a great job. They were polite, friendly and courteous and did a great job of cleaning up after the job was done. They came on the day they were supposed to and at the time they were supposed to and they got the job done in a timely manner. When the panels were checked for leakage, one panel needed replacement. Imagine my surprise when I found out the panel was still under warranty and the replacement would be done at no charge to me! I would never have known so they are an honest company as well. Thank you Diablo Solar! I highly recommend your company to any and all who need solar! You are the best!!! read more

Diablo Solar did not install our system, so I can not write about that. The company, who installed our system and after a couple of years of maintaining it, transferred all operations of pool solar to Diablo and recommended them. We tried Diablo Solar and were very pleased with them. We are now in our third year with them. Never had a problem with contacting them, getting service scheduled, winter shut downs or spring start up. For service of the system, Techs have been scheduled to arrive within a day or two and usually the next day on leaks. The Techs have been polite and professional as with the office personnel. Due to roof leakage they had to provide emergency service to remove the panels so the roofing company could replace dry rotted joints. The service team was superb. We have two rooftop systems from this company, one electric and one for water heating. They've been running for years and we have had the occasion to use the company for service and support as well as the initial install. We had a good experience overall. They are a long-running local business with no nonsense. We initially explored a couple of those "no money down" companies like SunRun and found they were flashy startups with high sales pressure. No thank you. I'm glad we bit the bullet and just bought our system from a local installer. Diablo Solar gives full service and repair/support for a wide variety of things. Our pool system heating pads all failed and leaked 8 years later and Diablo replaced it at no cost under warranty (though we did have to pay $192 just to have them come out and diagnose). Overall much recommended. They may not bend over backward to be friendly on the phone or answer every one of your questions once they are on-site but in the end they are capable and have integrity and they can be trusted with your business. read more

These guys are worse than a joke. I arranged an appointment with Mike Scott, at my house. This is the second time he no showed. He claimed that the first time I had the date time wrong even tho I had the confirmation in writing. Foolish me!! I really hoped and believed Mike Scott would show up. I got the new appointment in writing from Diablo Solar and waited for him (again). NO SHOW. He claimed that since he was out to quote 2 plus years ago, that would be enough. By the way, he never actually quoted 2+ years ago because they were too busy for that season. I am very disappointed. He is a flake!!! What a waste of my time. First of all, solar (PV & pool) are not small projects, so I expected it to be annoying between permits, PG&E, etc. I was wrong. Diablo Solar took care of everything, start to finish, including a subpanel replacement which I'd originally tried to use another contractor for (mistake, should have used Diablo Solar from the start). With a project this size in 2022, be prepared to wait a bit for your install during some seasons because they're busy. But there's a REASON they're busy: they put their competitors to shame, and are an example of how to run a business. Even better, the quality of the work by their crews is unimpeachable. From the choice of panel vendor to the places they ran conduit, to the clean wiring in our subpanel replacement you can see their professionalism in everything. They fixed issues that pre-dated their work, and the one issue we had mid-install (we have some unique stuff, you won't have this issue) they came out after hours, no hassle, and were half done fixing it before I could even answer the door. If you don't know solar, learn from them. If you do, then call them to get it done right. Professional, efficient, painless. Diablo Solar is just better. read more

Marcus was our sales rep. We found him to be a true professional. Knowledgeable, patient with my 100 questions, prompt and great follow-up without the high pressure. Brad and his team of installers were amazing. They got the job done in about a day and Brad came back to make sure everything was functioning great- even found an issue that every pool person We've had never alerted us to. Diablo does not perform the repair service we needed so it wasn't for Brands financial gain to alert us, but rather for our pool to function optimally. Our in-ground cleaners are dated and only someone with Brad's "tribal" knowledge could have explained the function to my husband and I. We learned more about our pool in 20 mins with Brad than anyone else in 10 years of being pool owners. We got the part fixed and Brad is coming back to adjust our system accordingly this week. We've lived with a cold, mostly unswimmable pool for 10 years. I wish we called them years earlier! Our pool is finally not freezing and ready for fun all summer!
