Pretty disappointed... my family and I come every year and love the atmosphere here. This place is amazingly decorated and beautiful. It definitely feels like you've gone back in time to the old western days with the piano player and the "Shoot Out" show. But this time it was different... we waited an hour and a half for 3 hamburgers, 2 club sandwiches and a fried steak. Nobody was satisfied. Very disappointing... Walked in, it wasn't busy. There were 2 customers at the bar chatting with the bartender. Sat ourselves, no greeting. Grabbed some menus from a rack and looked at the selections. 5 minutes later, my wife and I looked and each other and we put the menus down and left. Fun place to eat while in Durango. I will admit it was a bit overwhelming at first as we arrived just in time for the gun fight. So it was a bit chaotic. We didn't know it was a seat yourself and there were no seats so we felt a bit uncomfortable just standing there waiting for someone to leave. Ashley the waitress saw us and worked to try and find us a seat as soon as a table opened. Note: not a good place for a party over 4. We were a party of 5. But we did eventually find a table to accommodate us. We almost walked out and left. I am so glad we didn't. The food, atmosphere, piano, decor was worth it. We enjoyed our time. And fun fact, we found out my husband and I graduated from the same high school in Texas as our waitress Ashley! (Many years before her). We didn't find that out until the end. We had dinner and loved the music. My pot pie was ok (kind of soupy - not enough body). The hamburger was good. LIMITED MENU since someone had plowed through the city gas line. We stopped for lunch at Diamond Belle when passing through Durango. The old-time saloon decor was unique and interesting. I had the chicken salad sandwich and slaw. The chicken salad was different, but good. It was made with grapes and a peach jam on delicious bread. The slaw dressing was very tangy...too strong for my taste. My DH had the club sandwich and slaw. The club was on a croissant, and pretty good. He only had one bite of the slaw, as the dressing was too much for him. And then there was the service. We were greeted when we walked in, told to sit anywhere, and then ignored. The bartender finally brought us water, apologized for the wait, took our drink orders, and then we sat some more. Our server eventually appeared (no apology for ignoring us) and took our order. And then we waited...and waited...as 3 tables who came in after us were served promptly. The manager came by and asked how we were doing, and we told her we didn't have our food yet. She went to check on it, and we waited some more. Our food was finally served by another server, and he commented that we looked hungry. He obviously mistook annoyance for hunger! We had another wait for the check and the manager stopped by again. When we told her what we thought of the service, she responded, "We're working on that." She then asked if there was anything she could do. Seriously? How about discounting our bill, or offering a dessert, or APOLOGIZING?!? My recommendation to others is to walk through to see the place, and then eat elsewhere. read more

We went for dinner on a Friday night. We sat in the saloon which was crowded but not too noisy. There was a cowboy singer on guitar in front of the piano and he had a great personality and singing voice. The drinks were perfect. We ordered burgers. Both exquisite! The atmosphere and the history in this place is unparalleled. It is a fun place to go and not your average ambiance. Felt like we went back in time. We love this place. Every time to visit Durango we eat here. I love there steak burger and their salad that comes with the pecans on it. We have thoruoghly enjoyed The Diamond Belle's food, atmosphere, and service many times, but today, I'm sorry to say, was not one of those times. My boyfriend, his mother, and I went to the Diamond Belle for brunch. Our server, Kailyn was wonderful! Even through her tears! The bartender, Ben, was awesome! He should be promoted to manager in my opinion. Kailyn and Ben are the only reason we may return to the Diamond Belle. The food was absolutely inedible. The Chicken Drummies were bloody raw! Not one of our ordered eggs were close to cooked correctly. The Country Fried Ribeyes were like shoe leather. A knife couldn't cut it, seriously! As we sent back our $13 appetizer, our 2 $15 shoe leather entrees arrived with eggs unedible. After all the good meals we have enjoyed at this establishment we were shocked. Our server was mortified and in tears after going to the kitchen to voice our complaints and finding the kitchen staff had all left. She then sought out the manager....I wish we had heard his thoughts on the matter, but as he stood less than 3 feet from our table, he never even acknowledged us. He returned a second time, and never looked our direction. This is unacceptable in light of the fact we were servered raw chicken. That fact alone should have warranted a visit from the manager!! He was right there! If I was him I would have been embarrassed too, but I darn sure would have at least done my job and tried to salvage my establishments reputation. I have owned and managed restaurants so I know the work can be challenging, but the lack of attention from management was inexcusable. Will I recommend this establishment to my friends, family, and tourists? No. Not after today. The manager and kitchen staff should be fired on the spot. Our day and Durango's reputation were salvaged by The Irish Embassy Pub and our server, Alex. The food was delicious! The service outstanding! We ate here 3-19-19, our first night in Durango, CO. The service was excellent. The food was beyond excellent! We had pot roast, grilled chicken, and a hamburger, with cobbler and creme brûlée for dessert. It's located in a beautiful old hotel built in 1880's; great atmosphere and live music. So, we came with a party of 8 and we understand it's not easy to seat this many however, they shuffled us off to the lobby with promises to seat us quickly. We also told them that we would be fine with two tables of four to make it easier to seat us. As we were waiting we noticed that the tables were being filled without holding any tables to which we could sit. We kept in touch with the hostess patiently waiting. It was not until we got stern with the manager that they held a table for us without filling it. With this service, we will not be back and perhaps this review will help others with a group of 8 avoid this same experience. PS. The waitress was ok, the food came 45 Minutes after ordering, some of the groups food was hot but the potatoes were still hard. My mashed potatoes were lukewarm. Tried to get in at 7pm one night. Stood at the door and no one would look at us. No tables and it was clear that they did not want to deal with someone that wasn't staying/paying. Went back the next afternoon. We both ordered burgers. Mine without a bun because I have Celiac and with French fries. It came with a bun and cole slaw. I removed the bun and they brought French fries later. The tomato was so over ripe it's next state of matter would be compost. Not even my wife would eat it and she'll eat anything. The meat was over worked (chewy) poorly cooked and tasteless. They had a very good whiskey flight for $11 with three large shots of Buffalo Trace, Knob Creek, and Bulleit. read more

The only thing worse than the service was the food! In mid-afternoon, it took 35 minutes for the food (a hamburger w/fries) to be served. Unfortunately, the burger and the fries were so heavily salted that I could eat neither of them. I loved the Diamond Belle Saloon!! I got the Diamond Burger and it was delicious. Although the fries were just okay. Next time I would sub them out for something else like the sweet potato fries or onion rings. Everything was priced pretty reasonable. The historic look was beautiful throughout the whole building. The art all around the dining area was gorgeous. The service was good and the people are all very friendly!! Didn't stay in the hotel, just walked in off the street to eat. I made the mistake of coming during the Cowboy Poetry weekend as a tourist on 10/1. The Cowboys were pretty cool. The problem is this place was packed! The wait was 45 minutes which really isn't that bad for a Saturday Evening. The tables are literally on top of each other. It was really difficult to move as the persons sitting behind my mom and myself kept elbowing our backs. The place is small! Totally a tourist visit. The servers are very lovely in Dance Hall Girl Costumes. Our server was very quick in bringing our drinks. The food took about 35-40 minutes to arrive. My dad said the Pulled Pork Sandwich (around $10) was one of the best he had. At our table the Hamburgers and Bison Burgers (about $12) were voted the best on the menu. My meal however, was pretty bad. I had the "Buffalo" Wings appetizer and Sweet Potato Fries. The Wings are about $10 and a dry rub that is not Buffalo at all. Not even the slightest bit spicy. The Sweet Potato Fries were not delivered and were cold by the time they were (about $5). My Friend got the French Dip Sandwich ($12). The Baguette Bread was so hard she could not chew it. She also discovered a small hair in the Sandwich that did not match her own. I would say that if you are looking for a total touristy location this place may match your expectations. If you are looking for good food at a reasonable price, it isn't. The Piano Player was great!! He even takes requests. read more

What a BRILLIANT place to visit for fair priced bar and food and FUN!! The staff was so friendly, so helpful and professional. Those young girls who dressed up in costumes while serving were so nice to pose for pictures with our elderly dad (and the elderly gent sitting beside us) The piano man was absolutely gifted as his fingers flew over the keys, he played all the popular songs for everyone to sing to and to make everyone comfortable to do so. I am always suspect of eating at a touristy place, but the food was far better than any other place we visited in Durango/SilvertonOuray. The pulled pork Nachos were amazing, the BLT was huge and filled with thick bacon, the pulled pork sliders had a great taste.the deserts were huge. The 4 of us drank 6 beers, a glass of wine, 3 meals, desert... all for under $100. Unheard of in this day! Remember to tip the piano player, he was quite the entertainer and I think people forget that he lives off tips. read more

Being a dessert rat, and from the Tombstone, Arizona area, I get enough of the touristy type places. However, in this town, it works! The food isn't consistent at all and ranges from okay to awful, but the atmosphere is awesome. The service is consistently EXCELLENT. Just wish the food was as well. read more

Went in , ordered soup , salad and entrees. Had to ask if we would get soup and salad first after waiting 30 minutes. She came back with soup and which we are. Then had asked again for the salad which she got 15 minutes afterwards. Asked for a beer and she forgot, food came out with old fries..never checked in with us. Said sorry about 6 times. Then at the end of our dinner she came by and said our food was waiting without a ticket..manager brought out new fries and never apologized or asked about our meal. After we asked for the check, the waitress then said thanks for coming in 3 times and filled my water glass that had been empty during our meal. Do not recommend this restaurant unless you like reminding your waitress about your food and drinks. Then waiting an hour and a half for your main dish. Also, a party of 11 came in and they kept seating parties of 2 to 4 without reserving the tables for the 11 group. read more

We have come to the Diamond Belle Saloon at the Strater Hotel a couple of times a year for many years. Something has changed. Where before the house was packed on a Friday night with both locals and tourists there were open tables after 6pm on a Beautiful Friday night. We started with the calamari which was not dusted with flour prior to breading so the breading didn't stick. The aoli was a cilantro based sauce which was used VERY SPARINGLY. The best thing on the plate was the carmelized red onions. Next we moved to a buffalo burger, a chicken pot pie and the house speciality flat iron steak. The Buffalo burger was ok but came with no dressing. When I asked for mayo I got a warm squeeze bottle of mayo. Not interested in warm mayo so I opted for mustard. Nothing to write home about. One of our party had the chicken pot pie which consisted of a chicken stew with a piece of commercial pie crust Once more nothing to right home about. The flat iron steak was the big disappointment. The old one had garlic smashed potatoes the current one came with cold French fries. The old one came on a sizzling pan with carmelized onions and asparagus. None of those this time. And the crowning point was the crooked butter knife the steak was served with - since they sliced the steak (I guess to check doneness) I guess they think you don't need a knife! Needless to say this will be our last meal at the Strater. We did ask - they have a new chef. read more

We ate brunch here recently. We were a party of 6, 4 adults and 2 kids. There are goods and not so goods.... so here it goes. The building itself is pretty incredible and very historic. That being said, the layout is very cramped. Meaning if you need wheelchair or pushchair access, it will be a challenge. This was observed at a quite time in the restaurant. Our waiter was nice enough but there was confusion placing our order somewhere along the way which resulted in 2 incorrect orders. My husband had a steak which was over cooked and very salty. As well as he asked for eggs over easy and they came sunny side up and as I said, 2 orders were delivered incorrectly. Most of the food was just ok. read more
