Stumbled upon this gem walking through downtown Durango. It has the old 1887 saloon vibes which drew us in. It had a live piano playing older ragtime songs. I loved the character of the wall paper and old Features of the woodwork. We stopped in for a cocktail each. Very reasonably priced cocktails. Friendly bartender. Awesome historic ambience and really good food! I was not expecting the food to be as good as it was considering this is obviously a huge tourist spot in Durango and they could probably get away with lower quality and still have the same amount of guests, so I was very pleasantly surprised. We didn't order anything that was super fancy, but what we got was done extremely well and so tasty! I'm a huge history buff and have worked at multiple Gold Rush boom towns, so it was fun to see the waitresses dressed in period saloon girl wear and to be in the authentic building. It reminded me a lot of the Red Onion Saloon in Skagway Alaska where I used to live. Our waitress was great and I have never had soda water that was literally dancing in the air above my glass as much as the soda water I got here! That's some powerful CO2 and I love it! Came here with family who are in town visiting, but honestly I would go back as a local just because the food is great and the ambience is great and the prices were reasonable. read more

This is such a cool place; you really get the feel you are in an old west saloon. We were really hoping to hear the ragtime piano player but, alas he was not performing the night we were in town. The older gentleman playing guitar and singing, however, was great. He was funny, friendly and offered helpful suggestions without ever missing a beat. The period attire is great, and our waitress was excellent. The drinks from the bar were delicious and everything was reasonably priced. I was expecting a little more from the food, the chicken fried steak special was not a hand breaded steak but more of a frozen patty, the chicken bowl, however, was very good. Even though I was a little disappointed with the CFS I'm still giving it five stars because it was such a fun experience and all the other strengths easily made up for it. read more

Stopped in the Diamond Belle for dinner. It was a bit of a challenge to find a table for three, but we were finally able to snag one before the live music kicked off. The musicians that evening, The Blue Moon Ramblers, were a really tight band. The service was great, once we found a spot, and the waitress was sweet. The food was okay, but not outstanding; they did not have any sides that were gluten free. I would recommend this if you're after the saloon experience, want to pop in for a drink, listen to music, and feel like you've gone back in time as you cross the threshold, but not expecting much from the food. 3 for food, 4.5 for atmosphere. read more

The Diamond Belle Saloon is located inside the Strater Hotel in downtown Durango and follows the same old-west style and general theme. Everything has a reasonably good authentic feeling, in particular with the intentionally dated interior and design. Narrow staircases, live piano playing old tunes (when the waitress's phone isn't playing music), and all of the related decore you can imagine. The food was also pretty good, certainly above average. Even the turkey club sandwich I had was very tasty. It was a very large serving, with buttered toast, fresh ingredients, etc. If anything, it was a bit greasy, making it probably the least healthy sandwich I've had in a while. The salad, fries, and everything else were pretty good. Although I'd say on-par with the price paid. The service was average but perfectly acceptable. And of course, the waitresses were also dressed to match the old-west theme. Overall, worth a visit when in the area, but they do get busy quite easily in this relatively small and often crowded restaurant. And since it's downtown, parking is limited to public parking unless you are staying at the hotel. read more

This place is a a fun ride back into the past. Yes it's a saloon but took the family in and they were so welcoming to our family and so sweet to my kids. The interior is literally like walking into a scene from a western and it's so beautiful and breathtaking. Our waitress name started with an L (maybe Liana or Lana)I believe but she was personable, patient and attentive. Drinks were always refilled and she was very knowledgeable about the food. The Caesar salad was delicious and fresh, the club sandwich was huge and flavorful, the burgers were perfectly cooked. They even had some musician playing that added to the ambiance. read more

Server told us he doesn't live in Durango and just comes to play for a few weeks every year. Service was very spotty. We often had to flag our waitress down when we needed something. Even though she was usually just chatting w the bartender. Food was hit and miss. The French dip was delicious. The burger was terrible. It was supposed to be served with a bacon onion jam, which was missing. I asked for a side of it and she brought some sort of dry paste. The entire burger was really over cooked and super dry. Went there tonight, was there an hour before our order was taken. Food when arrived (another half hour) was cold. New York strip was 1/4" thick, overdone, and just over a third of it was fat. Other guests' fillet was overdone, cold, and she couldn't finish eating it. Service was terrible, and food was not worth the price paid. Came I to town to visit and try out this place that shows to be a good stop for food. The service was below okay. Had to wait long periods for any refills but the kicker was that we ordered our food and waited over 35 minutes without getting g a check up on how we're doing. After a while then the waitress came over to let us know she was checking on why it was taking so long. The manager delivered the food (we think it was the manager) and asked us a question then my wife was responding and the manager just started talking over her response. Why ask anything you're going to be rude. Disappointed, the ambiance is great here. I was hopping that it would be a great experience but this was just not the case. read more

I almost wish they had the double saloon doors like in all the movies. That would have made walking into this late 1800's building amazing. After a vile time at El Rancho, it was nice to converse and share a few rounds with people who's IQ test came back positive...please don't go to El Rancho if you are over 21...or smart...or not one of the invaders turning Colorado into East California. This was by far my favorite drinking establishment in Durango. "Work Is The Curse Of The Drinking Class" is the slogan that greets you as you walk in. I love the period dress of all the employees. The bartender took a unique martini order from me and proceeded to concoct a masterpiece!! We closed the place down but the bartender let us stay a little later than closing time. Wow...sometimes I just have to say that when my expectations go WAY the other way. Just arrived in town and focused in on some fish & chips. After reading some other reviews, I narrowed it down to eating here. This is quaint little place with a throwback theme. I sat at the bar since diners were quickly filling tables and ordered the F&Cs. I was taken back a bit when I saw three golf ball size pieces of fish (smallest I've experienced). Taste-wise, they were average at best. The french fries were average and getting there early, meant they were fresh out of the fryer...so that was a plus. Now the coleslaw was absolutely horrible. The worst I've ever tasted. It tasted like it had salt in it. I've never done this before, but when asked by my server (bartender) about my food, I said "the coleslaw wasn't ant good, tasted like it had salt in it." Then I stopped myself, lowered my voice and quietly told him it was the worst I've ever had! Needless to say I tried just two small bites and left it. A few minutes later, I overheard a waitress tell him one of her customers complained that the coleslaw tasted like it had salt in it...he replied, "that's what his customers said!" He then marched to the kitchen. This is what drives my review to just a single star. Knowing there was an issue with the coleslaw, the servers should have discounted the meal, offered a replacement, or gave out some sort of compensation...but they didn't and didn't even offer one. For my small portion sizes, lack of flavor, and an obvious problem that affected not only me, but other customers, I feel completely justified in give just a single star rating. Excellent 19th century era establishment. The secret to getting one of their coveted tables and being able to enjoy the piano-based entertainment is to arrive early during their 4 to 6 happy hour. Decided to give this place a try since we have a player piano at home and thought it would be entertaining for the kiddos. Get there early as there aren't a lot of tables/room. We settled down and the wait staff was very friendly and accommodating to our large group of 7 (pulled 2 tables together to make it work). It has an old saloon feel with the staff dressed in period theme clothing. It was happy hour and had the house red (pretty good). They did bring all the food out at once and kinda wished that the soup/salads were brought out earlier but we made it work. :) I had a cup of the tomato soup which was smooth and creamy and great to have after a long day of walking. Y'all... I had the Pork Green Chili Verde as my main course and it was my FAVORITE dish during our entire Colorado trip!!! I would have gone the next day and ordered it again if I could. The pork literally dissolved in my mouth as I was chewing and bursting with flavor. 10.5/10! I cleaned that dish. Our favorite part of the night was the piano player who subbed for the usual guy that evening. He interacted with the crowd and told a lot of great jokes! We're from Texas so LOTS of Texas jokes. We also chatted with his g/f who was very sweet and loved talking about the Houston area. Our youngest enjoyed watching him play and hardly ate his dinner as he was watching him play on the piano. Wild west vibes in this historic venue! The bar and restaurant are part of a large hotel building. Since the downstairs was full, my party was seated upstairs. This proved to be an ideal arrangement as we had privacy and a grand view from the balcony. We had food and drinks, reasonably priced and satisfying. It's worthwhile to come here for the old-timey shtick, if that's your thing. The bar fare also hit the spot, if not blowing any minds in the process. Have some fun! read more

We visited this restaurant on a girl's road trip. We found a different location on Yelp to eat at, but it seemed a little fancier then we were dressed for, so we settled on this restaurant. The obvious draw here is the piano player and employees in their old west attire. We sat upstairs and had a great table. My kid loved the music and it was a fun atmosphere. I had a delicious cocktail and our server was friendly and quick in the beginning. The issue comes with the food. I asked about the vegetables when ordering the ribs. I was told green beans. I said ok, as long as it's not brocolli, I am allergic. I had the short ribs and my daughter had the adult pot pie. A runner brought our food, and honestly, I was distracted with a distressing phone call from home. The lighting upstairs is very dim. I started eating and noticed the veg was cauliflower and carrots, with traces of broccoli. I immediately stopped eating and took oral meds. Suffice to say, I did not finish my meal. I am just glad I didnt have to use my epi pen while traveling. By the time the waitress came back to drop our check, my daughter asked about dessert. She said she would have to go down stairs for the menu. My kid does not yet get not so subtle hints and said ok. We ended up not ordering dessert and paid our bill and left. The food was very delicious and very expensive (i.e. $15 for a hamburger) but I think that's the kind of thing you have to expect from what is essentially a theme restaurant. I loved the decor, and all of the staff and dressed in period costumes. During our meal a gunfight broke out between the sheriff and some "dangerous women" and that spilled into the streets outside, which was entertaining. I feel like I should make it clear that this gunfight was part of the show, and I do not take delight in actual gunfights involving real bullets. The best part, by far, was the piano player. They cycle through players every few weeks, so it's unlikely you'll experience the same one we did, but that man could play. I would absolutely recommend eating here if you've got the extra cash to pay for the ambiance. It was a great deal of fun and one of the highlights of our trip, and without a doubt the best way to experience the Strater Hotel without having to pay to spend the night. read more

We really enjoyed our dinner here. The food was very good, I had the pot roast with mashed potatoes and asparagus. My husband had fried chicken, his only small complaint was it wasn't enough. We finished up with the Death By Chocolate ice cream pie, it was delicious. One order was enough for the two of us. We loved the piano player! Don't get excited...the potatoes were those twisty fries with Velveeta type cheese and a tiny, weeny drizzle of sour cream. So disappointing. Wow! What an incredible salmon Benedict! The fried capers really made it! The hollandaise was perfect, and when it mixed with the yolk, I just had to lap it up with the rest of the bread. So freakin' good. My girl friend got the trout and eggs without breading and she said it was delicious. Very accommodating to food allergies is a win in my book. I love this little dive bar in Durango, partly attached to the historical Strater Hotel. The bar has kept that old western theme and it really feels like you are in a different era. This is a casual, sit-around-and-drink bar. Perfect spots to meet the locals and/or listen to live music. read more

We only had one night to spend in Durango while passing through on a road trip, and we were really hoping to find a place that had a "wild west" feel. We could not have chosen a better place to stop and have dinner. I was seriously just blown away. This saloon has it all: fun music, great atmosphere, and the food is really good. We came in on a Tuesday night, and were able to find a table without a wait. Lucky for us, we even had a great view of the piano player! Now he was the star of the show. I dont think he was even following sheet music, and he was bopping around playing fun upbeat era music and even started taking requests from the crowd. His skills just amazed us. The waitress was so sweet and made us feel right at home. She was attentive and fun and really just boosted our experience here. I absolutely loved how the waitresses were dressed in dresses from the era. We ordered the spinach and artichoke dip to start. So good. For entrees, we ordered the Southwest Cobb salad and the Colorodo Chicken sandwich. Both are a thumbs up. The dessert menu also looked tasty, but we decided on another cocktail instead. The Orange Whip is so tasty! There is so much more to do in this city than we allowed time for, and typically I'm a person that enjoys always trying new places, but the next time that we are in town... we will definitely be back here.
