This cycle shop is attractive and full of nice gear. However, I am giving them one star because of their service. If you want to over-pay for all services and get mechanics who don't get things right the first time and talk down to you, go for it. But I won't be back. AT DIAMOND CYCLE, THE CUSTOMER IS ALWAYS WRONG. Here's my short list: 1. They shamed me unpleasantly into agreeing to get a tune up, but only revealed the extremely high price after I'd committed ($79 versus the $30 I paid at the bike shop in the city I just moved away from). I should have walked out then, but they already had my bike and my details and I wasn't comfortable enough to do it when there were three of them staring me down. I recognize my own mistakes in this, but I am mainly frustrated with their not-so-nice sales technique. 2. They never called to say when the bike was finished, despite promising to do so. 3. They couldn't find the bike when I called to check up on it - had to call me back after searching for an hour. 4. They over-tightened my breaks to an unsafe level and let me leave the shop like that, causing my bike to catapult me through the air and land on the sidewalk the first instant I tapped on the breaks (about 20 feet from the shop). I got cuts and bruises all over (and my back is out now which seems related). Then when I went back into the shop, they refused to acknowledge that it was their fault or to fix the problem. (I loosened the breaks myself when I left again, but it's the principle of it that they should have been willing to do that) Instead the mechanic made me feel like an idiot and acted like it was my own fault I fell. He even explained how to use the breaks appropriately! What? That is the first time I have ever fallen on this bike, the first time I've fallen since I started bike commuting several years ago. I would just like to point out that when the bike was brand new the breaks were NOT THAT TIGHT. I slammed on my breaks in traffic many times and was NEVER catapulted through the air like that before. I'm sorry, but they can't try to convince me that one of their mechanics didn't over-tighten the breaks. Frankly, it is dangerous for the breaks to be that tight. At my old bike shop they would test the bike for you to make sure all the settings were good before you got it back. That is just courtesy, right? 5. The final straw was them trying to convince me my seat might be too high, when it is at exactly the perfect height for my legs. It was like a final slap in the face after everything else. Why would they assume that I don't know the right setting for my bike seat when I have been riding comfortably at that height for years? I've been a bike commuter for several years, ride over 2000 miles a year, and have taken some bike repair classes. Diamond Cycle could have slightly more respect for their customers' opinions about their own bikes. read more

I'm pressed for time here but feel I need to say, I live in North Jersey and when it was time for a new road bike, I visited just about every bike shop in the Northern part of Jersey looking for my perfect fitting road bike. My budget was around 2,000 dollars and when looking at bikes in that range you would think a bike shop would take the time to carefully fit you on a bike. None of them did. The last shop I visited and ended up buying my bike from was Diamond Cycle. Craig did not show me what he had to sell, instead he measured me, arms, legs, torso, etc. Afterwards he explained that I was a 56cm. Size which he did not have but could order and have it in 2 days. He had plenty of beautiful bikes in 52, 54, 58, 60cm. He said even though I measured a 56, he would still have to make some modifications to the length of the stem, seat, and bars at no extra charge. Long story short, I have logged over 3,000 miles on my Cannondale synapse carbon and feel it fits me as if it were custom made. I have gone back 3 or 4 times for minor adjustments and Craig literally has dropped everything to take care of me without having me wait. (Something I totally appreciate but don't expect him to do) I went back and bought my daughter a new bike and got the same great treatment. I think this shop is the best shop in the tri-state area. I have reccomended them to dozens of cyclists in my riding club. Craig- You are a gentleman and thank you for making my cycling experience a positive one. read more

So, I had this old durable bike, which I thought was the greatest thing since Swiss cheese. As is usual at the start of cycling season I needed to get it fixed up. I did some reviewing and found Diamond Cycle. I walked in and the shop looked amazing... my eyes went shopping along the wall and landed on this Cannondale. Vinnie introduces himself and doesn't push a sale on me at all. He asks what I was there for and we begin going over my bike. Vinnie shows me some things, but in his demeanor I saw a fellow cyclist that felt I needed something better. I asked him, "If it was you, would you fix this bike?" He said emphatically, "No!" He then asked did you wanna get something new and I said yes. he walks through the showplace and says, I think something like this would be good for you." It was the exact Cannondale I scanned when I walked in. What happened next is what I now consider the best customer service experience I ever was a part of. Vinnie had initially said that my frame was far too small and I had no idea what he meant. As so many people do, I based that bike on what I had scrapped as knowledge from riding BMXs as a kid. I ended up being there for about 4 hours, during which time this man put together three different bikes, adjusting them to my body, so I could learn what size frame I should ride. So funny reading that Craig (the owner) is a dick in that previous review. He really is and he must know it. Recommending to anyone with eyes and ears to NOT go there. For the beginner bicyclist there are a ton of shops to go to in the area that will have better pricing and customer service. For the more advanced rider, you may have to travel a bit but it will be worth it to be treated with respect and sincerity. I am not usually a reviewer, but i do read them and I am so mad right right now on the way i was treated there that I HAVE to spread the word to never go to that shop if you want any sort of deal or even to be treated like a real person. My experience with the shop and front desk and the OWNER caused me to lash out in a public way, and for that I am truly sorry as it is also not my style, but even that was handled with Craig pointing his finger in my face and threatening me. I have been in the customer service field for my whole adult life and I have never been treated that way or treated even the most irate customer/ client that way. Unheard of. Wow for a small bike shop they really think they are bigger than their britches and for that they deserve the worst marks in my book. good luck. read more

Craig at Diamond Cycle listened to my goals, needs and had the patience and time for my multiple visits / discussions and assembled a new E-Bike for me. This new bike represents a quantum change in new technology and riding experience from my old road bike of 40 years. Diamond had / has the instore bike inventory for me ride different options - frame size - peddle assist - to experience other features to focus my decision making. Craig is conversant with the nuance of local, state (NJ-NY-PA) and Federal regulations for E- Bike trail and off road opportunity which were made statutorily "in effect" and clarified as recent as July & September of 2019. The price was very fair and I have found my new go to - local bike shop". The other members of the team are also extremely nice, knowledgeable and responded to my plethora of questions - they encouraged me to hang out to observe ongoing bike repairs so I can assume greater personal responsibility, independence and ability to maintain my bike and make decisions going forward. Got my new bike delivered today !! Thrilled ! Vince at Diamond Cycle Montclair has been excellent from day one when this absolute novice who hasn't biked in more than a decade, decided to buy a bike amidst the COVID quarantine. Vince was patient, thorough and knowledgeable and demonstrated excellent customer service. He answered all of my questions and made a fantastic recommendation of a bike as well as all of the accessories I need to be safe. This is the best bike shop around. I drive 45 minutes each way to get there so that Chris And I can work on my Handcycle. I have big goals of competing in the Paralympics and the highest level of competitions. Because of my disability, as I get stronger Chris constantly has to modify the bike to meet my needs! He is so professional, knowledgeable, trustworthy, and willing to think outside of the box. His attention to details is amazing, and he really cares for each rider that comes into the store. If you want something explained he'll take the time and make sure you are satisfied. At this point, I'm proud to call him a friend and I FULLY trust him. I was able to "test-drive" a couple of their electric bikes. With their guidance, I selected a really cool power-on-demand ELECTRIC BIKE (to assist my aging knees on hilly terrain) along with the perfect THULE BIKE RACK. Trust!!!!! Diamond Cycle Center to ship your bikes anywhere!!!! I had to ship my son's handcycle bike and 5 spare wheels to another state for an event next week. Chris had to reassemble the bike and packed the handcycle bike and parts to made sure my son would get it in time for the event.The box dimensions were: 66 x 24 x 30, so you can imagine the task. Chris even referred me to a company that would ship this size box because it was too large to get shipped with a bike company. I think the one reveiw that was bad, most likely was from a competitior, too bad as I believe they are very safe and is really great with their customers. Customer service is a 5 Star. Chris is a bike repair wizard and has saved me some money on a few occasions by offering cost effective solutions instead of leading me to pay for unnecessary parts or services.
