I was too busy eating my perfectly cooked ribeye that I forgot take a picture. My husband ordered the Seabass, which I felt the serving size was very small, but it was cooked perfectly. I feel at the prices charged the service needs to improve a bit in particular the timing of returning to check on the table especially for cocktails so a star was deducted. Enjoyed the ambience,service and most of the food. But two things brought this down to 3 star. The expensive filet unfortunately was cooked medium not medium rare and the flavor and texture was lacking. Brought this to the attention of the servers and there was no adjustment to bill or offer of anything other than an apology which left me feeling disappointed. Was desiring the lobster quesadilla and the dgr for steak but they didn't have lobster, which on a prime night shouldn't happen. So had to do other things. Other than that, the service was top notch. The bread and butter is absolutely delicious. Could have eaten that as a meal. The lamb pops were also flavorful. The drinks were fantastic. Had the devils candy wine which was syrupy but nice and diamond martini and it was refreshing. The shrimp on top of the steak were well seasoned and cooked perfectly. We started with side salads. My mom enjoyed her house salad and I loved the Caesar. Their dressings are so good! The fluffy buttery bread is delicious. We split the Creole spicy pasta. It had great flavor but the pasta was over cooked and soggy. I liked the chicken, sun dried tomato and artichoke. Overall it was a great evening. definitely make reservations ahead of time. This place has limited street parking available on adjacent nearby streets. It is a bit pricey, but well worth it. They have a large dining area spanning two floors and a full bar on the second floor. It has a low key/up scale vibe. They have a menu that features salads and steaks. You can get some toppings on your steak like onions, mushrooms, shrimp...They also have some very tasty signature martinis and cocktails. I highly recommend the Key Lime Pie Martini. It tastes like a dessert. I ordered the NY Strip Steak. (medium well) with brussel spouts and I must say that I was delicious. I got onions on top of my steak. The steak was one of the best that I have ever tasted and the brussel sprouts were amazing. The steak was flavorful and cooked to perfection. I was very impressed. There is always a lot of talk about cheat meals, well this is a treat meal. You really need to treat yourself to this place. I get it, it is a bit on the higher end, but you should ball out once in a while. I really enjoyed my meal here and glad that I was able to make it here. Disappointing. The food was mediocre and overpriced for no reason. We ordered seafood pasta which was overcooked and stuck together in weird tasting sauce. It barely had any seafood, only some shrimps. "Red fish" looked and tasted like cheap tilapia and was way too salty. Spinach didn't taste good. It should be a shame to change $40 for a dish, which are so badly cooked. You overpay just to stare at pretty ceiling in this place. The Diamond Grill went above and beyond hospitality this past weekend. We had dinner there 1/19/24 which was absolutely outstanding. And, then... We mentioned to the bartender, Stephen, that we were looking for a place within walking distance of our hotel (Hotel Bentley) to go and have cocktails and watch one of the NFL playoff games on 1/20/24. They don't normally open until after 4 pm, but Stephen told us he gets to work around 3 pm for prep and invited us to come in to watch the game (even though not open). We took him up on his offer, immediately! This was so unexpected and greatly appreciated. We had a great time. Stephen & Megan took good care of us. Meghan the bartender was amazing, the food was amazing, the wine was amazing, the building was amazing. This place is a near perfect restaurant. I managed restaurants for years, and I love finding a "gem" like this. The Caesar dressing was rich and creamy with a hint of anchovy, perfect romaine and just the right amount of parmesan. The bone in ribeye was perfectly medium rare, with the DGR seafood topping making it even more special. The creme brulee had an enjoyable flair that was unexpected and welcome. As an added benefit, Mixologist/Engineering Drawing Meghan makes a mean Tito's dirty Martini up with polished expertise. I only hope I can come back soon! read more

The restaurant has a lovely atmosphere, especially seating on the mezzanine. We were looking for a place to unwind after our business meeting and this fit the bill. Our waiter, Johnathan, was very helpful and gave recommendations on choices. We had a bottle of 2012 chateaunauf du pape which was modestly priced at $65, low for such a bottle. My friend had the tuna appetizer and house salad. Both were clean and tasty. I had the fish special of fresh flounder, with grilled asparagus, Parmesan risotto with a citrus Buerre blanc. The fish was fresh and nicely cooked, lightly blackened. The sauce was not that balanced but the asparagus was thin, spring and fresh and was very good. The risotto was simple but yummy. My ended with creme brûlée, which she would share and almost licked the ramekin. I had the key lime pie which was bright and huge. I could finish it, definitely enough to share. read more

The Diamond Grill is amazing and one of those restaurants that you stumble upon in the most unassuming of places. The Diamond Grill is a gem (forgive the pun) of a restaurant located in an old jewelry store smack dab in the middle of downtown Alexandria. Its the sort of place that I would drive out of my way for dinner. The assortment of dishes runs a pretty wide gamut - from Italian braised osso buco veal to fresh gulf seafood, and everything seems to be prepared with an eye toward high quality products and great execution. The gulf seafood was fantastic. I had a great dish with local crawfish, shrimp and crab. It was a nice mix of flavors and fresh ingredients. My only criticism - the bar has not a single draft beer. It seems a real shame to not feature some of the artisanal beers from around the area. Even more of a shame not to have a few drafts available. Alas, they offer a full bar with a number of rotating drink specials. All-and-all our evening was great. Made even more delightful by the awesome ambiance of the restaurant setting. A really cool space with vaulted ceilings and impeccable architecture. Another treasure of historic design in the old south. read more

After spending a nice, leisurely ten hours driving from New Orleans because the Department of Transportation saw fit to close all the Interstates due to the Great Ice Storm of January 2014, I arrived in Alexandria needing something nice to eat. I checked out Yelp to see what was close to the hotel and another restaurant caught my fancy first. As I drove by, I noticed it was only open during the day. So I checked again and Diamond Grill popped up closest. And it had a 15% off digital coupon attached. And it helped. I walk in and YIKES! This place is fancy! I'm dressed in jeans and simple shirt, carrying a ratty paperback book and everyone else is dressed all fancy. So I look through the menu and try not to show sticker shock. A great selection of seafood and interesting things like pheasant and rabbit. I ended up choosing something simple: the strip steak with broccoli and (suggested) risotto along with a chef's salad. My server brought out fresh, warm bread with herbed butter with the salad. The salad was UNBELIEVABLE! I've had other similar salads with mixed greens, sliced strawberries and pecans but this one just exploded with flavor. The Hearts of Palm was a nice touch. The risotto was creamy and tasty, a very good choice. The steak - Oh My Goodness! I ordered medium rare and it came out perfect. Very tender and tasty. I completely forgot about my book and immersed myself in this tasty delight. Oh yeah, the ambiance. Diamond Grill is located in a great space downtown. With continued redevelopment, the downtown area will attract more great eateries such as this. I look forward to visiting again. read more

The historic interior sets the mood for an incredible wine list, vintage cocktails, and the most amazing steak I've had in years. We had our child with us and they were wonderfully accommodating. One of our favorite spots to eat in Alexandria. This time we started with a martini for my husband (he always gets good martinis there) and I tried the Apple Alexandria. It was so good I ordered a second one! We then started our meal with Wild Mushroom Toast and Fried Green Tomatoes. I LOVED the toast. It was my first time to have it. It was different and scrumptious! My husband enjoyed his tomatoes too. For dinner I had KUROBUTA PORK OSSO BUCCO with scalloped potatoes on the side. I must have been feeling adventurous because it was new for me too.Once again, very good. My husband had a steak with onions and crab meat and he ate every bite of it.
