My BF and I go here, and we just can't rave enough about the place. We used to go to Rex's,but Rex's subs out their dry cleaning to Diamond! So we were paying a surcharge to go through Rex as the middle man! We wised up when we found a Diamond tag in our dry cleaning from Rex's. Diamond is the best. When we used to live in Chicago we have this french dry cleaners who took care of us, but when we moved to SJ, I researched for good laundry around SJ and I found this cleaners. Overall, the store is ran by two ladies, and they are pretty nice too. Sometimes I met with Mary's granddaughter. But, I gotta to say their work is as good as the French laundry we had in Chitown. Heading up a new office in San Jose, I needed to find a good local dry cleaners. All the positive reviews for Diamond led me to get in touch with them. My major pet peeve with regard to dry cleaners over the years is that many of them staple an identifying tag (with customer name) to my shirts. The tag is stapled with a metal staple to a corner of one shirt tail. The idea, I suppose, is that because the shirt tails are tucked into one's pants and not visible, there should be no issue with it. There are three problems with this technique. First and foremost, it has happened to me that the head of the staple can open up over time and prick or cut me on the thigh. Secondly, it creates holes in the fabric that can cause damage over time. Thirdly, it is definitely not aesthetic. So before I will bring my shirts to a dry cleaner I am not familiar with, I inquire about how identifying tags are applied to clothing. I called Diamond to ask a couple of questions, including this one. The woman who answered the phone, who identified herself as Mary, did not want to give me a straight answer as to whether staples are used to fasten identifying tags to shirts. This was very frustrating. After several rounds of back-and-forth, she finally acknowledged that Diamond uses staples. But instead of simply answering the question, she tried to make me feel as if it was a stupid question on my part. "How else do you think it would be possible to tag a shirt?" she asked indignantly. "Some dry cleaners run a paper tag through a button hole, with the tag stapled only to itself, so that you can easily pull it out," I replied matter-of-factly. "Some of the 'Orientals' do that but we certainly do not," she said, even more indignant in her tone, as if there is something wrong with this clearly superior practice and as if 'Orientals' (Asians) are somehow less competent than others, for doing so. She then went on to tell me how Diamond has a state-of-the-art, high-tech plant on premises. If it's so state-of-the-art and high-tech, I thought, why can't they adopt a more modern way of getting the tags onto shirts? Running the tag through a button hole, with paper that can easily be torn off, is one good alternative. Another is a little bar code sticker that can easily be peeled off, leaving no residue. Mary concluded the conversation by telling me to bring in whatever I have to be drycleaned, making sure I know the names of all three ladies who work there. Yeah, right. Get pricked by staples, damage my shirt fabric and support bigotry, all at the same time. What a concept. Oh, by the way, the prices Mary quoted me for shirt drycleaning were more than twice as much as what I have been paying on the Peninsula. And she refused to tell me what the price would be to dryclean my windbreaker. I would have had to bring it in in person to get that information. Thanks but no thanks, Mary. Went to this place because of the great reviews and people definitely weren't exaggerating when they said this place has great service! I bought in two coats for cleaning. They charged me $9.50 for each which was pretty decent. The ladies there were super nice and friendly which I appreciated. The best part was when I came back to get my coats however. The cute old lady had sown buttons on one of my coats for me free of charge! She even tried her best to find matching buttons for my coat. I really appreciated that. I don't know very many places that would go to that kind of trouble especially since I didn't even request it. Will definitely be back next time I need a dry cleaning. read more

When I lived in SJ, I used Diamond exclusively for 10 years. Many local 'cleaners' are just storefronts and bring your clothes here anyway. Mary is a sweetheart. Years ago, I moved from one house to another and moved into an apartment in between. I'd dropped some clothes off before the move and forgot about them. The folks at Diamond were concerned that I hadn't come back and somehow tracked me down at the apartment in Santa Clara and brought me my clothes. I was flabbergasted. Although the services of the above was adequate, I must say I'm impressed with Diamond Laundry. I've had it dry cleaned in the past and there always seems to be something, a missed spot, creases or even something as small as lint left over but Diamond left me very impressed with their attention to detail and excellent customer service. On the phone, they were professional and friendly reassuring me they'll make every effort in order to process my drop off in a timely and accurate fashion. Like others have said, they only accept cash or check and I prefer to use my card for a majority of my purchases and don't often carry cash; however, if you don't see the sign they do remind you before you leave after dropping off your clothing. It is a "pay when you pick up" transaction with no "late pick up" fees, which I really appreciated being I was a day late to pick up my jacket. However, I had called ahead of time to make them aware of late pick up and they even thanked me for my call. I took my uniforms with the idea that they may be able to remove some stains content with the understanding that they may not be able to remove them. I picked up my uniforms not only was the lady rude and did I have to pay 30 dollars but my uniforms still had stains that the laundry mat would have had removed. Mind you that it only cost me 15 to 20 dollars to do laundry. I guess it's my fault for not understanding dry cleaning, maybe that's just what they do. read more

The older women offered me candy and service was with a smile. Most places today people are rude and service is slow but not here. Was looking for a new laundry service in downtown SJ where I live. Had see so many good reviews here and thought lets try them. Took 5 shirts in for laundry, asked the counter person about price, starch, turn around, etc. She informed me that laundry shirts would be $2.50. Thought OK, left the shirts along with my name & phone number on the claim check. That was Tuesday, went in on Saturday, first thing, to pick them up. Gave the gentleman a $20, thinking my total would be $12.50, he says $20.50. I had a puzzled look and asked what he meant as because it was only 5 shirts, he came back to tell me that 2 of the shirts are polyester and that they are $6.50 per shirt? I advised him that no one told me that when I dropped them off? My issue is that they had on the clam check 5 shirts, if the price was going to be different than what they advised me or have on the wall behind them then it would have been better customer service to call me and let me know that 2 shirts were going to cost me $13 instead of $5 that is a rather large difference? They are just SHIRTS! What is funny both shirts had been cleaned more than once by my old cleaners, before I moved, and was never an issue. First impressions of this place is not what I was expecting and I will have to give some serious thoughts abut using them again. Downtown SJ really needs to have more cleaners within walking distance. read more

Came here last week straight from the airport for a business trip. Was in desperate need to get a shirt pressed (which was shriveled in my suitcase due to an amateur packing job) on very short notice as my hotel check in was delayed and I had to get to a meeting. Despite my bizarre request, Mary was happy to help and perfectly pressed my shirt in a matter of minutes. On top of that and despite my insisting, Mary refused to accept my payment citing that "we've all been there before". Further inspiration that small acts of kindness go a long way. This place was a great find. I needed quick help with a comforter and duvet cover. I called at 7:15 Monday morning and was told if I came right over they would see what they could do for me. I dropped off at 7:30 at 1:00 was surprised with a call saying everything was "pressed," packaged up and done. She said they repaired a tear in the comforter also which I had known was there but didn't ask them to do. AND when I arrived to pick it up and pay, they did not charge for the repair. The turn around time is quick, and you can also request that they call you if your items are finished earlier than expected. The prices are competitive and the quality of their service is superior.
