Drove all the way here. Had called ahead to make sure they would still be open and was told the kitchen didn't close early. Got here at 848 and was told they close the kitchen at 845 nightly. Why not tell the customer this on the phone if this is the policy? Extremely unprofessional. Shame on Diamond Restaurant.

While it is fun to watch Charlotte grow and see the mew exciting restaurants that have come along with that growth, it's absolutely necessary to pay homage to the classic staples! Diamond Restaurant is one such staple having been around for over 80 years! I was brought here by a friend who grew up in Charlotte because he was shocked to hear I had never been and insisted that I go with him for lunch. He was excited to show me as it was a favorite of his since childhood. We came in early for lunch so the place wasn't very crowded yet and we immediately found ourselves a booth. They lady who greeted us at the front brought us menus, took our orders and was very kind and attentive, I believe she might have been the owner. The place is a charming relic with photos and memorabilia on the walls that are testament to its long standing in the community. As we sat and ate lunch more hungry diners started streaming in, and the place became more and more lively. I ordered the double burger and it was wonderful! Also very reasonably priced. We had a couple beers enjoyed great food including some fried pickles and okra. I will for sure be back and only wish I lived close enough to walk as this is the kind of place I would love to be a regular at. They've been around for a long time for a reason and it's because they have great food, at reasonable prices, and friendly service. They really stand by southern hospitality and provide a small town feel to this large and growing city!

Absolutely love this place! Hangover cure. The service is always so good & personable! Dining in makes me feel like I've left Charlotte for a bit and i love that. Food is always cooked to perfection & the prices can't be beat.

They were one of the few places open today after the snow yesterday! A small size staff was working but they were just the best and so attentive even with how busy they were! Food was amazing and the vibes were chill!

Great diner in the center of plaza midwood! There is a very subtle Mediterranean vibe (they offer gyros) with the menu but it's mostly "southern" food. I had the hush puppies to start served fresh, fried, and filling! They came with ketchup and butter and were were a guilty pleasure treat. I had the fish sandwich for dinner. It comes ala carte- which is good because I was already getting full from the hush puppies! There were two fried fish filets on top of a soft bun. Yummy tarter sauce on the side. My husband and I indulged- we don't eat fried food often so this was really filling! I took half home. Service was so friendly. We were in and out quickly. Small outdoor seating is available but it didn't look to have much shade so we opted for inside.

Nothing like an old school restaurant to visit in a city that's being saturated by breweries and pizza joints. I got the salmon BLT, it was good but wasn't the best I've ever had. The menu is pretty simple, burgers, dogs and other sandwiches. I'd definitely go back and try more items. I went at lunch time around 1:30 and it was just a few more people inside. The place doesn't have a whole lot of seats so thankfully there was no lunch rush I ran into. They do have some patio seating that will be awesome when weather is warm. I chose to sit at the bar and was served immediately. Young lady who was my waitress was awesome. Very sweet and attentive without being overbearing.

Tried this place for the first time, and it somehow fits the plaza midwood vibe perfectly. Walk-in in, you are transported back in time, but in the best way possible. The service was friendly and prompt, and they even have high chairs for kids! We started with the hush puppies, which arrived fresh from the fryer with that slightly sweet, fried goodness. Add a little butter on top and they were great! Then the main course arrived, the 2/3 lb burger. Well prepared and full of flavor, my only regret was I didn't savor it more when consuming. Great place to enjoy, especially later in the evening after having a few drinks, definitely a must try!

A friend took me here, and I was from out of town, so I just trusted the recommendation. It's located in an up and coming neighborhood, and it has a cool vibe to it. Since I was in North Carolina, I ordered a more southern option. The collard greens had no flavor. It tasted like grass. The fried flounder was very hard and I could tell that it had been previously frozen. The hush puppies were too doughy. The service was also very disengaged. However, the prices were low, and the atmosphere was charming. So, two stars instead of one.

We started with the hush puppies and raw oysters. The mignonette was really interesting, chunky with apples (I think?). It wasn't really my thing personally, but definitely unique. The hush puppies came out HOT and crispy with a honey sauce. You can also get them dusted with cinnamon and sugar, which I thought was a fun option. For lunch, I went with the pecan crusted catfish with oven baked mac and cheese and collard greens. The catfish was SO crispy but still delicate inside, and that pecan topping was delicious. The mac and cheese was creamy and cheesy with a bubbly, crunchy top. The collard greens were perfectly seasoned. Sometimes collards can be way too vinegar heavy, but these had a really nice balance. Everything came out HOT, which I always appreciate. Really enjoyed the meal and the atmosphere here!

There were several "reserved" tables that remained empty until after we had finished eating, so I think the restaurant could benefit from a better reservation system with more accurate buffer times to accommodate walk-in guests. The fried chicken and waffles were perfectly seasoned, and the waffle had a unique texture and flavor that reminded me of a combination of a traditional waffle and a soft pretzel. The cheesy potato cake was absolutely delicious. The fruit bowl was also good, but I wish they had been a little more generous with the blueberry pudding. The shrimp and grits came with large tomatoes, which may not be for everyone, and my friend felt the dish was lacking grits overall. She didn't feel like she got her money's worth. Would I go back? We came for brunch and they almost had to roll us out of there. They passed around oysters, shrimp cocktail and grilled pineapple with honey. In the middle they had lobster deviled eggs, assorted tea sandwiches and a small section with desserts. Everything was delicious and made with fresh ingredients. They barely brought around food like the French toast bites. They kept bringing around oysters and literally no table wanted them that I saw. It wasn't that busy either, tons of empty tables. Instead they held off the arguably best dish of the house: French toast bites. We FINALLY got them at the end of our meal before we left but had to stalk the waiter for them. For $78 there should be way more rotations of the better dishes. Our waiter was great and atmosphere is gorgeous. Playing, food quality and everything was average. The highlight was the poached eggs, eggs Benedict, bacon, potatoes, skewers and everything else was okay. Not better than like Golden Corral or a standard buffet. My opinion is skip the brunch for that price, unless you really like oysters LOL. Also if I had little kids, would never waste money on brunch here.
