Tres Leches cake to die for, something like $25+ tax, custom-made with one day turnaround, topped and filled with fruits. It's gorgeous and tastes like heaven. As a Mexican who grew up eating authentic food regularly, trust me when I say Diana's is the place to go. Ordering tamales at restaurants?? Why when you can get a dozen, reasonably priced, and better than you could imagine at the bakery. Many people are saying the sweet bread (pastries) are dry. You have to remember what you are eating is authentic mexican sweet bread, not a pastry from Starbucks! Remember this and give them a try. Pan de huevo (looks like turtle shells) is my favorite. I get really excited to come to this bakery every time I'm on Cherokee because A) it's cheap B) I don't speak Spanish so everything I get is a surprise and...C) I have not gotten anything I disliked yet. When we first came here, we were unsure what to do and felt kind of awkward, but luckily someone else came in and we quickly realized you just grab the tongs and fill a tray. At first I was leery that things would be stale. They were not and everything was great! My favorites there are the flan, the marble butter cake, these long cream cheese-filled-powered-sugar-covered things that the girl who works there recommended, and the churros which usually have a fruit filling. ay dios mia. Crack, I think they cook crack in this, or unicorn's milk. I am moving to Seattle and have lived in the STL for a year and hadn't tried this yet. On the one hand I am so glad i finally did because its soo yummy! Pick any random thing and it'll be good ,even if its not what you thought it was you will still eat it because its better than passable. Which brings me to the other hand, where even though I loved it I'm glad I'm moving because I'd eat this every couple days(because every day isn't really acceptable) as it is I'll go into a diabetic coma from the few days left before our move. So the atmosphere could use a little work but you can't have it all, plus if they were too rizty they'ed prolly get robbed and I don't think they could afford that with all the insanely low prices I dont really know how they stay in business other than sheer customer volume. Bring a $10 or $20 bill and you'll get a small mountain of pastries. I payed $13 for 2 people to sample various items and ($3 of that was flan) couldn't possibly eat in one sitting on an empty stomach and I love to eat. The labeling system isn't very great but as I said before its good and cheap enough you should just put stuff that looks tasty on your plate and if for some reason you don't like it swap with a friend you bring or chalk it up to a supportive donation to their culinary yum-osity* I got : a cream horn,a square cannoli type pastry, 2 churros, a guava pie, an orange iced bread pastry, flan, a rasberry coconut roll, to coconut covered fluffy buns with filling, two madeline type cookies joined with a frosting and maybe something else I'm forgetting my friend wanted the pumpkin empanada to be spicier but ate it and said the eclair type doughnut she wished was fluffyier/softer but ate it anyway. Have heard nothing but good things about this place so decided to finally check it out. Well that and it shouldn't be this hard to find a Churro in St. Louis. Walked in on a Saturday afternoon. The smell hits you right away, it was like every Mexican bakery I used to frequent in Los Angeles. Pretty much wall to wall baked goodness. The empanadas are amazing, some of the best custard filled ones I've ever had. Churros were great even though I somehow managed to get the filed ones. Just checked this place out whole waiting for a pizza across the street at Master Pieza, and all I can saw is WOW! Lots of good treats! I originally went in for the bread pudding, but the had to try the pound cake, the jelly rolls and a few new things. It's a little different because you place your treats on a tray and they box them for you. Staff is very friendly and helpful. read more

Diana's is my favorite bakery! The ONLY place for me! My kids and I really enjoy the churros and budin (bread pudding). My hubby loves the strawberry empanadas. In the past I've used their tres leches cakes for my kid's birthday parties and it was a complete hit! Everybody loved it and were asking me where I got such an amazing cake? I have ordered cakes for over 25 years & this is the first time I have experienced receiving an order on a cake incorrectly. I understand there are mistakes & I was even willing to go back & buy a display cake to get what I ordered. When I called they kept hanging up the phone because they could not hear/understand me. So I called on another phone. They basically said oh well & did not even apologize the order being incorrect. This was a very special occasion/milestone. I specifically ordered a chocolate pastel tres leches. I received a vanilla/white tres leches. I was not impressed by the design but I was willing to bypass that since the cake was chocolate. Background on the order: After I placed the order. I confirmed that the cake was chocolate. When I called to see if the cake was ready, I confirmed that the cake was chocolate. When I picked up the cake because it did not look like what I expected (no fruit on it, basic Sam's club design etc). They had no idea if I had a cake & I gave my name & said chocolate. They said ok. I'm a very understanding person & was going to even buy another cake the same day (I don't want freebies & understand if people make mistakes) so that we could enjoy what we ordered but they just brushed us off. Basically they said they could not find the original ticket etc etc. I trusted this bakery based off the reviews only. I'm all for second chances but I was truly disappointed on how they did not even acknowledge the situation. They charged me for the cake before I even picked it up. For a $27, 8 inch cake I won't fret, but I'm saddened that it ruined a potentially awesome moment for me & my family to enjoy a chocolate pastel tres leches. I would have loved to give them a great review to say how they corrected the issue, but I called at least 4 times & it appeared as if they were avoiding me (saying they could not understand/hear me, I did not find this out until my Spouse called since they kept hanging up the phone) I even had my spouse call again on his phone whose native language is espanol & they didn't hang up on him. They still did not apologize or acknowledge the fact that we did not receive what we ordered. We were very polite & patient on all of the calls. I just cried because this ruined my surprise for someone who has not had an authentic chocolate tres leches in over 7 yrs. If anyone knows of a great bakery please share. I want to buy a pastel tres leches in St. Louis or within 30 miles without having to travel to Mexico where the original cake was ate at previously. Gracias. read more

I've only been to Diana's once, so I'll admit my review won't be completely thorough. However, I knew when I entered this little bakery in the heart of the Cherokee district I was going to be in for something new and yummy. The two side walls are covered from head to toe with glass cabinets revealing all the goodies the bakery has to offer. The walls were decked with hispanic murals and knick knacks, while traditional music filled the room. This isn't your ordinary place for just traditional donuts (circular with icing on top) as most of the pastries were more complex. Think more empanada-like. I tried a long, flat pastry with a modest amount of peach filling, topped with a sugary coating. Very good. My friends and I also bought some tamales that made for a great, light and hearty breakfast with some heat. Having only visited Diana's Bakery once, I will now not think twice about where else to get a tasty snack for breakfast. read more

My Mexican-American, El Paso raised husband gives this place a big thumbs up, which almost never happens with Mexican bakeries outside his hometown. I am not the best judge of authenticity, but I do know that all of the pastries in my bag were extremely fresh and delicious. We are going back tomorrow to try the tres leches cake. Get yourself over here next time you're fiending for some carbs. Get the sugar covered orb with jelly between its hemispheres. OMG. Also, there was a plain, non sweet bread roll that was Tip-top.
