Lived in Roslyn for most of my life and Diane's has always been a favorite lunch spot for us. The food is nothing outrageous or fancy, but that's exactly what I love about it. Comfort salads and wraps and sandwiches. The tuna is the best tuna I've ever had in my entire 23 years. There is something secret in that tuna, and I hope she shares her secret one day. After the savory lunch, we always always always stop for dessert in the bakery. My favorites are the cheesecake brownie, the raspberry cheesecake crumb cake, and the chocolate cookie clusters (these are always winners). And on top of all of this, I often see Diane behind the counter working, and it's nice to see someone who truly cares about their business. Great bakery for many things, customer service... not so good. They said they close at 4 PM on Sunday. I got there a few minutes before 4 PM, yes I know it's late, but it was not 4 PM and the door was locked. I looked threw the window and they still had product. I saw a few people, one man was close by. I tapped on the glass and the employee shook his head no, I said it's not 4 PM yet, and they drew the window blinds down in my face. read more

Yes I rarely give 5 stars but everything I've had has been soo good!!! So happy to have found this hidden dessert spot in long island. It's not gimmicky it's just good old fashioned style pies, cakes and cookies done amazingly good. Everything is super buttery and crisp maybe that's why I like it soo much. Ah, Diane's Desserts. One of my favorite bakeries of Long Island. Roslyn has the cutest little village with various types of shops/restaurants. This little gem truly brightens up the town. When I first visited this bakery, I fell in love. It's.... rustic, quaint, classy, timeless, etc. They have those older, traditional looking shelves made out of wood and glass. I have always dreamed of owning my own shop, and if so I would want to model it after this place. They have an assortment of pastries and let me tell you... They not only LOOK good but TASTE GOOD. I heard they were very well known for their pies. So of course I had to get the apple crumble (my favorite). I also bought a blueberry pie for a family get together, and they LOVED it! Nothing but positive reviews. Diane's also has a small section to sit down and eat your pastries. So after a long day of walking or shopping around the village this is the perfect place to stop by and have a sweet treat. I highly recommend visiting this adorable place!! read more

This place was not what I expected, even after reading a few yelp reviews. It came across as a bakery and a breakfast place, but let's be real - it's just a bakery with a few breakfast items that you can order at the counter, take to a table, and eat pretty quickly. A sit-down breakfast place it ain't. I brought my wife and baby thinking we'd sit down for a casual cafe breakfast, but we were surprised that there were only 3 breakfast items to order (french toast, frittata, biscuit sandwich), that you serve yourself with coffee (not easy when trying to bring baby stuff up the stairs to the sitdown area), the food comes on paper plates with plastic utensils, and there is no fresh juice (ordered OJ and got a plastic bottle of tropicana). Also, there are no high chairs for babies. I thought the challah french toast was fine - my wife though it was too buttery and didn't really eat it. At least it was cheap - $12 for 2 french toast orders, 2 coffees, and 1 OJ. The people in line all seemed to be ordering the banana cream pie so, i suppose if you are going there to pick up some pastries, that's the one to get it. I'm sure the bakery is delicious...just don't come here expecting a sit down breakfast of any kind. read more

Oh Diane's, I can't believe it took us so long to finally meet. It's probably because you have been tucked out of sight under Northern Blvd all this time. Now that I know how to find you; I will be sure to come back for future visits. On this Saturday afternoon, it seemed as if all those in town have gathered at Diane's for brunch or desserts. We felt the liveliness and warm as soon as we walked through the door. Immediately after walking through the front door, I found myself in dessert paradise. All the dessert items looked impeccable, just waiting patiently to be consumed by dessert-loving patrons like me. After unwillingly coming to the realistic conclusion that we shouldn't consume too many sweet treats at one sitting, my friend and I settled on ordering a slice of plum almond pie and a raspberry cheese bar. As a huge fan of pies, I am always looking for the next great pie. The slice of plum almond pie certainly met my criteria of a great pie. The plum slices were arranged beautifully on top and they remained plump instead of turning mushy. The almond taste undoubtedly elevated the taste of the pie. It didn't suffer from being too sweet as a bit of the tart taste from the plum still came through. The raspberry cheese bar was equally delicious. The raspberry puree complimented the cheese well both in taste and in texture. Although it was getting crowded inside, we were still able to secure a table on the second floor by the window. This is the perfect place for a quick lunch or coffee break. They have beautiful delicious salads soups and paninis behind a counter for you to choose from. If you eat there you can bring your food upstairs to an eating area or sit outside at picnic tables. All of the baked goods look divine. I'm a croissant freak; Diane's are light, flaky and big! Delicious baked goods, the brownies and the cheesecake bars are AMAZING. They had samples at the counter for the brownie, and it was so (moist) and rich. Probably the best brownie I've had, and the marble cheesecake bar my friend got was so decadent and rich. It doesn't hurt this place is beautiful, with two elegant looking floors and outdoor seating as well. There's a cafe too, with lunch and brunch options. They sell pricy local honey that looks fantastic and that I'm definitely saving up for. The muffins, pies, and specials all look fantastic! I ordered the pecan cookie and oatmeal cookie to go, the pecan cookie was very good. It's definitely on my visit-again list for a great pastry. read more

The only thing that hold me back is their unfriendly service. Bake goods are delicious. Lunch selection is nice and yummy. However, people at the counter are not helpful at all. If you ask question, they will give you eye rolls as if you are bothering them. You can't get a crack of smile out of the workers no matter what you do or say. If their service is even slightly better, I will go there all the time but I only do the take outs now. Still I'm reluctant to give a dime to those who works there though. Oh my goodness, this place was amazing! We were in from out of town; but a friend who knew the area suggested this was the best place to pick up something for my son's birthday. She was SO VERY RIGHT! We bought a bunch of stuff to feed his hungry classmates and *everything* was fantastic! If I had to choose one thing above all the others, it would be the banana pie -- I will dream about it until I can get back to Roslyn again -- but the chocolate pie, the raspberry bars, and the cookie trays were all to die for. The employees and the owner were friendly and helpful. It would have been easy for them to be rushed or short as it was a holiday weekend; but they were wonderful, especially the owner. Yum!!! Diane's bakery is my go to place for amazing homemade pies!! They're top notch when it comes to baked goods. My favorite is their pumpkin pie & the chocolate mousse pie.. it's to die for!! On Thanksgiving it's tradition in my family to have Diane's pies for dessert.. it's always a perfect ending to our Thanksgiving Day. If you haven't already please go and try it for yourself. The bakery is in the front and your mouth will start watering once you walk in. Desserts speak for themselves, excellent. But note, the coffee here is very good. Get it. In the back of the cafe are the savory options. All is weighed so whatever u put on your plate is what you pay for by weight. I highly recommend the salmon. Perfection. I also always order the beet salad with ricotta salada. Perfection again. You can enjoy fresh cold teas or even a glass a wine. There is quaint seating upstairs. The bathroom is upstairs as well. Two parts to this review. The bakery is excellent. High end pastries and breads. Fresh coffee available. Love the brownies and ind. cheesecakes. The cafe part, has lots of healthy choices. Stopped by Diane's Bakery on my way to an appointment nearby to grab a coffee ... and WOW! Was not expecting so many delicious treats as soon as I walked in so I had to also grab two! I bought the small angel food cake and the strawberry cheesecake tart. Both of them were so so delicious!! The angel food cake is so light, soft, & tasted like heaven! The strawberry cheesecake tart was my favorite more because it was a cheesecake tart and not the usual custard one you find at most bakery's. It was the perfect amount of sweetness and the fruit was super tasty as well. I also grabbed a hazelnut coffee that also was delicious. The staff member's were very nice and quick. They also have a seating area upstairs to enjoy your food. So happy I happened to find this spot today and I will definitely be traveling from out East again to grab so many more goodies! read more

My mission? To locate the best dessert on the north shore for a pseudo-date with a friend while I was in town visiting. My perimeters? It needed to be: unthinkably delicious, within a 20 minute driving radius of Port Washington, and open at 9:30 pm (which might as well be 2am on LI). As if I could resist such a challenge. Twenty minutes of grad school researching skills on the Internet turned up a few options, which I had narrowed down to three, and then two, and then finally, Diane's famous triple berry tart. I take my challenges very seriously. We enjoyed the rave-reviewed tart at the Trattoria across the street, since the bakery is not open at that hour. The tart was everything we had hoped, and possibly a little more. It was warm, thick, and bursting with berry flavor. The crust was tender and delectable; clearly, Diane has this thing down to a science. Best dessert option on LI at 9:30pm on a Friday night? Mission accomplished. read more

I think Grumpy Cats work here....... Here is the food experience review: Tarts and cheese cakes are awesome. Probably the best on Long Island (My opinion). They are not sweet like some of the others and always fresh. The selection is not huge and it doesn't need to be. What about pies you say? Love them and they are also wonderfully delicious. Now the Spacial Experience: Seems odd for a cafe like this to have self serving coffee with glass carafes at a side table that is more fitting to reside at a road side gas station than a boutique like cafe. A stair separates the space with dessert counter on the right by the entrance and offers of sandwiches, salads, etc on the left. Both areas have a cash register. Makes ordering at both areas hard especially when there are a lot of people. Seating is limited inside but there is a small outdoor patio next to a parking lot. Now for the observation experience: The people working behind the counters are emotionless and doesn't look like they want to be there. Hence "Grumpy cats". I saw a woman ordered an ice green tea and the staff slightly...just slightly rolled her eyes and took a deep breath before filling up the cup. Maybe she had something in her eyes? I don't know. Second thing I witnessed was the guy behind the counter heating up Mac and cheese for a customer in a microwave. To test if it was hot when he took it out, he put his finger into the Mac and cheese. He stuck his finger in there!!! Finger in the cheese! I kid you not. If you decide to order the Mac and cheese after this read please tell them no fingering the food. It's not nice....especially in public. Final Statement: To get the goods you must endure pain and suffering. Is it worth it? Some say no way or they don't tolerate attitudes or actions like this but I say why not? You can't go through life with the Disney effect on a daily basis. So if they want to be grumpy by all means as long as it makes them crank out those yummy pastries. I know the Raspberry Cheesecake makes me very happy but no Mac and cheese for me. UPDATE ~ JUNE 30, 2012 I'm docking Diane's a star-down from 4 to 3-because they made me angry today. And you wouldn't like me when I'm angry. They neglected to give my my Linzer tart. On a previous occasion, related below, they neglected to give me the brownies I ordered. This is super annoying. Especially today, when, I started to give my order (Me: I'll have three lemon bars...) and the girl behind the counter, in an aggravated tone said "AND?" like I wasn't ordering fast enough. I should have slowed down; she couldn't handle more than one order at a time. This has now happened to me twice at Diane's. I'll be super careful the next time I go. Check your orders, Yelp People! Diane's may have delicious desserts, but they have incompetent (and somewhat snotty) cashiers. Update OUT. ************************************************************************************** I'll admit it: I was skeptical. In my experience, bakeries make very ehhh desserts. Good Italian bread, ehhh desserts. Diane's is different than most bakeries though. I ordered the lemon bars, brownies, cheesecake brownie, cheesecake bars, apricot pastry, and linzer tarts. The girl behind the counter was superchatty, which was fine, until I got home and there were no brownies to be found in my pastry box (a little less chat and a little more paying attention would have been nice-she also came THISCLOSE to forgetting to give me my separate box of cheesecake bars. For this, I dock you one star!). I was not a happy camper, but the AMAZING DELECTABLE TO DIE FOR OUT OF THIS WORLLLLLLD lemon bars and cheesecake almost made up for her transgression. My dad and aunt, both linzer tart aficionados, proclaimed Diane's linzer tart to be the best they had ever tasted. Everyone over at my house loved everything I brought from Diane's. What an adorable little bakery! Diane's Desserts is a two-floor very homey cozy place with both desserts and meals. It's very picturesque. Makes me feel like I stepped into the country. The salads are amazing, and I love the cappuccino (though I need to put a ton of sugar in it), cheesecake, and tarts. The lemon cake was a bit too rich for me haha.
