La Sevillana - a Columbian bakery
    Tracy K.

La Sevillana is a Columbian bakery, right next door to Los Tacos. Once inside it is bright, cheerful, clean and ready for business. They greet you and patiently tell you what is in the cases, and types of bread etc. On the counter is self serve Columbian coffee - regualr or decaf There are rows of their most popular vanilla base cake most all with white icing with many variations of flavored toppings Strawberry seemed to sell out fastest, which also had milk on the bottom. Interesting! There is a pineapple or cherry topped creamy cheesecake. For birthdays, they have a few colorful icings on their bright cakes. They make a mean blue cake! (?) In a side counter, are a few rows of Columbian hot foods to go.. I asked if one was a Jamaican meat patty.. they corrected me... it was a Columbian meat patty... don't recall the name though. For me, used to German or Italian American bakeries, it is definately an acquired bakery taste. Because it is somewhat mild in it's flavors it takes a bit of getting used to for some. For a traditional Columbian bakery it was certainly busy, clean and interesting!

First time purchasing and the cake wasn't bad. The pink frosting had too much food coloring in it so it tasted like chemicals.

To start, they "brownies" are not actual brownies. They are individual slices of cake. I didn't notice this 2 years ago but having it again last night, the Cadbury brownie tastes like a layered sheet cake made from box mix. The frosting on top wasn't too sweet, but certainly doesn't carry the richness of Cadbury chocolate. In a slice this simple, there's really no place to hide and paying that much for something that taste like it was battered out a box is not worth it in my opinion. The Dubai chocolate slice tasted better, but tbh, the Dubai chocolate cake from Costco not only tastes better but has a better price point! I was really excited to try their ice cream - I loved their flavor choices, but that's where my fondness pretty much stopped. The pints were pricey and taste super home made (not in a good way). The ice cream was hard and while it tasted like sweet cream, it was definitely not churned enough to carry a smooth texture. They pints were Van Leeuwen prices but the taste and texture was far from quality ice cream. In this case, I much rather pick up a pint of Hagen Daz, again much better price point and better quantity. The store is pretty but I won't be returning.

My brother and I were actually buying some Korean dishes at the spot right next to it for our mother's birthday and we also wanted to get a cake. I looked up bakeries in the area and this bakery showed up so we just walked on over to take a look at the selection. The cakes actually looked pretty good with a good variety of flavors but there wasn't much left (looked like a lot was sold). They also have a refrigerated section of Asian drinks and also individual baked goods in addition to the cakes. We ended up getting a Blueberry Fresh cake ($29.99) that had blueberry fresh cream, white sponge and blueberry. It looked very pretty and honestly tasted very good! It wasn't overly sweet and heavy which was what we liked about it. Everything in general was a little pricier than what I'd like but it's definitely more convenient to get a cake in Hicksville than to drive all the way to Queens for something similar. Another plus is the huge parking lot and there are always spots available.

Most recently, I purchased the ube cream donut ($3.95), matcha cream donut ($3.95), brown sugar bubble tea ($6.00), and milk tea bubble tea ($6.00). In the past, I've also purchased milk pan bread ($5.95), sausage roll bread ($4.25), taro milk tea ($6.00). I really enjoy their baked goods and think they are better than their drinks. Their drinks are okay and I more get it for convenience. The prices are reasonable. I am looking forward to trying one of their fresh cream cakes. Staff are always friendly and it doesn't take long to checkout.
