Thank you to the first Yelper to review this greasy spoon because I never would have stopped here otherwise. I was in the area to check out the covered bridge and wanted a good brunch type place at noon on a Sunday. This is primarily a breakfast joint with outstanding omelettes and pancakes but they also have sandwiches and burgers, of course. The coffee is excellent. Portions are generous without being overwhelming (for example, the omelettes can be ordered as one egg or two - not three). This is a very local joint and the locals sure can't be wrong. A few quirks: cash only, so don't try to use a credit card or check (do places anywhere still accept checks?). They also charge for some odd things - I was charged an extra 25 cents so I could have butter on my pancake. But even with those extras, this is a place for good, cheap eats and local character. Don't be fooled by the bizarre, unassuming facade - inside it's warm and welcoming. read more

Can't believe I live 5 miles away and never heard of this place before! Joined friends here for breakfast last Sunday - great food and surprisingly low prices! You can get a multi-ingredient omelet with toast and homefries for only 6.95! I also loved the option of getting a 1 egg omelet. So many places only offer THREE egg omelets, which is way more than I can eat. It's only open for breakfast and lunch. NOT FANCY and the rest room is really showing its age (although clean). But I am giving it 5 stars for the great food at a great price. read more

The breakfast at Diane's is pure comfort food - homemade and delicious. The food comes out fast, it's good, and it's cheap. They have amazing pancake options. My biggest complaint is I can't decide which to choose. Apple brown sugar? Coconut? Oatmeal butterscotch? I've died and gone to pancake heaven! I'm not so much an omelet person as I am a pancake person but I could easily be swayed to try one given the amazing omelet options. The only drawback to Diane's is its size - it's tiny so you need to get there early on weekends otherwise expect to wait. Of course, this is also part of its charm so if you don't like it, go find yourself an IHOP. read more

Delicious! I never knew this place was there (it's on the backside of Germano's Bar) but we stopped last weekend for breakfast and I was very happy. The food was great - big serving sizes. And it had a nice small town feel. read more

Great breakfast spot found on YELP. They have it all, tables turn over quickly dont let a line deter you from eating here. The prices are reasonable under $10 per person and you are full when you leave. The location is a bit awkward; the door is on the Rt16 side of West Chester Plaza. This place is great because they do one thing many restaurants don't...they offer small separate portions of everything (i.e.: one egg, one pancake, one French toast) rather than making you buy a huge combo of too much food. The food is good, the staff is friendly! It's a really small place so expect a wait, but things move quick enough around there! The prices are good, I will say though, cash only places drive me nuts, and this place is cash only. It's just so inconvienent , and they do not have an ATM like many cash only joints do, so be prepared ahead of time for that. My husband gets annoyed because he loves their French bread French toast but depending on the day and what they have I guess it's made with different breads (one day French bread, one day Texas toast, next day sliced white bread). Since we have a young child this place is kinda hard for us to eat at. The tables are very close to one another. I enjoyed my pancakes. The scrambled eggs are average and I could go without. Awful. Overpriced, crowded, etc... they forgot half of my meal, then brought it out to me halfway through my meal, and when they brought it out, it was entirely incorrect. They still charged me full price for it tho, and then when I went to pay the bill, they told me they don't accept cards, and that I needed to walk with my four year old down the strip mall to the grocery store to use their ATM. My question is - why isn't there a sign on the door or somewhere obvious? It was ten degrees outside! When I finally came back to pay, I obviously had my complaints about paying full price for the wrong food, halfway through my meal and the girl wanted to argue with me about it, because altho it was wrong I still ate it... unreal. read more

This family owned restaurant is an absolute gift and treasure to find. Not only is the food delicious, but the portions are large and the price is small. The seemingly endless choices of omelettes and huge flavorful pancakes are the gateway to starting yourself a fantastic day. I highly recommend the addition of perfectly seasoned home fries along with delicious crisp bacon and a delicious cup of fresh brewed coffee, brought to you by the very friendly competent wait staff or one of our gracious hosts. Diane's has been a favorite of my family for many years. Breakfast here is so good that there is normally a line out the door every weekend morning. People happily wait to get in. Thankfully the line moves quickly! Interior is tables and booths plus a small counter setup for individual diners. Yes, it's fine to rearrange the tables for a large group to eat together. The menu is extensive for Breakfast and Lunch. Breakfast is to Die For! Truly Fantastic Eggs Benedict! I love the original Benny but they offer multiple types from a Seafood Benny to an Irish Benny over Hash. All of the Egg and the.. "made your way" Omelette dishes are always done perfectly and never dried out or overdone. Fresh Daily Home Fries come with most breakfasts. Variety of breakfast meats are offered as well as many types of Fresh Baked Muffins. FAVE item of anyone that has had them are ANY of the 20 Different Types of Pan Cakes! Light, Fluffy and Delicious they are hands down the Best Pan Cakes around for miles. I can personally recommend the Eggs Benedict or the Blueberry Banana Pan Cakes. I love their Omelettes too, I have tried just about all the menu. Always Breakfast Specials Offered. Never been disappointed. Staff is always Running to keep everyone happy and they keep your Coffee and Tea Cups Full and we all know how important that is first thing in the morning. (Seriously, I need my Tea folks) Fresh Selections of Juices and Milks including Chocolate Milk for the kids. Hampton CT, Comstock Bridge is over the Salmon River at the Salmon River State Park and this river is not only extremely beautiful it is a great fishing and picnic area. Take a Camera. Great place to take the family with fabulous hiking trails, Eagles and other wildlife seen frequently. The Salmon River State Park is on both sides of the Rt. 16 so if you don't see the Covered Bridge, it's on the opposite side. Definitely try Diane's for Breakfast or Lunch if you are in the area. My family and I went to this place for brunch on a Friday morning. It was pretty busy but table turnover opened seats pretty often. This is a seat yourself joint. First of all, they have have those tacky blinds CLOSED! It was a rainy morning, dark enough as it is but with the blinds closed it was a little creepy. Wait staff knew we were there yet no one greeted us (although we did say hello to the waitress who waited on the table that was seated after us, who will never came to ask us about drinks.) We watched several people come in, seat themselves, and be immediately served! Before leaving, I used the bathroom. Customer must walk through the kitchen to get to the bathroom. We ended up walking out after waiting with no service. Save your time and money. Do not recommend. read more

I travel from pretty far away almost regularly to eat at a couple different breakfast places in the stats, and this is a hidden gem. My kids absolutely love the massive pancake menu, so many types you feel like you're at Cheesecake Factory or something as far as that goes- otherwise, all menu items are solid and the feel of the place is super "homey" and friendly. Literally everyone in there knows each other and I would avoid going between 8-10 daily as it's always super packed at that time. Great place!! read more

The food and service at Diane's Restaurant is excellent. There is a lot of choices. You never have an empty cup of coffee. The waitresses are always refilling your cup. The only withdraw is that it is only a cash business no credit cards. But it's worth it. They have very fresh fruit! My favorite I the variety of omelets they offer. Diane's is a small unassuming restaurant next to Germano's in Colchester. The "Pancakes" sign above the door gives a clue to one of the specialties of the house. Flapjacks indeed, banana, apple, blueberry, pumpkin and many other tantalizing choices. The pancakes are large and just brimming with fruit- DELICIOUS. I also enjoy the french toast with assorted fruit on top (strawberry, watermelon, cantaloupe, blueberry, to name but a few) and although I have never tried one, the omelets look wonderful too. Since the restaurant is open from 6-1 every day, (7-1 on Sunday) there is plenty of time for lunch if you prefer something a bit more substantial. The grilled cheese on rye is unassuming yet tasty, the cheeseburgers simply explode with flavor, and the roast beef sandwich on a hard roll is to die for. Besides the fantastic food and reasonable prices, the staff is superlative. Diane herself is a great cook and a lovely shining sun, Gosia is a waitress of consummate skill and amazing intelligence, and Lisa is a generous soul; with such a beautiful face you feel better just by being in the same room with her. Nick, the owner's son, is an additional bonus on Fridays through Mondays. He is always affable and enthusiastic, incredibly hard working yet never too busy to say "Hi". However, the heart of Diane's Restaurant, and indeed the 8th Wonder of the World, is KIm. No one is nicer, no one can be more compassionate and sweet, and no one makes the world a better place to live for us all as effortlessly as Kim does. Together with her daughter Carli -Anne who also fills in occasionally, a winning team is created that is still another reason to patronize Diane's. I'm gushing since this restaurant is so worth it.
