We ended up with those and a few stickers before ordering a brown sugar cinnamon latte (on recommendation from the barista) and a giant mint chocolate chip cookie. The cookie was really big. A bit on the drier side, but I loved the flavor. Not too sweet, and the mint was just right. The latte was really good. Perfect temperature, and just the right amount of sweetness. After catching up with friends at Martinez Marina, we wanted to get some coffee before going our separate ways. Since we've been boycotting a certain coffee establishment with the mermaid logo, and our once coffee spot that is now owned by a private equity firm, we wanted to go to a locally-owned coffee shop and support them instead. My friend, who also happens to live in Martinez, found this spot on Yelp and we all drove here. We arrived there with a couple of hours to spare before they closed. It's a small, charming and quaint coffee shop with plenty to offer like baked goods and pastries. The young lady working at the counter was friendly, accommodating and provided us with answers to our questions and explained their menu. My Martinez friend mentioned that he wasn't aware this place even existed and that his kids went to school just a couple blocks away. They've been in business for 13 years, and she actually graduated from the same school that his kids went to. I ordered an Iced Pistachio Latte (not too sweet), while my friends ordered a hot drink (regular latte, I believe) and another iced drink. And yes, one can ask to customize the sweetness level to your preference. We also got a slice of Pistachio Nutella Coffee Cake and a Strawberry Coffee Cake. Coffee is good (that's all we can ask for) and she gave us a generous portion of the coffee cake since there was three of us to share the cake with. Woke up wanting to get a good cup of coffee and came across Mountain grounds located off Alhambra st. I ordered a large iced vanilla oat milk latte, John's veggie omelette, blueberry muffin and carrot loaf. Vanilla latte was good could have used a little more vanilla because it tasted more like a regular iced latte but over it was good. John's veggie oatmeal was served in a coffee cup which threw me off but ended up actually really enjoying the practicality of eating out of a cup on the go the omelette it's self was fresh the veggies were perfectly cooked for my taste it could have used a little salt and pepper but I did enjoy it either way. Pastry portions were huge definitely can be shared I really appreciate that they are not overly sweet which in my opinion pairs perfectly with coffee. The two ladies behind the counter were welcoming and friendly they answered my questions regarding the coffee and freshness of pastries. The ambiance was giving small neighborhood coffee shop with local art work which I really liked as I am a huge art junkie. Unfortunately, Mountain Grounds is not great. I had ordered a pickup order of a Frosted mint Mocha and received a hot drink. When I showed the female person at the counter, she said ... that's what was ordered. I said, it was a Frosted drink ... it should be cold, she said no and then I was just so baffled because she was not friendly and did not even acknowledge how crazy that sounded to have a frosted drink be hot ... I showed her a picture of the drink (which had ice cubes floating) and she offered to remake but I was in a rush and just grabbed cups of ice. I also ordered the Avocado Toast and to no surprise at this point, inside the bag was 2 pieces of toasted bread with a mush of avocado inside ... no seasonings or garnishments as described on their menu. The Mountain Panini was sad as well, two slides of toasted bread with 1 slice of cheese and 1 slice of turkey and a strip of bacon. So low class and cheap. Do better. read more

This place is consistently awesome and the staff is really attentive. They are always friendly and seem to know my drink. They make their Bakery goods and it always look enticing. I usually grab a baked good or cookie on the weekend. I love their house made zero sugar hazelnut syrup and they always seem to have seasonal drink specials. They have a drink card stamp reward program which makes it easier to get a free coffee after a certain amount of visits. The aroma of fresh baked goods greets you here. This is a small place with a big, friendly vibe. The barista is welcoming and told me the pastries , cookies and cakes are made by a local baker only for them. I'll be back for them! I'm not sure if I came when it was an off day or what but the latte I got was not up to par for what I'd expect a dirty chai latte to be. Mind you I got the spicy chai latter so maybe it was because of that but it truly didn't taste all that good. It felt like the flavor just wasn't there for me. I also ordered an omelette which was truly only Scrambled eggs with veggies in a paper cup..so that threw me off. The 2 ladies who served me were very friendly and the shop itself is a small hole in the wall. I appreciate the whole aestethetic with coffee bags for decor and trinkets for sale. Overall though the reason I was there, coffee and morning bites were not satisfying at all. No good morning, no how's it going, no welcoming in. Just a blank stare that honestly made my fiancé and I pretty uncomfortable. They had some fun coffee concoctions that I asked about all we got was a "I don't know I don't drink that stuff with an eye roll". I just discovered this coffee shop when searching on yelp for local breakfast spots. I came in and got a strawberry white mocha (seasonal for Valentine's Day) and a blueberry muffin. My drink was so good! Not too sweet, which is not easy to accomplish with white chocolate. My blueberry muffin was MASSIVE. It was probably the size of three muffins and loaded with blueberries. I only ate a portion of it but saving the rest for later. I spent $10 on both items and thought it was well worth the purchase. read more

After reading an abundance of favorable Yelp reviews, I had the opportunity in checking out "Mountain Grounds". Located in the city of Martinez, this small family-owned and operated business has been in operation dating back to 2013. Situated only a 1/2 mile north of Highway 4 (on Alhambra Ave. and J St.), this place offers a nice selection of coffees, teas, Italian sodas, pastries, and even breakfast sandwiches. During my visit which was on Saturday, 4/20/2024, I had the chance of meeting the owner, John who prepared my drink. Keep in mind that this place is tiny with no indoor seating and no restrooms. However, they do have a decent outdoor patio area (weather permitting). Otherwise, the orders are strictly to-go. I will say this and that is they have very respectable business hours. They are opened weekdays from 5:30am-5:00pm and weekends from 6:30am-5:00pm. That really makes it convenient if you're an early bird to get to school, work, etc. Upon my arrival which was around 10:30am, I wanted a light snack and coffee to get me through the morning. I ended up getting a "Raspberry Crumble Tart" to eat. This hit the spot as it was sweet, savory, and absolutely delicious. To drink, I went with an "Iced Brown Sugar Latte". I have to say that this was above average and not too bitter (as I could easily recognize the brown sugar flavor). Total price for both items came out to a very reasonable $8.50 + tax. Even though this place is tiny, they definitely offer a reasonable amount to offer. Since many already know what to expect on the beverage side, I'll go into detail of their signature food items. This includes a breakfast sandwich, keto cup (eggs, cheese, sausage, bacon), omelets, panini, and a grilled cheese sandwich. And of course your muffins, bagels, Danishes, and bananas. When you factor in the above average service, reasonable prices, and tasty food & drinks, I am giving "Mountain Grounds" an above average four star rating. read more

At least there are other places to go like Dutch bros or Starbucks or another local Martinez coffee shop downtown like states or barrelista. read more

Karen and Nicole are frequently working when i visit, and they're great. the shop is so cozy and has cute decorations, plus local artist wares available for purchase. the seasonal drink offerings rotate frequently, and their quality is consistently excellent. hot food comes out fast. their baked goods are catered by a local cottage bakery, rather than from a big generic company (which is what most coffee shops around the area do!). i can't speak highly enough about the delicious baked goods... they have tons of options every time i visit & always something new and exciting to select from. parking can be tricky on weekends, but it's easy enough to find street parking in the neighborhood. go here! you won't be disappointed. read more

This place was a pleasant surprise! We wanted to try a new cafe spot and this place is now a new favorite! I got the iced mocha which was just the right amount of sweetness and coffee kick for me. My boyfriend got the raspberry pistachio latte, he said it was good, but I am not a fan of fruity flavors mixed with coffee. The breakfast sandwich was DELICIOUS! I'm so used to McDonald's breakfast sandwiches that it didn't cross my mind to do a scrambled egg and it honestly changed my whole view of a sausage egg English muffin sandwich. When we went there were 2 tables out front and you order from the entrance door, you don't go inside. The parking lot is small, but there is some street parking on the side or another lot across from it. On the exterior, there is a phone number saying you can text in your order, I haven't tried that yet, but there is a parking spot in the front for these curbside pick up orders. Used to be one of the best secret spots to get a really amazing cup of coffee. They were so knowledgeable about the coffee and brought in all kinds of different beans. It was always consistent in the past, then again this was a while back. Not sure what happened.
