We've always been a fan of DiBellas. Subs are always good and fresh. However, tonight I ordered a tuna salad. I ordered online and picked up my order. Before leaving I checked my bag. Good thing I did, because they forgot a cookie. No big deal, it happens. But then, I get home. I open my tuna salad-with NO tuna. We live 20 minutes away so I wasn't going to drive all the way back for the tuna. Come on guys, this is unacceptable!! My receipt clearly stated it was a tuna salad. So I enjoy the food here and the experience is usually pleasant. But, it has been very rare that I have gotten a correct order. The last few times I ordered there was missing soda, missing sides etc. this last time we ordered (and paid for) 2 cookies and there were none. Pretty solid option if you're in the mood for a hearty and filling lunch. My rating is based on the fact that I only ever get chicken subs there (buffalo chicken usually), and they are very good. I prefer to get cold cuts from an Italian deli where the meat is cut to order and more fresh. Although I usually get the same thing, I appreciate the many options they have to choose from, and I love everything bagels, so their everything bread is something I enjoy. The toppings are always plentiful, and the location is convenient for me...I work within walking distance so I'm able to make it a quick outing. What I enjoy most are their chocolate chip cookies...a guilty pleasure for sure. Their subs are on the pricey side...for a large chicken you're paying over $11, however the subs are huge so you can easily get two lunches out of one. read more

I come to this place often. But recently I found out that some of the female sandwich makers have really long finger nails. Their finger nails poke through the gloves, which is @@@@DIRTY@@@@@@@ because they grab food with hands. I hope this can be solved so I can still enjoy this restaurant. The reason why this is a 2 star because of how the manager took care of the situation--- other wise I wish I could give zero stars for my visit. THIS IS THE WORST EXPERINCE I EVER HAD IN MY ENTIRE LIFE!! I visited the store on 5/13/2019. I placed my order on Grubhub about 20 mins before I walked in, when I arrived, the cashier said it was being made and there were a lot of orders, which I understand and waited. During my wait, the cashier kept checking on the empty bag to make sure my name and order, but that is all she did for the next 20 mins. By then I already placed the order for about 40 minutes. The person by the grill (One with yellow hair) kept saying to the cashier "I do not have the order" "I don't know who took the order" instead of starting to make my order. Meanwhile they never came to me letting me know they actually didn't make it at all, I only know this because I overheard them taking in front of me. So I then asked the cashier "Is anyone going to start making it or should I keep waiting?" because all they been doing is pushing responsibilities around. I DO NOT CARE WHO TOOK THE ORDER, I AM NOT SUPPOSE TO WAIT 40 MINS FOR SOMETHING I ORDERED IN ADVANCE, WHEN EVERYONE ORDERED AFTER ME ALREADY LEFT!! When I said that, the cashier said " I AM SORRY BUT I ONLY HAVE ONE PERSON COOKING" and kept repeating it no matter what I said. The problem is I've been waiting for so long and it does not matter how many cooks you have, it should be done by now. And even when she was arguing with me about how "busy" they were, my order is still not being made, and the girl by the grill was so annoyed by how I asked? Well, should I just keep waiting until whenever there is no costumers so you can start working on it? Anyway, the manager asked to refund me, I said it is not about the money, it is how the service was so TERRIBLE and even when it is their fault that they did not make it and lied saying it was being made, they still try to tell me they are busy, only have one cook and it is not their fault and I should just keep waiting and I should not be asking them where is my order. When I was about the leave after the manager made my order, the cashier lady sarcastically said :HAVE A GOOD DAY! Which just worsen my experience at this location even more. I will be reaching out to the corporate office regarding this visit and the employees involved because it is just absolutely terrible and I am pretty sure no other costumers will want this to happen to them. For a company event I reached out to DiBella's for pricing to cater our lunch. Stacy Coates was the person that I spoke to. She was amazing. She listened to my needs, gave me several choices and helped us pick our exactly what we needed for our luncheon. Stacy's follow thru was exceptional. Even after our event she still called to make sure we received a great experience. And the food was perfection. The bread was made that day. Everyone loved how the individaul subs were wrapped. This was my second time at Dibella's. The first time was excellent with great food and service. This last time was as opposite as possible. I ordered the same two subs paid for them and got home to eat them and there was only 1 sub. I called right away even though it was closing time and someone picked up and put the phone down. All I heard was background noise with things like don't forget the out the garbage and mopping noise. the next day I called and talked to the manager and she said oh your the one that left the sub. I said no the associate only gave me 1 sub and no one tried to stop me saying you have another sub. I'll make this much shorter. I told the manager I just wanted my credit card credited for the missing sub. The manager said they couldn't do it over the phone and I would have to come in. I said that it wasn't close to me and everyone can do that these days. This went on for a while until she said I'll get the other manager. The other manager was basically the same basically saying it was my fault. After a 45 minute conversation he said he would make an exception and credit my card but it would take a few days. I finally saw my just under $10 credit after being treated terribly. In short if you want to pay for two subs only to get one and get treated miserably when you try to get it corrected, then this is the place to go. read more

We stopped in the other night for a quick bite to eat. My wife asked if I wanted to just grab a quick sub instead of waiting for her to cook, and I didn't mind. She asked if we could go to DiBella's. Until that point the only mention of the place I had heard was Danika's review a few days earlier. Stepping inside is pretty shocking. The place is huge for a sandwich shop. It doesn't look like it could possibly be as big from the outside. The whole place has a pre-60's vibe that is very inviting. I would almost call the interior beautiful. Fitting the vibe is some big-band pre-rock and roll age music. It is not something I listen to every day, but it fits the look and feel so very well that it has to be mentioned. But, this is not an art gallery, it's a sandwich shop. Thankfully, this is something they do very well. The meats are top notch and it is very apparent that they slice their own. It is also weighed before being placed on a sandwich, no change you'll be short changed here. I had the Godfather with all the trimmings you'd expect on an Italian mix. The Godfather adds Spiced Ham to the Genoa salami and Capicola. Again the quality of the meat is unquestionable and you get a very good portion of everything for your sandwich. There's lots of different types of bread to chose, and I ended up going with the Everything bread. All of the toppings from an Everything bagel, but on a loaf of bread. The bread was great, but not something I will necessarily pair with this sandwich again. I ordered the largest sub, the 14", since I can generally finish a footlong at Subway without even thinking about it. I did not get close to finishing this sub; ended up taking half of it home and saving for lunch the next day. Now, I was a bit worried about what my wife was going to eat. There's really very few options outside of sandwiches here. However, they do have salads. The salads were pre-made and kept in small containers. They appear smaller than a salad you'd get at Subway so my wife picked up two. However, she ended up bring one home and having it the next day. The volume of stuff inside that salad was far superior than anything she'd have had at Subway. Oh, and the salad has things cut up like it was going into a salad and not leftovers for the next sub. My only complaint, the place really needs a soft ice cream bar. It really just screams like something to finish off the experience. My wife says I was just in the mood for soft ice cream and you should not pay any attention to me. But there is a very definite focus on sandwiches so you cannot expect much else in the way of offerings. Not even a soup to go with a sandwich on a cold day. On the one hand, this is great if you want them to focus on what they do well. But on the other, it might be easier to get this place onto my go-to-list if there were something extra I could look forward to having with the next visit. read more

This is the best of the chain style sandwich shops. It is indeed better than Subway or Mr.Subb but that's not saying much as those options are basically dog or cat poop. Service: About 35 inept children work the counter at any given time and it takes roughly 8 years to get a cold sub. If you order a hot sub bring your travel pillow and just power nap in one of the booths. Atmosphere: Probably the best thing about DiBella's is the large dimly light room with comfortable booths to sit in while you shovel down the human arm sized roll that is their large sandwich. Bottom Line: Great booths for sitting, OK subs for eating. Good for a chain but almost any real deli would be a better choice. Good alternatives would be Via Fresca, Roma Foods, Cardona's Market, or Luigi's Deli across the street. However none of those places have the sweet booths so you're on your own on this one. read more

I'm sorry, but I just don't see what the hype is. I went into DiBella's excited, hoping that it lived up to what I've heard about it, but I have to say it didn't. It's located in a plaza on Western Ave which can be packed at certain times of the day. The inside is just kind of blah, I really don't like the decor. You go up to a counter and order. There are many different options and many different breads which they make daily. For me this was only slightly better than Subway. I chalked it up to them having a bad day, so I went back, and again I felt the same way. I don't understand why anyone would go here when there are Italian delis in the area that carry way better meat (Boarshead). I found the meats here to be subpar and not very good. Head across the street to the importing co or to Ragonese or Cardonas or Andys...anywhere is better than this! The feeling was just so corporate. This place is a Rochester favorite as a sub place. Considering a garbage plate is a delicacy there, it may not say much. But then again, Wegmans is also home to the windy city so I'm gonna go with that. I feel like DiBella's deserves more credit than it's getting on Yelp. Why would you ever want to go to Subway or Quizno's if there's DiBella's? So it doesn't have a fancy (or really annoying) jingle to tell you the price, but DiBella's sub is so much better! So the difference isn't like having a steak over a salad, but there's that subtle taste of, oh yah, this place cares about good food. There's none of that regret afterwords thinking you just ate a microwaved sandwich. I'm even going as far to say that DiBella's is the reason the subs at Cardona's has been a disappointment. I know, blasphemy. But I didn't realize it when I had it then, but I was thinking Cardona's sub could be better. Now I realize that DiBella's is that sub. I completely understand people supporting for small businesses, but I think there's slightly higher expectations for a place like DiBella's because it looks like a chain. DiBella's is a small family owned business that once had its humble beginnings in Rochester. I will continue to support and recommend this place as long as it doesn't cut corners in their success in great subs! The place is huge and and has the 1940's character, but something isn't all that great eating there. But I've decided in this case, I'm not going to be an interior design critic. From the moment I stepped into DiBella's I wasn't sure exactly what I'd gotten myself into. Their setup reminds me of the DMV. Line up...sort of...to the left when you come in along this very long, very crowded counter, and wait for somebody to call you over to take your order. You should already know when you step up exactly what you want and how you want it, and any uncertainty will not be tolerated. If you want something that doesn't usually come on one of their signature sandwiches, know that you are tampering with something sacred and they will let you know about that, too. Done floundering with your words? Good. Pay and leave, or take a number and sit down, shut it, and wait to be served. It's not really that harsh, honestly, but in a world full of take-out joints and sit-down restaurants, DiBella's falls right in the middle. They aren't friendly enough to really personalize your experience, they aren't cheap enough to count as fast food, their restaurant isn't ugly enough to be a Subway's knock-off, and they don't clean it enough to be upscale. All that aside, they make really good sandwiches, and HUGE ones at that. I got a large chicken phillie on an everything roll, and what I received far outweighed my expectation. Literally. It had to be a solid pound-and-a-half of bread, meat, and roasted vegetables. DELICIOUS ones at that,all of them. The chicken was moist but didn't ruin the roll, which did its part in staying resiliant in the face of all that yummy juice. It does take some waiting to get them, however. Especially if you decide to eat-in. Those numbers they give you? That's so an employee can walk your sandwich out to you later, but regardless of the fact you've ordered it to eat-in, it will be wrapped to go. Not very subtle, DiBella's. Oh, and once you've established a clean table (they don't get much time to wipe down during rush hours), be sure to guard it with your LIFE, or at least the lives of your dining companions. You can't help but notice the huge sign driving down Western Ave. in this strip mall. Is it all show with an Italian name? I wanted something for the train that was uniquely East coast. I got an Italian Mix, no tomatoes extra oil. Lets say a medium gave me dinner and breakfast. Never didn't have a bite of meat up to the last. I'm with Lai-Yee on the bread. I like the old fashioned thinner, flatter bread, but at least it wasn't tough. I got the side of generic mac salad that I love. Maybe it's a good thing that it hasn't hit the mid-west yet. It doesn't coincide with a low carb diet and who needs the temptation. But I would sure welcome it next year at this time or just take another trip. But if DiBella's does become a national chain, don't sellout like Subway and serve miniscule portions once your public make you billionaires. read more

This is the best place to get subs hands down. The bread is always fresh and the meat is delicious (unlike that processed meat at subway, yuck!!). The food is the best feature of the restaurant. The everything sub roll is sooooo tasty!!! Sadly, the service and hospitality of the staff behind the counter is not so great. Last time we went it was close to closing, but we still had a solid 30 mins before the time specified on the door. The workers rolled their eyes as we walked in and gave us dirty looks. As we ordered, they continued their attitudes right up until we paid for our food. The worst part was, people coming in behind us were greeted the same way, and one employee even shouted out " CAN SOMEONE LOCK THE DOOR ALREADY???!!!" The unfortunate thing is the food taste great but they always forget bacon... then when you call them all they say is they tell you they will send you coupons but they never do. Summary- a damn good sub with lots of great options for toppings and some cool bread choices. Food- 4 Stars The Dagwood was better than the cheesesteak I had last time. Their Cheesesteaks are simply under seasoned in my opinion. I would stick their cold stuff. I like it that they offer some good and interesting bread choices and three different "hot" peppers as well. The everything has kind of a hard crust, almost stale. I am not sure if that's because it's everything or if I am the only one who ever orders it. Atmosphere- 4 Stars Feels like sub shop to me. Clean too. This location seems to always have customers present and I can only assume it is because of the location right near SUNY Albany. This shop mirrors that of the one in Latham. Fresh bread, great fixings and just an honest to goodness really good sub. The one thing that didn't give it a 5 star rating are the employees. I've never had an issue with the sub makers, they get it right all of the time. The employees cashing out on the other hand I've had issues with, especially tonight. Not being able to get the club card right, not being able to make change correctly and/or just not too friendly is what I've encountered at this location.That alone however won't make me rate this DiBella's low. I am pretty happy with this sub shop though I did wish they changed a few things about their business operations. For one I felt really confused when walking in and trying to place an order. For a new customer you have no Idea what to do. There is just a straight table leading all the way down to the register with no indication of where you should stand to place your order or who you should interact with. Once you are finally met with the "I can help you down here" you make your way down and place your order only to find out they don't toast your sandwich. Alright that's forgivable... old fashioned... got it... The real oddball thing is that the best way to save money and order food is to go with someone, agree on a sandwich you both like, order the largest one and split it. The portions are so big that you will both be easily full after enjoying your lunch. So far I have tried several of the combinations and have nothing to complain about. Some of the chicken and steak based sandwiches are a little greasy but unless your a big health food nut, this shouldn't take away from the overall enjoyment of the food. DiBella's subs are phenomenal. What separates a DiBella's sub versus a Subway or Quiznos sub? The bread! They have a unique everything bread which has poppy seed, onion, garlic and sesame seeds and goes well with all sandwiches, especially the Roast Beef. The service is fine and the restaurant is pretty clean. The prices are slightly higher but there is no question that you get what you pay for. Overall, a quality experience and I will be back. (Side Note: The location of this restaurant is strange because there are now four sub places with in a .25 mile radius. A lot of people enjoy Fiorellos Imports but I have not tried it yet) read more

A couple months ago I placed an order for delivery through grubhub because I was too sick to go get it. Once it arrived and I opened the first one, it was completely wrong, checked the second one, also completely wrong. Called the store to see if they would correct it or at least give me a discount as they messed it up. They pretty much told me to go f myself and that they sent out everything correctly. Thankfully grubhub was nice enough to send me a discount coupon for my next order because of them. I also reached out to their customer service department because of how terribly they handled the situation, they never responded. Well I made the mistake of trying them again after working a 10 hour day with no break. I just wanted a sandwich and to go to bed. Went in and ordered a ham, Turkey and bacon(they have an upcharge for bacon). I couldn't see the guy making it unfortunately. After he made it he handed it to me to take to the checkout, instead of giving it to the cashier and telling him what was on it. So I tell the cashier what I ordered, he rings it out with the 2$ upcharge for the bacon. I get home and of course no bacon. So yet again this place has screwed up my order and charged me extra money for nothing. So I'd say avoid this place at all costs as everytime I've gone here they've messed up my order and given terrible customer service. You're better off going across the street to the locally owned shop there. read more

I am comparing this sub to the ultimate sub making geniuses at Wegmans. Wegmans is by far the best subs EVER and I often don't try places because I hate the let down of a bad sandwich. To my surprise, DeBellas was pretty darn good. Their multi-grain bread actually tasted like multi-grain bread and they did not skimp on the meat. If you're looking for a good sub, I would definitely recommend coming here. I am not sure about their hot subs but the cold cuts were good! Give it a try! read more

She had The Cowboy and I had The Grandfather. Both were terrific. Ended up switching halfway thru because they were so great. Only complaint was that the pasta salad was pretty skimpy size-wise.
